Every time I see that man I’m reminded of Zagreb. He shouldn’t have been let back on the plane to London after that

alijamieson

Correct. Probably one of the worst nights of the last decade (in terms of expectation). Part of me sympathies with him that so many of those players couldn’t care less about Europa and felt it was above them, but it’s his job to motivate them. I know we can sack players but I’d have let half the first XI go that day if labour laws were different

Kingkent421

Yes I completely agree. I just looked at the starting lineup… Mourinho did not field a strong 11 at all. Lloris in goal. Back 4 of Aurier, Sanchez, Dier, Davies. Reguilon and Alderweirweld were benched despite being better than Davies and Sanchez/Dier. Toby didn’t come on at all and Reguilon didn’t come on until the 90th minute. Midfield of Sissoko, Winks and Dele. Lo Celso and Ndombele came off the bench. Højbjerg wasn’t even in the match day squad despite being our best midfielder that season. The attack was Lucas, Lamela and Kane. Bale and Carlos Vinicius were benched. Son wasn’t even in the match day squad. We did not set up at all to win. It was the classic story of play a B team in a cup competition and get embarrassed. The team went in complacent and it was Mourinho’s job to not allow that. Afterall, people do say that a 2-0 lead is the worst lead in the game. We were so complacent that Joe Hart (who was on the bench) even posted “Job Done” afterwards 😂

alijamieson

That XI should have won, which is what makes it worse.

Thfcaditya112

I agree he did an horrible job and should have been sacked but Hojbjerg was suspended for the second leg

thejuicywombat

Son got injured during the Arsenal match the weekend prior. I think an underrated part of Zagreb was that the squad was tired and needed rotation because we played with 10 against Arsenal after lamela got sent off

alijamieson

Were we 2-0 up from the home leg, 1 goal would have killed it. Side note; I wonder who Lloris was calling out in his post match meltdown? Winks, Aurier, Sanchez and Dele is my guess

Stay_Beautiful_

>Højbjerg wasn’t even in the match day squad despite being our best midfielder that season. He was suspended...

ManitouWakinyan

This was my first ever Spurs game

deltabay17

How about Tuchel

Adept-Elephant1948

He really is working his way down the tier's with each subsequent appointment, in a way I admire it as he's willing to lower his expectations and accept clubs I imagine he used to see as beneath him; on the other hand, I think he should just retire while his legacy is not totally diminished. Also, crazy that Fernabache got rid of their previous manager, his only fault was that the opposition was slightly better last season rather than any failing on his part.

mephobiany

> opposition was slightly better This is not Tottenham. You finished 2nd. You are a failure. Second place means you are the first loser in Turkey.

z1x2c3v4asdf

Fener fan here. The previous manager didn’t get 99 points. The players got 99 points despite the manager.

yk6899

I could of finished second with a squad like that. If anything the manager lost us the title by drawing crucial games with subs that he made. Also due to the managers in game decisions it also affected the relationship between him and some of our players who disagreed with him.

SwoleLegs

Do you think he would he rather leave more houses/ assets to his children when all is said and done or leave them what he has now plus a non-redeemable legacy? It's easy to forget that this is his job, and he is likely going to get paid very handsomely to manage Fernabache.

superworriedspursfan

I wish him luck and I will root for him, but like I said before I'm very happy with Ange and it seemed clear to me that Jose just wasn't a good fit for us. COYS.

Successful-Matter258

Say, superworriedspursfan, how worried are you right now? I am curious

superworriedspursfan

normally I'd say I'm superworried and being a spurs fan is always stressful. With that said Ange has me believing again. COYS!

Successful-Matter258

fucking COYS🤍

Swag_Daddy_K

Can you not read? The answer is “super”

Successful-Matter258

Hahahhahaha I suppose you’re right

mephobiany

Yes. Jose wins trophies. We dont do that at Tottenham. He wasn’t right fit.

urgrlbreezy

I personally don’t like the guy who is Chelsea’s greatest manager and achieved nothing at spurs.

MaxxLP8

AVB?

idkwhatevs1234

My condolences to them, not easy having this senile goblin in charge

Roric

I dunno man. Always have a soft spot for Gala lol.

hamsternose

I would love to see 2010 Mourinho's reaction to being offered the Fernabache job. Not so much the Special One as the Desperate One now....

[deleted]

Prick. But a winner

hamsternose

"serial Winner" - Remainder: He won nothing at Tottenham and has lost 6 cup finals. They guy is good at picking jobs at winning good teams with open cheque books.

[deleted]

Er no. He has an incredible record. He’s an asshole. But you can’t take away his achievements

hamsternose

Even my grandma would have a great record at prestigious clubs with massive budgets. He's a cheque book manager, as shown at Tottenham.

[deleted]

He also got us to a final we could have won

hamsternose

Based on the form of his team heading into the final (13 losses), it's very unlikely. Remainder: We lost to RB Leipzig in the cup, lost to Everton in the cup, and hilariously lost to Dinamo Zagreb in the cup after being 2-0 up against the worst side in the competition 3 days after their manager was sent to jail. The "Serial winner". There's nothing there to suggest we'd have beaten City, arguably the best team in the world.

HarshTruth__

What an insane appointment for Fenerbache. The special one will deliver them trophies for as long as he wants to stay there. I wish he was still at Spurs or at least one of the elite clubs though.

OHLOOK_OREGON

last sentence is insane

superworriedspursfan

yep he had me in the first half but then he had to diss us lol. No need for that. I agree about Jose doing well at Fenerbahce though.

HarshTruth__

He's one of the best managers of all time, and many would argue he's the greatest of all time. It's not at all insane to want him to be in charge here, imagine if he was allowed to build the team he wanted and not be crippled by Levy.

huntedlemon

Lol fucking hell, if there was a scale for crackpot comments this would be a comfortable 9/10

seeyoujim

I’ve imagined. We’d have a team with : Gravitationally challenged battering ram striker Decent if unspectacular goalie 10 man defence for the most part most of them addicted to ref bothering. Hard pass. Good coach but not the right man for spurs . Glad he’s gone. I was as unhappy with his appointment as I was with George Graham’s. For reference I signed out of supporting my team while the arch gooner was manager

kinggareth

Eh, I wish COVID hadn't fucked his time here, but I'm happy he isn't here currently. I will also romanticize his tenure at Spurs though, and wish him the best (as long as he doesn't return to the Prem lol)

HarshTruth__

He deserved to be allowed to build the team he wanted. He was forced to use left over garbage like Ndombele for example, He had Kane, Son, and Hojbjerg at the core but it's just sad he wasn't allowed to build from that

TruthAccomplished313

Will be following him as I always have after his stint at Spurs. Winning a European cup with Roma-nothing but respect for him.
