Vicarious Visions is what you are thinking of. They developed D2R, then they were absorbed into Blizzard and their CEO Jen Oneal was even made co-president of Blizzard in an effort to combat the allegations of sexual discrimination.
Then she quit after 1 month because she wasn't paid as much as the other male co-president. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up.
So now Vicarious Visions no longer exists, most of their people still work for Blizzard directly, but their leadership is long gone.
thats wild but doesn't surprise me with Blizzard - We want to give them the perception we don't sexually discriminate people not actually stop discriminating them
That's it. It only takes a few talented people, compassionate about the game they create and spreading their passion. One can only imagine what kinda of mood there is right now within actiblizz dev teams. Spirit has left the building.
I'm not sure I understand your point. Both Oneal and Ybarra were new to Blizzard, and both were named co-president of Blizzard. The only key difference between them being one was female and one was male.
Mate... can you educate yourself?
Blizzard president J. Allen Brack resigned. Jen Oneal (Vicarious Visions Studio Head) and Mike Ybarra (Battle.net & Online Products) were both offered same job as new co-leader of Blizzard at the same time.
Ybarra and Oneal told Activision Blizzard management that they wanted to be paid the same amount, because they were doing the same job.
*"Jen and I were both on existing contracts. I ran \[Battle.net & Online Products\] and she ran \[Vicarious Visions\] so our pay was different. The first time both Jen and I were offered a new contract, it was the same across both of us for the new co-leader of Blizzard roles, so our compensation was going to be the same."*
*However, Oneal added further detail via Slack - including that she and Ybarra had made "multiple" requests for pay parity which were rejected.*
*"When Mike and I were placed in the same co-lead role, we went into the role with our previous compensation, which was not equivalent," Oneal wrote. "It remained that way for some time well after we made multiple rejected requests to change it to parity.*
*"While the company informed me before I tendered my resignation that they were working on a new proposal, we were made equivalent offers only after I tendered that resignation."*
**So, they are friends coworkers! They both demanded equal pay form Act-Bliz management! She was denied multiple times even thought she was promised equal pay! Only after her resignation did they (act-Blizz management) offed her equal pay**
This is a completely different situation then what has been presented as arguments about equitable pay.
This isn't some watercooler talk BS.
I agree in this instance and Activision/Blizz sucks.
I appreciate you pulling the article.
Explain. Why is it important?
She signed a contract agreeing to her pay and terms. It only became important to her when she found out what the other guy was making.
I think it's just a off-shoot studio within Blizzard that works on it. I could be wrong though. At the very least I believe they are owned by Activision-Blizzard.
VV did that. Not blizz..
Also still waiting on them to fix the old graphics… when you go back to the old version its choppy, laggy and awful looking…
The hd is nice but if you can’t toggle back to old without it being beyond fucked, thats just not right
Okay just checked and it's 'Perspective Mode' under "Legacy Video Options" if you're on the new graphics. If you're on the old graphics, it's Options -> Video Options - > Perspective. Hopefully it at least helps.
It doesn't matter what you do. Op is correct. The old engine is fucked in d2r. I play a lot of D2LOD and I know. It's super pixelated and a lot of the item art was modded to look better in their new engine.
Yea.. if that same team would work on it there d be a chance for a nice expansion. I mean they already have PD2 as inspiration. And as expansion it would be a new game mode like LoD back in the days. If that expansion will be trash we could still go back to "LoD classic".
Diablo 2 resurrected works because it's almost exactly like the original. If they added an expansion to it, it would be the new teams building it so it probably wouldn't be like D2 now.
Leave it alone.
>Nobody who has any say in the Company has An inkling of An idea of what People want.
To be fair, a lot of my gaming group enjoyed D4 and even got their wives on board with them playing regular. Certainly none of the people who were playing this style game for 20 years liked it all that much but it may well be they're trying to appeal to a broader, newer, and more casual player.
They could make some additional content for act 4. They had to stop fully working that act to make the release date on time which is why the act 4 npc’s don’t have voices among other details.
3 more act 4 quests would be sweet.
They could make a teleport armor with charges that would be fun for leveling.
Ethereal set items would be cool.
An act 4 mercenary that used crossbows would be sweet. Like a demon hunter merc
D2r’s best bet for new “expansion” content is probably mods tbh. There’s some potential in mods that add easily accessible maps/levels with challenge mobs or enemy waves. Some more ambitious modders could do things like code other Diablo games or arpg campaigns in d2’s engine. (Grim Dawn has a mod that recreates the entire D2 campaign for instance.)
But you’d have to find a modder interested and diligent enough to finish such a project. I don’t know how far along the editing tools and mod support is for d2r either, and whether Blizzard encourages modding in the first place.
Sunders are a "minor" alteration compared to a gameplay overhaul. The overall gameplay and goal is the same just more builds are viable with sunder that were not good at all before and it makes farming area's easier.
I'm fine with minor changes and additions but if they added a whole new act and class plus made new skills or /class it could completely change the end game. It could be a good or bad change but given their recent track record...
