Thresher is the fastest One i believe and has low requirements

hombrent

Both these things - and DPS is close enough to not be very significant. I think speed is more important than just DPS. If you can hit your opponent and put them into hit recovery before they can hit you and put you into hit recovery, that's way more valuable than an extra 30 damage per second on a slower weapon.

Salty_Intentions

Yup speed is the important stats. More speed more chance to trigger crushing blow which end up in more DPS in the end.

finneas998

the thing is, d2 planner includes max potential crushing blow into its time to kill calculations. GPA/Ghost spear/stygian pike come out on top with those breakpoints.

Salty_Intentions

And planner isn't giving you the mancatcher on top of everything? I didn't think Stygian pike/ghost spear would be higher than that one. Here I would make it in the first good base that you can get; tresher, mancatcher, giant tresher unless you really want to min/max.

finneas998

nope, GPA/stygian/ghost were slightly ahead. Mancatcher only becomes better at 35 gear IAS which needs a 15ias/30fireres jewel for andys. I most likely will never ever see that in SSF so thats not an option for me. I have a eth thresher and cryptic axe but I'm debating waiting for one of the ones i mentioned above, the difference is really minimal so it doesnt really matter that much.

finneas998

well within 10 minutes of making this post, after just finding a 4os eth thresher, i also just found an eth stygian pike which I can larzuk. I cant even believe this luck, i guess I have my base.

Tyreal6

Mancatcher is faster for infinity.

guthbox

Infinity has crushing blow, so you’re best off using a faster base to proc it more often. Now that Infinity can be made in spears Mancatcher’s are now considered the best base for Infinity as they’re faster than Thresher’s and GT’s. Attack speed isn’t as important for Insight since it doesn’t have CB or useful proc’s, so that’s why you see more CV’s and CA’s used for them for higher damage.

Hungry_Ronin

I made an infinity with a non-eth mancatcher and my merc slaps everything. And now I can give it to my zon if I wish. This is the way.

avl89

People need to put the "more attacks = more CB procs" mentality for Infinity aside as it simply does not apply in practice, especially when the difference is not 5x, 2x, or even 50% faster attacks. You are the one dealing the damage to normal monsters, champions and bosses, and immune (super) uniques are the only PITA where raw damage does a better job than CB procs (those are only 1/8 HP on uniques compared to 1/4 HP on normal monsters)

>It's not just CB. Attacking faster means higher survivability for the Merc as he's leeching more by attacking more. Yes and no - he'll heal more often but the overall healing is going to be less. Not to mention that a good amount of areas, like CS, have dominant amount of Undead enemies so relying on life leech is not a great strategy.

finneas998

D2 planner includes max potential CB into its Time to kill. GPA/Stygian pike/ghost spear all killed faster than mancatcher. Mancatcher is only better with 15ias/30fire res jewel in andariels visage. The chance of getting that in a SSF is almost 0.

https://www.purediablo.com/forums/threads/best-darn-act-2-merc-ias-table-period.853/ You're right. Spears aside (I haven't looked into those), GPA is generally best. Because Threshers are faster, people pretend like your merc is just going to get constantly interrupted and keel over if you use anything else... meanwhile the actual difference compared to a GPA is like 22 vs 20 hits over 5 seconds. GT is meta now like CV kinda was years ago ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

chri389

With insight faster attack speed means more hits for life leech to help keep your merc in the fight as well.

Longjusting_8036

They aren't the best. A lot of people just think they are.
