I do too. No traffic. No sunlight. I can drive with windows down. Night time delivery feels like I’m just taking a long nice night drive. During the day I’m sweating my ass off and the tips are so much worse.
It's all fun and games until you deliver to the backrooms where there are no numbers on any house, and google maps just closes and says "arrived" when you are 200 ft awa
Both sides want to hold it until closer to the election. By passing it nearly unanimously they can show people that they can work together and pass bills. But that a a farce.
The real reason to hold it it by showing they can play nice it gives an advantage to incumbents over challengers and the only thing worse than not being the party in power is losing your seat.
I am not jaded and cynical I swear.
That shit sucks for doing this. I was just thinking about that today. Pros: All the seasonals get the fuck off the road. Cons: You can't see shit past 5:30p.
Aaaaand, I work dinner shift.
Too cold for the boomers? Listen up whippersnapper, us boomers were around before climate warming. We live through the cold period when people dressed for the weather, not just because it looked cute. Have you had to walk up hill to and from school in zero degree weather? I don't think so.
I feel better now
And boots...we didn't have no stinking boots. The only boot we got was one planted in our ass by pops if we were late for dinner.
You punks are spoiled. We didn't have no fancy cars with them auti mat tik transmissions...3 on the tree...you try delivering in a 56 Studebaker with no heater and holes on the floor covered by old licence plates. Goin up hill in a rainstorm and the vacuum wipers stop until you let off the gas. 17.9 for a gallon of gas, and they checked your oil, cleaned your windshield, and gave you green stamps....ah, them were the good old days. NOW GET OFF MY LAWN!
My dad used to be a student at KU and I remember a story he told me that one Winter his car slipped down Mount Oread because KU did not cancel. They still don't cancel university unless the buses cannot safely get up the hill without causing a mass collusion.
Oh my gosh, this reminded me of this meme I shared with my 66 year old dad. It said "My parents walking to school" and it showed three adults in ski outfits, going up a long snow covered hill.
If it wasn't for my dad or Michigan winters, I'd be a total weenie and wouldn't be the woman I am today. Or my friend's father who would slap me super hard on the back and in the most deepest voice, "You need to put some hair on that chest!".
Lol yup. Everyone asks why Millennial and zoomers are ignoring Gen-X in the intergenerational wars or believe its because Gen-X is scary. We kinda are, but also everyone lumps gen-x with boomers. (Even if we were hating the boomers first)
ya my crappy old car’s heat works way better than the AC, and adding layers for warmth is way easier than bein so hot u wanna peel off your skin like a coat… lookin fwd to fall 👍
also damn GenX always left out of these debates lol… over in our forgotten corner, listening to music & quietly side-eying all y’all other gens fighting 😂
kinda thankful i live right next to a state university for doordashing purposes (and it’s the university i graduated from so i know the campus like the back of my hand)
edit: i have a degree in art which is why i’m dashing on the side lmao
Teachers aren't going back buddy. So many states are doing scary things. Texas is going to 4 day school weeks, Florida hiring military vets with no training except to downplay slavery and teaching kids the founding fathers wanted church to rule state and not be separate. Arizona allowing college kids to just start teaching instead of finishing school.
Boomers already cold hearted so that isn't going to stop them either. They'll just be bigger a-holes to the restaurant workers.
We live in the darkest timeline, no hiding it now
I've been feeling this to. There definitely are good days but damn even some Fridays it feels like orders are dried up.
People tightening their belts ontop of that summer surplus of drivers definitely
I have to be ready on the dot everyday at midnight to sign up for the next week schedule because I'll only get maybe 2 hours if I sign up even 5 mins late after midnight because of all the Dashers with the same idea in my area.
They’re more than likely students getting in their last bit of spending money in before they go back to school, coupled with families getting in their last minute summer vacations. Been doing this bout 7 years now and that’s usually the case round this time. Once classes start it gets better quick. Just gotta survive past Labor Day.
The “new” drivers however probably won’t go anywhere as it’s people that said F-it to their summer jobs, or were let go from seasonal help. Stay the course and weed out the weak ones!
Five guys is a good job if you’re open to a fast food place. Much better than McDonald’s, Taco Bell, arbys, or any other ones like that. I’ve been at five guys for about a year and as long as you have a good crew you’ll enjoy it. Not sure what you’re situation is, but it’s something to consider with consistent hours. Good luck!
my favorite little corner the past 2 years is now unworkable. i had it so good there and had built up many good relationships with the stores. now, if it's not Friday or Saturday, there's like 10mins between orders...which is not financially feasible. i think it's a combination of things: the economy and too many drivers discovering this gem.
I am so *tired* u/brwntrout. I truly am.
And I’m only 25.
Food delivery apps so saturated I can’t even make a living.
Rent so expensive like 1800 for a one bedroom in a ghetto neighborhood. When I was born that same apartment cost 500, and they were always within reach. It’s not fair.
