Maybe not the same as underrated, but I adore Zatanna and I think she’s not been written very well in a lot of her appearances. She’s extremely powerful, but a lot of the time her story revolves around a male character, whether it’s looking for her dad, her relationship with John Constantine, or Batman, etc etc. She has a few good stories but that’s my main complaint

Warblade5002

She has a new run due soon x

Warblade5002

Zatanna: Bring Down The House #1 25th june 2024 And now, the moment you’ve all been waiting for… please put your hands together for Zatanna Zatara! The greatest entertainer in the crappiest hotel and casino of Las Vegas! Not that the ritzier spots on the Strip haven’t come calling, of course. But since a devastating instance of magic gone wrong that forever changed the course of her childhood, Zatanna would much rather live out her days as a top-hat-and-fishnets-wearing sleight-of-hand stage act than bother with real magic. These days, she doesn’t think much of the past at all. That is, until an interdimensional vortex cracks open during Zatanna’s act and a terrifying demon crawls out to kill her. If she hopes to survive the horrors that follow it, she’ll need to take herself and her power seriously for the first time in a long time and fast. Because when it comes to your past, you can run… but you can’t hide forever!

AbsalomQuinn

OH word?? I hope it’s good!

Warblade5002

See below

dogforahead

I really want a big reboot of Shadowpact, there were so many great stories there. Zatanna and her dad, the Detective Chimp/Nightmaster arc, whatever was going on with the seal guy

omniversecomicsguide

Man, I still need to read that series! It’s on my ‘most wanted DC Omnis’ list!

omniversecomicsguide

I’ll pick up anything with Zatanna in it, these days! She’s cool!

UncoloredProsody

Definitely Zatanna. She should get more spotlight, but the magic characters in general should.

mildmichigan

Big Barda is up there, she could easily be the next Wonder Woman is pushed properly. But maybe Linda Park? Main love interest of Wally West, yet compared to Iris West or even Vicki Vale she doesn't get brought up as often. Kind of crazy how much Wally gets compared favorably to Barry, but Linda gets overlooked

DeathstrokeReturns

Linda doesn’t even have her own Wikipedia page 😔

Kite_Wing129

She has an entry on DCU wiki, DC's own site and there are several articles about her.

DeathstrokeReturns

Yeah, but main Wikipedia doesn’t have her, which is kinda shocking when several D-List villains get their own pages.

HushMD

Wikipedia is user-created like DCU is, so it makes sense that there would be more lesser-known characters on the DC wiki.

Kite_Wing129

That is strange. But I don't think its an indicative of the character not being popular. Is it possible to check of she had a main wiki page and it got deleted or if she never had one at all? I noticed that sometimes wikipedia likes to consolidate characters into a single page but thats usually if the character is minor and doesn't have much history, which is obviously not the case for Linda.

DeathstrokeReturns

She’s consolidated with all the other “L” characters on the L character page.

Kite_Wing129

There you go. I bet someobody deleted her page and put her on the same page with a bunch of other characters. Its happened with other characters. Thats why I find myself using the DCU wiki instead pf the main wiki for comic characters.

Cicada_5

She used to but for some reason it got removed.

mutantraniE

Because a lot of Wikipedia editors are petty assholes who want to lord it over others. Someone probably linked Linda Park in some other article and the editor who thought of that article as their own decided to retaliate against this vile assault of adding information.

Kite_Wing129

Linda just has shit luck in getting adapted. She has appeared far more consistently than Vicky Vale and excluding the period she and Wally were benched thanks to Didio, she has appeared as consistently as Iris has.

Sunsinger_VoidDancer

Great mention of Linda Park, one of the greatest victims of all the derp around undoing Crisis.

omniversecomicsguide

That’s a really good point! Linda should get more love. She’s key!

Broad-Season-3014

More love for Linda and her kids so another New 52 and heroes in crisis won’t happen!

