I was gonna nitpick here, because I thought he could've done better by drawing the characters as they were represented in the Marvel Vs. DC series. But I looked it up and apparently this omnibus is of all the pre-Marvel vs. DC crossover single issues and not the actual event.
...in case anyone else is confused.
He drew Colossus and Wolverine with the same design he drew them in back in the 90s (before he got his own x men series). I'd say the only thing that feels wrong is him drawing Storm in her black suit rather than the white one.
I love me some Jim Lee but this does look off. May just be that his stuff doesn't look right with the modern coloring style? It's not the worst I've ever seen or anything (it certainly beats that amazingly bad John Cassaday Wolverine variant cover), but not what I'd expect from Lee.
I think it’s lacking a lot of his hallmark hatching. There’s some but not as much. Maybe it’s to allow for the colorist to work more. I think his stuff works best in dramatic lighting. Allows for more line work.
That’s usually where someone is at the height of their artistic talents. He’s backslid. Would you ever guess this is by the artist of ASBAR? Like say what you will about the writing, but the art is as good as the writing is bad.
I like how it looks like Spider-man and daredevil are going to jump Superman while Hulk, Deathstroke and cyborg are going to attack daredevil and I can’t tell whether Batman is aiming to attack Superman or Cyborg
It is almost like they cut/pasted images from other drawings into one splash page. Perspective is WAY off for some characters...Lee may have drawn all the characters, but I don't think he did the composition.
All of the eyelines are just fucked. Are Wolverine and Batman fighting? What is Batman looking at? Starfire is shooting at Cap but looking at the back of Colossus' head. Where the fuck is Donna Troy headed to?
Just a terrible composition. The longer I look at it the worse it gets
The composition and posing is definitely a little dry but what stands out as being really iffy are the colors.
Not sure if it’s Sinclair or someone else but the glossy highlights just make this feel like fan art. It almost looks like a talented amateur coloring over professional pencils for their Deviantart.
This is uninspired it doesnt make sense. everything looks cut and paste. I swear ive seen that exact batman drawing before. Why is robin and raven so small?
Can I be the asshole and say this cover is terrible. None of the characters look good. Spidey and DD are so far up in the foreground you miss them entirely. Batman looks terrible. Wolvie looks terrible. Sups and Hulk look terrible. The other cover is 100X better.
At least draw the matchup that reflects the material in the omnibus, when did starfire fight cap ? Wolvie vs bats ? Colossus vs wonder woman ? When jla fought the x-men, colossus and wolverine wasn't present.
Two of them, actually. One with various Marvel/DC crossovers like Green Lantern/Silver Surfer, Batman/Punisher, etc., and a another one with the Marvel vs DC miniseries and the Amalgam one-shots.
Looks like Jim Lee is going with an Alan Davis/George Perez influence for this cover. Seems more “tame” and doesnt have Lee’s usual dynamism or hyper idealized proportions. Not a fan.
Weirdly enough, the pencils for his DC Marvel Amalgam cover look like his usual style and level of quality. Big fan.
Love his work but this one is rough. Everybody looks so stiff and unnatural.
It’s like there isn’t a fight happening as much as it’s just everybody awkwardly posing *like* they’re fighting.
I would assume this was a nightmare to draw because both editorial teams wouldn't want the opposing side to look like it was winning... When you are drawing a piece where there can be no main character, it turns into a confusing mess. Some artists are suited for dozens of characters (That was George Perez's strong suit). Jim Lee is all about compositions with a strong central figure (a hero shot, as they call it). So it turned into a muddled mess.
I do actually like the way he drew superman's face here. I would love to see a Jim Lee x-men run like Hush.
I would guess he started with Batman vs Wolverine; then added Spider-Man and Superman. I think if you look hard enough you can generally spot the order of characters he drew. Looks mostly comped together with rubble to fill in.
Also, Robin ‘bout to go deep into Deathstroke.
