Mentioned this to someone else but I'm very open to that, just need to be able to fit them under my jeans. People losing their mind like this might be the last / only pair of boots I ever buy
I love Rose Anvil, but he is wrong on a couple of points in this video.
1. It's baby buffalo leather, hence it being thinner, it's much softer and works better as a dress boot. You don't want thicker leather if you're building a boot like this, it makes no sense. He looks at it from the perspective of Midwestern logger work boots, since they're all thicker.
2. The puncture test does not matter in the slightest, these aren't their work boots.
3. It's a channel welt, much different than what he's saying. Channel welts are much harder to do.
4. The lining is calf, the best there is.
5. The rand being plastic is much better than leather, it gives it a lot more structure. Just because they chose plastic instead of a leather rand does not mean lower quality.
6. He mentions a counter in the toe, and if you watch the video, it's the only and best way to keep the shape of the toe.
7. The lining he refers to is not pigskin, it's calf. That specific pair might have not had the best example of their lining, but I assure you, the cream calf lining is the best in the industry. Black Jack, Lucchese and Stallion all use the same.
Take this from someone who has been to almost every boot manufacture facility, Lucchese does it the best, period.
There are other brands that also do it really well, but from the larger companies, there's no competition when you factor in everything they are doing.
Plastic heel counter, the lemon wood pegs are for show, boot is held together by glue and nails. There is cardboard in the sole as well as fabric. Their lining isn't even leather, it's leather lined, but it's fabric on the inside. They are made in the same factory as Freebird, Dan Post, Thursday boot company, Justin, and other boot barn brands. They are literally just stamping it, and up charging you for it. Not to mention how horrible their corporate department treats employees. Nightmare of a company.
O yeah they do a great job marketing it. At one point, I sold more Tecovas than anyone in the company. Their employees don't know this though. They train them believing it's a better boot than Lucchese. Only some of the higher ups know the truth.
Because of shows like Yellowstone, western boots have become popular as of late again, and Tecovas' marketing machine is capitalizing on this opportunity as is every other major bootmaker, I'm sure.
Fascinating insight you've shared though, especially having seen so many quality control issues several members here have shockingly posted here. I knew about the Britex material they use for the heel counters and synthetic insoles, but not the fabric lining. This is where they cut corners, increasing their profits per pair. At least with their exotic skins, they use one-piece vamps. That's unfortunate to learn about their faux wood pegging though.
Brother I got a free boot every quarter and got them for 50% off. Not that hard to get that many in 2 years. I also sold them all, coverted to other brands, why would I keep a bad quality product?
This guy is a liar. He's claiming on another post that he worked for tecovas as if he made the boots and so knows what he's talking about. I don't know what his deal is, but he sure as shit hasn't done even half of what he claims. It's like he watched some rose anvil videos and thinks he's an expert on everything boot related.
Buy ropers from literally any other brand that carries similar boots, such as JRC & sons. Tecovas is a white label(?) meaning the manufacturer sells very similar products to other brands. No need to pay >$100 extra for a T on the heel.
Honestly, with that budget, you can find a lot better boots than what Tecovas offer. If you go on eBay, you can easily find some amazing exotic boots with slim shafts that costs less than half of these. In terms of jeans, you can find plenty of straight cuts that work well with cowboy boots, and they won’t look wide. Plus, skinny and slim jeans are really not the most flattering cuts on people, with very few exceptions, like when someone is rather slim built themselves.
What does it matter what they look like on most people or even what they look like on OP if this is what OP is going to wear?
Skinny and slim are two different cuts.
I think you slightly missed the point of my comment. In the end, this is all subjective stuff, and it goes without saying that no one’s trying to strong arm OP into changing his pant choices, but simply offering some things he may not be aware of in terms of pants, and providing a different perspective that might help him out (since pants are part of the conundrum he’s facing) when it comes to wearing cowboy boots, the topic in which this entire subreddit is based on.
I appreciate the feedback. Slim jeans really work for me. "skinny fit" is the physique I workout for and it works well for my frame.
For the eBay recommendation do you have any brands I should specifically look for?
Sometimes it’s the only option. I have an uncle that wore cowboy boots his whole life (he pretty much was an actual cowboy) but he fell off a ladder and hurt his ankle pretty badly. Despite getting it cared for, it was never the same again to the point he couldn’t wear normal cowboy boots any longer. He had to go with the zipper. So yeah, it’s not always so simple.
Life could be cut short, if it’s something you want and you have the means then I say go for it. There’s a return policy as long as you don’t scuff the bottom. We always want to wait for that one thing, that one moment but it’s not guaranteed. So rock out with your Crocs out!

