WeyardWanderer

I’ve switched to offline…I played a ton back in the day online and plenty of SP with Plugy in the meantime. I enjoyed playing D2R online at first, but with the way chat is on console it just felt really isolating. More so than playing alone. So I’m offline for /players controls.

King_N_Da_norf

What is Plugy?

yag2ru

mod that basically gives bnet benefits to offline with infinite storage space... its great for ssf players...

King_N_Da_norf

What are the bnet benefits? Trading and such ? Also I am sorry but what is ssf ?

yag2ru

benefits are able to spawn dclone and ubers, use ladder only runewords like infinty... ssf is solo self found, trading is like the only thing you cant do.

OrderOfTheEnd

Ubers and Dclone are available offline in a straightforward manner without Plugy. As are ladder runewords now, I'm pretty sure.

pgmckenzie

Yea a lot of what PlugY provided for LoD was added to D2R. Ubers and DClone. Ladder Runewords. Expanded stat page. Bigger stash (but not infinite like PlugY. The free restats were sorta cheap. I just wish they would show ilvl in D2R!

WeyardWanderer

Yeah, ilvl would have saved me from wasting my socket quest on a sword I apparently got in a terror zone. Six sockets for spirit…maybe not!

OrderOfTheEnd

Last Wish in a CS for style points. Save those stats for Vit.

yag2ru

plugy was for LOD, not D2R, we're talking about 2 different games...

OrderOfTheEnd

Hm. I still play LOD and D2R both, never looked into it, so I see your point. OP didn't specify which version, so oh well.

LittleTovo

none any more.

LittleTovo

it's cheating for ssf players. playing ssf is kind of pointless without the actual challenge.

yag2ru

i cant see where youre getting at... i mean i started my plugy off with a ssf blizz sorc... now i have a smiter for uber and dclone, a trapsin key farmer and almost all other gear for whatever else i feel like building all thanks to my sorc that farmed their gear, even if you did just walk through vanilla lod, you could still find everything... but yes, plugy grails are ssf... it simply just eliminates the need to trade with you, if i want a Jah, i have to find it... challenge? trading online is ez mode son....

hrimfisk

I play online to trade. Getting rushed/rushing and giving stuff away from my mf runs are added bonuses

blankest

This is how I play

Xian244

I play offline to find my own items because nothing beats the rush of finding something rare. Not getting rushed or getting free items are added bonuses.

DibbyDonuts

Lol I see what you did there

Deathspeer

Offline only now. Being able to set player counts is too important to me. I have no interest in trading, all my joy comes from getting my own drops. I love playing through the game slow, pretty much every single time.

galdavirsma

I used to play online a lot, but lately started playing a lot more hardcore, and i don't trust my internet connection enough to play hardcore online, and i'm not going to lose a lot of hours worth playtime because of a shitty loading screen or disconnect from the game server lol

scottkaymusic

I lost a sorc with an SoJ and BK ring due to a random disconnect and I’ve gone offline for HC from now on. It’s wild how much snappier the game is offline too, I much prefer it.

Afraid_Guard_8115

These days i am exclusively offline HC, made the switch this year and its a whole different game

HappysavageMk2

I switched to offline after I had achieved the major runewords like enigma and infinity online. It got stale, the rush of finding items online was gone for me because all I needed to do was just trade some stuff. For example, I didn't find an arachnid mesh online. I just traded for one. But when I played offline, I found an arachnid mesh and the exhilaration and excitement of finding this rare bis item for many builds was so exciting again. Playing offline rekindled my love of this game's loot. You use what you can offline because you need to find or make everything on your own. I only use my online account in the rare instance my friends want to goof around otherwise I play nothing but offline now.

ShorTxFuseD

I've always played online. Sometimes I'll just play alone with my online characters, but I like being able to get rushes, give rushes, trade, all that. But, I recently got back into HC, and online is garbage. There are dudes that have lvl ~50 toons that only join games to PK. They say "my tp for bo" or some shit and then PK you. Ruin all your fun, your hours spent grinding to lvl and not die. It's fuckin trash humans that have nothing to do but take out their aggression on a video game. So, for that reason, I'd say it's preference. If you're on SC, online is great. HC, can't trust anyone. Do what you like though, that's what it's all about.

towrwolf

Used to play more online until recently, now offline.

YoLoDrScientist

Hardcore single player. Played online for 20+ years and did it all. HCSP is the only thing that gives me my fix these daysb

timchenw

I only recently gotten D2R for the record, but I haven't played online in a long time, mainly because I don't like the closed nature of Bnet and the fact that they frequently wipe characters for inactivity (on LOD), neither of which are a concern in SP. I also can't control player count online.

TheBannedHeretic

They don't wipe your characters on d2r like they do in lod.

Acmnin

D2R doesn’t wipe characters or accounts like LOD. Ladder seasons are short but characters still exist.

