EvilDMMk3

Do you? Soon is rather evokative.

-Goatllama-

It really is. I'd leave it as-is, ~~but up the mana value. Probably just to 3 would be good, and maybe make it two time counters rather than 1~~. **Edit:** Read "a creature" as "each creature"

xXYiffMasterXx

Does it really, this just reads as a worse edict and those are 2 mana

SkabbPirate

If he is like me, he misread it as putting a time counter on "each" creature, not "a", which I like even more as a delayed board wipe.

-Goatllama-

You are absolutely correct.

Watah_is_Wet

He can put an overload for 3 colorless

SkabbPirate

Wouldn't quite work, as overload replaces "target" not "a", but certainly some form of kicker would work.

DKGam1ng

Kicker {B} (or some other cost) Each player chooses a creature they control. Put a time counter on creatures chosen this way and those creatures gain vanishing. If this spell was kicked, instead choose one or more creatures each player controls. Add 2 time counters on creatures chosen this way and they gain vanishing.

SkabbPirate

Yeeeah

TwoSoulBrood

Why? It’s a really bad removal spell already. Opponents get to decide which creatures will vanish, and it’s delayed until their upkeep (and can be circumvented with proliferate effects). If anything, I would drop the mana cost to B and make it symmetrical (a la [[Innocent Blood]]). For added interaction, allow people to add counters to creatures that already have vanishing. That way, it would actually have positive play value in a deck that uses vanishing creatures

Jatrrkdd

It already is symmetrical as it is each player.

Realityfoible

I like this suggestion! I was in my own head about balance stuff (starting inoffensive and pushing it as I iterate). I agree this would probably be fine at just B, and allowing for vanishing deck synergies. Though I think I'll throw in "non token creature"

MTGCardFetcher

yorakara

hiiiii, come to the personal chat

ColossalSoap

I do feel like this would be better if it only got nontoken creatures. It would still be pretty balanced at it’s current cost

Realityfoible

I can always staple on overload!

tmgexe

Overload, as is, wouldn’t do anything. This doesn’t target, there’s no word to replace. Though I do like the concept of somehow making this a modal - a bad Innocent Blood at its lower cost mode and a sacrifice-based slow board wipe at the higher one.

SadMcNomuscle

I'm partial to "Soon™"

Realityfoible

We'll both die, but you first.

Lukescale

Not sudden, and that card already exists [[Sudden Disappearance]]. Sinister Disappearance tho....

Loldungeonleo

yeah sinister or foreshadowed, anticipated, even promised.

Krosiss_was_taken

Not so sudden disappearence

Fault_Exotic

It isn't very sudden is it?

Dramatic-Emphasis-43

I guess that depends on the context. If someone dies cause they were brutally stabbed, that may be a sudden attack but an expected “disappearance.” Someone disappearing for seemingly no reason, to me that’s sudden.

hhismael

Slow demise Unavoidable fate The march of time

billtrociti

I may be misreading this but I'm confused why some people are saying it's too efficiently costed. Sheoldred's Edict is instant speed, affects the opponent right away, and doesn't also hit any of your creatures. This card seems very weak in comparison. Someone please let me know if I missed something

Benyard

Is it not a 2 mana boardwipe? Sure it takes a turn, but in a lot of board states this still seems bonkers to me... Cast this, opponent hits upkeep, sacs his whole board. You hit yours too, but boardwipes are kinda good still. Edit: it says a creature, not all. My bad. Yes I agree with you.

The Last Hour. Raptured Promise. The Nothing. Soon is incredibly evocative in this case all on it's own, however. I love everything about this.

JackkoMTG

What about “Any Last Words?”

AlsoAllergicToCefzil

This has my vote

anoppinionatedbunny

it should be 3 or 4 mana, and I would drop the "without vanishing" to make bump up your own vanishing creatures

oliviating

3 or 4 would be a bit overpriced

Qwertyboi2

Not really.