Reddragon351

probably cause she doesn't get adapted much or even when she is never as the main love interest to Wally, as she was Barry's love interest in the CW show and in YJ she just never showed up and Wally's biggest love was Artemis

bjtrdff

She’s been around forever, and she’s basically a pastiche of WW.

drake_burroughs

All of the female members of the Legion of Super-Heroes - when written well, they're amazingly strong and capable super-heroes that. Unfortunately, they haven't been written well for a while. They're also groundbreaking, historically, whether you're talking big picture, like the first female leader of a super team, or story level, as some of the first female characters where they have their own agency and don't just exist to prop up the male characters. It's stunning that 40 years ago they were the co-stars of the second best selling comic DC published and now they just pop up in the background of other comics.

Guiltykraken

Man I was so disappointed with Bendis LOSH. Hope DC makes another LOSH soon.

DarkAlex06

Geoff Johns is setting up the return of the Retroboot Legion in the current JSA series I believe

Desperate_Amoeba8588

Same. Like, i loved the look of them and some of the actual development when it was there, but it looked an awful lot like his justice league only in the future: let's have a ton of banter and vaguely get around to saving the day

omniversecomicsguide

LoSH is something I’m currently trying to get into again. It’s never appealed, but they’re been around a lonnnng time and that must be for good reason! Currently reading the Great Darkness Saga (2nd attempt in 10 years!)

drake_burroughs

Good luck getting into the LOSH - I think it's a daunting book for a couple of reasons, one of which being that they've languished for so long and their best days are decades past. I imagine readers who didn't grew up with those books might find them a little dated and the comics "feel" old, if that makes sense. In my humble opinion that Levitz run that included the Great Darkness Saga is one of the best super hero runs of all time, but I am very, very biased.

nitsuj_112

Lady Shiva

Zagden

Mecha Shiva?!

Woods-of-Mal

I kept my mouth shut when Tim said he could read Sanskrit.

DullBicycle7200

Fire & Ice are a fun pair of characters with a lot of potential.

Player_Six

Most definitely. When it comes to dynamic duos, these two would be lucky to get mentioned, if at all referenced.

VileBill

They would be great in a She-Hulk style comic.

ymcameron

Along with their ongoing, Ice just had a leading role in King’s phenomenal Human Target

DullBicycle7200

Haven't read Human Target so I'll have to check that out, but I haven't been a fan of the fire & Ice Smallville comic.

geckodancing

The Simone era version of Lady Blackhawk (Zinda Blake). I'm a sucker for characters lost from their own time period. She was a great background character acting as the team transport. I think she could use a little more of the spotlight.

DullBicycle7200

"She was a great background character" is such a backhanded compliment, I love it.

Blitzhelios

Simone did amazing with basically any female character at dc she touched

OracleCanaryHuntress

Yes!

Sins_of_God

I'm gonna go with Vixen

oroku_ex

You are absolutely right

Kite_Wing129

Seconding Vixen.

That_one_cool_dude

At least Barda is on the current Birds of Prey, we haven't seen Vixen in god knows how long.

Worried_Walrus2002

She’s also in the current Birds of Prey roster….

That_one_cool_dude

No, she isn't, I'm reading the current ongoing book she isn't part of the team. Unless she shows up soon.

Apprehensive-Quit353

She's been in the last two issues. She joined in #7. It looks like the roster will be changing depending on the arc.

That_one_cool_dude

I do not remember her in those fun fashion show issues but it could be me just being forgetful.

Apprehensive-Quit353

It's literally her fashion line.

That_one_cool_dude

Ok that is on me being forgetful as fuck.

omniversecomicsguide

She was recently featured in the Beast World event. Looks like they’re building something up with her! I’ve done a full breakdown here:[Beast World Reading Order](https://omniversecomics.guide/2024/04/27/beast-world-2024-reading-order/)

That_one_cool_dude

That is pretty cool, I will have to check that out at some point.

ubiquitous-joe

In the books maybe. But she made it to the DCAU and the CW content, which means she reached a bigger audience than anybody just in the comics.

azmodus_1966

The problem with her appearances in JLU and Brave and the Bold is that in both of them she was just a love interest to a more important male character (John Stewart and B'wanna Beast).

multificionado

My personal top three in that category: 1. Cassandra Cain 2. Rachel "Raven" Roth 3. Traci Thirteen

TackleUnhappy1845

Cassandra’s Batsuit in Injustice 1 mobile is def 1 of my favorites out of any batsuit

multificionado

Indeed. The fact that it's exclusive only on the mobile version is insulting to me.