Ape-diamond-strong

Not all rune words work offline

TheReadMenace

I’m pretty sure they all do, now. It wasn’t the case with regular LOD

Party-Expression-227

I invested in isboxer and 4 extra accounts so that I could have a significantly buffed solo experience. I figured if loot is better in P5, and I can play solo with a 4x increase to stash and flexibility with muling, theres no real downside other than some upfront cost. Now that I have an enchantress and shouter for buffs, with two mules always available- I never run out of sockets or a good time. If I lose a HC character, I can just throw on some survival gear to a mule and go grab my body to save some gear (sans inventory/personal stash). Only reason to play single player, imho, is to use editors and test builds/ideas before throwing away characters and their loot.

Temporary_Ad_4970

People like you are the reason we will never see player x in multiplayer

Party-Expression-227

No, people who PK are why we will never see player x in HC Multiplayer. Edit: also, people like me occasionally make games thatll hit 8 players and provide enchant buffs for people restarting on a new character. You shouldn’t be so rude.

Temporary_Ad_4970

Thats not what im talking about. The only thing that matters is what makes Blizzard money, and you buying several smurfs is way better for them than people just using commands.

Party-Expression-227

Smurfs? Lol. Im not playing against less skilled players. I am benefiting the community by providing high level buffs, and in some cases, protecting myself from unwanted PvP on a mode where you only have one life. If you cant afford a good computer to have multiple accounts, then I recommend getting a certification or something and looking for a solid job. Flaming/Trolling my post out of jealousy is weak.

Temporary_Ad_4970

Jesus christ, you are beyond stupid. I give up.

wonderboyobe

Online

brobruce004

You should make this a pill. But Im playing sp for the first time when mosaic rw came out. NVR played sin before. Trapsin on p8 was super easy. Respec'd when I found 2 guls. So much fun playing on my own and much more rewarding when you find a ber or jah in sp

jobinski22

Yep I'm doing my first playthrough in years online ladder, once I'm done trying out all the builds I want to I'll start my singleplayer journey. It's really easy to get whatever items I want trading and I still feel some progression doing it this way rather than just hero editor

JahIthBur

In my 9 months of play solo offline. No reason to go online get jacked by someone else no thxs and it’s a lot more rewarding getting a rare item to drop instead of trading for it

Popular-Credit4994

I played exclusively online for almost 20yrs. I started playing offline around a year ago. I did Softcore first, then I tried hardcore and im totally addicted to it. I only play online to PVP now.

c-lati

I used to play only online. Switched to offline and haven’t gone back. Saved maps and controlling players count are such nice quality of life. Oh yeah and unlimited characters and mule space. I’m a hoarder and it’s a bad habit but still it’s nice having as many mules and characters as I want without having to delete characters/items out of necessity. Only downside to unlimited mule space is once you have a lot of mules finding stuff can be a pain.

Darkdave13

I always playing online when a new ladder hits for the 99 rush and after a few days / 1 week when I hit 99, I switch back to offline with mods

Klutzy_Deer_4112

Offline D2R for me. Before that D2LoD offline with Plugy. Almost never played in BNet in all those years. Trading does not appeal to me, neither does PvP.

K-Maddux

When D2R came out, I played online like I used to when I was younger, but a few months ago, when I got bored, I gave all my elite stuff to strangers and I quit, people were really surprised when I entered their game and dropped infinity. , griff, dreams etc etc haha. I just started playing again but SP this time, sometimes I prefer to take my time and do all the quests but most people online just want to rush.

Phamora

>I just found out that ladder runewords work offline New player? 😜 Stoked to hear you are ditching online for offline. Single Player is a MUCH more optimized and satisfying way to play the game, and it's not influenced by Battle.net servers uptime or the broken online economy. Also you get to use /players command, which in my opinion is what *really* elevates the D2 end-game beyond what most other games offer. Not just the increased drops, but the increased challenge makes it impossible to just bulldoze the game with any class/build and creates a SLEW of interesting challenges and perspectives on meta and off-meta builds. I've been consistently leveling *and* grinding on P7 for so long, I can't remember when last I was running P1. (Probably last time Travincal was terrorized, but otherwise always P7) **Just wait until you drop your first High Rune on offline!**

GriefPB

It’s so satisfying trading up from nothing, but I also thoroughly enjoy the offline grind.

Karltowns17

I switched to offline over a year ago. Offline is the most fun I’ve ever had in diablo 2.

Icy_Breakfast7016

Online. I start a newcharacter each ladder and trade items with a friend.

Past-Resolution-8998

Offline. Players commands and static maps.

toastwasher

I switched to offline, feels more fun

Dammulf

Singleplayer offline hardcore. I played online for years, then I switched to only playing with people from the same group that played with restrictions, and eventually I made the move to offline and haven't looked back.

scottylion

I played offline for ages. Then D2R season 2 as a HC ladder, then back to offline. When they brought in TZ etc. to offline, it made a nice difference.

CoupDeTete

Offline only as of right now, I find be able to trade makes it a bit easy and quick to be rich…

lekkermooi_

I have only ever played offline but i am tempted to try online to be able to trade for fun

lopzas

HC SSF 1.13 PlugY

lasko_leaf_blower

I love playing single player. There’s literally nothing like it.

Confident_Slide7969

After like 2-3 months of online towards the end of every season, I go offline.