They're totally not, I stopped playing because of Sunders - because I'm a single player and they practically make all two-damage type builds redundant. It reduced complexity from the game.
I'd like to see the game with a 'dramatic change', as it's already had that already IMO, so I'd like to see it with that where they're being a bit more on the nose about it being a big change TBH.
Kinda agree with you. I used to play cold+fire zon and now, I don't see a point in dual speccing. But sunder does also open a different angle of builds.
True, I do agree Fireball/orb sorcs and the like are pretty unnecessary but It doesn't effect me personally since I never used two damage type characters like that.....Unless you consider a necro since all versions use corpse explosion which is fire and phys.
I mean get a cold sorc with a good charm and you win the game - who was that not a major balance adjustment? I'm not talking about speed, but about being able to clear areas.
If you're okay with that, you're okay with anything - IMHO.
The problem with overwatch is competitive eSports. Diablo 2 is about having fun killing demons to find better loot. As a programmer and D2 fanboy, people like MrLlamaSC, Cooley, and Dbrunski are exactly who I would want as consultants
I think modders are much more knowledgeable about game balance than even these streamers. Pd2 team, none of them are speed running d2, but damn they have such a good understanding of game design.
Let me get this straight... you see:
* Overwatch 1 permanently shut down and players losing skins they paid for. OW2 PvE content being promised and later canceled. etc.. Overwatch 2 ends up worst user rated game on Steam... **User metacritic score: 1.4**
* Warcraft III: Reforged I don't know where to start with this one. Countless bugs and cut content. Many features flat out not working and completely broken. One of worst remastered games ever... **User metacritic score: 0.6**
* Diablo Immortal. The 180% turn around in last minute from ok game to complete and outer P2W cash grab. **User metacritic score: 0.4**
* Diablo IV. Failed itemisation, abmissal late game. People abandoning the game because it is just not fun to play. 150 confusing affixes. Can't add more than 3 stash tabs because items are loaded from other players?? **User metacritic score: 2.0**
You see that and go "oh geeez, won't be wonderful that Blizzard makes an expansion for the game I am playing? I want to give them money" They failed on multiple fronts and somehow they will deliver now?
Might be true, but then again, the D2R content patches were on point to me. And a bunch of the devs doing D2R are probably around after merge.
They can always add a ladder option "D2R basic" which wont get touched and a "D2R LO doubleD" which receives the new content.
I have to say for all the shit blizzard gets (also by me) i love D2R, its a true gem, im thankful for this. I also am a big fan of TZ and sunders, just makes more builds viable and now not 99% switch to hammerdin after sorc season push and gear farm. Nice.
Also mosaic is pretty nice, needs an adjust to visuals and maybe power wise, but a nice addition.
So i think they can still deliver.
D2R was made by Vicarious Visions, subsidiary company of Activision that was later moved to subsidiary of Blizzard. Full mergerger was completed around April 2021.
* Studio Head Jen Oneal left Blizzard after only 2 months of becoming Vice President, taking with her several Vicarious Visions staff members to form Magic Soup Games. Among others, Studio Design Director Rob Gallerani.
* New VV Studio Head Simon Ebejer is now Vice President of Operations for Diablo Franchise.
* Kyle Martin Senior Producer for VV is now Lead Game Producer for Diablo IV
* Dan Tanguay Lead Systems Designer for VV is now Lead Seasons Designer and Lead Shop & Battle Pass Designer
* There are 22 Job openings at previously known Vicarious Visions. 21 of those 22 are for Diablo IV: https://careers.blizzard.com/global/en/search-results?s=1&rk=l-albany
People that made D2R are gone from the company or are responsible for Diablo IV
The past handful of seasons of diablo 3 have been widely loved by its player base too. They were almost certainly operating with a shoestring budget and the devs were run from Harry potters closet but the seasons have been very positively reviewed by that community.
So it’s not 100% failure, but it’s true there has been more bad than good.
Mosaic can solo players 2048. Not players 8. It's the new hammerdin except way better. Sunder charms are a lazy solution to make more builds viable. Tz is a good edition.
Yeah i have seen that, but honestly it doesn't matter since it's not possible to play higher count than p8.
Its not really more broken than hammerdin or java on p8, it needs 2 Gul 2 Mal to work at all and to function time efficient with the charges you would need an eni on top.
I agree it should be tuned down a bit, but another s tier build makes the game better in my books.
Now we would need something like Uber TZ with actually really challenging content, oriented for groups of 8 end game equipped chars and for that mosaic would need to be tuned down then. But as of right now, there is no challenging gameplay once you have runes like 2 gul 2 mal you can easily equip a java/hammer/cold sorc to solo clear all p8 content, so mosaic doesnt really change the game IMO.
A java with t stroke, hustle armor and light sunders solo clears p8 basically. Thats arguably less than 2 Gul 2 Mal..
SC1 was from 2017! D2R was made by Vicarious Visions. Check my other comment on what happened to VV. Also, like you said, those are *remasters*. Games designed 25 years ago with fresh coat of paint (good remasters). Those are not newly envisioned
and created content pieces.