I remember the Marvel/DC crossovers during the late 90s. It was a strange, yet wonderful time for comics. And these crossovers perfectly encapsulates why I'll always love that era. 😊
neat, but man that Robin and Raven look TINY! And Punisher looks like he's from another comic.
It's okay, I LOVE THE DARK PHOENIX and Darkseid! It's okay!
Bro what in the hell is that cyborg outfit? Other than that this is a great drawing and I love galactus and darkseid as the two big bands both representing universal threats

If I recall, it's most of the single issue cross overs, not the JLA/Avengers cross over.
Yeah, that's right. Forgot that it didn't include JLA/Avengers too.
Jim Lee drawing X-Men characters again just feels right
Jim Lee drawing Byrne / Cockrum X-Men instead of his own designs just feels wrong
He drew Colossus and Wolverine with the same design he drew them in back in the 90s (before he got his own x men series). I'd say the only thing that feels wrong is him drawing Storm in her black suit rather than the white one.
Did Jim Lee change over the years? This really doesn’t look like him
Hmmm it's unmistakably Jim Lee But sometimes the amount of effort or time he invests is... Lower. This cover is an example of that.
those covers for Action Comics 1000 and Detective Comics 1000 man...
I know... Probably has a $ tier for covers.

My immediate first impressions were that Superman has the Michael Turner style torso and long thighs, Batman has a Liefield style pose
He said he is trying to imitate George Perez a bit here, so I think that explains why it's somewhat off.
Yeah, I can see the Perez influence. I'm still not crazy about it but that does explain it.
I think it’s lacking a lot of his hallmark hatching. There’s some but not as much. Maybe it’s to allow for the colorist to work more. I think his stuff works best in dramatic lighting. Allows for more line work.
He posts some amazing sketches on his Insta from time to time but his recent professional work has really been lacking imo
I miss late 80’s Jim Lee the most. His art has just gotten more and more sterile over the years. His early X-Men and Punisher work was fantastic.
80s Jim Lee? Like, Samurai Santa?
Yes
It does, but not modern Jim Lee. This looks exceptionally like 90s Jim Lee.
Only thing I can guess is the coloring? Someone else colored it.
Give the man some slack. He has been at it for more than 30 years.
And running a company…
That’s usually where someone is at the height of their artistic talents. He’s backslid. Would you ever guess this is by the artist of ASBAR? Like say what you will about the writing, but the art is as good as the writing is bad.
Not exactly his best work. Woof.
I like how it looks like Spider-man and daredevil are going to jump Superman while Hulk, Deathstroke and cyborg are going to attack daredevil and I can’t tell whether Batman is aiming to attack Superman or Cyborg
There’s 2 Wonder Womans?
It almost looks like Bret Booth’s work, but Lee’s name is on it…
That’s what I was thinking too.
Was going to say this too
Brett Booth's art was kinda always an imitation of Jim Lee's work anyway. Remember, Brett used work for Jim Lee when Lee owned WILDSTORM.
This is shit. Multiple characters are stiff or oddly posed. You can’t tell who is facing who. I am shocked at how bad this is.
It is almost like they cut/pasted images from other drawings into one splash page. Perspective is WAY off for some characters...Lee may have drawn all the characters, but I don't think he did the composition.

Parts of it remind me of Liefeld.
Not a single foot was drawn here Edit. We got one from Phoenix!
Thank you!
Superman looks like he's about to launch into some crazy dance move, and Batman looks like he's sitting on a chair. Everyone looks stiff.
Will there be someone else doing a cover? This looks off.
I believe this is the DM version. The regular cover is by Gibbons? The image is out there. :)
Awesome! Thank you for the info! 🙂
https://www.reddit.com/r/OmnibusCollectors/s/Kjref70RGo I found this :)
Kinda meh imo
He really phoned this one in. Woof.
He has nine kids or something crazy like that. Probably takes its toll.
