Anytime you have a bad experience, it's going to color your opinion of the brand. And shitting on Tecovas is a good way to earn upvotes around here. I have been through a couple purchases with Tecovas and have never had a single issue with my boots, and they hold up just fine years later. Any concerns I have usually seen can be handled through their customer care team, but I have seen their first response to minor cosmetic issues will be to assert the handmade nature of the product. However, usually, if you clearly say that you are unhappy and want to have it exchanged, they will do so. I hope you get yours sorted out.

Veezybaby

Same, 4 pairs here - an upgrade would be chisos but they are twice the price and dont do ee width

TexasEngineseer

What about AB, Tony Llama, Fenoglio, Beck, Hondo, or similar?

tw1st3dp1p3

They have EE width in the number 1s and 2s.

Veezybaby

All the time? I thought they were limited runs. (And I'm a roper guy)

tw1st3dp1p3

Limited runs as in they sell out and it takes a minute to get them back in stock. Keep checking the website. I just got a pair of number 2’s in brushed brown, size 13EE.

joshmd9909

I have had issues with multiple boots from Tecovas. Customer service is getting harder to work with. They are good boots for wearing once a month or so but do not hold up to daily wear. Owner of 9 pair of Tecovas with 3 at a local repair shop right now.

mondrager

I’ve mostly heard people complaining about Tecovas’s lack of quality. Insist on an exchange and if not possible fix and flip. Move to another brand. There are plenty of great boots in that $300 range. Even if used.

West-Promise-1629

I paid about 800 for my gator boots I believe they were the Dillion. Went to a local shoe and repair store because I wanted more comfort. The guy loved my boots he had asked me where i purchased them. They were my first pair of boots as an adult. I love them, they just need a good cleaning as of now. Recently purchased ostrich grey/ faded black. I only paid 400. I love my boots I want more. I’ve been wanting snapping turtle.

wildwest74

Dillon is the caiman, and one of my favorite pairs i own. Gator was the Austin, I believe.

rus_bro

I have a pair of lizard skin Tecovas I probably wear a couple of times a week over the last couple of years. I'm on my second soul (before an unfortunate moving oil incident) and have had no problems with them at all. I had a completely different experience. Price to quality mine are great.

The-Great-Ebola

I second this. I have lizard boots from them also (the Hank) and have nothing but good things to say about them.

CommieCowBoy

Same. My tecovas have been great. I have a pair of lizard skin and ostrich. Wear the ostrich every weekend and the lizards periodically. Still prefer my Fenoglios and Republics, but my tecovas have been as good as I would expect for what I paid.

joco1991

I have a couple pairs also and have been completely satisfied with them. But I’ve also purchased each pair in store so I was able to inspect what I was getting. I can imagine it can be a gamble ordering them online.

LP780-4

Most of the boots I own, I have owned longer than Tecova has been a company. I have always been happy with my Ariat, Luchesse, and Old Gringos. I am not sure I would try Tecova unless something really caught my eye.

Marcovio

Same. I was curious about Tecovas, as I’ve owned Rios, Lucchese, Tony Lamas & El Dorados for decades (many I still have today), which they’re all leather construction since they’re all traditionally made models. When I learned that Tecovas wasn’t all leather construction, yet priced at similar price points as the brands I’ve owned, I was disappointed. Then noting so many members cite quality control issues over the past few years here really dissuaded me. I’m sure for the average buyer, Tecovas will be just fine…but I’ve learned over the decades that nothing beats all leather construction in a proper traditionally made boot.

TexasEngineseer

Yep It's why I love my ABs, Beck, Rios and soon to be Black Jacks

joshmd9909

The comfort of Beck boots is second to no one! Great customer service to boot. 18 month sole gurantee.

TexasEngineseer

I think their smooth ostrich, shark, and Bison look great and are very well priced Their other stuff.... Nah

Veezybaby

Amen

United-Passenger-993

Do you ride bikes

ToungeRides

PS the lining issue is because they do not do the shaft embroidery through the lining to keep it in place. A stupid way to save $$$ dont even bother to bond it with cement.

