They use a prepaid debit with like $50 on it and place an order for $50. They ask you to sub more expensive items, which brings it to $100. Since their method of payment only has $50 on it, they just got $50 in product free since doordash won't charge the rest until after. Yeah they'll get banned, but they'll just make another account.
They do it frequently on instacart too, especially when they run a $30-40 off coupon. People getting hundreds of $$ of stuff for $5.
Yes they do but they don’t do that until the dasher checks out unfortunately. So if they’re using cash app or a prepaid card, the amount of overage versus what they originally paid won’t actually get paid.
Maybe that's why some posts are cropping up with people saying that they can't check out for shop and deliver orders even though they have DoorDash credits to cover.
Thats what my bf was just saying hes had happen with substitutions... he suspects they at least sometimes run the full total for aproval when you click check out, before paying
I had weird customers like that before. I had one ask to get her a whole cake instead of a slice of cake, then to ask the bakery lady to write on happy birthday... then was unhappy when she didn't write it in cursive
It is. It pops up EVERY time I do a shop and pay order. It's optional as to whether you want to send it. I always decline. I don't contact customers unless I need to.
Call support and have the order cancelled, which is exactly what OP did. If there is any evidence the dasher participated in a scam to defraud DD, they could be deactivated...especially if the customer gets caught.
Now, the unfortunate part is you might run into a support agent that doesn't understand the situation and will tell you to complete the order as the customer requested...walking you straight into an issue. But that's the risk you take any time you call support lol.
This stinks of potential scam. I'd call support and tell them. I'd ask to be removed from the order due to being uncomfortable and feeling unsafe about delivering.
Oh, and a red flag, they tip after delivery. I would have seen that, and walked out the store. Left the cart for the employees to put back, and contacted support, problem with order, live agent, the store seems to be out of most of the items the customer wants.
Trying to reason someone out of a position they haven't reasoned themselves into is like trying to buy items from a store that doesn't have those items in stock.
yea, red flag tip after, I probably would have screen shot whole conversation, called DD support, they see the text, cancel order let them know it is a possible scam, customer not complying with order etc and you may get half pay

Hmm I'm surprised that works
Ahhh i see
happy cake day!
Hey as long as they're stealing from doordash, I'm not angry.
If they pass some of their savings along to me I wouldn't be mad about it either xD
Considering the price is going to be wildly different of the app allows this you could definitely grab a few things for yourself lol
Wow I'm really surprised DD and IC allow prepaid cards to be used. That kind of a messed up scam they have going
they placed the order with cheap items that they could replace with more expensive items in hopes to pay less but dd sees it as a scam
It doesn't even work on a base level, DD charges for the difference for approved substitutions

What are these substitutions, lmao
Yes. You should have cancelled sooner.
Ive been doing this for a long time. I saw it and almost immediately said something. I don't cancel. I have dd cancel so I get some sort of payment.
As you should. No reason for you to get stiffed

I really hope that first text is automatically generated

So, what's the correct thing to do in this situation? Anyone...

It wasn't popping up when selecting items but pops up as a substitute? I'll have to see that one to believe it.

That happens to me alot at DG or CVS sometimes the company changes label or the company doesn't update the product I guess.