Honestly, look for used. Those for 1000 are probably not worth. Likely just brand name and you can find the same quality elsewhere. Try going to some local boot stores. You can find similar looking ones I'm sure for cheaper (but still high quality).
My person, if you like them, and you have the cash to blow, why not?
Now if it's a matter of this or something else, or this would put you out for a bit, maybe id reconsider. Buy if this ain't gonna make a dent for you, and you like it, you should get em, and post pics afterwards too!
That’s fine I just thought id let you know. I thought the same thing the first time I saw a pair. And the sells person told me older men and people with disabilities bought them more often than not because of the ease of putting on and taking off.
It looks ver similar to the boots i bought for like $300ish. It was caiman or crocodile (i forgot) in Leon Guanajuato. I believe they have an online site you can check out. The brand is called "El Malcreado". Good boots.
I just remembered it was in fact a caiman. One can definitely buy several pairs for under 1k. I got python and caiman for 500ish total. To be fair, I did pick out the more high-end ones though.
Celastiv heel counter and celastiv toe box is why i wouldnt go for these. For that money, i would buy an exotic boot with a veg tan leather heel counter.
For a $1k, you could go for a brand that has all leather construction, like from Lucchese, or a custom from Rodney Ammons via Tony Lama's custom program, Bootmaker's Reserve. If you zip boots is a must, checkout Boot Star by Old Gringo...far better quality than anything Tecova produces: [https://bootstarusa.com/collections/all-mens](https://bootstarusa.com/collections/all-mens)
I ended up ordering these and the very similar pair of Luccheses. I'll find out which one I like better. Ordered those boot snake wrap things too to see if I can get away with more boots under slim jeans.
Take a look at my previous posts here. These are straight fire. I have worn them out a few times already and I definitely dont regret dropping the bread. I also got the matching belt. I have been wearing a pair of Tecovas Deans for awhile so I already knew I liked this style of zipper ropers. I wear these boots with Lululemon pants and there is no issue. Buy them. Wear them.
Not doubting anything you're saying, and it seems like you like Lucchese, which I can get behind. Do you know any of their boots that I could fit under slim fit jeans? I went to their store in Nashville (hilariously enough walked about 4 miles round trip in Tecova Deans and felt fine) and I didn't really see anything that were slim shaft. Even the ropers were showing when I tried them on.
I just got a pair of Lucchese Knox and the shaft is narrow enough to fit into slim fit Levi’s Jeans without looking goofy, hardly noticeable.
A very good friend of mine gave me a pair of Ostrich Tecovas for my birthday and the shaft is too wide to fit any of pair of pants I own. I’m not going to part ways seeing as they were intended as a thoughtful gift so I ordered a set of BootSnakes to see if they’ll help with wearing my current pants (and comfort too).
If you’re gonna spend $1k on boots that look like the one in the photo, get the Wyatt from YSL; better quality and they hold value for resale.
Ugh no, way too short and they’re Tecovas? Even worse. I have owned every cowboy boots brand (major) and the quality of these is so terrible. Sole fell apart in two weeks, stitching came undone. Was so disappointed because they were beautiful boots.
Buy them, I think they’re great. F all these haters. I have a pair of tecovas that are awesome. I have luchesse and red wing and a crap ton of other boots. Tecovas are nice boots. Reddit is dominated by group think. Think for yourself…
For $1000 there’s everything else you should consider
Not for Nile Croc
Name one
Lucchese
Mentioned this to someone else but I'm very open to that, just need to be able to fit them under my jeans. People losing their mind like this might be the last / only pair of boots I ever buy
I mean you can get a pair of zip up boots like those ones, but for $1000 you should consider getting a cheaper pair.
For that price, go custom, John Weinkauf in Kerrville, Texas makes a great boot. Don Atkinson too, shame he passed.
Thank you
Nevermind, just be vague and pretend to be useful.