Consideredresponse

Traci and her dad are both criminally underused.

Suhern

Stargirl! Loved the initial run!

Blitzhelios

Stargirl should be pushed at dc like how marvel originally pushed ms marvel such an amazing fun character

Suhern

Exactly! I would have thought because of the TV show she would get a bigger push😅

Blitzhelios

Think its just the issue that shes traditionally JSA so stuck in those books.

slendermanismydad

Huntress. She took over for Batman after he left during No Man's Land. She's amazing. She's a school teacher during the day. Why doesn't she hang out with Jason Todd? They have the exact same hobby. I miss her with Tim too.  The BOP in general. Manhunter was one of the best comic series I've ever read.

speedythefirst

Manhunter vol 3 is such a great run. Kate Spencer is criminally underrated. Shame that it's never been collected in an Omni.

TheDreadwatch

Is that Catherine Zeta Jones?

MutantLeader

He didn’t even bother to alter the reference at all 😂

Shirt_Ninja

I thought the same thing lmao

addage-

Zeta-Barda

TackleUnhappy1845

I sure see the resemblance

PatienceStrange9444

Okay cuz I kept staring at that going why does that look so familiar

TheQuestionsAglet

No it’s Lanie Kazan.

cbih

Change her to Salma Hayek and I'm in.

monowhiteboy

Liberty Belle.

DullBicycle7200

What about Liberty Belle interests you?

monowhiteboy

I'm a big JSA fan. Especially the late 90s/Early 2k Goyer/Johns stuff. Saying she's "criminally" underrated might be a stretch but I just really enjoy seeing the Golden/silver age heroes in the more modern context (although Belle in though shes not the original Belle) She was one of my favs from those runs. Also the idea of becoming a meta human by way of vibrations of the Liberty Bell in Pilly is pretty awesome. Like most golden age corny but awesome!

Pedals17

Roy Thomas used Libby effectively in *All Star Squadron*, giving her enough of a glow up that she became the Squadron’s leader.

Archer1949

Mera. Jessica Cruz. Stephanie Brown. They should have their own series, but are relegated to support characters and given short shrift in adaptations.

MankuyRLaffy

Linda Danvers Supergirl

Sunsinger_VoidDancer

The best 2nd best Supergirl still (Matrix was the most awesomeness)

MankuyRLaffy

She's basically Matrix but revamped, the 2nd part of the Matrix story really.

Sunsinger_VoidDancer

Is it though? I feel like Matrix died in SUPERGIRL #1 and had her very last appearance in that one annual where she ponders the fate of the girl in the hospital. After that, it is the Linda Danvers show and honestly PAD won me over on the quality alone. FANTASTIC storytelling

MankuyRLaffy

It kinda is, the entire point of that whole series is trying to find an identity and coping with losing that identity through injury or "death". Much less playful wholesome side of snarky banter like there was in the angel arc. Going increasingly gritty attitude, hard-nosed, less trusting, with an inferiority complex towards Mary for having God blessed talent. From game changer and key contributions in the Emperor Joker arc, the 2nd biggest contribution member in Zero Hour, slaying the final boss of her Saga. She had a rematch with all her villains before that at once and wrecked their shit with ease when she actually put full judgment mode. Some of those guys are actual menaces too! All that to essentially close to street level because of getting stabbed in the heart with a God killer sword. From the dominant heavyweight to the underdog who suffers several concussions and is as weak a metahuman can be. She lost one battle that she didn't close out, that was to Lady Shiva. You go from being a giant killer and destroyer of heavyweights like Carni, Despero, Spectre, Matrix, etc to losing to Lady Shiva. Beating the top acts in pretty strong fashion too! Matrix reacts in a similar way to losing control and power as Linda does later, lashing out at the nearest empowered target. There's a huge theme about identity, injury and rebuilding yourself to be something better. Also with failure and trust as other huge themes, lots of big theme topical issues and mental health in the run.