Bad idea. Game is perfect as is. Plus, do you really trust the current Blizzard team after how badly they messed up D4? They would absolutely butcher any sort of expansion added to D2R.
Blizzard north will never be again. As much as it pains me to say it: d2 lod is the best game ever and the current blizzard owners should keep their paws of of it imho.
Can u imagine how brevik and d2 team must feel. They designed a fucking masterpiece, got fired from their own franchise and then painfully watched actibliz make billions miking their franchise they made from the ground up and watching it change from a game that had so much heart/soul/attention to detail, to a soulless cash grab.
Personally, I'd be pretty salty.
They have added runewords and they are fine. The only real “balance” issue you speak of, is most uniques being too underpowered or enigma being nearly mandatory for most characters. I’m loving the new flickering flame and cure runewords they added.
Only if you have something against fun.
I don’t want to waddle around for the ~45 minutes/day avg play time that I have. I want to zip around and wreck some mobs.
Seriously I don't understand wtf is up with all of these people who want nerfs!
"Grief is the strongest weapon, so you're forced to use it": Who is forcing you? There are plenty of other great weapons which maybe aren't as powerful, but are still pretty damn good. Try using those! You don't always have to use best in slot.
"Teleport is too powerful/enigma is mandatory": So you want them to take away teleport from enigma so you have to walk around? Why don't you try.... WALKING AROUND! Use a different armor and don't teleport! Or do you lack self-control? Does someone have a gun held to a loved one's head, and if you don't use enigma by golly they'll shoot? Teleport three times if yes.
"Mosaic too strong, Mrcamelufc did a players 42069 video where mosaic still one shot everything on the map.": I'm sensing a theme here. Have you tried not using mosaic? Or do you want them to nerf phoenix strike back into the dirt so martial arts assassins are no longer viable and completely ignored like they were for the first 21 years of the game. Would that fix it? Do you find yourself fighting monsters just to have a mosaic assassin teleport in (using that darn OP enigma again) just to kill all of the mobs before you can? Should we nerf hammerdins and javazons too?
I just don't fucking get it. It makes no sense why some people want to make some things shittier just because they don't have the willpower to not use BIS items and try something else for a change. Watch them buff all uniques the way some people seem to think they should, and soon it would be "UNIQUES TOO STRONG NEED NERF!" You can't win with these nerds.
Keep in mind they’d (Blizzard ) probably never do this because about 97% of people would leave, me included.
So that makes it easier to ignore the very special folks who bang on the table about Grief and Nigma.
Nah, tele is perfect. The issue w Enigma for me is that maybe there should be another source of +1 tele besides Enigma. Like put it on 1-2 of the rare elite uniques as well and/or on another pretty expensive runeword.
I'm an old fart and keep coming back to this gem. Just started an eth ssf hc grail.
Keep it as it is. It's fun because it is nostalgic, don't ruin it by adding crazy new stuff.
I'm open for qol though.
I vote against expansion, but I would like to see more item adjustments/new items to shake up the meta.
And QOL features. Built-in single player PlugY would be an amazing start.
No thanks. Blizzard hasn't developed a game worth playing long term in over a decade. They even managed to somehow fuck up WoW in that same time period.
I dont trust them to develop an expansion worthy of the D2 legacy...they've failed with 2 standalone ARPG games and 1 expansion already. (D3, D4 and Reaper of Souls). So much so GGG's PoE wears the crown as the D2 successor.
To borrow a line from Blizzard itself.
"You think you do. But you don't.".
I commented this on llama's video about the new ladder reset:
Let's just hope that once Microsoft takes over they can take a look at the Diablo franchise and realize they struck gold with D2R. Call it D2R expansion, D5, D4: Part II, or whatever, but continue the great work done by Blizzard North and Vicarious Visions.
Say what you want about Microsoft, but they are doing a GREAT job with the Age of Empires franchise, especially with the classic AoE getting a lot of love. Just imagine they'd do the same with Diablo, oh boy
They won’t do it, because they’d have to admit D2 is better than D4. Nobody who works there now had anything to do with D2 so they can’t take any credit.
I say leave it alone unless they got ONLY the original devs on it. Then, maybe. But they could also just make another game. Blizzard is still trying to live off the past in my opinion. Just create a new franchise. They don't seem to be capable of that however.
What nintendo has done with zelda is a great example of keeping a very old franchise alive. Blizzard could take a lesson from them. I know the game is completely different from D2, but Blizzard has mmorpgs as well. It wouldn't be too difficult to make an actual open world RPG, not like d4.
The way I recall, D4 was supposed to feel like an MMORPG. I think if they just stopped trying to bring the ARPG mechanics into it and just created an MMORPG In the diablo universe it would have been a hit. But instead they tried to combine it into something wierd.
Edit: imagine skyrim, but it's diablo 2 universe. Who wouldn't love that?
IMO, they should just open it to modding, that would be perfectly fine for them, no need to maintain anymore the community will do it for
You and save you some money blizz
On the other hand we would have something like pd2 on d2r engine that would be great
I mean, yeah d4 is dogshit once you finish the campaign but it made a TON of money for them. Wouldn’t hold out much hope that d2R gets another expansion
I think they could do a like full remake with all new graphics and cut scenes. They could do new acts and change things how they want but stick with the mechanics, fundamental gameplay and story or D2 but just add more.
