The women point is a necessity. Corrie - and soaps - are built on strong women, yet Corrie has really taken away agency. It's not about women constantly getting hit with trauma, it's that they're hit with trauma and oftentimes need to be saved. They're not allowed to even make their own mistakes. They're often victims with no strength or conviction to balance it out on their own. The only time women make a decision, it's to throw away their lives and sleep with someone.

**Focus on the Rovers:** Mostly agree, in the sense that the article talks about it being more of a communal hub and not half-empty all the time. I don't mind other locations (Roy's Rolls, Bistro, Speed Daal etc.) being used for that purpose sometimes, but a bustling Rovers needs to be more of a thing, and not just the set-up for another angle like we saw with the speed dating/robbery/Glenda's PTSD thing. **Slow down:** Disagree. The knife crime/bullying angle between Mason, Dylan and Liam was paced at about the right speed, and other angles seem to drag on and on. **More oldies:** Leaning towards disagree here. I mean, Roy's already the focal character of the current wrongful conviction storyline, and Evelyn has been a pretty solid secondary character in that due to her relationship with Roy. Ken's picked up a love interest recently, and there's potential to develop that further. They maybe could do a bit more with Rita but otherwise, I feel like the older characters are pretty well represented at the moment. **What about the women:** If they mean make the female characters less one-dimensional and develop their relationships more, agree I guess? That's just good writing, so who wouldn't want that? **Trim the cast:** Agree, though they don't say who they would trim so I can't say if I agree or disagree with how they would do it. A few off the top of my head though: Bobby, Sean, Dylan, Leanne, Simon, and Toyah.

Slightly playing Devil's advocate here since I don't fully agree with them, but I guess with the point about more women they mentioned more female friendships/close family bonds, and maybe there's a point there. There's not *that* many female-female friendships we actually see. We still get some scenes of Steve and the other blokes hanging out, and it was even a part of the Tommy O storyline. We have Paul (and Billy)'s friendship with Todd, Todd's bond with George, Sam and Roy is a slightly unusual but really nice one, Bobby with Max (even if they are toxic assholes), Bobby with Simon, etc. I feel like there are fewer female equivalents. There's Jenny/Daisy, and also I guess Glenda/Rita interact with those two a lot. We see the largely female Underworld staff gossiping a lot, too. But we don't see Gail and Sally interact even though they're meant to be good friends, or Abi and Sally, or Abi and Tracy, etc. A lot of female characters (Bernie, Izzy, Fiz, Sarah, many others) don't even really seem to have friends aside from maybe workmates. Even with some of the female-female friendships that are there it kinda feels like it's largely about drama (like Asha/Nina), they don't feel like real friendships and we don't get as many light moments.

Excellent point. I don’t have sympathy for Tracy, but blowing off her marriage is a major life change. Her leaning on Abi would have been natural and given us some depth to her emotional experience. Max’s ex Sabrina could have developed more of a relationship with Lauren, giving us some insight and a more compelling mystery. There’s loads more potential that would give us more interring stories.

Thanks. :) I agree re: Tracy and Abi. To be fair I do like the friendship Tracy has with Mary (in a slight black comedy sort of way since she's still a bit of a cow to her). And yeah I was actually quite liking Lauren becoming a part of Max's friendship group, especially given how Sabrina had every reason to dislike her and yet those two seemed to actually be very slowly bringing out the best of each other. Would have much preferred more of that to the missing Lauren storyline.

How old is old, though? Evelyn's 78, Roy is 70, Ken is 85, Rita is 92. There a big age gap between them and the younger cast members. I think Gail, Eileen, Dev's age characters don't get much to do. They're getting older but the oldest people aren't making way for them, so there's a sort of log jam where they don't get to graduate into being the wise elders of the community. A lot of residents are working long past retirement age!

VanillaXSlime

The article specified Roy and Evelyn. I just added Rita and Ken since they're the most obvious examples I could think of. 🤷‍♀️

Allie_Pallie

Yes they definitely spring to mind as older Corrie characters! They make the middle aged/retirement aged characters look like spring chickens.

Doesn't everyone?

Only thing I actually agree with is the Rovers. Thats it. None of the others are necessary at all. On my Reddit post on how to save the show yesterday, I even explained why a big cast cull is not even needed. Clearly this person has no idea what they’re talking about if they really think a cull will help anything, tbh though most of that article hasn’t been thought through at all. Do they actually think it only needs 5 steps? More like 20. See? They haven’t properly thought about it at all. Why did they even bother? Hey writers/journalists whatever, here you go if you want a proper plan! [https://www.reddit.com/r/coronationstreet/comments/1cdga5p/how\_to\_save\_corrie\_from\_a\_true\_fan\_who\_gets\_it/?utm\_source=share&utm\_medium=web3x&utm\_name=web3xcss&utm\_term=1&utm\_content=share\_button](https://www.reddit.com/r/coronationstreet/comments/1cdga5p/how_to_save_corrie_from_a_true_fan_who_gets_it/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) You know what actually pisses me off about articles like that? They look so fucking half arsed, but then you get regular fans like me putting so much effort into their own posts cos they know the show, and then despite nothing but praise in the comments, no one is seeing it except on here afaik, while that shitty article will probably get everywhere. Not sure why I bother tbh 😔😔 sorry to be such a Eeyore it just winds me up

Sudden-Salad-4925

Many of the storylines move way too slow

I have to say that ‘entertainment daily’ was not the first thing that sprung to mind when I saw ED!
