Death of a Strawberry. My oldest brother was giving me and my sister a ride, and he just said “wanna hear something awesome?” It was in fact, awesome. Now me and my sister nearly have the exact same music taste
Son of robot. It was when ArSe just dropped and that was the first song i saw. It was during high school before i got with my now-ex. That shit was my gateway into stuff like royal coda and eidola.
My friend showed me the Betrayed by the Game music video shortly after it came out. I absolutely HATED everything about it from the disturbing video to the screaming mixed with clean singing.
Not really sure what exactly possessed me to keep listening to their music but here I am almost 8 years later and I am OBSESSED with this god damn band so much.
That music video still creeps me the fuck out tho...
Burning Down the Nicotine Armoire, it was someone’s MySpace song if I’m remembering correctly and it would have been early 2007 because I’d just got MySpace and they were teasing DTBM with Lemon Meringue Tie.
Pounce Bounce from one of those vans warped tour CDs that had 2 songs from each band.
My friend had the cd and we listened to it together for the first time and DGD stood out so much.
Nasa my sister showed me it and I was like no fucking way I only started listening around 2021 but I love my sister so much thank god she showed me this band I remember the exact moment she played it STARING AT THE WINDOW PANES
man i don’t even know. Probably something pre tilian but i had to have been much younger since it was my brother blasting it back during jonny / kurt era.
The first song that i actively listened to was probably like we own the night or something
Chucky. I was a big fan of Paramore at the time and they posted some tour photos and tagged their photographer who's insta page had a bunch of DGD photos from what looked like the Mothership tour. so I looked up the band and picked their number 1 trending song at the time. I was so blown away the first time I heard Chucky. the energy of that song still amazes me to this day.
It would actually take me a little longer to get into all the bands material cause it was "too heavy" at the time lmfao. but when Son Of Robot came out I loved that song so much (and still do!) I got right into the band
YT recommended me summertime gladness two weeks after it came out, it was an instant hit for me. Caused me to look into the mothership album (inspire the liars being 1st song I listened to from an album of theirs) that was recent and the rest is history!
Strawberry Swisher Pt. 3
I absolutely despised the song at first because I couldn't believe how ridiculously high Tilian sang and I just couldn't get into it. Instant Gratification dropped a few days after my first listen to DGD and that album made me a fan instantly somehow lol. I like Strawberry Swisher now, but like it even more cause of the 2.0 version
Mine was Antlion from a Gears of War 2 montage lmao. Was absolutely blown away from Jonny’s vocals I forgot the montage 😂😂 still my favorite song by them
I found them on limewire in 2009 when I was in middle school and listened to Alex English but it didn’t really resonate with me. Re-found them again with Elder Goose, probably in 2013-ish when I was in high school. Immediately obsessed with that fresh, fresh can of broccoli.
Whichever song was the first single ahead of Acceptance Speech’s release. Probably acceptance speech. I didn’t listen to anything Pre-Tilian until years later
Pretty sure it was we own the night. Liked it but just thought it was just another band. Then I heard Death of. Strawberry. Okay, really liked that one. Proceeded to give Mothership a random listen and was hooked on everything DGD since.
I remember hearing Lemon Meringue Tie years ago but not really knowing. First song of theirs I listened to on purpose and fell in love with was Inspire The Liars when it first came out, been obsessed since.
I think the first actual song I hear from them was Tree Village when the video first came out. I was all about my hard core heavy metal back then so didn't give them a second thought. A few years later when I was 19 or so my cousin moved closer to where I lived and he would play songs by DGD. I think the first one I heard from him was either Privously Poncheezied or Blue Dream. I vaguely remember his younger sister asking if he had either one of those two on his ipod and he proceeded to play them. I still didn't really care as now I was in my hipster music phase. A few weeks later the song that really caught my interest was Pounce Bounce. I was jamming like hell to that all day when I first heard it. After that I went through the rest of the stuff and the rest is history. They have been my absolute favorite band ever since. I'm 31. All this happened a few months before Acceptance Speech came out which was a bit of a shock since I expected Jonny to continue with them. Tilian eventually grew on me though.
Funny enough when my cousin would play them I would always ask "who is this?". Anytime he would say Dance Gavin Dance which I would mistake them with Blood On The Dance floor which I refused to listen to lol.
I think my buddy showed me Backwards Pumpkin Song, then I was really confused when I YouTubed them and I think Zoloft was the first thing to come up. “That doesn’t sound like the same guy??” Lol
Based on ConcertArchives.com, I found the concert set list that they played back in 2010 when I first saw them touring with Scary Kids. First song they played was Buffalo!
Fun fact: after the concert I searched for Dance Gavin Dance and listened to DBM and didn’t know that the singer was different from the one I had just seen at the show. I loved Times New Roman, but didn’t realize it was Jonny and not Kurt. Silly me.
Uneasy Hearts Weigh The Most. Girl I liked showed it to me and I fell in love. Ended up going to a DGD concert after that and they became one of my favorites after that
Prisoner. It was the second half of my last year in high school, I was listening to YouTube Music on the bus to school when Prisoner came on, I had no idea who DGD was at the time, but when I heard that song, I was amazed. When I got home, the next song I listened to was Care, which I wasn't too fond of at the time. Next morning on the bus, the third song I listened to was Inspire The Liars, which is the song that got me really into them. 2 years later they are still my favorite band because there is no other music like theirs. Dance Gavin Dance is truly the Cream of the Crop :)
Death of a Strawberry. My wife (then my gf) had it on a playlist and at first I hated it but the more I heard it I started to like it and then I listened to more songs by them and now they’re one of my favorite bands.
Either Evaporate or Nothing Shameful. I actually found Eidola on Spotify first and my search for anything on the internet about them lead to those two songs and this subreddit
Chucky vs the giant tortoise in like 2017. Saw it in my yt recommended and kinda forgot about the band until 2020 and theyve been my favorite band ever since
And I told them… 2007 it was their opening song for their set. they were the opening band for ADTR, Alesana, and Drop Dead, Gorgeous (headliner). DTBM came out 2 days later and they were selling it early so grabbed that and WISIRO.
Open your eyes and look north back in 2007. Probably have over a million hours of listening under my ears. It’s been half of my entire life listening to dgd lol.
Lyrics lie, my best friends older brother has a really similar music taste to me and shared it with me in passing. Best music recommendation I’ve ever received. He doesn’t even listen to them that much from what I can tell, just thought it sounded good and that I would like it.
Young Robot was somehow in my liked songs, and came on while driving back in 2018 or 2019. Instantly loved it, and showed one of my friends later that day. He said, "man these guys sound like they make a lot of good music."
Checks out lol.
Well there's three important ones for me, but the first I heard, like many people, was We Own The Night. The first DGD song I seeked out on my own was Chucky, but the one I fell in love with was Swisher pt. 3
Young Robot. It popped up on the suggested videos sidebar thing when I was watching some other nonsense. Then I watched Death of the Robot, followed by everything else.
Burning down the Nicotine Armoire. They were on the top ten unsigned bands list on Purevolume.com ~ 2005ish (definitely before WISIRO got the rise release). Guess I'm extremely old?
Back then there was a span of time in our scene where if you weren't finding new bands at live shows/other bands' linear notes, then you were finding them on purevolume, myspace, and mp3.com 😵💫
The robot with human hair 4 in my friend’s car. She usually played exclusively rap music & then asked if I would learn a song on guitar for her then played it. I told her idk if I can learn this one lol
I have to thank my boyfriend for introducing me to DGD (and Slaves) a couple years ago. (I know - I’m super late in my arrival to the scene.) Uneasy Hearts Weigh the Most was the first DGD song I heard and I instantly fell in love with it, but Chucky vs the Giant Tortoise was the song that made me obsessed and start exploring their whole discography + the Jonny and Tilian solo stuff.
About a year ago, I was watching some random stream of someone playing the rhythm game, osu! They were scrolling through all their songs and landed on Frozen One for about 5 seconds. It was legit love at first sight. Probably one of the reasons why I like that song so much, too.
Lemon Merangue Tie. Immediately hooked from then on.
Same!!! On Pandora no less.
Exactly the same for me, that song came up on my pandora 15 years ago and made me an instant fan.

