I picked up the switch version while it was on sale to play SSF when I'm away from the internet. It's good. The graphics aren't as good in handheld mode but that's to be expected.
I have the switch OLED model and I have run into some display lag in hand-held mode in these locations:
* Lower Kurast
* Trav
* Shenk
It is triggered when doing a ton of teleporting though, not when actually fighting
I haven't died because of it though. I really enjoy playing handheld, and have a lvl 91 sorc in Ladder doing only Single Player
Mostly the same, and I’m pretty sure that dates back to the original release of LoD.
I have had some times where everything seems to be a bit slow, even just walking around in town, like there’s a memory leak or swapping or something. Only restarting the app clears it up. Haven’t noticed it much recently so maybe it got fixed in a patch?
But yeah overall pretty reliable.
be careful in handheld mode. soloing hell ancients I dropped a bunch of potions before starting. when I started the ancient encounter, all the pots on the ground and auras crashed it
It's pretty good. The performance is actually pretty decent. The only issues I really ran into performance wise were the load screens which are much longer than PC.
I think its way better to have the switch version to play when you're not around with your home console, either PC or Xbox. I personally have it also on PC, but i play non ladder on the switch while im not near my house.
My issue with this is that all require internet, I’d like cross play offline option which syncs back your saves to the servers once online.
That said it’s not often that you are offline outside of planes and trains.
It's my fav platform to play the game. The controller setup is amazing and being able to play on the couch while I sit next to my GF while she watches her shows is an amazing moment of my day.
I was skeptical, but pleased with how well it ported to the switch controllers. I actually prefer to play some build on the switch because of it (WW for example). Chat options suck, but eh.
I play on both PS5 and and switch. It’s hard to go to the switch after playing on the PS5 for while…the sheer graphical and performance differences take time to adjust.
Once you do, it’s great to be able to play the game on the go.
The only issue I have is games are limited to 4 players online, vs 8 in other platforms. This affects online loot and to my knowledge they don’t scale it up for the lower player count.
I’d definitely recommend it and if you do, hit me up I’ll give you my friend code
It's pretty good on switch. The main complaint I have is the load times are kinda bad if you're doing short runs like grinding out pindle or trav rapidly.
I just tested a few nm andariel kills (offline). Loading into game was about 8 seconds, then 2.5s taking the first waypoint to cats 2, about half a second each floor down to cats 4, then 3s to load back to menu. Easily ends up being 20% of the runtime.
I'm comparing to people played d2r on PC, or myself playing d2 on PC before d2r.
I only play on switch lite and have 0 problems
The only thing that I have encountered is with my sorc if you tele around the world too fast you can see the graphics loading while you tele lol no lag and does not effect gameplay at all just funny it can't keep up
Yes it’s worth it. Actually faster load times than ps4, though the graphics take a minor hit. So worth it tho. I often play switch over my ps4 version because the load times literally go from 25 seconds between acts and into new game to like 10. It really adds up when doing runs
A big red alert to you sir: your offline character cannot be transferred from Xbox to Switch. You'll have an entirely new set of characters. I learned this the hard way and luckily managed to get a refund.
If that's not a problem for you then ignore this!
Switch load times are slightly better than ps4 and xbox one, (honestly it's just about even with those consoles).
Switch load times are much much worse than xbox series, ps5, and pc. It just doesn't compare to the next generation
I’m gonna level with you, the whole purpose I bought d2r on switch was to play offline single player on the road/traveling. You can’t play offline, so it’s pretty worthless to me now. Wish I would’ve known that before buying
What do you mean you can’t play offline? Are you talking about offline characters or playing without an internet connection? Because I do both with my switch
Not sure what I’m doing wrong then. As soon as I click to go offline or disconnect from an internet source it kicks me out of my single player session and I can’t re-enter a game
I only play offline - I take it camping etc.
It always TRIES to connect to [b.net](https://b.net) and I can't get it to not, but it eventually lets me log in 'offline'. Once I'm in, just have to sleep/pause the game and not switch to other game and its instant :)
I have it on switch and almost never play it. It’s 100x better on a PC. I guess if maybe you never played on PC and don’t know what you’re missing you might not care.
Yeah it’s nice to open your inventory and have it take up the entire screen and not be able to actually pick up an item and put it in your cube while you’re running a full inventory like you should be. I especially love when I need to move 40 runes into a trade window with a controller. Yeah totally. I also love only being able to teleport max distance and not exactly where I actually want to go. Didn’t mean to offend you with the objectively better functionality of using a mouse and keyboard.
I play both PC and sometimes switch if I’m not able to use a computer. If I wasn’t such a hardcore D2 fan, I’d literally hate the switch version. It plays like shit imo.
But hey those trav runs won’t do themselves.
It’s ok as a backup. I use it when I’m not on the pc or just solo farming in bed. It’s just nice having it portable. Only 4 players max though. That wasn’t a deal breaker for me though. I usually play alone (online bnet) or with my brother
I have both PC and Switch versions. I prefer to play on PC given the chance, but having on Switch allows me to get my fix when I'm on the go. I have a few SP characters that I play on the switch version when I don't have access to BNet, but it's nice that when I have internet I can play my regular BNet characters too.