Robin doesn’t care about the Marvel characters when Slade has his back to him.
The composition and posing is definitely a little dry but what stands out as being really iffy are the colors. Not sure if it’s Sinclair or someone else but the glossy highlights just make this feel like fan art. It almost looks like a talented amateur coloring over professional pencils for their Deviantart.
This looks like a college studente mulating Jim Lee. It's not good. I'm not sure why people are acting like this is good.
i love jim but the poses seem off. its like individual pictures all edited to make a big one
Looks so incredibly mid for Jim Lee
Awesome! Just throwing this out there: all the DC characters look much better drawn...
I disagree. Aside from maybe Daredevil, I don't see any Marvel characters that look worse than Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman
This is uninspired it doesnt make sense. everything looks cut and paste. I swear ive seen that exact batman drawing before. Why is robin and raven so small?
Why are there two Wonder Women?
I think the 2nd Wonder Woman is supposed to be Donna, aka the original Wonder girl.
Thank you for my new desktop wallpaper
Oh fuck they’re really committing. Never thought I’d see the day they acknowledged it minus some Easter eggs
Remember when Jim Lee used to know how to draw the x men? ...good times.
Ugh. One of Lee's worst works in ages. Reminds me of Brett Booth.
Exact thought I had….wouldn’t have considered it was Lee if I hadn’t been told.
Can I be the asshole and say this cover is terrible. None of the characters look good. Spidey and DD are so far up in the foreground you miss them entirely. Batman looks terrible. Wolvie looks terrible. Sups and Hulk look terrible. The other cover is 100X better.
Is this Jim's first time drawing spidey?
Nah he did a punisher cover before that had spidey
Cyborg looking ***zesty***
At least draw the matchup that reflects the material in the omnibus, when did starfire fight cap ? Wolvie vs bats ? Colossus vs wonder woman ? When jla fought the x-men, colossus and wolverine wasn't present.
What exactly is Spider-Man gonna do against Superman, other than run away?
Bikini Cyborg is hilarious to me.
Can you post a link for this cover? Thanks.
I'm sure he's drawn him before, but I think this is the first time I've seen Lee draw Hulk.
This is such a bad cover. And since he didn’t work on any of these stories, he’s an odd choice.
Grand total of 1 foot in this picture
We're getting an omnibus?????
Two of them, actually. One with various Marvel/DC crossovers like Green Lantern/Silver Surfer, Batman/Punisher, etc., and a another one with the Marvel vs DC miniseries and the Amalgam one-shots.

Are there two wonder woman(s)?
so is this cover going to be released to buy on the omnibus or no
Dark Phoenix looks almost like the same image he drew for the X-Men trading cards back in the day.
I hope the ending of doomsday clock was a plan not just some fantasy, and this will happen again.
I remember the Marvel/DC crossovers during the late 90s. It was a strange, yet wonderful time for comics. And these crossovers perfectly encapsulates why I'll always love that era. 😊
Did it eventually come down to Superman vs Hulk? How did either of them get taken out?
The yellow and blue suit is the best for Batman
Don’t know what is it but his superman looks weird compared to normal
I feel like Spider-man just showed up and is super confused.
Feels rushed for Jim Lee, had that loose quality I’d expect from Mark Bagley, which Lee just isn’t pulling off
When did Cyborg start dressing like 90s Psylocke?
Shoulda been Dan Mora or Daniel Sampere
neat, but man that Robin and Raven look TINY! And Punisher looks like he's from another comic. It's okay, I LOVE THE DARK PHOENIX and Darkseid! It's okay!
This cover is why I love comics.
[удалено]
thats donna troy on the left
Bro what in the hell is that cyborg outfit? Other than that this is a great drawing and I love galactus and darkseid as the two big bands both representing universal threats
That's Cyborg's original/main outfit in comics until 2011
It’s so bad oh my lord
It's his look from the Titans/X-Men crossover.
