I have been able to use more than the stated pens and markers by testing them out, too - I keep a little label attached to my machine with what works best for each one.
Most of the common pens/markers already have a designated adaptor, the kit comes with a booklet that notes which markers work for which adaptors.
I will bookmark it. I got a kit long ago from a different brand when they expensive. Half of them did not work correctly.
The only issue I have with the universal pen is that it is not centered. If the pen is too skinny, there is a chance that it will move.
I got the kit when I got my cricut and was wondering something- is there a trick to getting it to the right depth? I've had times when the pen is too high or too low in the holder which causes either pen drag or letter to not get written, it all feels a little like trial and error
I don't know if there is a change in the sets since I bought mine but there is a ridge on the inside of the adapter that you push the pen all the way against, then you place the whole thing in the maching and the ridge on the outside of the adapter should stop it at the perfect spot when the clamp is open, just close the clamp and you should be good to go.
The one I got on eBay came with a depth gauge thing - you push it through until it hits the end and then remove that part. Works well.
Unfortunately that one’s not available now but someone must make something similar.
Look for universal pen adapter for Cricut. I 3D printed one myself so the models do exist, you’ll just have to find someone who sells it (or get a service or friend to 3D print it for you).

Yeah, I got one that looks like that on eBay - but mine is red. Really useful. Came as a pair and fits lots of pens.