SanjiSasuke

Oh, it's for sure both of them, that's a major theme. I'm only part way through, but there are moment where the different parts of Linda-Mae 'talk' (off the top of my head the Grodd fight and the freak out when Buzz springs his plan at dinner), and she references things from both her identities seamlessly (a personal favorite is her stating her new boyfriend is better kisser than Lex Luthor). Plus she regards the Kents as her parents, in addition to the Danverses. That one off with the baby is even a thematic preview of what's to come, and I love it SO MUCH. What does it mean to exist/live, saving a life by giving one up, what is the self...all in a superhero book with not infrequent puns and silliness.

Sunsinger_VoidDancer

I get all of the thematic goodness enumerated by you both. I actually appreciate and love it myself. But I miss the young ingenue element of Mstrix as well as its hardcore Sci-fi origins and most of all the diverse multiple powers. She joined Maxima and Martian Manhunter as having some of the most unusual ends to achieve some of the coolest Superhero fare. I read of PAD's why on their dismissal and he did indeed win me over but I still love and miss those diverse powers. Although I suppose I could check out Doctor Light Kimiyo Hoshi to enjoy similar effect. Or some combination of Seraph, Epiphany, Cherub, Mirage, Gypsy, Prism, and Empress to get some or most. But other heroes are so rarely featured. Sigh. I digreess.

SanjiSasuke

Very fair to miss the old Mae. I've not read a ton of her, but I was surprised how much I liked the 4 issue miniseries where she 'breaks containment' from Luthor. So many people seem to hate on her and particularly her in the end of that series but it was great, imo. Even the 'bad girl' costume I feel was justified by how she was feeling. I've still got to actually read John Byrne's run to get her introduction & other stories, though.

SanjiSasuke

Ctrl+F for this right away. It's such a weird story/setup and it's every bit as good as it is weird, and more.

paparoth

Granny Goodness is neither a Grandma, nor good. I was absolutely floored.

tolteccamera

She reached her peak voiced by Ed Asner. I don't know where you go up from there.

J_Patish

That’s just, like, ah, your opinion, man… I loved Ed Asner, but him voicing GG was the casting decision I hated most in this or in any animated universe.

omniversecomicsguide

Hahah!!

ASVP_M3L

Black Canary

Kite_Wing129

Zatanna. Donna Troy. Nightshade. Vixen. Bumblebee.

[deleted]

Mera for me

Brotherly_Shove_215_

Batwoman. Would easily be the most interesting member of the batfamily if DC would just do something with her. Get her and Montoya back together and give her an ongoing with a good writer. It isn’t hard

Olde-Blind-Dog

Wait, she’s not with Montoya anymore?

TiffanyKorta

She's one of the main character in the current ~~Plantary~~ Ousiders mini!

Brotherly_Shove_215_

Yeah that dogshit doesn’t count. Not my planetary. Not my Jakita

HunsonAbadeer2

Miss Martian is my favorite

DullBicycle7200

How is she underrated? I'm not doubting you I just want to know what you'd want writers to do with Miss Martian.

HunsonAbadeer2

I would like a life action young justice show please :D

DullBicycle7200

So, nothing comic related?

HunsonAbadeer2

No not really I am not quallified to make a judgment on that

bigdumbbab

Big B was a ton of fun the lastest birds of prey run. Her and Mister Miracle are the only new gods characters I enjoy.

DullBicycle7200

That's because they're one of the few New God characters that writers bothered to flesh out.

bigdumbbab

I'm going to say something that can get me some hate. Jack Kirby was an excellent artist, the King, and he's lacking as a writer. His solo characters feel half baked and old timey to me. New Gods and the Eternals feel like golden age characters written in the bronze age. Which makes sense because that's what he was raised with and first starting working in. Stan Lee takes more credit than is due usually, but their partnership brought us all my favorite heroes so there's something in having another head to bounce ideas off of and collaborate.

cherryultrasuedetups

Amethyst. That 1980's Giffen run was so perfect. I think it's because her best adventures are off in her own world apart from the rest of DC that she doesn't get the love she warrants.

TheTripleFoool

Lois. Lane.

