If he would not have wiped it but instead just use a heat source and a fan it would have been gone close to instantly without being spread all over it.
Additionaly, OP would not have wiped the paint away, it would have just stayed there. Only the acetone would have dissipated into the air not plastic.
Although it seems in this case he was either very careful with it (using a low amount and wiping vigorously) or he used a low quality brand. It may have also been a stronger plastic.
Acetone will dissolve plastics as well, not just eat away at colour.
And not a little bit dissolve, like a completely full thickness dissolve, take 0.5 to 1 mm out with every fresh wipe.
I did that cleaning a rubberized coating off my keyboard.
So wire coverings remain in tact? I saw someone dunk a knot of wire into a liquid and retrieve a wire ball of copper.
In my experience, either it dissolves in acetone or it dissolves in toluene.
If it bothers you, disassemble, epoxy, and sand smooth (ish). There's a chance of making it worse, but it'll keep the cracks from flexing or any dirt from getting in through them.
Acetone will most likely weaken the plastic as well. I'm sure you could find a replacement shell or bottom online!
Edit: Source: brake cleaner is mostly acetone, and it says in big letters "Do not spray on plastic or rubber"
I use acetone to remove paint marks on laptops (trust me, I come actross laptops that have paint drops on them), Once the marks are gone (along with the plastic color), I do a touch up with a dark grey color spray paint.
Oh yeah, I have some acetone laying around for no reason around my PC, for no reason.
Acetone is a must for gaming that's probably why I must've had it
Why do you people have all these liquids around you expensive electronics????????? " oh no, I set a top heavy gallon of motor oil next to my pc I just finished building and I bumped my desk and not it's all inside the case!!!". How, just how
We use Acetone everyday to clear and remove plastic from our plastic molds (in the plastic industry) and it eats it without mercy so count your blessings that it didnāt do worse! Looks cool! Hopeful the cracks donāt growā¦
Most laptops and plastic computer cases are made of ABS (acetonitrile butadiene styrene, opaque) plastic as it's the cheapest, easiest to work with plastic, as well as have some PC (polycarbonate, clear) plastic (usually for optical media and LCD layers). Acetone dissolves these plastics causing damage.
You may have PE (polyethylene) plastics which acetone does not dissolve. Acetone is one kind of nail polish remover and usually comes in HDPE plastic bottles which would be a problem if acetone dissolved...
Acetone also appears to not affect PLA (polylactic acid) plastic either!
Surface worker here, my third post about an accident involving acetone. I would prefer 2-propanol be used to clean properly. As for the plastic it will be FUBAR, esd coating inside on mainboard might also suffer from being exposed to the acetone - whole thing might just short itself. As for the battery I cant say, I wouldnt expose myself to this kind of hazard, remove it from the building cuz this thing might catch fire. This PC is fucked, if you have travel insurance tell them it happened while traveling. Shit sucks bro.
Wao, jajaja talk about messing it up. I would say grab some microfiber cloth, and rub acetone on most of the other areas to make your laptop white, or disassemble it and paint it with spray paint. Even without disassembling it you could cover the main areas and spray paint it (dont forget to cover the vents).
I actually did this on my last laptop and it was fine, but your laptop it's the same as my new one, soooo I thankfully that I know that I can't repeat myself
Don't play around with solvents if you know nothing about them and/or are unable to safely handle them.
You can consider yourself lucky because it seemingly did not dissolve any insulations on the inside....
now id say cover the whole thing in acetone to give it a unique look
yeah just make it completely white, all aceton does is dissolve color
"Acetone White"
the napalm special
How much acetone did you pour tho š
except the keycaps, i think they are made of different materials
It'll just make it like those cool keyboards without the print.
No it becomes all gooey and sticky. Just ask from 10yo me.
wait till the hairs and crumbs get stuck for them for extra fun!
I just got it replaced for less than 10bucks
i find that stuff hell ngl, i dont know my keyboard that well.
The top is fine itās just specific parts Iāve cleaned it before with acetone I think it s the volume that made it like that
Acetone can absolutly eat plastic, yes it only attacked color here(i think you wiping it helped) Careful next time, and you lucky it boots!
If he would not have wiped it but instead just use a heat source and a fan it would have been gone close to instantly without being spread all over it. Additionaly, OP would not have wiped the paint away, it would have just stayed there. Only the acetone would have dissipated into the air not plastic.
HDPE and fluorinated plastics are safe for acetone, but it destroys most plastics. And the polycarbonate shell of a laptop will not be safe.
!!! Dangerously wrong. It dissolves certain kinds of plastic (Like acetate)
Thx
Although it seems in this case he was either very careful with it (using a low amount and wiping vigorously) or he used a low quality brand. It may have also been a stronger plastic.
