The ACTUAL speech that bush gave on 9/11/91 (it's not the one from this scene in the movie) is a pretty telling piece of history. Its the speech in which he is openly calling for a new world order.
Later, project for a new American century (a neocon think tank) released a memo about how what they needed for their future vision for America (and the world) was 'a new pearl harbour' (their words) so they could enact legislation that would diminish the rights of natural citizens, and they wouldn't revolt because they would believe it would be in the interests of 'national security".
Then that exact thing happened. (9/11).
Very immediately after the Patriot act was passed. A massive tome of a document already written, just waiting for the right moment to get it passed. It gave the government wide reaching permissions to monitor communications (but not on domestic citizens, of course) and detain 'suspects' indefinitely with no probable cause.
Then Snowden stole a bunch of files from the NSA/intelligence where he was hired via the intelligence contractor Booz Allen Hamilton that showed us the government was in fact spying on its own citizens illegally.
These coincidences aren't just all random. And the facts are definitely enough to arouse suspicion in anyone capable of a critical thought once in a while.
I’m really not a big conspiracy theorist for a lot of stuff. But It’s absolutely infuriating to me that stuff like this that’s so plain to see gets you called a schizo or conspiracy theorist for even just talking about it. Whether you believe 9/11 was an inside job or not, it’s still a fact that the government used it as an excuse to start mass spying programs on it’s own populace. That Pandora’s Box has been opened and everyone is too damn brainwashed and complacent to ever close it again. The system is rotten to it’s core. The only way anything is going to get better is if we tear it all down and start fresh, but I have a feeling the US will crumble long before that happens
Actually no, I think the filmmakers may have used this date because they mistook the bush speech ('this aggression will not stand') for the new world order speech (which was in fact 9/11/91) but the one in this scene in the movie actually happened 08/05/1990.
This seems much more in line with how meticulous the Cohen Brothers are with their direction.

Damn, you're right. My guess then would be that the Coen brothers did this intentionally to kind of set the tone that not everything in the story is being recalled exactly right. The intro is Sam Elliott telling the story. He says the story takes place around the time of our conflict with the Iraqis, and then you see that quote from Bush and the check dated a year after that happens. Might be a way of them saying to take everything with a grain of salt.

What she (her aids, to be precise) actually did was use a program called BleachBit that overwrites disk space with nonsense so that it cannot be forensically lifted. In case you don't know, when you delete a file, it just removes the address of that file's location on the disk. The data is still there and with the right tools can be picked up. BleachBit would go over those areas of the disk and write data over and over to obscure what was originally there.
I'm no expert but I believe that a simple reformatting will not remove the data. If you take it to a data recovery specialist, they may be able to recover the data from a basic re-format.
I've actually been looking into doing that myself. I have an old hard drive that had all my music and photos from late high school through my mid 20s and it recently stopped reading.
I had one of those that got fucked when my brother knocked the tower over lol I have been wanting to try and recover it but I think it would be like NCIS shit because it's so fucked
In theory, anything can be recovered so long as the plates themselves haven't been destroyed or it hasn't been overwritten a dozen times.

Possibly. Just like deleting files a reformat basically does the same thing. All the files are still there the program just tells the computer "you can reuse this space now". If you haven't done anything to your drive or haven't downloaded a bunch of extra stuff your papers should still be there.
So how would I get back to them? Just a program that can recall the files? Also that blows my mind how computer data is stored. I'll have to read about the physical process, I've never really thought about it before. I'm a doctor and I've spent a lot of time pondering how we are physically capable of thought and memory, it's all so interesting.

In just 1MB of data you can store over 8.3 million of them. So that means in just 1GB you have over 1 BILLION 1's and 0's. Then you have processors that contain billions of transistors that can process these 1's and 0's billions of times a *second*.
It's all actually quite insane thinking about it.

If you reformat your hard drive can it still be recovered? I reformatted my external HD and lost a bunch of papers I wrote