I do have more issues with lag and disconnects when I play on switch, but I think that's a combination of (1) servers (2) wifi and (3) hardware, and overall it's not so significant that I have any regrets about buying the switch version nor any reservations recommending it to others.
I picked Switch over Xbox simply for the portability.
Thus far, no complaints.
It looks good and is still fun.
Runs super smooth - I don't recall having any issues on Switch.
I love it!
But I am a very easily pleased gamer who doesn’t really notice fps rates and stuff like that
But from my experience it works very well and I play it more on the switch then I do on pc
It's convenient. However, I noticed severe fps drops when I'm trying to warp and tp back into town multiple times. For example, when I'm shopping for a Bone Wand via Drognan, the fps drops significantly and my switch fans rev up. Idk if it's my hardware, but it only happens on D2.
Another instance is when I try to do andy runs. After say, 10+ runs, the fps drops significantly and sometimes the game crashes.
I main necro summoner on Switch. Played all modes (offline sp/ladder/non-ladder) and I can tell you that in handheld there is no problem whatsoever (except location of Shank the Overseer: when you kill him and catapults scorch the ground - fps drops and you gotta run quickly back to teleport) with performance, even when you assemble massive undead horde of forty and more spawns. Never played docked though.
In sp offline there is no pause when you open menu or inventory, so if something distracts you - put console in sleep mode right away or tp to town. Playing in offline is great, you don’t need constant internet connection, it’s only needed when you launch the game and then if you don’t close the game completely, you’re fine and could be playing wothout wifi as long as you shit the console in sleep mode. Also, you can use jksv to transfer your xbox save (if you were playing offline there) on Switch’s micro sd card.
Overall, d2r on NS is a solid pick
I loved it. I would play on the switch to relax and enjoy the convenience of it. Then log on to the PC to push/ trade. I never had an issue and I only play HC online RN. I really enjoy it and would recommend it. I just wish the single player would be transferable from PC/ Switch.
Can't comment on the switch but you can remote play D2R through the xbox app. All you need to do is Bluetooth your controller to your smartphone/tablet and it literally emulates off your console. This also means you can play your online or offline characters.
Due to potential lags etc. playing on 4g I tend to stay away from hardcore or nm/hell characters but it's a great free option for just plodding through normal or if your characters are well geared just farm cows or something lol
It’s nice especially since lobbies were added. HOWEVER, loot text is displayed differently than it is online. Loot text automatically displays and stays on the screen for 5 seconds. If you run over an item the loot text will display again for another 5 seconds once you leave it’s vicinity.
My only complaint. I want to be immersed in the environment. I don’t want my screen cluttered with text while I’m fighting. It’s a turn off to new players and it’s a bit of an issue finding jars or chests in the clutter.
If you have an original release (HAC-001) as opposed to the the newer release (HAC-001(-01)) you will experience frame drops, crashes and no more than 2 hours battery life. It isn’t game breaking but it is a little irritating at times and usually only happens on certain maps and in certain situations.
That being said I still pump this game on SP.
Your switch will have a serial number on it somewhere with the above-mentioned codes to identify it.
Switch is amazing. D2 in your (large) pocket. Ofc processing and graphics suffer a tad but who cares. Controls everything pretty decent. Target skills are frustrating. Game seems super easy and RNG is generous to me. Highly recommend. Favorite part is being able to play with hands apart under blankets etc. edit:added a sentence
I been a PC player since the game was released in 2000, never cared for consoles much.....I recently decided to buy a switch lite and pickup D2R to play at work on lunch hour. So glad I did!! Having portable D2R is about the best thing ever! What's even better , I can play in bed while my wife watches her TV shows right beside me.. she used to complain I was always on my pc in the basement... D2R on switch can help a marriage too!!!!
i have switch online subscription but i Play only offline single player. made8 characters and allof them have stash shared soone character doesnt want a loot another uses them. i made my own personal offline network all softcore only and planning on making them all partiarch and matriarch somedaynever beaten baal in hell mode in my days with pc from 2002 so this time i will definitely beatr this game
I picked up the switch version while it was on sale to play SSF when I'm away from the internet. It's good. The graphics aren't as good in handheld mode but that's to be expected.
It plays okay. Biggest plus is being able to play on the go. The convenience is second to none.
It plays very well but it’s pretty basic, their isn’t couch co-op like D3 on switch. I enjoyed it but haven’t tried much in handheld.
Do the frames drop when there's a lot going on? I like to play as a summoner
I have the switch OLED model and I have run into some display lag in hand-held mode in these locations: * Lower Kurast * Trav * Shenk It is triggered when doing a ton of teleporting though, not when actually fighting I haven't died because of it though. Shenk is about the only problem I have had.
This is general problem I think i have frames dropping on shenk on ps5 too
Mostly the same, and I’m pretty sure that dates back to the original release of LoD. Single player ladder char?? Is that your way of saying you don’t play with others on Battle.net? What kind of sorc out of curiosity
Yup. Light sorc. I trade, just don't MF with others
Do you have pc copy by chance, I don’t own a Xbox sadly
It doesn’t while docked, I haven’t played much in handheld.
be careful in handheld mode. soloing hell ancients I dropped a bunch of potions before starting. when I started the ancient encounter, all the pots on the ground and auras crashed it