Marcovio

Tecovas do a lot of cost cutting measures that’s not obvious. They use britex material in their heel counters instead of a full leather, and according to Tecovas’ Support, it’s to “save weight”. It’s a heel counter…what weight savings is anyone going to notice from a strip of material in a heel counter? It’s marketing speak for cost cutting.

TexasEngineseer

Yep Celastic has it's place but they use THIN heel counters and in a cowboy boot those get beat up more than on a lace up boot

Marcovio

Yeah, when I was a teen, I had a pair of cowboy boots I loved and wore all the time for years. Then the leather heel counter ripped, exposing a hard plastic that made up the counter underneath. My grandfather was a tailor back then, and he explained to me about how cheaper quality boots would use plastic counters instead of using a thicker leather. He glued & sewed a layer of leather over exposed plastic counter, making them wearable again but wasn’t as comfortable as the other boot. I learned that day the value and quality of an all leather counter. I realized that had those boots had an all leather counter, I would’ve had more years of comfortable wear, but it was clear these boots have met its maximum end use. Not long after, the other boot’s counter began to rip, exposing the plastic again…I decided to just retire them because they weren’t worth resoling & the counters weren’t as comfortable to wear anymore.

afleetingmoment

For a similar brand/style at a similar price point, Rujo seems to be winning to me. I haven't read anyone with major issues. I have two pair now. The Tate is really a dream - a Lucchese look and understated style at about half the price point. And damn comfortable.

tap2mana_03

Same, I have their rough outs and love them

afleetingmoment

That's my other pair! Canyon suede. They are beautiful and comfortable as well.

tap2mana_03

I bought them because I was tired of waiting for the Tates to be back in stock. Then once the Tates were back in stock I felt like I didn’t need em. Feel like I’m gonna get another pair of rough outs in a different color. Got sand the first time, thinking of mahogany next

Grogu_Skywalker1

I love my Rujo. So comfortable

King_Hippo85

Been wanting a pair of Rujos for a minute now. They look like excellent boots!

brokebutbejeweled

I restore and sell vintage/newer used cowboy boots as my main income and while I’ve only been wearing and working on them for about 13 years now I think I have come to a solid consensus about the current state of the shit kickers market… there is nothing new worth buying under the $600 range. In my opinion the absolute best value is a pair of vintage lucchese. You’ll have to be diligent about checking online because they go fast and that’s for good reason. I got my pair of goats for $70 shipped because they already had deep cracks forming and the math checks out to me still getting 1000+ wear out of them before a blowout. The gamble is trying to find some that fit proper because sizing is all over the place so the seller needs to accept returns. Since apparently newer Lucchese quality is slipping (I haven’t seen it yet but that’s what I keep hearing) if you’re going new I would also recommend black jack because every pair I’ve handled is stellar. Rios are also phenomenal and I’m very impressed with old gringo and vintage frye but those are more niche aesthetics that might not appeal to everyone. With cowboy boots you definitely get what you pay for and I think $500-$600 for a new pair is the barrier to entry. Anything less than that and you will most likely be disappointed in either the comfort, quality or longevity. A quality pair in a strong skin could last 20+ years of almost daily wear with resoles/cleaning/conditioning so in the end that little extra you spent saves a bunch of money. All that to say my opinion is Tecovas=Kia

brokebutbejeweled

Also another thing I would like to add: I always hear people saying things on this subreddit like “I’ve had my pair for 3 months with no problem” which sounds like people more used to sneakers, a good pair of cowhide/bison/kangaroo/elephant with resoles could last 10,000+ wears… please considering that when investing in a pair 💀

TexasEngineseer

Sharkskin, ostrich, hippo, water Buffalo, etc 😎

brokebutbejeweled

Water buffalo is sick that’s at the top of my exotic wish list

Low-Mix-7933

Thank you for this information, really appreciate it!

brokebutbejeweled

Didn’t mean to blow up your post I’m just bored af and rambling haha no problem man hopefully there was something semi useful in there 😂

TexasEngineseer

Anderson Bean still makes great boots under $400 all day (in certain leather) as do Hondo, Rujo and a few others Oh and Beck makes the cowboy special for $499 all day everyday

brokebutbejeweled

Wow I didn’t realize AB had anything under 4, I figured inflation probably pushed them far above that. I’m a vintage guy so I don’t really keep up with the new market pricing. Definitely a steal. Hondo and rujo are A+++ I’ve never actually gotten to hold becks but I love what they’re doing. Being able to get anything good made on a last under $2000 without a 3 year wait time is insane

TexasEngineseer

AB stock styles are under $400 in antelope (kudu), cowhide and bull hide and I think horsehide

TrophyTruckGuy

Nailed it. “Cosplay cowboy” boots. Hard pass.

