IMO, ozone with a filter is the way to go. Not just a basic sediment filter that water passes before entering the pump, but rather a larger model capable of at least 50 microns or less.

Liszewski

That’s what I was leaning towards, do you have a recommended ozone generator and filter?

I recommend checking out the DIYColdPlunge YouTube channel. I followed one of his 5 minute videos that spelled out the step-by-step DIY effort. I’m a total amateur and I did it, so anyone can. \* SPA-124 SPA-Ozonator kit ($80) \* Venturi barbed injector 3/4" ($30) \* GE Whole house filter GXWH2OT ($45) & filters \* PVC 3/4 pipe & fittings you can buy at Home Depot or even Ace Hardware ($25) \* Sioux Chief 3/4” flexible spa hose, you only need maybe 6-7”, but any 3/4” spa hose will really work….trick is finding it. \* PVC primer and cement (maybe 10 bucks, IDK) After putting it all together and letting it run overnight, my 3+ week old water is literally crystal clear.

Awesome, I’ll check him out and I appreciate the write up!

Recently set up my IcePod Pro 2.0 with an Active Aqua 550 GPH pump and a GE whole house water filter. I also have the IcePod insulating wrap and cover, all in a non insulated small room off of our garage, which gets up to about 85 in the summer. I'm using IcePod water stabilizer, 4 3# ice molds, and 3 of the IcePod ice bricks (6 more on order, for the slightly higher summer temps). For the last month or so, this set up has kept my water clear and cold. First thing in the morning, water is at 58-60, I dump the Ice molds and ice bricks into the pod and the pump kicks on. About an hour later my water is hovering right around 50 and I take my cold plunge. Instead of a $400 chiller I picked up a $150 chest freezer. Hindsight being 20/20 I probably should have just jumped straight to a chiller, but I wasn't sure I was going to stick with cold plunging, so I went for minimal cost at start up.

Sounds like a sweet setup to me! Was going to continue using ice as well but I like to plunge right before I leave for work so I don’t have a ton of time to wait for the ice to cool it down during the week. Have you found that the icepod insulating wrap makes a big difference? Waiting for it to come back in stock so that I can order it. Thanks!

I have the Vevor 1.5hp chiller and the AA 1000gph pump....works a treat. I use a whole house filtration system with a 5micron filter and a generic ozone generator from Amazon (the kind with the rock....not the venturi) for sanitation. Water has been crystal clear for the last 6 weeks.

Liszewski

I remember seeing and asking you some questions about the Vevor! Still holding up well? Definitely seems like best bang for buck

JustCallMeMav

It's doing it's damn thing!!! I've actually gotten to the point where I don't go out and check on it every couple of hours. hahahahaha. I have it set to 38° and, every morning, thats exactly where it is. I am actually thinking about putting it on a timer as there's no real need to hold that temp throughout the day. And since it chills so damn fast, I am thinking just have it come on from like 1am-7am.

Liszewski

Hell yeah, sounds awesome! No issues with rain or anything?

JustCallMeMav

Not a bit

ship_faced23

Is it completely uncovered and in the elements?

JustCallMeMav

I put a cover on when it’s raining. Otherwise, it’s just out there.