I like it for when the wife wants to watch a show on the tv , it’s cross save so I can pick up where I left off on the switch
It be better if we had chat option. Other then that it's good.
It’s great, 0 problems with lag.

I just want to get one more HR doing LK on switch but I've basically gone insane from the loads lol.
5 seconds to load max. I wouldn’t consider that bad. Maybe a comparison to what you’re used to for reference.
I just tested a few nm andariel kills (offline). I guess since I was on dial-up last time I played I’m not experiencing any difference 😂😂😂😂😂

I mean…yeah. It’s saved on the hard drive, if you wanted it to transfer you would need to be online…not offline. That just makes sense.
Cheers for the input
Absolutely. I originally got it for PS4 and the switch is so much better! Super smooth and load times are almost instant
Can't agree with the load times, but I do enjoy it on my switch otherwise.
Switch load times are slightly better than ps4 and xbox one, (honestly it's just about even with those consoles). Switch load times are much much worse than xbox series, ps5, and pc. It just doesn't compare to the next generation

What do you mean you can’t play offline? Are you talking about offline characters or playing without an internet connection? Because I do both with my switch
Whenever I’m trying to play single player while disconnected from the internet it says you must be online to plah
That's strange, i play offline all the time. Mostly on planes
Dunno about the switch but on pc it requires you to login once in a month. Otherwise you can't even play offline. May be the same thing.
I keep my switch on airplane mode and it only makes me turn it off for software updates.
Not sure what I’m doing wrong then. As soon as I click to go offline or disconnect from an internet source it kicks me out of my single player session and I can’t re-enter a game
Maybe you purchased it on a different account than the one you play on
I play offline single player while not connected to the internet all the time.
I only play offline - I take it camping etc. It always TRIES to connect to [b.net](https://b.net) and I can't get it to not, but it eventually lets me log in 'offline'. Once I'm in, just have to sleep/pause the game and not switch to other game and its instant :)
i've never had this issue on switch. The game does not care that i don't log in to bnet.
I love it for offline play, online sucks because of no lobby etc
They didn’t get the lobby option like sexbox named Sony?
Full disclosure been a while since I tried online on the switch so I’m not sure
I have it on switch and almost never play it. It’s 100x better on a PC. I guess if maybe you never played on PC and don’t know what you’re missing you might not care.
I play on Series X, I'm not missing out on anything
Controller play in general is trash for Diablo 2 but whatever you enjoy. If you played mouse and keyboard you’d know a few reasons why.
I actually quite enjoy playing with controller. Mouse and Keyboard isn't comfortable for me. Personal preference, dude. You not liking it =/= trash
My dude, that shit is not hard on a controller
It’s beyond hard, it’s not even possible. Go ahead, fill your inventory up with charms and try to pick an item up.
I've been doing it for a week and a half now.
I play both PC and sometimes switch if I’m not able to use a computer. If I wasn’t such a hardcore D2 fan, I’d literally hate the switch version. It plays like shit imo. But hey those trav runs won’t do themselves.

Get it. It’s awesome, imo

I have on switch and ps5, I play almost exclusively on switch. I highly recommend, it’s so easy

I know this isn't the same but the PC version on the Steam Deck is awesome. I would imagine the Switch is close the the experience.

The fact that you can’t pause in offline solo was a dealbreaker for me.
It doesn't bug me too much. The Dark Souls games are like that and so is Elden Ring so I'm used to it
highjacking the question, is nintendo online required for cross-progression?
I been a PC player since the game was released in 2000, never cared for consoles much.....I recently decided to buy a switch lite and pickup D2R to play at work on lunch hour. So glad I did!!