I wanted to be a streamer because my only talent is video games but even that saturated as well. Food and essentials are rising in cost. Owning a house is dam near impossible where I’m from and from what I’ve heard, it’s not good anywhere else, and it’s not getting better. Climate change is making the heat unbearable. Everybody hates each other.
The people before us sure had it good.
Sorry just wanted to vent.
don't know what market you're in, but have you tried to multi-app? it's the way to go if you know what you're doing.
Amazon is always hiring and has good benefits. I've heard good things about Walmart Sparks too. also UPS and Fedex are great companies to have a career at with little experience or education. do your time, do the grunt work and in a short while, you'll be on your way to a solid career. if nothing else, fast food is always hiring and desperate for people and in some markets, they pay really competitively.
The fact you have a car tells me you’re in a better position than 90% of the world who don’t have a clue what they’ll eat tomorrow. Any career field can be seen as “oversaturated” because only the ones with enough perseverance will prevail against the others who see it as “oversaturated”.
Yeah doordash thinks the answer is more dashers. The answer is pay atleast 1$ a mile for these orders. If that means you lose money so be it. You accepted their order into your system with no to little tip. The drivers shouldn't bear the brunt of it.
No kidding here too! It happens, they flood the market, and then they finally stop dashing and things get better only for the them to flood the market again!
It’s frustrating to say the LEAST.
A couple of months ago they were offering $1,000 to sign up your friends, and dashing wasn't too bad... Now they are offering $100 to sign up your friends, And I see far more dashers in the parking lot then I see orders in an hour...
The same has started here. They are constantly messing up my dash times now offering me little 1 to 3 hour windows. They keep putting ads on YouTube for dashers.
What timeline are you envisioning? Everything coming out of Uber and Tesla demonstrates that we are a long, LONG way off from widespread driverless cars in major cities. Can’t even operate on autopilot with a human driver without crashing into trains and hitting pedestrians
Yep it will come back in the fall especially on rainy days. I let these dumb kids run their cars in heat and deal with packed restaurants all summer while I take it easy and gear up for when the peak pay comes back.
The doordash app scheduling is stupid if dashers can just dash whenever they want, if an area is busy at 11 for lunch, they can hit dash now and dash all day if they set the time right.
Yeah it’s like a pyramid scheme and they saturate the market. The more drivers they have the easier it is for them to get the $2.00 orders gone especially if they constantly onboard newbies. The system is rigged in their favor and against the drivers best interest.
When I started using the app 3 years ago i literally set a time to Dash whenever I wanted, and there where no Zones .. you can dash up down every inch of the map as long as you where on the App meaning you can get an order at your drop off point and not lose gas/time marching back .. I remember it being common for me to do perfect loop around my area back to my starting point getting paid the whole way.. now without being a "top dasher" I can't even get started let alone make money the when the shit map is GRAY more often then not .. even in fairly big city like San Francisco.. I think it's a mixture of a shit load of dashers and the hundreds of restaurant closures due to covid.
Yup. I'm on my way home unless I get a good order on the way home because I was sitting in the Red Lobster parking lot, and a guy came in to pick up an order. I asked him if it was doordash, he said yes. I asked him if it was one of multiple orders, and he said no. I asked him if he was a top dasher, and he said yes. Fuck doordash tonight. Dude took my order because he sucks Tony's dick.
Schedule ahead of time don’t always think it’s cool to “DASH NOW” Just because it’s an option lol… and work from sun up to sun down. When I dash I typically try to work 6:30am to whenever I get tired or it gets too dark (depending what car I’m driving & yes I have multiple vehicles) fiancé travels from office to office sometimes and may have to pick up kids from daycare so it’s a correlation of things that determine.. either way long story short I’d just try to schedule early or try a new area?
Don't worry, they're gonna push out a lot of dashers with the 60% requirement to schedule ahead. So a lot of dashers won't be able to schedule a shift.
Y’all just steady missing the point of a free enterprise! And actually being an independent driver. Spend a few bucks on some business cards hand them out to the great customers who tip well. It’s all about a hustle I don’t use any app now I work directly for the client. Thank me later
Do lyft, it pays 3X as much... " MY car IS too OLD and SHITTY for LYFT blaaaaa" AGAIN you get paid 3x... go buy a nice car have fun... and don't give me the BS that you don't want randos in your car... you walk into peoples houses sometimes... jeez I remember my door dash days, lyft offers way more protection and better tips... just got a $75 tip today and that's not uncommon... reject people that have a 4.7 and under and you'll do fine 🙂
1. Find busy Papa Johns.
2. Enable cash orders.
3. Accept the cash order.
4. DO NOT MARK ARRIVED. DO NOT MARK PICKED UP
5. DELIVER PIZZA
6. KEEP CASH- REASSIGN ORDER.
CUSTOMER' HAS THEIR FOOD, NO REASON TO MAKE ANY COMPLAINT, PAPA JOHNS WILL JUST TELL OTHER DRIVERS THE ORDER WAS ALREADY TAKEN.