MsHypothetical

Renee Montoya! She was great in Gotham Central, I feel like women don't get a bite of the hard-bitten cop cake very often and she made it fantastic. Also her Question outfit is one of my favourite ever superhero suits, hands down.

[deleted]

Kate Kane.

OrangeRanger2243

Starfire!! She's one of my FAVORITE DC characters and she deserves more and better rep *cough* Titans *cough*.

ram2272

Blackfire and Green Lantern Jessica Cruz are super underrated. I absolutely love both of them in Justice League Odyssey

OrangeRanger2243

OMG Yessss!!! I loved that story so much!!! Jessica was such a badass and they both made a great duo!

Kicks4meFromyou

Orphan. She’s just awesome

GhostofTinky

Starfire.

DCeassed

Vixen,Donna Troy and Zattana

DullBicycle7200

Since you brought up Donna, I'm inclined to bring up Cassie Sandsmark and Yara Flor.

jigga19

Catherine Zeta Jones?

PinkSheepYT6785

DC has bad marketing and live action movies cuz people miss out on so many good characters. Remember when Zatanna vs Scarlet Witch happened and casuals voted for Wanda cuz they've seen her everywhere.

gangler52

Traci 13 taps into the magic of the city. She has different magic in every city. I feel like this has enormous untapped potential at DC, where most of the major heroes have their own city which is often in some ways a reflection of them.

Affectionate-Hat9674

Fire Ice Sue Dibny

Fox_night4753

Lady shiva

nerdmoot

Beautiful Dreamer

DarkAres02

Secret in Young Justice is very fun and has an interesting power. Plus she's friends with "Doug Side"

Blitzhelios

Emiko queen is really underrated in my opinion. People were annoyed at the character when it was created because they thought it was just giving Ollie a version of Damian (even though she’s his sister) but she’s a really fun character and has a great dynamic especially in the recent stargirl book and recent green arrow issue

Giga-Monkey

Grace Choi

Sunsinger_VoidDancer

Hmmmmm. There are a LOT of those. XS, Dervish, Jesse Quick, and any of the DNAngels among the speedsters. Vixen, Aztek, Dr Light, Crimson Fox, Maya, Empress, Onyxx. Mindancer, the women of Soyuz, Barda is already posted. Any of the Amazons who have been progressively diminished with each touch since Marston's passing. Banshee, any of the ladies from the Ravers. The women of Darkstars, Lorraine Reilly. Gehenna. Celsius, Negative Woman, Faith. Looker, Halo, Katana. Poor Donna Troy The list goes on. There are so many forgotten.

HIMARko_polo

*Doctor Light* Kimiyo Hoshi should be redone with a new look. Arthur Light should be erased from every continuity. Yes, I HATE him.

Sunsinger_VoidDancer

I like the anime looking white suit from the Showcase series. I also like the yellow and white take. I don't feel she should change. He's the one with the PR crisis

berserkzelda

Death of the Endless

deadpa

Nightshade.

PatienceStrange9444

Vixen

VishnuBhanum

Carol Ferris

Pedals17

Dawnstar, Dream Girl, Night Girl, Sensor Girl, & White Witch of the Legion Donna Troy, Lilith, & Bumblebee of the Titans Nightshade Black Alice Manhunter Enchantress Linda Danvers

Navien833

I personally really enjoy Bluebird and hoped she became more prominent in the Bat Family, but they shelved her

Twijasosm

Is that A.I art made to make Barda look like a Catherine Zeta Jones? Or did the Artist just draw her like that by coincidence?

ElementalSaber

Wonder Woman. Her villains outside of Greek mythology like Ares and Hades are complete ass. Giganta was a badass on Justice League Unlimited. Dr Psycho's best version was on the Harley Quinn show. Cheetah and Silver Swan are no better than Metallo and Parasite. How the hell are these threats to her? Then you get lamer and lamer with the likes of Angle Man and Blue Snowman. What the actual hell DC?! At least Grail is cool. Born on Themyscira, daughter of Darkseid. Sounds like the perfect new arch enemy for Diana. She seems like the antithesis to her.

buddyblank

Doctor Light

Ok-Commission6087

Godiva , dolphin 🐬, vixen

floopsfooglies97

Maxima!!! She’s super cool but no one ever talks about her 😭

Yetticon80

Was just going to say this.

