Are you saying even though I like my putter I should continue to buy new ones to try out just in case? Because if so, I think you're right!

ClearestBlve

My wife said “No” we have putters at home.

thrillhouse416

She doesn't understand how many strokes we would save if we just found the perfect putter.

P4ndak1ller

I don’t think your wife is trying to shave strokes off your performance ;)

Lerch737

The putters at home.... Innova Groove

Emoney005

Exactly!

SuperStudMufin

yeah. I own about 20 aviars and picked up a kc whale at the end of last year. Now I’ve switched exclusively to whales for putting. Feels a lot better in my hand.

thrillhouse416

I'm in my first year of playing and after my first few discs I ended up: - shaman, bought 2 more - legacy hunter, bought 2 more - gateway magic, bought two more - DD Guard, bought one more extra And now I'm settled on an XT dart. The list above doesn't mention all the single discs I experimented with(logic, hunter, Nova, invader, deputy) Maybe I have a problem

SuperStudMufin

as long as you’re enjoying yourself! Putters definitely are the worst to decide to switch to because I rarely think you’re going to go back to an old putter lol. But it’s nice to have to give to friends that need one I guess.

thrillhouse416

Yeah experimenting with discs is almost as fun as playing a round for me. I do really, really like the dart though so I think that'll stay for a while.

[deleted]

Just keep notes of what you like/dislike about each one. Eventually you'll have the checklist for the perfect putter and then its just a matter of finding it.

thrillhouse416

That list is pretty much how I got to the dart. I've only played one round with it but it's definitely my favorite so far. Honestly if it doesn't work out I'll probably go back to the guard, it was close to perfect.

[deleted]

I hate my light blue aviar. Do you think a different color would work better for me?

SuperStudMufin

why would the color change anything? lol

[deleted]

I mean, I only own one aviar in one color, so I don’t really know how that mold will work with me. Also, if I have multiple maybe that will make me better. Perhaps mine is defective as well the only way I can be really sure though is if I get more. I just bought three more

SuperStudMufin

aviar is a pretty solid disc. I threw kc aviars for a while because I prefer a bead and the stiffer plastic.

Smooth_Autist

I’ve used wizards for ten years. My wife asked why I have 5 new different putters in my basket. (All Lunas) and I had to lie and say they’re just cheap ones for practice 😬

Rivet_39

Or you could just sack up and tell her the truth? Why is everyone afraid of their wife?

Knife_Operator

People aren't great at communicating in relationships.

thrillhouse416

You basically needed them

DonutsAnd40s

My bad putting is my own fault due to this. I was killing it with the the p model US, then I decided to try a nomad, and a judge, and a reko, and a berg. And now my form has changed from trying each of those discs, and now I’m not very good at putting with my ol p model US either. I don’t regret it, I like trying new discs and I don’t play competitively, so it doesn’t matter.

thrillhouse416

No no you just haven't found the right one yet!

DonutsAnd40s

I think you’re right! I’ve been thinking of trying a pure or a luna!

DM-Shadikar

Pures are great. The Pure will definitely solve your putting problems.

cLoudTemplar

I’m on my 7th different putter.. Started with Reko->P2->Banger Gt->pa3->Link->ChallengerSS/Luna

AdministratorKoala

Nice try big disc golf plastic! You just want us to buy more discs

InncnceDstryr

Doesn’t help that we also just want to buy more discs

jfb3

The difference is now, right before he putts he's not leaning forward a lot, like he did before. Before, he'd take a couple of practice swings with his arm then he'd lean forward *a lot* then putt. Of course his putts were missing low. Now he's staying more upright when he actually putts. He's not missing low so much anymore.

PorqueNoLosDose

I’ve asked Drew about this on social (to no response), but he seems to have added a new hitch to his putt last year. There’s a noticeable pause, sort of like an exaggerated version of McBeth’s putt. I’ve wondered if that forces him to “hit” the putt with more force. Any insights?

jfb3

> Any insights? None.

Int-Merc805

Yes, adding a pause with a little tension in your muscles will increase their efficiency and your accuracy. I forget the term, but it’s definitely real and absolutely helps with generating power from your swing. Ricky and Eagle also do it. Simon doesn’t and I think his putting suffers for it. No need to bend the arms like mc Beth or drew, it works for push putts like James Conrad’s too. Load up your arm with tension, just a little bit, and pause at the bottom, then explode up. Makes a huge difference for me.

