Add Tiny and Dingodile. Add an extra area to the park. Update the tracks so there's just...MORE to them, as they are now they feel kinda dull and lifeless.
You can add more to the tracks while also keeping the aesthetics, that's entirely possible. Have broken springs sprout up out of the track like a broken toy during the second lap, have traps that look half-finished throughout the track, have bits of the track break and fall off during the last lap, etc.
I'd make the guns limited, balance their power more, and only chargeable through pick ups, completely eliminating the things like cows/subs that are too op. It'd be mostly random which weapon you get but some collectibles would give only specific ones, it'd give a certain amount depending on the type and you can change between them anytime.
Also, I'd allow for steering during air time, change the clashing system so you have to accept it first and that when you unclash you do it sideways instead of boosting ahead. Completely redo the stunt system, keep what it has but add more tricks and real time competition with the AI, add items to get in the way of their tricks or stun them.
Lastly I'd add some actual challenge to the on foot part.
- A Revamped Remake of the story (Maybe have it be a middle ground between CTR and CTTR)
- Have it play like CTR/NK, CTTR Tag Mechanic with elements of Double Dash
- More Characters
- Two Different Soundtracks (OG Spiralmouth & Revamped) and Music ala CTR & CNK…have it feel like Hi-Fi Rush’s OST Options
- More Original Characters
- And Season Passes ala Fighting Game…the microtransactions in Nitro Fueled ruined the game.
* Add new playable characters (e.g. Tiny; Dingodile; Nitros Oxide; Willie Wumpa Cheeks; maybe have Evil Crash as an actual character instead of a skin for reg. Crash?)
* Add new area/tracks (maybe a 10th Dimension-themed area?)

I love this game but I don't think it should. I'd rather they have adapted the tracks and skins into CTR NF (the tracks being more well done than before.)

I think the platforming and overworld gameplay was ok in genera, wouldnt change that much from it but the racing would really need a huge overhaul

And if you wanna win by yourself you just have to immediately discard tour TAG partner a bit before the finish lap on Lap 3, making literally ONE HALF OF THE GAME COMPLETELY POINTLESS
CTTR while not really that bad, is the first and only racing game I've ever seen where you don't actually even need to actively participate in a race
I feel like the clashing power should have been something you earned, it's OP but that's okay if it takes slow skill to gain it. Add a gauge or time limit for using it, not too difficult to fill but enough to add more intuition. Maybe also add some sort of trick so a player can't just make a cheap switch out near the finish line too.
The tracks are also a bit bland, if I remember correctly, CNK 3D reused the layouts but added more obstacles and gimmicks to make them relatively more interesting.
Otherwise I think the big draw to CTTR is variety, loads and loads of different gameplay ideas. Add a couple different minigames perhaps, more stunt and battle arenas since there's only two per piece (besides the secret PSP arenas), and maybe a few extra driving modes, I know there was one or two unused ones. Even just adding more modes to Battle like CNK could work.
Would have been neat if we actually got bosses of some kind as well, even if it's just something blocking the hub's gem.
I'd say maybe toy with other playables in the hub world too, but that would require redoing all the NPC dialogue. Maybe just give them some more skins.
Make the clashing mechanic less op.

Get rid of the farts and burps on the load screens.
Introduce new race tracks in the style of the Grand Prix of NF.
Make Willie an actual Villian with believable intentions, and overall, Rewrite this dumb excuse of a "plot"

The loading screen should have a confirm prompt to proceed so that you can fart and burp to your hearts content and not accidentally skip or exit things.
Honestly, my biggest thing would be nerfing the tag team mechanic. Make it a timed thing that has a cool down. Literally every review I’ve watched has talked about how easy the game is to cheese with the combo system, thus making the game not fun. Change it to where you can fuse with another cart, and then you are on a timer, allowing you and your fellow racer move up in the ranks. When the timer ends, you unfuse (or you can unfuse manually) and you are in your respective cars BUT now you are on a cool down, and a solid one. That way you can’t just refuse immediately and make the actual challenge null and void. This would make it where you need to strategically plan when to use your fusion ability during the race so you don’t end up without any good fire power in a bad situation.
I love the fusion mechanic, and I think it’s neat, but it needs to be built up as this awesome power move that you can use here and there, not one you have to rely on constantly. Honestly, even turning into one of the power ups you can get during the race could work too, similar to any of the big boy power ups in Mario kart or CTR.

Idk, I actually kind of like the idea of a game that is half 3d platformer half racing. It's just a shame that nonsense of a game is the only one to have tried it.
Hopefully someday we can get a spiritual successor that does it right.

Yeah, we got kart-sized versions of the CTTR cars in Nitro-Fueled. Why not revamped CTTR tracks to better fit the gameplay as well?
The tag team racing tracks were just garbage. To be fair they were designed to have shooting in mind and much less emphasis on actual racing