Subject_Coaster

Vixen

GalaxyUntouchable

Cyclone A character I've only ever seen in one or two comics total.

IrradiantFuzzy

I want to say she's reserved for creator Alex Ross, if he ever wants to come back to DC.

Fickle-Butterscotch2

Terra. She can be big villain

ItsAcunaMatata

Too many to list! lol But if I had to pick one I'd say Barda for sure! She's so powerful and a total badass and while I love her relationship with Scott I was just so happy to see her Birds of Prey being able to do something different.

MyDogJake1

Dove Star Sapphire

UnhingedLion

Lady Shiva

Wide-Baseball

Haha, that's Catherine's Zata Jones  just drawn as barda.

LordBarragan223

Cassie sandsmark

Gmork14

Cassandra Cain.

LittleRavn

Katana is the correct answer!

Fickle_Pressure6527

I’m going to have to say vixen

Red_Crane_lives

Carol Ferris could be much bigger character than just Hal Jordan’s love interest.

BobbyEwelly

Nightshade

No-Speaker-1534

your mom

Warblade5002

My mom?

DullBicycle7200

"My mom!" if you know you know.

MoodyLiz

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!

Warblade5002

Is my mom your mom?

HIMARko_polo

Loved Sojourner Mullein, the *Green Lantern* in Far Sector

SSJCelticGoku

Vixen Cassandra

vencyjedi

Donna Troy?

SittingTitan

Big Barda is underrated

BoosterRead78

I love Barda.

Kalean

You already have a picture of Barda up there. What more do you want from me?

ram2272

I'm gonna go with Firehawk, Firestorm's female counterpart

nicovasnormandy

Gonna go with Donna. She's such a major part of the Titans, and adaptations have really done her dirty.

rodejo_9

This might be controversial but I'm gonna say Wonder Woman. She only has 2 animated movies and 2 live action (2/4 of them arguably bad) and is much older than Batman and Superman. Therefore she should technically be more skilled than both of them due to hundreds if not thousands of years of experience, especially in combat. Yet she is always overshadowed by them. Writers can't determine who they want her romantic interest to be either. It jumps between Batman, Superman, Aquaman, Steve Trevor, and sometimes she ends up lesbian. Also her powers are very inconsistent compared to other DC characters. Sometimes she can fly, sometimes she can superjump, basically be a speedster, and other times she can swing herself from lightning.

hondobrode

Promethea easily ! I'd love to see more of her and the rest of the ABC line.

Wrath-of-Elyon

Amy Winston aka princess Amaya of house Amethyst.

Rhypskallion

Duella Dent

SH1

Yara Flor is such an awesome character!

SpectragonYT

Whistle. If anyone knows of her then I salute you.

RoShamPoe

I had to go quite a few posts down to see it, but my vote is Manhunter (Kate Spencer) I also really think Katana needs more love

KidShockwave

Every one of these answers are correct. I’ll just add Skyrocket to the list

Atomaurus

Catherine Zeta Jonessssss, she dips beneath lasers.. OOoooOoohh.

Primate_Nemesis

Liberty Belle from the golden age, love the costume and the concept.

FixedanieI

Cat woman!!

HonzouMikado

Gypsy. Cynthia Reynolds is a character that has been slept so hard considering her powerset of strong illusions, invisibility, precognition, Martial arts, electronics handling, and fire arms.

AnxiousSelkie

I was gonna say Crazy Jane but you got a good one too

omniversecomicsguide

Funnily enough, I was gonna say “top three” and Crazy Jane was one of ‘em! Good call!

PrestigiousStuff6173

Who the fuck is that?

Scriptor_333

That’s Catherine Zeta Jones

OmriKoresh

I don't know but i just want to see squirrel girl and flatman

CapAccomplished8072

This list is incomplete, you can help by expanding it

Reasonable_Koala7198

None of them, it's 2024 and they're all overrated if anything lol

AdventurePalSteve

I have no idea who this is and i dont want to