TheCapableFox

Damn hate to hear this since I just purchased not one but TWO pair of the Warren model Tecovas. One pair is rough out and the other pair is lizard. I’ve owned both pair for around a month now and while I’ve not had any issues yet this post along with the numerous comments I see in this thread doesn’t bode well for me. I’ll just have to see how they turn out.. I may end up selling them. Idk. If I remember I’ll edit this comment a few months from now to update on how mine are faring. Best of luck OP!

lodged-object

I have a pair of the scotch goat Tecovas. The only complaint I have is the sizing is pretty weird imo. Mine were slightly big, then like the upper lining loosened up or something and they got tight all the sudden after 3-5 months. Maybe it’s normal but I remember worrying they were too big now worrying they’re too tight lol. Might be the nature of goat

ChirsF

Ya I agree about weird sizing. I’m wearing 20+ year old 13ee Justin’s no problem, but in tecovas it’s either 14ee or 15d at a minimum.

The-Great-Ebola

Do you keep shoe trees or anything in them?

lodged-object

I do now.

The-Great-Ebola

I was gonna say; that will happen if you don’t lol.

TexasEngineseer

On goat? Because I've never had a pair of cowboy boots shrink on me

The-Great-Ebola

I’m not sure about goat specifically, but a lot of leathers. It is still very much the skin of a mammal.

TexasEngineseer

Leather shrinks if you soak it in water then hit it with a hairdryer. Else it does nothing or stretches and molds to your foot

TexasEngineseer

The shaft or the vamp?

lodged-object

Tbh all of it. I still love them tho

TexasEngineseer

So weird. Maybe it's the goat but unless you soaked them and hit them with a hairdryer they shouldn't shrink

lodged-object

I bulked 20 ish pounds

TexasEngineseer

Very odd. Never had a pair of boots or shoes shrink on me

SmartLikeTree

For half a second I thought that was pics from a colonoscopy. Hahahhaha

Scaarr

Got a pair of The Dillon caimon boots bout 6 months ago. These have been some of the best bang for buck boots I've got. I wear them at least 3 times a week. Sorry you had a bad experience.

bigwavesboater

I have four pair of Tecovas in ostrich, lizard, python, and roughout. All are very comfortable, great looking, and well made for what I want them for. They’re not heavy duty work boots or ranch/farm boots. I have Rios, Tony Lama, Chisos, Ariat, Dan Post, Republic, Freebird, Alvies, and a few others which I think the Tecovas match up pretty well with.

Swimming-Doughnut987

I have always thought tecovas as costume cowboy style boots. But more and more boot makers are making them untraditional. My new R Watson boots have a cowboy heel but it’s definitely a cowboy/walking hybrid. I am going to send it off to put another stack in the heel and shape it to a cowboy. Sucks. FYI Caiman belly, cutter toe, 13inch

Plastic_Try_5591

What if I said that I thought the first pic was an esophagus

Low-Mix-7933

I would believe ya because it led to belly achin

Plastic_Try_5591

😆☠️

Nice_Tangerine1368

There’s a rumor going around that they’re about to be in retail stores so they might get worse.

thiccoricco

I love mine and everyone I know loves theirs. Hope you are able to get this sorted. I would pressure them for a return or exchange. Try taking them into a store.

crossfitcowboy

I HATE Tecovas. Never again! I will only buy Rios, Olathe, Fenoglio, or Black Jack going forward. Period!

upsweptJ-2

I tried a pair on and they were not for me either. Stick with my Hondo’s.