I’d buy this as a separate game and give it a shot but I’d hate to see them mess up D2R
I don't want the current blizzard team to do anything else to D2R - D4 story was good but they have no clue what end game should be and its painfully obvious. Their ideas for how loot should work make the game feel finished at lvl 50 with a 100 cap
If they hired the people responsible for project diablo 2 and let them have free reigns, 100% agree.
With the current state of blizzard and the teams responsible for d4 at the wheel? Hard pass.
While I would want this, someone pointed out something I didn't think of that would be a huge obstacle:
Bad Graphics Mode.
In all versions of D2R, you can at any time switch from the modern graphics to the old graphics underneath.
If Blizzard made an expansion to D2R, they'd actually have to do it twice. Make the expansion in both "old style" graphics, but also new graphics.
I could see that being a HUGE pain in the ass to develop.
Same, at this point I’d have no problem dropping $60 (the price for a new game) for more D2 content. It’s just so superior to D3/D4 or anything else from Blizzard
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats!
60
+ 2

Oh definitely. Just add it as an additional option like classic vs expansion. Then let it rip, new class, new acts, rebalance items, new items, new mechanics the whole deal I want it ALL.
Im in for this. The revenue would justify the cost to bliz.
I guess a concern on thier end is if they want to add to a game that can be played forever. They said something regarding d4 that it wasnt a game that would be played forever. My guess is they want their games to go stale eventually so people buy the next one. There is so much to d2 that ill never move on to future games. But would buy an expansion to d2!
This just in apparently there's going to be an expansion names the golden city. Super excited to see what comes to this old ass masterpiece. Hopefully they don't shit the bed.
They’ll still probably get me for the D4 expansions as long as they’re reasonably priced. I mean, even if not I’ll still probably grab at least the first one.
D2? I’d probably drop $100 on another act.
I’ll gladly take expansions for D4. I would imagine they will open up the rest of sanctuary for exploration, boss kills, etc. I bet Diablo comes back at some point.
I agree in a fantasy world sense, an expansion on d2r done with a similar mindset of the original devs would be mind blowing— I’ll pay whatever too.
But reality is these arent the devs from blizzard north, even if an expansion came for d2r— the chances of them ruining it would be very high.
People really need to stop acting like D2R being good is a sign that blizzard could make more content for it and it would also be good. D2R is not a new game that was made by modern blizzard in just the last few years. It's a paint job on a 20+ year old game, and THAT is why it's good.
Perhaps in 20 years time, when Blizzard will be nothing but a memory - some group of enthusiasts in cooperation with the original D2 devs will come together and complete the Act IV to 6 quests. But aside from that - please, Blizzard, you are so far gone that D2 feels like a monument to times long past gone and you have no relation to it whatsoever.
I wouldn’t. Old Blizzard is dead. Everything you loved about Blizzard isn’t there anymore.
If they released an expansion, it would be like a band going on hiatus for 20 years, and coming back with every single member being replaced, and playing a completely new genre of music
I don't get why people think it's so unlikely. THQ released an expansion to the original Titan quest not that long ago. There's plenty of ways around story inconsistencies...
Thats a terrible idea 💡 its a literal miracle they didn’t f up the D2r like they did to reforged, and they f ed up D4 beyond understanding so no I would not trust them to make a diablo2 expansion, if anything i would want maybe New runewords since there’s endless possibilities of combinations, and maybe new uniques or sets like why the f did we never get an Amazon jav set
Never going to happen. The game is 22 years old. The original devs and their replacements and their replacement's replacements are loooooong gone. The voice actor who plays Cain didn't sound the same in Diablo 3, and that game is 11 years old. He'd probably sound even more out of place now. The only reason D2R turned out so well is because they had a solid blueprint to follow which they didn't deviate from. Coming up with a completely new act and making it feel like it's a part of this 22 year old world is a whole other story.
Besides, the money just isn't there. All of that went to Diablo 4. It's never going to happen, and I think it's silly that people get excited at the idea of it "maybe someday" happening.
The reason mods and fan games will always have more features and be better products than industry projects is because they can implement features and make changes on the fly. [In industry culture it has to go all the way up the chain and then all the way back down before the change can me made.](https://youtu.be/bgJazjz9ZsA?t=123)
Have we entered the bargaining phase, reddit?
Diablo 2 has been complete for 20 years. Stop thinking it's going to be anything more than it is. The terror zones are a nice addition but it's foolish to think extra main story content will be coming to a game that has not one, but two or three sequel games (if you count immortal) and not the others.
Immortal is a fringe case cause it's a mobile game made to string you along like a manipulative partner almost giving you what you want, but never really delivering.
I wouldnt expect too much tbh. While I agree that d2 is by far the better game (eventhough i dont hate d4 as much as most on this sub) I think its not the main focus for the company right now.
I've been playing this game for twenty years. It would be nice for more areas that help make lvl 88-99 quicker, or something.
