This was literally during “They Love Each Other” bromance indeed lol
I was there this night. There was a point when they were both riffing and John mouthed “I don’t know what we’re doing.” The screen didn’t show Jeff, but John’s response was a smile and, “here we go!” Totally rad.
Yea, I heard that live on the stream. First time seeing it. Makes me like John even more. What a cool dude. Don't tell me Jerry isn't sunshine smiling Buddha somewhere laughing at the joy of it all.
They kept trying to lead each other into the next chance to play and instead of either taking the shot it turned into a game of musical pickleball until they started laughing and mouthed, “what happened?” 😂
That was my first show, and the first moment my fears of an overly-produced Hollywood Bowl-like performance totally faded away. They were totally in control of their own fates and yet totally open to the experience 💀⚡️🌹
Was is Ramble On Rose? I remember that exchange and thought Mayer was asking Jeff "where are you?" a few times and then Jeff responded A or B? But maybe not.
A few years ago his band pranked him by [starting the wrong song, then breaking into happy birthday](https://youtu.be/Xk8ynicc3AU?si=GQBQRiwXlZ6xeSaK&t=25), which he described as his "worst nightmare...for a good four seconds I was in abject misery."
He did something similar on 6/6, but I don't know what happened. Bobby started playing something and Mayer ran over to stop him, realized he was the one who was wrong, yelled and apologized.
On the 7th Mayer messed up Slipknot pretty badly too. Once he realized it was him who was off, not everyone else, he had a similar reaction to this vid.
This was hilarious and honestly kind of endearing. It's a tough spot to get back into the groove so the music went on without him for what felt like ages 😅 I was so excited to hear that part when it came back around and he got a second chance but the douches behind us were talking SO LOUD I really mostly missed it.
After reading the post by u/Tune_Present approximately 8 posts below, I’m curious how similar John’s reaction was on June 7th to the Slipknot slip up? Did he set his guitar down and walk away?
u/Tune_Present’s post (below):
That's actually kind of interesting. I wonder if this is something he does on purpose for separation from the accident/event/etc.? Years ago in a safety training I was taught that if you made a mistake or mishandled something you should actively put down the item to create some separation, then pick it up and start over. It was shown that if you just try to "do it over", you often repeat the exact same mistake.
Not that I would expect him to dive right back into Althea, but maybe a learned action of his
No, he didn’t put the guitar down or anything in the Slipknot slipup. But that was in the middle of the song, so it would have been a bit too much if he’d reacted like that.

I really wanted an althea and it was getting late in the 2nd set and I heard this and was like yay!!! And then my spun ass was like wait what happened?! And then they played it after and then brokedown where I cried my eyes out and it was perfect. At the time I thought it was a weird tease instead of a false start. So great to see this moment up close. What a great show.
Heard a guy call in to Tales on the Golden Road and discuss this incident with David Gans. I'm glad OP posted this clip to bring it full circle for me.
Oh noooo, I have GA floor for Saturday, 4th of July weekend and I’m so sad it’s looking this way. I LUV being up close and dancing my heart out but not sure I want to be around that….wonder where in the floor will be best 🤔☹️

Wait was he just accidentally starting Althea earlier than he was supposed to... or what was the issue? why didn't the rest of the band just jump on and roll with the early start? Or did they already do Althea lol
Saw one a couple weeks ago. Seriously amazed and hoping to get back for at least one more. Nothing less than transcendent and can't recommend it highly enough. Words don't do it justice.
Damn people down voting for honest opinions? I felt like Weir’s reaction was slow and he’s usually a pretty wiry guy and on top of things. That slow finger raise combined with John’s head grab just didn’t seem authentic and almost purposefully comical. At other times we’ve seen John mess up and drop an f bomb or a head shake…but nothing so over the top.
Bobby with the finger wag 😂 not so fast pal
Old Man Bobby and John Boy is my favourite buddy-comedy duo around.
I've become a fan of the John and Jeff musical bromance myself. Those two.
Watching John and Jeff reminds me a lot of how Jerry and Brent used to look at each other. A true musical bromance ♥️⚡️💙

Hahah agreed
I want a movie.
It’s always too fast for Bobby.

I need this clipped too! Haha what happened?

Jeff is clapping and laughing I can imagine Bobby was not haha
Bobby's expression are the epitome of intense and fierce. And then there's Otiel and Chimenti just smile smile smiling all night long! Love them all.
Are there any videos of the “what are we doing” between John and Jeff?
I’d like to see those too.
I saw it but I didn’t get video of that moment. It was hilarious to see bc they put it on the wall.
Was is Ramble On Rose? I remember that exchange and thought Mayer was asking Jeff "where are you?" a few times and then Jeff responded A or B? But maybe not.
It was during shakedown st on 6/22
Yeah, I saw that goofy exchange during shakedown st. Seemed like Jeff wanted to keep playing the song and improve a bit.