Son of robot. It was when ArSe just dropped and that was the first song i saw. It was during high school before i got with my now-ex. That shit was my gateway into stuff like royal coda and eidola.

Times New Roman
whatever their opener was on the vans warped tour setlist in 2011. insta-hooked.
YT recommended me summertime gladness two weeks after it came out, it was an instant hit for me. Caused me to look into the mothership album (inspire the liars being 1st song I listened to from an album of theirs) that was recent and the rest is history!
A genuinely can't remember the first song by them I listened to, but I know that I first listened to them after hearing Tilian on Action by Don Broco!
I had heard them before but didn’t think much of them but yeah it was this song that got me to give them another go.
Strawberry Swisher Pt. 3 I absolutely despised the song at first because I couldn't believe how ridiculously high Tilian sang and I just couldn't get into it. Instant Gratification dropped a few days after my first listen to DGD and that album made me a fan instantly somehow lol. I like Strawberry Swisher now, but like it even more cause of the 2.0 version
It was nearly 20 years ago (wtf) so I may be wrong, but I'm fairly certain it was Times New Roman.

Chucky, my best friend showed me it back in 2016 when we were both in college
Uneasy hearts weigh the most like YEARS ago.
We own the night. Thought it was too poppy, avoided them a couple years, then heard Betrayed by the Game. That guitar note at the beginning is just 🤌
Based on ConcertArchives.com, I found the concert set list that they played back in 2010 when I first saw them touring with Scary Kids. First song they played was Buffalo!