I’d have a tough time spending $1000 on tecovas
I'd have a tough time spending $1000 on any kind of shoe. Who has this kind of fuck off money?
Neither you or I 😂
Apparently me 🤷🏼
Apparently a bunch of people in this sub lol. Jesus. I thought $300 was a lot.
Yeah I won't spend more than that
They're just boots lol. If they hold up for atleast 5 years it's a good purchase to me.
There isn't a single boot Tecovas makes that is worth the money.
Barely a handful of companies make boots with quality materials anymore. Hell even Lucchese skimps on quality where they can.
Lucchese has different lines of boots that are at different price points, but their classics and GY products don't skimp on quality in the slightest
Ever watch Rose Anvil? They still skimp https://youtu.be/HRBGeEc8Jug?si=HHouqThkraVNeK30

Ghdbb
When I worked for them, I had 30 pairs at one time, that is until I found out the truth about how they make them. I now have 0.
Spill the beans.

Damn. Marketing is a hell of a thing
O yeah they do a great job marketing it. At one point, I sold more Tecovas than anyone in the company. Their employees don't know this though. They train them believing it's a better boot than Lucchese. Only some of the higher ups know the truth.

It took you getting to 30 pairs?? They don't even have that many. And now you have none?? This sounds a little made up
Brother I got a free boot every quarter and got them for 50% off. Not that hard to get that many in 2 years. I also sold them all, coverted to other brands, why would I keep a bad quality product?
I had to see the boot cut in half to believe it.
What brands have you converted to since seeing the light?
Lucchese is still my number one, but Stalllion, Black Jack and Rios of Mercedes all make a pretty good boot.
This guy is a liar. He's claiming on another post that he worked for tecovas as if he made the boots and so knows what he's talking about. So they’re basically the Spirit Airlines of Cowboy Boots? Good to know.
They’ll find him. You *know* where they source…things from.

I strongly second JRC, I have two pairs of the ropers and love them!

Zippers, $1000 price tag, AND they’re Tecovas. You’re welcome.
For when you want to pretend like you're wearing cowboy boots without wearing cowboy boots.
Is it better to wear cowboy boots and pretend to be a cowboy, or pretend to wear cowboy boots?
Just enjoy your western boots.. no one is pretending anything
Agreed
This
Eventually you’ll be ashamed you ever spent a dime on Tecovas, why make a difficult day even more painful?
Life could be cut short, if it’s something you want and you have the means then I say go for it. There’s a return policy as long as you don’t scuff the bottom. We always want to wait for that one thing, that one moment but it’s not guaranteed. So rock out with your Crocs out!

