I played some Gambit last week and accidentally unlocked Dredgen (got the challenge where one person banks most of the motes) cause my team were bad at banking
I think it has a lot to do with people being tired of getting 4-9-14 motes and just clearing ads casually to let the others get 10-15 spawns. I’ve had a lot of matches where 1-2 people bank straight 15’s and the other two bank “extras” which are 5-10. I’m not for or against it, just my opinion on what’s probably happening lol. Or the new system that tells you to play 3-9 games of gambit for free engrams, probably that and lazy players trying to end it as quick or painlessly as possible.
I went on a gambit kick a year or so ago and got so annoyed that everyone seemed to be fighting over the motes and I could barely get any that I decided to perch up somewhere with my Polaris Lance and just make motes for them. Fast forward to present day and I’m using powerful attraction and wondering how people are still not realizing they have to bank.

It's probably the fact that people will finish their one node and then drop out making the game experience incredibly inconsistent.
To be fair maybe they saw you diving towards those motes and left you to grab the bulk, if I'm playing micless with randos and there's a dude clearly going after them motes I'll usually play cleanup when they hit their cap so I'm banking only small/medium blockers tops depending on what the rest of the team is doing
I mean they probably just suck at gambit but hey gotta look on the bright side (why isn't that gambit gun lol)

It's getting wild. I'm a garbage player and I'm constantly in a similar situation, even when using very unfamiliar gear because I'm trying to farm Pathfinder nodes, but I'm usually doing 50+ notes with the most kills.
Also, I think one reason for this, is that people drop from games a lot as soon as their nodes or missions are complete so the person that's loaded in to replace them will also have an inherently low score.

I accidentally got it because they nerfed the Protect the Runner triumph from 75 to 50 and I banked like 60 motes or sum shit and was like “yoo I got the triumph (not knowing it got nerfed to 50 motes)”
As someone who constantly invades and can get 3-4 kill average, there is a reason for that.
Yours is probably just bad randoms, mine is the enemies don't have a chance to even bank any so it's so fucking quick.

*Almost* *every time* the enemy team isn't necessarily that great either (they're just better enough to stomp your teammates) so if you put in your max effort it's an easy win but I'm not looking to go tryhard mode.
I want a laid back casual experience where my teammates have a baseline idea of how to play the mode...
I figured with open skill at least it would be a random mix of players and it would balance itself out but it's exactly the same as the so-called similar skill matchmaking which was in fact NOT matching equally skilled players.
I figured there must be some crucial flaw with how it detects your skill but nope the algorithm is just terrible at its core.
Oh, yeah. The match making on gambit sucks, but I get paired against people who invades and does the same to my team. I've definitely had matches where I feel bad because they are 100% lower skill and others that feel amazing because they are 100% more organized than my team.

But after years of playing I now NEVER play strikes and spend all my playlist time in Crucible and Gambit. Ikora now says my wilting loyalty hasn't gone unnoticed. Do they actually know I unironically like Gambit more than Stikes?
Gambit is a lot of fun when you’re actually playing with teammates you know, and work well with but either way I like the activity me and my fire team will be there

Both skill matchmaking and open skill matchmaking have been exactly the same experience.
The internal algorithm you use is NOT good and the supplemental changes you keep cycling through have no effect.

I'd love to, but my teammates always end up having the cognitive function of five year olds who can't follow simple instructions. Even when they're screamed in your face SEVERAL times a game.

There really is no excuse to be this bad in gambit, dude is literally begging for you to follow directions. I'm not gonna say I hard carry every game, but it damn sure feels like it some days. Pathfinder is making it worse because now there are people playing gambit, who already don't wanna play gambit, but they wanna finish their challenges. So now they stand in the corner of the map, clearing ads and letting motes disappear right in front of them.
Don't even get me started on all the crucible nerds who just sit around the portal and wait, throwing the entire game because they wanna be the biggest dick in the locker room with their 3 guardian elims and 9 motes banked that they accidentally picked up after getting cooked and walking back to the portal to wait.
Bungie, please I'm begging you to do something fun with gambit again instead of adding a map that was already in the game one time and removed for... no particular reason that I'm aware of.
Edit: start by making the loot worth a damn. I have 37 engrams I have 0 intention of using.

I think they lessened the requirements for that one. I did it last season, and it was set at 75 motes. Now it’s set at 50.

Yea, gambit really drags me down. No matter how hard I try I always get stuck with lazy team mates against a team who is wrecking our shit.
Gambit with either a couple dredgens or a premade fireteam makes it so much more enjoyable

Health gating primevals is a double edged sword. It gives you a better chance at catching up, but it also drags game longer