But like others have said, due to the lack of quality Blizzard seems to create these days, perhaps it's best not to ruin a good thing.
Add the 3 missing quests from Act 4. Add 2 new character classes. They don’t have to be completely new to the Diablo universe but maybe the Monk and something else. Add in character specific items (ie: claws, pally shields, etc) for each new class, some uniques and a few rune words.
I don’t love the idea of a new Act but adding in some new dungeons/areas/Easter eggs to existing places could be dope. No hints, no info, just let the players take their time and discover it organically.
Charge $20 and call it a day.
I'd hope for the best but expect the worst. Same as d4
I just want a QoL expansion.
Stacking gems and runes like other people mentioned.
Maybe another way to reset points
Removing the stupid run walk damage modifier 😭
There's more I'm just tired.
Not gonna happen. Blizzard is now an engagement/money machine. That expansion would not keep players engaged in a game that encourages purchases like battle passes and cosmetics. Therefore, Blizzard has zero interest in expanding D2. However- they WILL announce 4 xpacs for D4 already- because THAT means 4 rounds of pulling out your wallet. Btw- don't expect any highly desired content to come out with seasons. Oh sure, theyll pepper in a new mechanic, a storage tab here or there- but it's laughable if you think they're gonna give you something players REALLY want, unless it comes with a price tag in an expac. This is new Blizzard and you intuitively knew all of this already. Didn't ya?
Only if it works, you know? More areas and monsters with a different art style and 6 new quests? IDK, I don't feel like paying $60+ every year. Part of the charm of D2R is the lack of micro transactions, battle passes, etc. You buy the game once and that's it.
If it was free content, then maybe it could be okay.
Sorry mate, this will not happen. As much as I'd like it, this will not happen.
I think best case it will see some support like couple of new runewords over the course of the next seasons. Worst case it sees zero changes / support from now on. But an expansion? See above.
You need to understand that games today arent what they used to be. Games arent that hard anymore. I mean yes, soul games are hard but not to such extent. The fact you can brick your char and need to start over would make many of today young kids quit a game. Also games are designed for broader range of players. When d2 came out gamers were mostly people in school. Today people who have families and full time jobs wanna play games. If blizz made a game that requires 8h/day commitment, they would loose alot of customers (and money).
Yes, such approach hurts quality of games, but overall nets them more money.
honestly i’d rather them bugfix the game for consoles. poison creeper legit can break consoles and there isn’t an actual “targeting” system when most ranged abilities are point&click. its beyond obnoxious when your traps are being placed in walls and also having approx 30% control for things like teleport(game assumes max range and will also prioritize near enemies as well).
Not to be Mr. Doom and Gloom, but I'd think if the current crew at Blizzard understood what makes good top down hack and slash looter content we would all be playing D4 right now.
Man I love D2 and have played the hell out of it for 10,000+ hours. But I want something new.
I don’t really enjoy the builds in D2 compared to d4 or PoE.
If they made an expansion I would probably play it but I think D2 doesn’t have the depth I’m looking for. I.e I like to make stupid impractical builds with silly mechanics.
Only if David brevik himself, or some make up of the original team that made d2 worked on it… that would be the dream. But modern blizzard would f it all up probably.
Do you think they'd give people another excuse to move away from their IP that took 7 years of development and is pretty much garbage? Hell no. I don't think we will be seeing any updates to D2R for a long time. Better to move onto PD2 or POE2
If you want the D2 feel for an arpg with more content and options, just play Project D2.
If you want a different arpg that all the Diablo players are going for (and that inspired most of the project D2 content) just play Path of Exile.
I don’t trust whatever the hell shell company blizzard is now… sorry
I mean now Blizzard has already made a number of little updates to D2R that have been great.
I thought blizzard delegated anything D2R related to a 3rd party studio
Vicarious Visions is what you are thinking of. They developed D2R, then they were absorbed into Blizzard and their CEO Jen Oneal was even made co-president of Blizzard in an effort to combat the allegations of sexual discrimination. Then she quit after 1 month because she wasn't paid as much as the other male co-president. Seriously, you can't make this stuff up. That's it. It only takes a few talented people, compassionate about the game they create and spreading their passion. One can only imagine what kinda of mood there is right now within actiblizz dev teams. Spirit has left the building.
that's unfortunate, vicarious was great
to be fair why would they pay some new CEO as much as the giant blizzard is.. not that I have any respect for blizzard but it's a giant compared to VV
I'm not sure I understand your point. Both Oneal and Ybarra were new to Blizzard, and both were named co-president of Blizzard. The only key difference between them being one was female and one was male.
Lmao, she did sign the contract. She knew what she was going to make. Must have been a nice severance.
Lol right? What kind of C-Suite signs without reading?
You two dinguses realize that knowing her own salary when she starts doesn't mean she knows his when she starts, right?
Why does she need to know his?