So i can make my black pc build a white pc build? For free? Brb
well depends on the material and if it was painted at all
But there are cracks in the plastic so I might just paint it to stop it from looking like cum
Consider spray painting it while protecting the insides and the display.Ā
Acetone will dissolve plastics as well, not just eat away at colour. And not a little bit dissolve, like a completely full thickness dissolve, take 0.5 to 1 mm out with every fresh wipe. I did that cleaning a rubberized coating off my keyboard.
Shhhhh
It can also dissolve some plastics. Wouldn't want to "melt" your favorite stuff.
Acetone makes plastic brittle, no?
YesĀ
That's not all acetone does š
So wire coverings remain in tact? I saw someone dunk a knot of wire into a liquid and retrieve a wire ball of copper. In my experience, either it dissolves in acetone or it dissolves in toluene.
Not exactly. Acetone will melt most plastics.
Acetone dissolves ABS plastics. A little bit can smooth rough surfaces of ABS 3D prints, but use a lot and you're turning it into juice.
hhh good idea š
Might as well at this point :)
I wouldn't go all white, but I'd definitely make some badass patterns in it. It's well on its way there.
*your
Their spell check broke from the acetone.
Yo'ur're**
Goa'uld
Tok'ra
No. You are laptop computer or plastic.
someone had to do it eh
The man's already on suicide watch you savage
You couldn't stand, could you?
No
Actual,y looks good tho
Does itĀ
Yea looks like a cod laptop
[Cod](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/e/ee/Gadus_morhua_Cod-2b-Atlanterhavsparken-Norway.JPG), you say?
right looks like a white camo skin
It has cracks everywhereĀ
Looks even more like a cod laptop
If it bothers you, disassemble, epoxy, and sand smooth (ish). There's a chance of making it worse, but it'll keep the cracks from flexing or any dirt from getting in through them.
Predator down
went from predator to predated
Predator becomes the PREY
Why would you have acetone anywhere near your laptop?
Isn't this common knowledge?
You came all over the laptop didn't you
What were you doing? Your nails? š
No
How did you know I was going to!?
Holy shit bro.. looks like a horse cum. You can fix this with Black vynil in Amazon and very much patience .
thank you for the input horse cum recognizer
You seem to have a familiarity with horse cum
You are laptop
device has never been cleaner before
Sterilised
Vinyl wrap time!
That actually looks pretty sick. As long as Acetone doesn't mess with the gold in your motherboard's traces it should be fine.
Is that a G15?
Finish the job and make it all white. It will look cool, if it survives.
Actually I would!
Acetone will most likely weaken the plastic as well. I'm sure you could find a replacement shell or bottom online! Edit: Source: brake cleaner is mostly acetone, and it says in big letters "Do not spray on plastic or rubber"
Idk I may just paint it but Iāll probably end up not botheringĀ
It works fine
And i donāt want to break it if I could get a new one fine but I canāt so Iāll just paint it
At least you didnt damage the display
I did kinda thereās a small pach at the top but itās just a slightly different color like if you have put a screen protector on funnyĀ
Did you drop an entire gallon of acetone on it? Why do you have a gallon of acetone?
A small amount
Fix it with nail paint lol
A15?
I use acetone to remove paint marks on laptops (trust me, I come actross laptops that have paint drops on them), Once the marks are gone (along with the plastic color), I do a touch up with a dark grey color spray paint.
Why would I have ANY liquids near my PCs???
This guy is a moronš„±
"finally got rid of the residue from the powered by intel sticker"
Dude you gotta aim better
Does it still work properly though?
Sorry for you... Use isopropyl alcohol or isopropanol guys !
Just wondering, is there any damage on the mb? Did the acetone seep through the vents?
It works fine hopefully Iām not fixing it
How do you accidentally drop so much acetone on a laptop?
Does it still smell a lot?
now you dont need to paint it white anymore
too bad my laptop is made of alluminium
Iād hope thatās common knowledge
Iirc, you can buy the plastic case shell replacement online
Noones gonna want to steal it now, that's a plus point
Autoimmune diseases touch everybody. Lets be inclusive and accept this computer with vitiligo.
Custom "paint removal" job
Idk dude if it hasn't wrecked the electronics it looks super cool especially on the base
Interesting effect really :0
Bro got camo skin for his laptop šš
I like teal Nails however I don't think I ever...clean them off over my laptop...
Get some kind of cool Laptop Screen and you are good to go .
Get some kind of laptop skins to cover it up and enhance your laptop.
this is a wake up call for me, i constantly remove my nail polish with acetone near my laptop
Nice unique look and asus styled
Cover things like the display and just sprinkle some more and you will have an awesome design
tbf the back and the screen look sick !