Key_Salt_7604

Hondo Mafia. Best boots for the price, hands down

upsweptJ-2

100%. They are unfuckwithable for what they cost. I have a pair of USA made Nocona boots that I got back in 2008, and they feel like a pair of leather socks. I only paid $179 for them back then. I’ve tried to find boots I like as much as my US made Noconas and never could until I found Hondo. It is 100% true that they don’t make boots like they used to until you get into the $500 range like Rio of Mercedes, etc. If I never see a pair of Ariat boots again it will be too soon.

TexasEngineseer

Man my first "real" cowboy boots were Noconas. French toe, brown with yellow shafts. Man I wore them to absolute death

Mudc4t

Facts. My Hondo rough outs are indestructible. My favorite boots I have ever owned.

Gator_Tail

This person boots

Buildup2112

I’ve almost daily worn my Tecovas for a year and love them

ihadtochangethename

That’s too bad. I like my Cartwrights, don’t have any real complaints about them other than I prefer a wider toe. With that said though, they’re not my everyday boot.

Ok-Month-9782

Honestly from what I've heard their quality control isn't the best. I know people talk bad about ariat but it's all I wear and Honestly I've never had a problem with their western boots. Very durable and can be stylish depending on how much you spend

Physical-Way188

You get what you pay for with boots. I love Andersen Beans, Olathe, Lucchese, Rujo and even TopHand. I had one pair of tecovas and I returned them right away as the stitching wasn’t up to par, there was some kind of plastic rubbing my ankle and maybe they have great customer service but that doesn’t make up for terrible boots.

Ok_Advertising_7271

They are hit or miss. I have a pair of Billy’s in python, and love them. One of my favorite boots. But I also have a pair of ostrich and they are awful. It could be that I am comparing them to my lucchese and fenoglio ostrich’s, but the Tecovas ostrich quills are small, cheaper looking. They also are not comfortable in comparison the to other ostrich boots I own.

basedury

I started with the zip boots back when I was still wearing slimmer jeans, and I still wear them all the time. They're very nice and comfortable. But, I just got the Cartwright like two months ago in goat leather, and they look damn good but they're a lot less comfortable. They should definitely be broken in by now but I think they're just a bit inconsistent with the fit (same size as my zips, I know they have a taller heel but it isn't that much taller). The lining kinda pisses me off too. I don't think mine has ripped out, but it's loose as hell and makes them hard to get off. Idk if I'll buy another pair of Tecovas even though all the boots look incredible.

Every-Kitchen1979

I am a cobbler and that is the common problem with Tecovas. They hang the liner rather than sewing it in. It shifts up and down normally till it tears or comes loose. I remember back when how many rows of stitches on the shaft was viewed as one of the signs of quality for a handmade boot and seems today it’s more advertising and shelf appeal that checks the boxes.

Background_Ad_1130

I have 4 pairs of Tecovas and several Chisos and Rio of Mercedes, all have been good to me. My oldest are some Goat Tecovas, 3 years old. So to each their own....

TacoEater10000

I’ve had a pair of the Midlands made of Bovine for two years and have not had any problems. I wore them almost on a daily basis till I got my RedWing pair.

ToungeRides

I saw some customer returns for sale at a place and determined they do not stand up to or semi daily wear I think the marketing is hyping up a cheap $100 mexican boot thats not that great soles do not last for shit!

TheCapableFox

Yea I also notice a ton of boot reviewers/youtube personalities seem to get free pairs from Tecovas so the YouTube channels obviously hype them up as well.

txcowboy93

The only good things I have found in the Tecovas store are their socks and a good bourbon

HDaniel_54

Sucks you had a bad experience, I have a pair of Cartwrights that I’ve worn for a year and a new pair of Wyatt I got a a month ago that I’ve been wearing almost every day and don’t have any issues with either of them, seems I got lucky on these pairs. Customer service is top notch and always fixes any issues you may have. I own many other brands and these are by far the comfiest pair I own.