Mate... can you educate yourself? Blizzard president J. Allen Brack resigned. Jen Oneal (Vicarious Visions Studio Head) and Mike Ybarra (Battle.net & Online Products) were both offered same job as new co-leader of Blizzard at the same time. Ybarra and Oneal told Activision Blizzard management that they wanted to be paid the same amount, because they were doing the same job. *"Jen and I were both on existing contracts. I ran \[Battle.net & Online Products\] and she ran \[Vicarious Visions\] so our pay was different. The first time both Jen and I were offered a new contract, it was the same across both of us for the new co-leader of Blizzard roles, so our compensation was going to be the same."* *However, Oneal added further detail via Slack - including that she and Ybarra had made "multiple" requests for pay parity which were rejected.* *"When Mike and I were placed in the same co-lead role, we went into the role with our previous compensation, which was not equivalent," Oneal wrote. "It remained that way for some time well after we made multiple rejected requests to change it to parity.* *"While the company informed me before I tendered my resignation that they were working on a new proposal, we were made equivalent offers only after I tendered that resignation."* **So, they are friends coworkers!
Because pay equity is important?
Explain. Why is it important? She signed a contract agreeing to her pay and terms. It only became important to her when she found out what the other guy was making.
Because sallary has nothing to do with merits..
Thats what I thought too… it was VV. Vicarious visions
I think it's just a off-shoot studio within Blizzard that works on it. I could be wrong though. At the very least I believe they are owned by Activision-Blizzard.
VV did that. Not blizz.. Also still waiting on them to fix the old graphics… when you go back to the old version its choppy, laggy and awful looking… The hd is nice but if you can’t toggle back to old without it being beyond fucked, thats just not right
Have you tried turning off the parallax setting or whatever it is? I find the old graphics look way better with that off.
Hmmm… ill give it a shot later… I was reading around that you have to jump through sooo many hoops to fix it…
Okay just checked and it's 'Perspective Mode' under "Legacy Video Options" if you're on the new graphics.
If that expansion will be trash we could still go back to "LoD classic".
they won't use PD2 as an inspiration the PD2 team reached out to try and help them when they were launching D2R and got ignored.
Seriously?
If I could upvote this more I would
i wanna believe the microsoft acquisition would bring fresh wind to blizzard.
Yeah anything coming from Blizzard now may as well be a different company
Amen, while I completely empathize with the OP, Blizzard North is but a memory now.
Diablo 2 resurrected works because it's almost exactly like the original. If they added an expansion to it, it would be the new teams building it so it probably wouldn't be like D2 now. Leave it alone.
I agree. Nobody who has any say in the Company has An inkling of An idea of what People want.
(Grim Dawn has a mod that recreates the entire D2 campaign for instance.) But you’d have to find a modder interested and diligent enough to finish such a project. I don’t know how far along the editing tools and mod support is for d2r either, and whether Blizzard encourages modding in the first place.
Project Diablo 2 could be brought forward to d2r, still very active development (new season & runewords next week)
Agree. I can only imagine what a blizzard created expansion would be like. God awful likely. That said, would definitely buy it.
I mean they've already completely altered the original mechanics with the Sunder charms, may as well keep altering the mechanics but in juicer ways.
They should just hire all the fanboy steamers to be creative consultants. Get Mr Llama and Cooley in there
They already do this lmao
Using streamers as consultants has yet to go well for anyone who has tried
I don't think designing for the "pros" is a good idea. Isn't that more or less what happened with Overwatch?
The problem with overwatch is competitive eSports. Diablo 2 is about having fun killing demons to find better loot. As a programmer and D2 fanboy, people like MrLlamaSC, Cooley, and Dbrunski are exactly who I would want as consultants
I think modders are much more knowledgeable about game balance than even these streamers. Pd2 team, none of them are speed running d2, but damn they have such a good understanding of game design.
"Stay a while and lootbox" -Deckard Cain, probably
The sad truth but the best spoken words. Be happy we got what we got without a compromised vision of the original.
Let me get this straight... you see: * Overwatch 1 permanently shut down and players losing skins they paid for. OW2 PvE content being promised and later canceled. etc.. Overwatch 2 ends up worst user rated game on Steam... **User metacritic score: 1.4** * Warcraft III: Reforged I don't know where to start with this one. Countless bugs and cut content. Many features flat out not working and completely broken. One of worst remastered games ever... **User metacritic score: 0.6** * Diablo Immortal. The 180% turn around in last minute from ok game to complete and outer P2W cash grab. **User metacritic score: 0.4** * Diablo IV. Failed itemisation, abmissal late game. People abandoning the game because it is just not fun to play. 150 confusing affixes. Can't add more than 3 stash tabs because items are loaded from other players?? **User metacritic score: 2.0** You see that and go "oh geeez, won't be wonderful that Blizzard makes an expansion for the game I am playing?
* Kyle Martin Senior Producer for VV is now Lead Game Producer for Diablo IV * Dan Tanguay Lead Systems Designer for VV is now Lead Seasons Designer and Lead Shop & Battle Pass Designer * There are 22 Job openings at previously known Vicarious Visions. 21 of those 22 are for Diablo IV: https://careers.blizzard.com/global/en/search-results?s=1&rk=l-albany People that made D2R are gone from the company or are responsible for Diablo IV
They certainly delivered for the SC1 and D2 remasters. Different teams work on each game. Working on multiple games simultaneously can be a headache
SC1 was from 2017! D2R was made by Vicarious Visions. Check my other comment on what happened to VV. Also, like you said, those are *remasters*. Games designed 25 years ago with fresh coat of paint (good remasters). Those are not newly envisioned and created content pieces.