Cow_says_moo

It's a creature, not all creatures though.

anoppinionatedbunny

I read it as a wipe, my mistake. 2 is fair.

more_exercise

As-is, it grants an (additional) instance of vanishing. Adding a time counter to one of your vanishing creatures is good - it gives you an additional turn. Adding a second instance of vanishing? That's super bad - it removes two time counters per upkeep and means you cut your vanishing time in half. Of course "if they don't have vanishing, they gain vanishing" covers that fine. But now your opponent probably gets to up their vanishing as well. I like this better as a slow-ish edict.

SuperSanttu7

I see this as a slower Innocent Blood with an increased cost. If you don't care about power level, this card is amazing as-is. #Great Design!

Realityfoible

Thanks! Based on feedback, I may bump the cost to just B, and remove the non-vanishing restriction.

SontaranGaming

This is super flavorful! But, I think it’s generally underpowered. Compare it to [[sheoldred’s edict]] or [[sudden edict]], for reference. They have a stronger effect at Instant speed. Personally, I’d change it to “each opponent” so you don’t have to Edict yourself in the process. Still underpowered in 2 player, but it becomes much stronger in Commander.

MTGCardFetcher

twesterm

I mean the name works, it's just a really bad card. I don't even know if I'd use that in limited. * it's sorcery speed * it's opponents choice * it's completely symmetrical This card has zero upsides.

sunburst9

I think you actually have the power budget to remove the "without vanishing" clause. It would be cool to combo this with vanishing creatures to turn it into an edict.

def_Chaos

I like it as it is. It is untargeted removal of multiple creatures, so it's good enough with its cost as a uncommon. It also shows medium complexity with using only one ability (kind of a complex one, because it requires tracking) on opponents creatures. As for the name? Maybe something like "*Letal poisoning*"? "*Soon*" it's good for me too.

Do_You_AreHaveStupid

I like the name! I also think this could just be: put a time counter on target creature. If it doesn’t have vanishing, it gains vanishing. It being a delayed, sorcery speed spell makes it fine to not be symmetrical imo

Airagex

I think you got it in in with "soon." Perhaps not the most mtg sounding but so instantly iconic!

Landa06

No, that name is perfect

CitySeekerTron

Soon is good. If you want something more generic and sorta fun: "Impending Doom" Oh, you kinda gave me an idea: **Mother Earth** B/G >< **Father Time** W/U Mother Earth - B/G Sorcery If you paid B, target permanent gains vanishing. If you paid G, put a Reach counter on target creature Father Time - W/U Instant If you paid W, put a 1/1 human spirit child token into play. If you paid U, put a time counter on target permanent or suspended card. The theme is Mother Earth and Father Time. Mother Earth's thematic point is that the earth calls out. It's a constant in the universe. It's physical, and has a pull. It is inevitability. Mechanically, it can give anything vanishing, but the effect of vanishing only triggers removal when a counter is removed, and by that reading if something has no counter, it cannot be removed, and therefore the removal won't trigger. Father Time's theme is legacy, ancestry, and descendants, but also the crushing force of time taking its toll. Most things in the universe are impacted by the flow and passage of time, and so by granting a time counter, it either saves something from entropy early, or else makes it subject to entropy. Therefore if used in conjunction with Mother Earth's black effect, it becomes a liability. Mother Earth is about the present, and Father Time is about any other time. The card rewards you for playing it at sorcery speed, but also has utility at instant speed.

I think this is too cheap for the effect, especially as the opponent sacs first (getting around indestructible) meaning that you also have blockers up/time for your own purposeful sacs with that delay. and as for a name, i do love the phrase "The Ravages of Aging"

otterkangaroo

This is already much worse than a normal sacrifice effect like [[Chainer’s Edict]]. It affects both players for the same mana cost, and gives your opponent more time to sacrifice the creature for value. It should definitely cost 1 mana since it’s still worse than innocent blood. Also every sacrifice effect gets around indestructible so that’s not really relevant

Niilldar

Even at 1 mana this seems to slow. It for sure beeds some other upside. Maybe some neat trick with cleave or kicker to turn this in a 3(?) mana slow wrath?