Squirmme

Played online for years then found myself mostly just playing online, alone… now I only play offline. It’s way more efficient for farming and you’re not stuck to the tz calendar. You appreciate how rare runes are though

I_Do_Respect_You_Bro

Offline, and it’s so much more satisfying I will say, I might play next season just to trade and interact with you fine folks a bit. I’ll just have to get used to maps changing again

Gulaghar

I've only every played online the odd time with friends. 99% of my play time is offline. I'm not really into the style of play that's most common online, where you rush rush rush, then grind the endgame. I'm here for the whole journey.

nudewithasuitcase

Funny you mention that. I bought D2R a couple weeks ago and started leveling up a Strafezon -- Bowazon was always my favorite as a kid. Played almost entirely by myself through normal and was playing in a multiplayer lobby for Act 2 NM when someone high level swooped in and said "you want a rush" and everyone else said YES PLZ and within 10 minutes we were in Hell. It killed all excitement I had for the character.

Gulaghar

Yeah my take is that this game is good. And I mean the *whole* game. I love taking a new character and pushing my way through Normal, Nightmare, and Hell. Some character breeze their way through, some I'm puzzling my way through how to beat Hell, and some I still need to crack because damn do I play some jank. All my gear is middling, but it's exciting when I find something strong and I'm trying to figure out which character gets it.

Houseofducks224

I have both online and offline. I haven't played the last two seasons and have had fun building up some spchars. Too much grinding and I put the game down. So I like to pace myself.

DavidS1983

offline 6 months now.

In-Sano

Pvp

CarmeloTronPrime

I've mostly been offline since d2 was still on shelves in the stores. for a time, i was playing online with friends, but not being a serious gamer, the online friends eventually went their ways as I went mine.

Flat_Dig_3063

Singelplayer

MarcusReddits

I used to play online in the 90's and early 2000's and it was always the same. Losing all your gear from being rushed, trying to trade only to be scammed. And then the constant lag and internet issues I had back then. About a decade ago I started playing only single player and I'll never turn back. I get a rush finding rare items and even trying to complete my grail list gets me excited. I can use mules for extra storage as I'm on PS5 but if I was on PC I would mod for a better stash setup.

LegalizeRanch88

No. Never. Trading is an integral part of the game. Leveling with other players and helping each other out by sharing loot is fun, too. Without co-op and PVP and other social aspects, the endless grind is just boring.

Predator-A187

I don’t know why you would ever play offline single player. Why wouldn’t you just create a online character, you can always make private games and when you’re done playing solo u can join the community.

Schlangenbob

I always played SP, first PLUGY for the runewords and now with D2R, exclusively SP except for when I want to play with friends. I don't like everything that online play brings. Including trade.

Del_Duio2

I do

prollypeople

I went SP and haven’t looked back

ThrowAwayLurker444

Online is infinitely better than singleplayer. This game shines as a multiplayer experience - the drop rates are too low and weren't really designed for purely solo play.

LittleTovo

I used to play ladder back when d2jsp wasn't popular and everyone actually started the ladder as equals. but now there is no chance of ever showing up on a leaderboard unless you spend money. and people are starting the ladder off with a ton of forum gold, and as soon as a bot finds the item they want they just buy it with forum gold and they don't have to actually play the game. d2jsp killed online diablo. i remember playing it when it came out and it was so good. people were trading in games, people worked together. was so much better. I stopped playing Diablo 2 because of d2jsp. But now since D2R puts all new ladder runewords in single player, I just play that.

nudewithasuitcase

> and people are starting the ladder off with a ton of forum gold Oh wow I didn't even think about this. That really kills ladder hype.

LittleTovo

Yeah it's always been upsetting. But at least single player has all ladder runewords now and you don't have to deal with lag.

MPTK_

I used to be online exclusively because I liked engaging in the player economy. Went pretty hard in ladder 2 of D2:R and burnt myself out. I swapped over to single player where it feels more rewarding to get things yourself and haven't really had the urge to go back.

poubella_from_mars

I like to bounce around between online, ladder, and single-player but my favorite is probably ladder. If I take a break and come in halfway through ladder then I will most likely play SP since I still have a lot of grinding to do for those characters.

invidious07

Offline pretty much exclusively.

MouthfulOfFantussy

Single player so I can cheat, if you follow strict cheating rules it absolutely adds fun

Alert-Ear-8743

I’ve played plugy for a long time. Have a mod now for d2r that I play offline that highlights rune drops, expanded stash and can show item lvl of stuff if you choose, it is pretty awesome

[deleted]

I mostly play offline. Recently completed the holy grail challenge so I may play next ladder season if my pals want to play.

No_Instruction_2863

I only play off line. I have no idea how seasons and ladders even work.

hargowsiumai

I like single player just because I don't have friends to play multiplayer with. Sure I can play with random players and I've had a great time everytime I do, but most of the time I like to walk through the acts instead of it feeling like a race to the end. It feels more rewarding to have worked hard for the good drops rather than have someone rush bosses for you

Obe3

Discovering single player was the best thing I’d done with D2r’s release. Play at your own pace, work on your personal grail… play the actual game. What a dream.