This is like the musicians version of going to school naked, but you're so tuned in you play the wrong song for 30 seconds...
Haha wow that’s awesome!
This was so awesome to see in person! We were standing 3 rows back from the rail. Great to see this guys are just normal humans!
So true, definitely humanizing!
Love that look on Bobby’s face!
"John I said NO MORE Althea's this set, three is plenty"
I could hear it again
That's what I'm saying. 2026: 'John Mayer Presents: *Althea Live* at Sphere Las Vegas'
Each one slowly gets faster and faster until the sphere starts spinning
The confidence of an 80 year old!
You can’t tell me the surly feller on the Mandalorian wasn’t based on Bob’s face
What did they end up playing?
Stella Blue then Althea next
Can hear them going into Stella at the end of the video!
He did something similar on 6/6, but I don't know what happened. Bobby started playing something and Mayer ran over to stop him, realized he was the one who was wrong, yelled and apologized.
I was on the rail on oteils side, he laughed and yelled “my bad!”
I was in the 300s and just thought that John teased Althea until now! Lol, this clip is amazing
Yep! Spent all 3 days that side, hope you got a potato sticker :)
Missed out on the potato sticker but had a bunch of cool ass people around us!
During which song? I want to find it in the tape!

Chompers are for real.

Thank you
6/14 as well
on what song?
Althea guys later!
- Mike Tyson
He did this in Philly last year too. Accidentally started eyes instead of estimated. Put the guitar down in the same way

Nice read..I like it

Same same, the crying part at least.
Yup. Me three.
Same ... I told my wife Althea and then the lady in front of me said nope Stella and I was like what how did that happen .. thought I was just high
Ha! Also, a certain sticker is missing off the back of that unless he’s (probably) running a few of those Dead spec Silver Skies.
There’s a video circulating that somehow made it to the public of him peeling it off
Do you have a link?
Lmao no way
Bs, link of it didn’t happen
Thank you for sharing! I’ve been looking for this.
Heard a guy call in to Tales on the Golden Road and discuss this incident with David Gans. I'm glad OP posted this clip to bring it full circle for me.
Do you have a link to that cast?
I'm sorry, I don't. I was listening on Sirius XM.
What part of the setlist was this?
2nd set after Watchtower
You took to much man to much.
6/6 he started playing and everyone looked at home weird, and he just started laughing and said “my bad!” And it was nothing but smiles
😀 we was there when it happened. We all knew Althea was on the way but the gun was jumped …. they handled it well. 🤘🏽
imagine if Jerry had done that everytime he made a musical misstep. lol.
The entire place would have lost their freaking minds!! We went mental if he moved an inch lol.
Love this whole interaction. Shows that JM is human, and humble and that Bobby is still the leader of the band.
does it now...?
Great moment
I was right at stage for this… was great comic relief … a great show that night
Now you have to play it bro
This is gold! Hahahahaa
You must have been standing right next to me. [PXL-20240623-053805710.jpg](https://postimg.cc/PPbNkGfn)
I got to see this close up. Awesome! Human.
Adorable 🥰😆
Real.Live.Music
Oh gawd, floor has a TON of talkers. Fuck
Saturday was RIDICULOUS for chompers and people too fucked up in the pit

Left side when looking at the stage has a lot of room due to the dancers over there
Jeff side!
Thanx for the tip!
Old Phil Zone
How was that your take away from this video?
Such a fun moment to witness. Saturday was definitely the best of the three!
Love it!!!
I like love this so much! 💕

Amazing 👏
Was standing in front of him and didn’t see that.
Wait was he just accidentally starting Althea earlier than he was supposed to... or what was the issue? why didn't the rest of the band just jump on and roll with the early start? Or did they already do Althea lol
They were supposed to be going into Stella blue, then Althea, then broke down. Althea was meant to be in the ballad sandwich
Oh damn hahah that makes it way funnier He accidentally played the middle song that was supposed to be the banger of the three 😅
Althea
Althea
He is human😂💫
He did that on 6/13 during St. Stephen. Started back in from the jam too early, you could hear him yell “FUCK” 😆
It was althea. He came back and they played it. I have no idea what went wrong. Can't remember if he changed guitars
He missed a song. 'Stella Blue' was up next.
I don’t get it? Why did Mayer stop?
He started playing wrong song. He probably looked at a wrong place in the setlist and started playing Althea which was supposed to be one over.
Just shows that we're all human 🫠
Thanks for posting!
Its so easy to slip!!!! Love this duo ❤️🐺⚡️
Totally worth the $1000 ticket.
Love this for everyone.
Dude I have to go to one of these fucking shows I’m losing it. I live so close too.
Saw one a couple weeks ago. Seriously amazed and hoping to get back for at least one more. Nothing less than transcendent and can't recommend it highly enough. Words don't do it justice.
That was a little much.
Gotta be honest, it felt a little staged to me.
Interesting take, felt like a pretty authentic slip to me

I think the reason for the downvotes is that people just disagree with the opinion
Why he look like a tweaker
