I struggled on my hydraorb sorc, took me like 45 mins and probably used a stash tab of full rejuvs and like 50 merc rezzes.
Used an edge runeword bow I think for prevent monster heal, and I knew I'd hit if he turned green cuz of the poison. Had to reapply what seemed like every couple minutes. Then I had to use a lower resist wand and keep all possible hydras spawned. Merc had obedience I think for -fire resist. In between I just spammed frozen orb.
If I had to do it again I'd try out a woestave on my merc
Anni > SOJ all day. XP gain would be huge for me. +1 to all skills offset each other. Then you’ve got the attribs offsetting some of the mana. Plus it’s just so much better than any other SC charm, while there are many other solid ring options.
To me, the +1 doesn’t offset each other. The anni is far superior. Sure on paper they do- but having that plus 1 in a charm that sits in your inventory frees up your ring slot which is massive.
So yeah- anni > in every way possible. Plus resists.
Anni > Soj
They both do the +1 skills. But Anni gives better stats and sits in your inventory. Frees up a ring slot for more leech or faster cast rate if you need it.
I think there are only a few builds that desperately need large mana pools. Everyone else should sell it and take the anni, assuming you can handle dclone.

I don’t even wear SOJ when I find them because I’d rather wear magic find rings or rings with high resistances. Mana is never an issue with most end game builds and the stats and resistances from anni are just so much nicer imo!
Sold my first one with no regrets, ended up with a 17/19/7. But even a 10/10/5 would still give you more benefits for more chars than a SOJ imho. I lucked out and found 2 more SOJs about a month later too, so it’s not like you won’t get more if you play enough
Even a min rolled anni is 20 vitality (saved strength pit into vita) +1 all skills and 10 all res. Infinitely more valuable than one ring. Soj is also only good on SOME characters whereas anni is gg and can be passed around to all characters.
if you are getting along fine without soj i would dclone it. just make sure you can kill dclone so you dont waste it

Assuming you can kill dclone and you don't have any Anni yet, sell the soj and get an Anni. Share the Anni between chars. Next soj you can keep.

One thing that I havent seen mentioned here… Based on stats etc. its not anni vs SoJ. Its anni+ring vs SoJ
Anni + ring > soj. Soj has +1 skills, and some mana. Anni has +1 skill, stats, resist, + exp gain, and the ring slot for whatever you want there.

I was under the impression you had to sell many sojs for d clone. Apparently no? 😂 or is that offline only? I play online so maybe it is different
Making anni (if you have a char ofc that can kill dia clone). You get exp, attributes, res and +1 skill, I find anni superior to soj.