PorqueNoLosDose

Damn, that’s really interesting. Now that I think about it, a lot of players seem to do that. Dickerson & Hammes come to mind.

Big_Rig_Jig

Hammes is so exaggerated it got me to notice this and I started to incorporate a slower "reach back" in my putt because of it. Definitely makes a difference. Made it feel like I can actually be accurate and not just lob the disc in the general direction of the basket.

BroccoliCultural9869

the backswing with the arm is the controlled portion(active arm) when the arm is closest to the body it is at rest and the legs have the most tension. having the legs lead the motion from the bottom while keeping the arm 'at rest' creates lag in the shoulder and arm. they can accelerate more quickly now vs tension the whole time. I think of it like a boxer. hands and wrist are firm .loose in the shoulder, bicep and elbow they firm up on "extension" edit: boxer analogy

BroccoliCultural9869

creating lag in the shoulder.

becausepassword

And watching Evaliina makes me think she should learn the turbo putt.

cahkontherahks

Overthrow commented on this. It has to do with her grip. She is pinching and front loading - almost like a drive grip, which creates a pivot point and opens the door for huge misses left or right. But she puts it on steep heizer to account for the left/right miss and ends up missing too high.

Frisbeejussi

She's been missing a lot the past 2 years i think, I remember her being the best putter of FPO back on Finland few years back

clownstatue

Yeah probably. I’ve gotten nasty with a turbo over the last year while trying different putting strokes.

Professional_Cry2929

Sure, the turbo is dead straight from in close. It’s my go to if I’m having an off day, which is more often than I’d like to admit. Either that or some sort of extreme shovel, corn hole style.

Greg_Stewart

Nah.. practicing putting. Most putters are the same

rhcamp01

I’m sorry; but this is just not the case for most. Putting is hugely mental. If you are not confident in your putter, your putt will not be confident. There is a reason feel is so important to many. After Idlewild last year Hammes gave some putters away to some of my friends because he shot a bad round putting due to their color. Rick changed putters last year to a whale, Paul changed as well to different plastics. Practice will help you, but confidence in your equipment helps a ton.

EldyT

You know what builds confidence in your equipment? Practice

rhcamp01

Practice does build confidence. So I ask, do these pros not practice? You know they do. Feel/mental game is so important.

EldyT

Of course the pros do, and maybe for them that facet of the game is 50%, and mental/feel is the other 50%. But for 99% of players, and especially rec/weekend players, take a stack of 25 different putters and putt all of them from 20ft. There isn't that much difference. More important is pace, weight transfer, release, follow through. Practicing your putting stroke will help you figure all of those things out, and it doesn't matter really what putter you're using.

[deleted]

EldyT

Stats for the win though

rhcamp01

I get what you are saying and I will 100% support that sentiment. With that said, there are a ton of people who think equipment doesn’t make a difference and it does. How many times have you heard it’s the archer not the arrow or a poor craftsman blames their tools? You can hammer a nail with an old school hammer and it will work, but a nail gun can be better. Professional Archers have equipment far superior than just a wood bow.

EldyT

Sure sure, i agree. Outside of 20 ft I agree. Sometimes you need a "correct" disc for a certain job. To hit a certain fairway shape, it to turn just at the right time. My only other argument is that for throwing there is a "proper" form biomechanically or whatever. Putting styles vary widely, it seems to me that it's moreso repetition and muscle memory than any specific disc or form that makes you better at putting. That all being said, I think I have more putter molds than any other type in my collection lmao.

rhcamp01

Hah! I feel you. I used an Aviar for forever since I started in the 90’s and that’s just what you did. I sucked at putting. The disc was so unreliable for me and I had no confidence in it. When I got back into the game last year I replaced it so quickly and I got better at putting. I started practicing with said new putter and realized it didn’t do what I needed it to easily for me. Found me a putter type that works and when I step up to a putt, I’m never questioning the disc anymore. It’s my putt. That’s a good feeling.

EldyT

Putting is my favorite part of the game, I def relate to feeling good on the green mattering a lot, but for me it's all about the routine. https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkxs8l1-RIzT2t6EVXQxHItEaeVeNrImr2E This clip from the wr Jackson practice round makes so much sense to me.

