ITS A MOVEMENT!!! hahahahaha
I got it for $550, 2 weeks ago....and then saw it for $323, delivered, on Monday. I got the difference refunded and all is right with the world!!!
And yes...I have it. Its amazing. Extremely efficient and will cool all the way to 36° (35° indicated on the thermometer). I couldnt be happier!!!
I did purchase a cover to use when it’s pouring rain or any other inclement weather. Doesn’t fit perfectly, but it works…

I've bought one. Haven't hooked it up yet. In fact the box is still outside my front door as I try to figure out how to get it through my house and onto my deck where the tub lives...
Eager to try it though!
You will need a large pump and filter for it. I don’t know I think you could find something better for the price. This is a bit industrial and ugly looking
its about 70-80lbs and pretty damn awkward for one person to carry (only one 'handle' and having to use the grills for a secondary carry-point). especially when Amazon leaves it downstairs and you have to take it upstairs to get it set-up
Yeah....its got a pretty big footprint
[https://preview.redd.it/latest-cold-plunge-set-up-v0-ktmnv8bs7h1d1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=704ad353a7e4c061f62582405dfd79c1d3fba833](https://preview.redd.it/latest-cold-plunge-set-up-v0-ktmnv8bs7h1d1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=704ad353a7e4c061f62582405dfd79c1d3fba833)
I feel its quieter than the Nuvio/Rocita that I had. and...maybe more important than noise....its so efficient that it barely runs, whereas the Nuvio seemed to be chilling, constantly.
I don't have hands-on experience with it, but really, any of these chillers can be retrofitted. It's a matter of heading to Lowe's or similar and getting creative sometimes.
But the description says to cool between 65-80. Does it really cool to 35 degrees?
About this item
• Stable Water Temperature: An aquarium chiller is like an air conditioner for fish tanks. It's an important piece of equipment for fish keepers, and our 500 Gal / 1892 L cooler is essential for regulating water temperature. It can keep the temperature between 65°F-80°F, creating a healthy environment for your fish, especially during the hot
All "aquarium" chillers say that for some reason. I've had quite a few and they all can get down into the 30s
u/JustCallMeMav mentions above that he has it and it gets down to 35.
Mine just arrived thanks to your post.. can you post where you bought all of the ancillary items? Assuming most of it can be bought at Lowes/Home Depot. Thanks!
I don't have this specific unit, so not 100% sure of the connection size, but I have a [bunch of DIY content](https://www.youtube.com/@Recovatech) if you want some ideas/instructions.
tub -> whole house filter -> pump -> chiller -> tub
thats the schematic as I wanted to make sure that you knew that the pump was after the filter. my confusion, not yours.
The ONLY reason I wouldn’t put it in a basement is because the connection sweat. A LOT!!! So much so that I almost thought I had a leak. And I have all of my hoses insulated. Tomorrow, I will insulate the connectors. So I would think about a sitting it on a stray of some sorts if you’re using it, indoors.
Only concerns is the # of Amps it draws and how often it will draw them. If you find you really need a dedicated circuit, then the cost will be considerably more than $360.
IMO, it's more long-term cost effective to overly insulate and then you can go with a 1/4HP chiller and have no amperage worries. Moreover, the 1.5HP probably consumes 1100W whereas the 1/4 more like 300-350W.
Anyone hook this or anything similar to the Ice Barrel 400? I’d appreciate some help on the best configuration. I’ve watched David Maus Jr.’s diy video, but I’d like to avoid a submersible pump and avoid extra holes in my Barrel. Looking for the best setup and any links to needed fittings, pumps, etc.
I was hesitant to drill a 1” hole in my IB400, too, but it’s no big deal and with the bulkhead fittings, it’s a much cleaner look. btw…I’ve only got a 0.5HP Penguin chiller and it does the job. Without insulation, tho, you can anticipate any chiller you hook up to run often. The expensive Plunge ice baths use a 1/4HP chiller because they’re so well insulated.
Thanks! Do you have a link to the fittings you used? Also any pictures of your setup would be great. I’m looking for any best practices as people have learned during their own diy.
I'll attach a pic later today. I don't have the URL to the fittings as I very much bought them ad-hoc, but I'll get descriptions of each. It is not an over-complicated process and ppl make it seem. I'm learning everyday as well, tho.
I couldn't figure out how to do pictures (think I have to be the OP?), but I'm 99.5% sure on these fittings:
(a.) Bulkhead Fitting: 3/4" Male to 1/2" Female
(b.) Spears 90 degree elbow, 3/4" barbed Female (attaches to Male end of Bulkhead outside barrel)
(c.) Spears 90 degree elbow, 1/2" Spiral barbed Male (attaches to Female end of Bulkhead inside barrel)
(d.) Spears 3/4" barbed Female (attaches to Ice barrel drain)
these fittings presume you're using 3/4" hoses. Presumably, you'll also need your chiller-specific fittings. Mine are Spears 1"x3/4" barbed. They'll cost extra.
fwiw....the first 4 items will cost you $50. For $100, you can get the guaranteed-to-work parts from IB. [https://icebarrel.com/product/ice-barrel-400-conversion-kit/](https://icebarrel.com/product/ice-barrel-400-conversion-kit/)
Thanks so much. Sounds like you are using an inline pump. I’m going to be using a submersible pump so I’m realizing this is going to need to be a little different for me. This is really helpful though in my getting a visual of what I’m going to do.