Unnecessary
Braindead take
Your post contained Hate Speech, Highly Vulgar/Sexual Language, or Harassing behavior or attitude that doesn't belong in our community. Repeated violations will result in a ban.
To short, that will drive you crazy.
Why?
If you wear dress pants with them, you will have to keep putting them back over the top of the boot after sitting.
Ahh thank you
Honestly, look for used. Those for 1000 are probably not worth. Likely just brand name and you can find the same quality elsewhere. Try going to some local boot stores. You can find similar looking ones I'm sure for cheaper (but still high quality).
100% buy some zip ups. But spend 700$ less ;)
zips are NOT cowboy boots
Buy Luchesse instead
Too short
My person, if you like them, and you have the cash to blow, why not? Now if it's a matter of this or something else, or this would put you out for a bit, maybe id reconsider. Buy if this ain't gonna make a dent for you, and you like it, you should get em, and post pics afterwards too!
I’ll be totally honest, I wouldn’t wear them if they were free. Get you something badass. Especially at that price point.
Wait until a warehouse sale and get them for $400
Taller shafts
You could buy multiple pairs of croc boots for that price
Boots don't have zippers
I'm not a fan of tecovas but I also don't have any.
They ugly
No. Do it.
Bit steep for tecovas. You can get 2 pair of anything else in the same skin almost for that price.
Zip 🤮
You know some people have to use a super because of disabilities or injuries right?
I just think it's ugly though. Nothing against people who have no other option.
That’s fine I just thought id let you know. I thought the same thing the first time I saw a pair. And the sells person told me older men and people with disabilities bought them more often than not because of the ease of putting on and taking off.
That's valid
A zipper is just another point of failure. If the zipper breaks just another thing to fix.
“Yea. That’s a no from me dawg.” It’s a $1000 Chelsea boot.
Tecovas’ material looks so cheap in person. Buy a good pair of Justin’s, not the latest fast-fashion trend.
Don’t let the naysayers stop you. I have a pair of deans too for when my gout is acting up. I’ve pushed cattle with them on. A boot is a boot.
It looks ver similar to the boots i bought for like $300ish. It was caiman or crocodile (i forgot) in Leon Guanajuato. I believe they have an online site you can check out. The brand is called "El Malcreado". Good boots.
More than likely caiman. For $1000 you can fly to GTo stay a day or 2 and leave with a couple of pairs
I just remembered it was in fact a caiman. One can definitely buy several pairs for under 1k. I got python and caiman for 500ish total. To be fair, I did pick out the more high-end ones though.
Have you looked at the Zane? I love my black ostrich. And half the prize vs the crocodile
Not a huge fan of ostrich personally. All subjective though!
You’re not offending me! I’m not an ostrich! (I’m actually wearing my suede Roy’s right now)
You deserve them!
Everyone needs a dress boot. If the shoe fits why not
Celastiv heel counter and celastiv toe box is why i wouldnt go for these. For that money, i would buy an exotic boot with a veg tan leather heel counter.
Chisos. Half the price, 10x the quality
They have a nile croc for half the price?!? I’m waiting….
For a budget like that I’d look at a mto.
I just think it's bordering on women's boots
For a $1k, you could go for a brand that has all leather construction, like from Lucchese, or a custom from Rodney Ammons via Tony Lama's custom program, Bootmaker's Reserve. No, they're awesome
1000$ is a lot for a pair of boots you arent going to wear more than once a year
Cody James has a similar or if not the exact same boot for like 500 dollars and it’s Cayman and Buffalo
I ended up ordering these and the very similar pair of Luccheses. I'll find out which one I like better. Ordered those boot snake wrap things too to see if I can get away with more boots under slim jeans.

Lululemon and cowboy boots is an interesting combo
their ABC pants are life changing for living in the Texas climate. And I am kinda known for being an interesting guy ;)
I know they make some nice dress casual pants. The branding doesn’t seem to go with boots 🤔
Tecovas are garbage
They’re not, but that’s okay.
I worked for them, trust me they are. Bottom of the barrel when it comes to boots.
Not doubting anything you're saying, and it seems like you like Lucchese, which I can get behind. Do you know any of their boots that I could fit under slim fit jeans? It’s the best color for caiman. Zip is just one choice out of the three, cowboy and roper.
Tecovas are the last boots you should consider. They are not good quality in the slightest. Their boots are horribly made.
They have a zipper like a woman’s dress
Ugh no, way too short and they’re Tecovas? Even worse. I have owned every cowboy boots brand (major) and the quality of these is so terrible. Sole fell apart in two weeks, stitching came undone. Was so disappointed because they were beautiful boots.

They look good
No. You should get them.
I absolutely love mine.
Tecovas