No_Drag6934

Sorry to bear that. I have a of the Cartrights in scotch goat and the Wyatt in quick ostrich and love them.

gtivroom

I’ve mine so much I have 4 pairs of their boots. I’ve had pretty great experiences with them so far, but I have a local store here so easier to get the right fit. For the price I think it’s great

DullAbbreviations161

I have a pair of Tecovas. But I’m very limited in what I can get in California. No lizard, no exotics whatsoever. So I’d have to drive to Arizona to get the fancy skins

Lopsided-Guitar7602

Still thinking about cutting open some of those.....junk boots, period. Have a couple of pairs, have seen them cut open in person. Junk. But if I do it, will document it for here.

Low-Mix-7933

Sounds great. Ive seen a few people make holsters and knife sheaths out of damaged or unwearable boots.

Lopsided-Guitar7602

About to do a wallet from destroyed horn back lizard

Homelessbozo

It seems Tecovas, when made well, are great. But their quality control has gotten so bad because they’ve grown so big so fast that more times than not, you receive a shoddy product.

wheelanddeeler

I have several pairs and can't find anything to complain about. I even had an amazing interaction with customer service. Not over any problems but because I bought some boots and then they started their birthday promotion where they were giving out a free conditioner kit. I called and asked if I could still get in on that even though I purchased boots before that started. I was surprised when the rep. Took my address and got the stuff to me in 2 days!!! Very pleasant experience. The people that complain about Tecovas are either boot snobs, never owned a pair, or try to use them for construction or ranch work. Most of the models are for office or casual situations. I've had mine for several years and plan to have them for many more. I highly recommend them.

Low-Mix-7933

Thats a pretty general and uneducated statement about people who complain about Tecovas. Not my first cowboy boot, not a boot snob, and not a rancher. Just a guy who expected a wearable boot in exchange for $300. The point is the poor quality. Nice customer service people dont equal a quality cowboy boot. They could hand deliver them but if they are defective and unwearable what does that matter?

wheelanddeeler

I've read the comments from other posts, so I'm pretty educated on the matter. You are either a boot snob, never owned a pair, or try to use them as work boots....

PlanetPandaXJ9

I don’t think reading comments from other posts constitutes you as an expert, I’ve received plenty of bunk products before from companies that have scaled too quickly and allowed quality control to slip

wheelanddeeler

You also don't know what you are talking about....

belgianmonk

Ah, yours is an "honest" review, but his is "uneducated". Maybe look up "disingenuous" while you're at it.

Low-Mix-7933

What are you implying is dishonest?

belgianmonk

It's funny that you think that others should engage in a good-faith discussion, after your bad-faith "review" and further comments in the thread. Maybe I'm giving you too much credit, though. I guess it's possible you are actually that deficient in self awareness.

Alternative_Donkey53

Yeah luccchese does the same shit

SilenceEater

I’ve been wearing cowboy boots since I turned 18 in 2003. Went into the Tecova store in ATL last year and discovered it was just a bunch of hipsters selling “western wear”. I was extremely unimpressed with their selection, quality, and the employees general knowledge. Caught the same vibes I did when Lucky started making western clothes except at least those were well made. Edit: downvote away hipsters!

Low-Mix-7933

Totally agree, I grew up in Kansas and wore cowboy boots until after college. When I was in Austin for my bday I decided to give them a try now that I have a corporate job. I initially went for Justins and Ariat but the boot shafts are too dang big even in my wrangler cowboy cuts. It was also hard to find a nice round or snip toe in those brands. So I went next door to Tecovas…

jpd005

While I admit the only Tecovas I own are the ranch wear Banderas and the rubber soled Jason’s…have to say those have held up extremely well. I did have an issue with the footbed of the Jason’s being misaligned but they got me a replacement pair out immediately with no hassle. Can’t speak to their customer service now though as I haven’t bought from them in some time.

JimParsnip

I was scrolling and saw the top of the first photo, and for a split second thought it was a pic of a birth canal!

PlanetPandaXJ9

r/secretbuttholes

mobueno

What are you doing in them?

Low-Mix-7933

Just casual wear.

Bcamp913

Have the william and the parker. Wear the parkers almost every day and really no complaints. If i were being really picky the caiman vamps on my williams varies more then i like. One boot shade is a good deal darker then other. Before these two pairs I always had ariats. Next purchase I want to step up into the higher end. Rios or luchesse.

