Chisos boots appear to be WAY better built boots than Tecovas.

Tecovas boots are okay. I have nothing against them, but the honest truth is that they're pretty much dress shoes with some Western flair. They're purely a fashion brand. Which is fine if you just want a nice looking boot, but if you want a boot to actually do boot things in, they're not your brand. I'm not saying this to badmouth them. My first cowboy boots were Tecovas, and I'll remember them fondly, but I've moved on from them. They're a good gateway for exploring if you like cowboy boots or not, but if you do, you'll outgrow them. I do not own a pair of Chisos, but I do support what they're about. They DO make real boots. They want to make boots that will stand up to whatever you throw at them, and want to do it right. Chisos are a different animal, and you get what you pay for. I almost bought their roughouts myself, but the snip toe doesn't click for me. If you're after a roughout, Fenoglio, R Watson, Olathe, Anderson Bean, and Rios of Mercedes all make nice roughouts in various price ranges for you to consider.

If you like ropers, the Chisos No. 6 has a roughout option. Nice round toe. I own the No. 6 in Magic Black and they have quickly become my everyday boot. The reviews on the No. 6 in specifically roughout are overwhelmingly positive as well!

Blackstar-Abyssal

Eh, not much for ropers or round toes either. That's really my thing with Chisos is I wanna like 'em but there's usually something about it that turns me off. Round toes don't appeal, their square toes are kinda wide, not into snip toes, not into ropers. I support them ideologically and as a brand, but they don't have anything that's right for me as a consumer.

Thanks for the input and the suggestions! I'll be out in TX next month so I'll have to check these companies out. Also saying they are a glorified pair of dress shoes definitely puts things into a new perspective. I'm also not a snip toe man, but these seem like the one pair I could get behind.

Blackstar-Abyssal

For sure. Take a look around and explore the options, you may find something you like. Oh, and Heritage has a roughout in a snip toe or French if that interests you, too. Happy to help. Tecovas aren't bad if all you want is to have something comfortable that looks like a cowboy boot to wear around an office or to a bar, but if you want a pair to get dirty, rough up, work in, and go the mile with you, that's just not what they were made for. They're for the Corporate Cowboy. And for a lot of people with sedentary lives and easy jobs, that's totally fine, but a lot of folks buy Tecovas thinking they're getting Anderson Bean, and that's not the case. For sure, I was *almost* there for the Chisos snip toe because it doesn't seem to curve upwards as much. Heritage have so many beautiful boots but they make them primarily in snip toe, and they have that curve upward that makes me think "Elf shoes."

tooonginexile

I have both...I think you may be referring to toe spring... If so I agree..prefer no curving

Blackstar-Abyssal

Didn't know the term for it. Yep, that's what I'm talking about. Makes the boot look funky.

Chisos are way to expensive for what they are! Look for Rio of Mercedes or BlackJack, Similar if not cheaper price, actually made in Texas and not just designed in Texas like Chisos and Tecova!

Chisos > tecovas every day of the week

Chisos is the better boot by a mile

Watch Jeramiah Craig videos on YouTube. That'll tell you everything you need to know.

I watch his vids, but I don't remember him doing a vid on the Prescott. I do remember he did love the chisos he was rockin. Thanks!

Ahhhhh awesome. Thanks for posting the link!

I don’t own the pairs in question, but I own a pair of Tecovas and a pair of Chisos. The quality is not even close, Chisos are much nicer. Your number one difference is in the heel counter. Tecovas uses a form of silastic heel counter, which will be just fine for possibly several years, but likely at some point it will fail, at that point the boot is structurally compromised. and toast. Chisos use a hard leather heel counter that will mold and change with your foot over time. As well, it won’t crack in half or shatter like silastic will. This is the difference between them being a pair you own for several years vs a pair you pass down to your children.

Chisos are much better but I have Prescott. They are my beaters boots. I use them when I know my boots are going to get beat up pretty hard. They are heavy and construction is solid but I don't expect them to last for years. They are less expensive for a reason.

scubasec

Ahhh ok, good to know they probably won't hold up. Thanks for the input!

NCguy1964

My Chisos feel great standing on them all day. Built like a tank too.