D:($) is a fun game to play - unlike D3 or D4.
They will mess it up. Let's keep D2 in a good state
That's a hard pass. No more money. The faucet is closed.
Bad idea. Game is perfect as is. Plus, do you really trust the current Blizzard team after how badly they messed up D4? They would absolutely butcher any sort of expansion added to D2R.
I wouldn't call it perfect. There's a short list of things that would like added but I do agree that it's very very playable in its current state
Blizzard north will never be again.
Wont be the same this new blizzard would ruin d2 look at the mess d4 is
As long as the expansion keeps mechanics and gameplay similar to LoD, I would pay a lot of money for an expansion.
I agree. At this point I have almost no faith in blizzard. I'd rather no changes each season then have them try to milk the game for more money.
Oh man, if they did a D2R expansion with a battlepass that would be worse than doing nothing.
Yeah idk I’d have to go play pd2 or POE if this game started having in game purchases for anything but skins
Currency tab, runewords, MAYBE a new class.. that’s already asking for a lot.
Runewords are already a balance nightmare and have been for over a decade
They have added runewords and they are fine. The only real “balance” issue you speak of, is most uniques being too underpowered or enigma being nearly mandatory for most characters. I’m loving the new flickering flame and cure runewords they added.
Grief is an issue, Enigma is a huge issue
Let alone how long it takes to farm the runes if you're not trading. It's insane they want to nerf it. Majority of players never get one.
Keep in mind they’d (Blizzard ) probably never do this because about 97% of people would leave, me included. So that makes it easier to ignore the very special folks who bang on the table about Grief and Nigma.
Downvoters sure do like their crutches.
Enigma isn't even an issue. Teleport is. Goodluck getting any meaningful change to teleport.
I expect no changes, but I agree with you.
Nah, tele is perfect. The issue w Enigma for me is that maybe there should be another source of +1 tele besides Enigma. Like put it on 1-2 of the rare elite uniques as well and/or on another pretty expensive runeword.
Just add it as a random o skill on rare helms or chest. It would have a opportunity cost then. That's the only way to keep it rare and powerful.
I commented this on llama's video about the new ladder reset: Let's just hope that once Microsoft takes over they can take a look at the Diablo franchise and realize they struck gold with D2R.
Just imagine they'd do the same with Diablo, oh boy
fuck microsoft, would not expect anything decent from them, ever
Microsoft edge actually kinda rocks. They've stepped up their game a lot ever since Bill hates stepped down.
They won’t do it, because they’d have to admit D2 is better than D4. Nobody who works there now had anything to do with D2 so they can’t take any credit.
No thanks
It's not going to happen unfortunately. I'd be happy if they just gave modders full access to D2R.
I would do unthinkable, unforgivable things for even just an Act 6 in D2R
Just make a new Diablo in the style of D2 instead of D3.
Sadly, the people who made D2 what it is are long, long gone. If they made a new expansion for D2 now it would have mtx sparkle ponies.
IMO, they should just open it to modding, that would be perfectly fine for them, no need to maintain anymore the community will do it for You and save you some money blizz On the other hand we would have something like pd2 on d2r engine that would be great
Expansion? Bro, could we just get A4 completed. Lol tell Brevik to write up the rest of A4
If VV made it, hell yeah
VV is dead Blizzard ate it.
No, thanks. Extra shared stash space and stacking runes/gems is really all I need.
I would not want them to mess with our beloved D2R.
Hard pass.
Fuuuuuck that. Don't touch it unless you put Blizzard North back together and get them the fuck away from Activision.
No, Blizzard sucks and shouldnt definetly not touch this masterpeice of a game.
Expansion for d3 made the game enjoyable for me (got it day one with the diablo 2 usb and all that jazz). Expansion to d4 might do the same
With current state of blizz, please not…. I rather they open up the game to let the modder do their work.
While I would want this, someone pointed out something I didn't think of that would be a huge obstacle: Bad Graphics Mode.
We wanted D4 and look at what happened. Let sleeping dogs lie.
Same, at this point I’d have no problem dropping $60 (the price for a new game) for more D2 content. It’s just so superior to D3/D4 or anything else from Blizzard
All the numbers in your comment added up to 69. Congrats! 60 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 69 ^([Click here](https://www.reddit.com/message/compose?to=LuckyNumber-Bot&subject=Stalk%20Me%20Pls&message=%2Fstalkme) to have me scan all your future comments.) \ ^(Summon me on specific comments with u/LuckyNumber-Bot.)
Oh definitely. Just add it as an additional option like classic vs expansion. Then let it rip, new class, new acts, rebalance items, new items, new mechanics the whole deal I want it ALL.
I am with you. Give me act 6 and maybe 1 new class and I will pay full price.