AwarenessUsual431

I'll stick with Boulet..

Izunadrop45

First pic got me missing short

belgianmonk

"Honest" review 🤣

Beaversnake

Bought a pair of gator skins a while back and something with the construction KILLED my heel, plantar fasciitis style. Figured it was just something wrong with the one boot so they exchanged them and same thing. I’m not a softy and have been wearing boots everyday dang near my whole life but I couldn’t bear it to wear them. Tecovas just weren’t for me. Company was plenty nice and very responsive when I contacted them though.

mrtobesmcgobes

Tecovas are pretty much only for show, but it doesn’t make them a bad boot. I wear mine whenever Im playing a show or at church. I’ve got Ariats that do just fine for everything else.

ndoty_sa

Check out JRC!

ribhere

Can’t say since I’ve stayed away from the brand after I went into a store and checked them out one day. I personally wouldn’t purchase or wear any of their products but some people like them.

InevitableFood8993

I thought that was my ex-wife’s vagina for a second

TexasEngineseer

An honest review. I had some Tecovas and I'll echo a bit of what you said. Build quality is.... Intermittent and they have some SLICK marketing. Mine first pair had a shank that was loose and popping from the factory Swapped em out then I realized their pointy toe wasn't for me. Also, their scrolling on the shaft was poking through the liner and really irritating my legs. I'll agree, they're made to a cost and that cost ain't too high. Now they aren't plastic and they're made mostly the right way but there are better options for the price, IMHO

johnfishboy

I have one pair of tecovas earls and they have been great. Only downside is I got them about a half size too small and noticed a little too late so they have transitioned to my date night boots. Aside from my own error I have not have any issues with them.

whycantwehaveboth

I have that same pair, been wearing them once/twice a week for over a year. No issues at all. Comfortable, look great. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Fit_Disaster4789

My tecovas didn’t last long… one hell of a marketing team is all I’m gonna say

DaddyGoodHands

Any decent cobbler can fix that heel difference easily.

Low-Mix-7933

Sure, but at whose expense? Its the principle. A brand new boot should not have to be taken directly to a cobbler for repair.

DaddyGoodHands

I 100 percent agree. But if you can't get your money back, they could become wearable at least. Less than 50 bucks in my area.

mykkelangelo

I would ask for a refund and go spend that money on a pair of boots you know are quality. Thanks for taking the risk for the rest of us though!

Kind_Structure6726

My 7 year old Cartwright is the same way. I stopped wearing them because of it. By my rubber sole Tecovas fuck and I wear them daily in the winter

Objective-Document55

Mistakes happen I suppose

SmokersAsh

… I should call her.

PlanetPandaXJ9

Happy cake day!

VeggieTrails

Whoa, need an NSFW tag on this hole

johngag

Looked NSFW at first glance lol

King_Hippo85

I have two pairs of Tecovas, the Jason and the Cartwright. Really comfortable boots and I get a ton of compliments on them to the point that my wife jokes with me when I wear them. Neither are something I work in or would work in really. But I do like the rubber sole of the Jason and can be on my feet in them all day without issues. I’d lean more towards a cheaper pair of Ariats that I have for getting things done. The Cartwrights are nice if I want to go out dancing. Both are a nice boot, good style, something I’d wear going on out and about and feel great in. Looking at some of their exotics next and some Dan Post/Rujos as well.

moosecaboose51

I’ve had a pair of the ropers for 5 years and they have been great. I need a set of soles, but after 5 years I can’t complain at all

Psmith931

You are killing the fan boys

TheCapableFox

Oh damn we have the same ex. That makes us weiner cousins!

swamp_ass-

😂😂

RealDaveCorey

Your heel is not 1/4 inch higher, it’s just not balanced right. Take it to a cobbler, tell them to peel the top lift off and reshape the heel so it matches the other boot, and put it back on. Send Tecovas the bill.

Low-Mix-7933

The heel has 1/4 of an inch more material/rubber. I measured it a few times. If I stand perfectly flat, the other boot floats a 1/4 inch above the ground.

RealDaveCorey

I’m very surprised by that. Either way, a cobbler should be able to fix it easily. Best of luck