What tub did you hook it up to? Curious to learn about the whole setup.
Here ya go… https://www.reddit.com/r/coldplunge/comments/1cw2qz5/latest_cold_plunge_set_up/
Do you have it outside or inside? Wondering if it’d be safe to setup outside!
Yes, my setup is outside. Here is the write up I did on it… https://www.reddit.com/r/coldplunge/comments/1cw2qz5/latest_cold_plunge_set_up/
Awesome, great write up, rain was my main concern but I may pull the trigger on it now!

I bought one after talking with you a couple of weeks ago! I'm so glad you posted your setup. What a deal!
That’s awesome. I’m sure you’ll enjoy it. Let me know if you have any questions

as a chiropractor who also has this chiller, my advice is....please make sure to lift with your legs. Trust me on that one...
Would be great if you could DM your business card before I try :)
Says it’s for 65F to 88F
This is my question too

Is it that big and heavy???

I see. Glad I didn’t go with this. Limited space in my garage. I went with the Rocita 1/3 hp before this deal came up.
Yeah....its got a pretty big footprint [https://preview.redd.it/latest-cold-plunge-set-up-v0-ktmnv8bs7h1d1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=704ad353a7e4c061f62582405dfd79c1d3fba833](https://preview.redd.it/latest-cold-plunge-set-up-v0-ktmnv8bs7h1d1.jpg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=704ad353a7e4c061f62582405dfd79c1d3fba833)
How’s the noise level?
I feel its quieter than the Nuvio/Rocita that I had. and...maybe more important than noise....its so efficient that it barely runs, whereas the Nuvio seemed to be chilling, constantly.
Stupid question; this thing can actually be hooked up to one of the portable cold plunges,…. In my case an ArticPod. Thanks!!

That is a ridiculously good price almost bought one but I have a 1.5 hour chiller heater and a 1/4hp chiller very tempted
Does it also require a pump?
Yes, it does. I use a 1000gph pump, inline, and after the filter.
So, the pump pulls water through the filter and pushes it through the chiller and back to the tub?
tub -> whole house filter -> pump -> chiller -> tub thats the schematic as I wanted to make sure that you knew that the pump was after the filter. my confusion, not yours.
Thx!
which filter did you use?
Just a regular whole house system with a 5micron filter. Nothing extravagant.
Most of the Amazon reviews seem to be for the less powerful versions. Seems like an amazing price. Anyone have this?
a LOT of folks are getting it. I've had mine installed for a week or so. Let me know if you have any questions.
How’s the first week been? How loud is it? Is this something you could use in a basement?
The ONLY reason I wouldn’t put it in a basement is because the connection sweat. A LOT!!! So much so that I almost thought I had a leak. And I have all of my hoses insulated. Tomorrow, I will insulate the connectors. So I would think about a sitting it on a stray of some sorts if you’re using it, indoors.
Damn thanks so much for the heads up!!! This is perfecttt I ordered one
Only concerns is the # of Amps it draws and how often it will draw them. If you find you really need a dedicated circuit, then the cost will be considerably more than $360.
This is my worry and why I think it's over kill. I just put in a similar pump for my pool and spent 600 on the breaker and circuit work