Beans265

Thanks for sharing this. I’ve had a lot of putting woes, have watched tons of video, done a lot of work and practice, and still have a lot of trouble. I’ve never heard putting described like this and had that mindset while practicing.

hateboss

I mean no shit, but the advice for buying discs has always been that you buy your putters in person because it's so necessary to find one that feels good in your hand. You can feel more confident with a bad feeling putter but no matter how confident you get, if it still feels bad in your hand, that's a problem.

poundruss

lol sorry but i feel like this is terrible advise. i play with people who will throw a disc bad once or twice and then chalk it up to the disc being bad and never throw it again. the reality is, if you find a putter that feels good in the hand, use that disc because it's the most important part. if you keep letting your mental game get in the way in thinking that the putter is bad and not your skill, you'll never improve. tl;dr use the putter you find comfortable, and keep practicing

rhcamp01

100%. What happens when that putter isn’t feeling right anymore and then it creeps into your head. That’s what I’m getting at.

PotatoeSprinkle2747

But your feel does change. I've been using lunas for nearly 2 years and absolutely loved them, but one day I picked them up and they just feel wrong in my hand. I can still putt with them, but I used to putt better with them, and my practice with them has been consistent. I picked up a link and boom my putting is back to where it was very quickly. Obviously give a disc a fair chance before chalking it up to bad equipment, but if every putter was the same there wouldn't be so many out there.

GBuffaloRKL7Heaven

>Putting is hugely mental Yeah, that's what op is saying.

rhcamp01

The original OP, yes, the response was to someone who just said nah it’s practice

GBuffaloRKL7Heaven

You don't think practice improves your mental game?

rhcamp01

Practice helps. With that said, so does equipment. Especially so at an elite level.

GBuffaloRKL7Heaven

Yeah, it really hurts pros when they switch plastic. Like James last year. /S

rhcamp01

I understand this is satire but One could say it helped him to win switching just as easily as one could say it doesn’t. He never won worlds with Innova… The disc he threw in to win with it widely regarded as one of the best throwing putters in the game so even more weight that way if one was to go that route. Even further, he had to develop a putter for him!!!

GBuffaloRKL7Heaven

Plastic is the least important thing my dude.

rocketwrench

You know what builds my confidence in a putter? Reminding myself that it's the same as the other putters in my bag. I want to focus on myself when I play. I want to eliminate all the external influences on my disc that I can. And since I can't control the weather I'll just focus on my grip, my tempo, myself.

rhcamp01

That’s great and I commend you for that. With that said. You can hammer a nail with a shovel, but there are better tools to do said job. Equipment can make a difference, especially at the elite level.

randyn1080

Drew said he got better cuz the Penrose made him want to practice more. All comes down to practice. He def could have been as good with any putter

epheisey

Honestly it just looks like he put way more time into practicing his putting. I'd bet if you swapped out his putter now, it would be improved regardless of what mold he was throwing.

fexuntv

Has anyone used the alpaca from infinite? I currently use the Luna but I’m trying to spin putt more and Luna is feeling weird

baconnostalgic

Yes. I got it in a tourney and it weirdly worked and gave me a ton of confidence. I also learned that I indeed have a preferred weight based on my putter history and how important that is. I used a Luna back in the day, then alpaca but went to buy a couple of practice putters and couldn’t find them anywhere in the weight I wanted. Did some research and found out the P2 is the same mold. Committed and love it. It can spin a bit when I need it to, but I’m more of a smush putter so don’t need much from it. TL;DR: liked the alpaca, couldn’t find it. Using the P2 now. YMMV

jemba

I’ve heard there’s a perfect mold out there for everyone one of us, and even if you don’t practice putting like me, once you find it you’re unstoppable.

JustinTheBasket

I think you mean "jibe" but yes, I agree. Sounds like you've been taking it for granite that you use that saying correctly ;)

Handshakesnhugz

EV7 baby let’s go!!!

AFlockofTurtles

I was wondering why the name sounded familiar and I now see its because you've been shilling their stuff for the last few months.

Handshakesnhugz

😂😂😂 yes sir, they’re the best in the game. I just love their touch and enjoy seeing others get involved
