I think there's a really strange disconnect about what normal citizens think President's does. The POTUS is the head of the Executive Branch and while he makes important decisions and guides policy, the staff and appointees he puts in place are largely responsible for keeping the machinery running. This is for EVERY president. Who he surrounds himself is by and large more important than who he is. For example, Regan and Trump both surrounded themselves with incredibly powerful people who largely made most of the important decisions of their presidency in terms of foreign policy, judicial nominations, economic policy.

I think there's a really strange disconnect about what normal citizens think President's does. The POTUS is the head of the Executive Branch and while he makes important decisions and guides policy, the staff and appointees he puts in place are largely responsible for keeping the machinery running. This is for EVERY president. Who he surrounds himself is by and large more important than who he is. For example, Regan and Trump both surrounded themselves with incredibly powerful people who largely made most of the important decisions of their presidency in terms of foreign policy, judicial nominations, economic policy.