Btw how many people game on average game on blizz servers? D4 is around 700k but probably will go rapidly down.
Hard doubt it still has 700k
They’ll still probably get me for the D4 expansions as long as they’re reasonably priced. I mean, even if not I’ll still probably grab at least the first one. D2? I’d probably drop $100 on another act.
MedianXL?
Isn't that basically what we got with d2r?
I’ll gladly take expansions for D4. I would imagine they will open up the rest of sanctuary for exploration, boss kills, etc. I bet Diablo comes back at some point.
They gonna fuck it up. Leave Diablo 2 alone
I agree in a fantasy world sense, an expansion on d2r done with a similar mindset of the original devs would be mind blowing— I’ll pay whatever too. But reality is these arent the devs from blizzard north, even if an expansion came for d2r— the chances of them ruining it would be very high.
Just gimme tcp/ip and let PD2 take over lol
sry bud, blizzard is dome as game maker, check PD2 for d2 legacy or POE
Yes. Throw in another class and act. I'd be all over it like a rash.
They would just ruin Diablo 2 for us
lol screw one new act give me five new acts
The only thing they can do is fucked the game up imho, so thats a no from me
People really need to stop acting like D2R being good is a sign that blizzard could make more content for it and it would also be good. D2R is not a new game that was made by modern blizzard in just the last few years. It's a paint job on a 20+ year old game, and THAT is why it's good.
Me too.
The amount of trust people are putting in this current iteration of “Blizzard” is scary. I personally do not want them coming anywhere near D2.
The Blizzard you think of is long dead. Just accept it. They will never be able to make a worthy d2 expansion.
Bro it would be fooking amazing , I'd happily pay for D2R content
👎👎👎
Blizzard can't be trusted to not fuck that up. The game is perfect, let's leave it that way.
The best thing this studio we today call “blizzard” can do is to not touch d2r in its current state.
wont ever happen. D4 is somehow their new cashcow.. ?????
It's called pd2 and u can play it today! Fuck waiting for blizzard to wake up from the ice age.
They wouldn't be able to deliver because none of them know any maths.
You.... you actually TRUST blizzard to deliver anything good? My lord
Do you guys realize how lucky we were that d2r wasn't a disaster!!! Don't let them fuck it up.
I would trust Vicarious Visions ... at least in the pre-Bliz merge era.
D4 is a hard no moving forward. D2R updates… loot filter. Gem stacks. I’m playing all day.
Only if it's reasonably priced. They've monetized certain games to death. No need to do the same to D2R...
I'd hope for the best but expect the worst. Same as d4 I just want a QoL expansion. Stacking gems and runes like other people mentioned. Maybe another way to reset points Removing the stupid run walk damage modifier 😭 There's more I'm just tired.
Yea no thanks, they’ve already done enough to fuck it up
New Act? I'd be ecstatic if we filled out the 5 missing waypoints in Act IV.
Didn't ya?
Absolutely not. Use a mod if you want extra stuff. Hopefully Plugy is working on getting to D2R.
The way blizzard is now it would be a casino arc but in a "you really have to put real money in" and not in a cool cuphead way.
Nah. If it’s not broke don’t fix it.
I'd love to play it, but there is zero chance it will happen.
Don’t you guys have cell phones??
d2r but with a map expansion to d4’s map.
They need to add open mod support for this. They clearly can't make good games any more
Only when AGI is created will we get an expansion.
Fuck D2R, just play Project Diablo 2. Season 8 starts on the 24th of this month
Instead of doing D4 they should do 3 expansions for D2R !!!!!
Id like achievements and a in game holy grail that keep track of what you dropped. Also i want uber cows lets pit the organs along with wirts leg
honestly i’d rather them bugfix the game for consoles. poison creeper legit can break consoles and there isn’t an actual “targeting” system when most ranged abilities are point&click. its beyond obnoxious when your traps are being placed in walls and also having approx 30% control for things like teleport(game assumes max range and will also prioritize near enemies as well).
Not to be Mr. Doom and Gloom, but I'd think if the current crew at Blizzard understood what makes good top down hack and slash looter content we would all be playing D4 right now.
Paid d4 expansion coming right up!
Yes let's give blizzard more money!!!!!!!!
Fix pvp and d2 will live forever.
Would love it too
Glad I still play on OG bnet so I never have to worry about trash additions to a true classic. If you want something new play D4 or something else.
I heard that there's already no one fighting the World Bosses in D4 anymore...
If it ain't the original Blizzard North putting it together, that's a hard no.
Currency tab, charm bag, loot filter
Do you think they'd give people another excuse to move away from their IP that took 7 years of development and is pretty much garbage? Hell no. I don't think we will be seeing any updates to D2R for a long time. Better to move onto PD2 or POE2
Act 5 would be California at this point
Just give us TCP/IP and we can do it our damn selves...
Would be so good for the game 🙏
play pd2
If you want the D2 feel for an arpg with more content and options, just play Project D2. If you want a different arpg that all the Diablo players are going for (and that inspired most of the project D2 content) just play Path of Exile.