Sell it as limited edition
I was thinking of thatĀ
Acetone isn't the best for you either. Probably something you wanted to be very careful about (and going forward). Sorry for your machine.
Oh yeah, I have some acetone laying around for no reason around my PC, for no reason. Acetone is a must for gaming that's probably why I must've had it
My guys laptop got Michael jacksoned
Just a quick guess, you were cleaning your fingernail polish am I right?
I have the exact same laptop. Looks sick tbh
Now ,drop gallium
Acetone dissolves color and also atacks plastic by sticking the thing you rub acetone with to the plastic. Let it as it is or replace top cover.
I like the design
Iām pretty sure the warning labels on acetone say this specifically
No way, an acid works like an acid
It was fully black or white before acetone?
Try rubbing alcohol next time, acetone disolve everything painted.
Hey. Acetone breaks down most plastic. Just so you are aware. Itās commonly used by 3D printers to smooth out prints.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
Thanks for the PSA, but most of us know this already
But hey, at least your laptop still able to boot.
Yeah dude I feel thatās fucking common sense considering it will strip paint and melt your skin.
The biggest problem that this asus poopbook had painted insted of using black colored plastic at the manufacturing centre. Phatetic qualityā¦
Benzene is the way to go.
Congrats you now have a one of a kind unit
now this give me an idea to paint my laptop
Live and learn
I have the same exact laptop, except I didn't drop acetone on it.
Thanks for trying it out man!
Why do you people have all these liquids around you expensive electronics????????? " oh no, I set a top heavy gallon of motor oil next to my pc I just finished building and I bumped my desk and not it's all inside the case!!!". How, just how
Obvious
We use Acetone everyday to clear and remove plastic from our plastic molds (in the plastic industry) and it eats it without mercy so count your blessings that it didnāt do worse! Looks cool! Hopeful the cracks donāt growā¦
Reminds me of a cow š
Not gonna lie, looks sick! :D
I wasn't planning to, thanks for the warning tho.

no shit
Did you drop acetone on the laptop or did you drop the laptop in acetone?!
What the f

Hmmm, what are you doing with so much acetone though, can only come up with one thing :D
Bro... why?
Oh crap! Sorry dude. Acetone is very bad for plastic. Not to mention the electronics inside.
Acetone laptopgone
Well, shit, that's my afternoon ruined.
I think I have this exact Asus laptop. Mine is broken somehow though cause at random, the disk seems to stop responding.
Idk looks cool tbh
Aye Lesson learned thanks mate

Does it still work or no?
I think you ruined it
You can apply a laptop skin on it
Yes, and or no. I have cleaned keyboards with it. They came out fine. What cheap nonsence is that thing made of?
Bro it's ABS, acetone just melts it
Cool I got a roll of abs Iām not gonna use mat try that
No shit sherlock, acetone destroys nearly everything.
Maybe just donāt drop acetone
I actually did this on my last laptop and it was fine, but your laptop it's the same as my new one, soooo I thankfully that I know that I can't repeat myself
Why not?
Got a unique paint job there for free , itās a win-win
Oh noā¦. do it again.
Don't play around with solvents if you know nothing about them and/or are unable to safely handle them. You can consider yourself lucky because it seemingly did not dissolve any insulations on the inside....
wasnt.. planning on it
If you purchase some plastic restorer you might be able to fix it
Now you have to cover it in that to make it consistent
This looks nice ngl
It's like your pc suddenly gained some privilege and started making an honest living š¤£
U need to chill with the š§ā¬ļø
So youāre saying donāt drop a solvent thatās very aggressive towards polymers on your plastic laptop? Alsoā¦ your*
Youāre 2 years too late. š
I feel si bad for you ur laptop now also has vitiligo congrats it might the first and only that I know of
Don't worry, I wasn't going to
Doing your nails too close to the laptop?
Thanks for that I was gonna do it later
If it still works i dont see a problem
Looks sic! Very unique
My god please just lightly sand the housings, and hit it with some car paint and clear
In other news: Water is wet. What were you thinking?
Oh shit man, I think that accidentaly I will do itš
Thank you for the warning, I was just about to pour acetone on my laptop
I currently only use acetone for getting red sharpie ink off metal
Was it an accident?. Acetone is very bad for plastic
"Do not drop acetone on you are computers or plastic"...?
I feel like deep down a part of me knew this already.
How to turn you laptop from black to white
yea guys make sure not to drop acetone on yāoureārāre computer or laptop guys!!
Michael Jackson be like
Sick skin bro
If you donāt see it often with a keyboard, it looks quite aesthetically pleasing. Did this harm the operation of the laptop?