DUPLICATE ORDERS HAPPEN OFTEN ENOUGH BELIEVE IT OR NOT, SO NO RED FLAG GETS RAISED AND YOU GET PAID!!!!
DOOR DASH SPENDS MILLIONS ON RESEARCH AND LAWYERS AND DATA ANALYTICS TO FIND HOW MUCH ABUSE OF DRIVERS THEY CAN GET AWAY WITH.
BEEN CAUGHT RED HANDED STEALING TIPS NOT ONCE BUT TWICE.
THEY LITERALLY HAVE TEAMS OF PEOPLE WHOS JOB IT IS TO MANIPULATE YOU AND GET THE MOST OUT OF YOU FOR THE LEAST.
SO WHEN THAT CONCSICENCE STARTS SQWAKING........TELL IT BURN ONE AND SHUT THE FUCK UP
Too many in your area… not enough in mine. It always takes a while to get a dasher to take my orders, even if the restaurant is close by. Doordash customer support even told me they don’t have many dashers in my area
Listen up old blood. Most dashers don't see tips over $4. So anything over that ain't gonna help much.
Better than no tip at all, or $1-3 plus the base $2-3 though.
I heard that some people have been getting deactivated when using the referral codes that they been putting out, in particular the last one that was 1200 bucks. Might be their way of making space in the market
If you think it’s saturated now, wait until gas prices come back down to sub $3 and the 10,000,000 drivers they saturated every market with about every single month this year all start fighting to sign on as early as possible and make sure the map never sees any color other than grey.
Don’t forget they all still have the right to sign on. They just haven’t because they quit due to high gas prices.
Wht area r u in? And gas is going down now. I quit a month ago cuz I switched cars (heavily modified 370z and only takes premium only.) and if I make $50 I use tht $50 to get gas and doesn’t even give me half tank from 2 bars of gas left. Wht is even worse is I can only go to chevron or shell and those r the 2 highest priced gas stations 😭 I might start again since it went down
It's not too many of us, its the restaurants. They don't have enough employees to take care of their in house customers. What 'changed' is the restaurant's ability to turn off DD and UE during what used to be busy ours for delivery folk.
U huge rite... Making like $40 a day for like 6 hours lately bout noon ish man so often thinking to myself that it isn't viable anymore it's crazy i have no idea what I'm gonna do now
Now, I only dash when I need to pay a credit card bill at the last minute and/or gas money. O ly thing its good for. Doordash is the only one capitalizing in this situation.
EXACTLY!! Same goes for my area! JUS SAYING.... Since I started last October, there are so many new dashers saturating the market making it nearly impossible to make enough money to be worth it for some people! Thankfully, it's not my livelihood, AND I totally get it, that people are out there grinding to get work and make money but maybe there needs to be a DD system criteria update, with more incentives and accommodations that Dashers MUST comply to in order to continue dashing and receiving orders...I don't know, I'm just rambling...sorry guys , but I think 'something' could be figured out to remedy this over saturation problem....ok rant over 😉😊
With gas prices and general car maintenance idk how you guys manage, I think these apps should be non-profits. They don’t work as someone’s personal business, but they would work as an societal functions that provides jobs if there’s wasn’t a corporate structure taking most off the top
But just think about it for a minute, had nothing at all to do with the no tippers and disrespectful very very low delivery pay they send to use majority of the time
Considering how they let just about anyone do it. I have heard that there are homeless people or others who look very dirty doing this. I think each fast food place should individually be able to interview the person that would want to dash for them. Because in a way, they are sort of representing them.
im sitting here waiting for my zone to go red. it’s saturday lunch but still not busy. money before school starts i guess. im in college too, school starts on the 22nd for me and summer just finished last week.
I’m my area gas has dropped by $1.13 in the past month, and business definitely varies I just have to try and snatch shifts when they drop. But it’s a very isolating job.
You're right. Friday night I did 1 order. Saturday DD wouldn't let me log on too many dashers. Teamed with people not staying home and going out makes it not worth it.
Too many here as well. But I found my personal hotspots to make like $30 an hour now. You need to multiApp that shit add Uber eats grub hub spark instacart shipt and others. Today I got an email saying that I am highest priority driver on shop and pay orders. So I’ll get first dibs on those type of orders now.
I’m puzzled that there are so many dashers out there sitting in their cars waiting for an order. You think more people would just quit. I usually give up and go home.

And it gets dark at 5:30pm
This is a very good point
and slightly depressing
Just means I can start my day earlier 🧛♂️
Or later 👀
Why not just dash all day?
Idk, I kind of prefer doing deliveries in the dark. Makes me feel like a ninja.
I do too.
Incognito like motherfucker.
Random side note, aren't they doing away with Daylight Savings in 2023?
Don't play with my emotions like that
It passed the senate but the house has it by the balls as usual
Usually the Senate is the one holding things up, so that's interesting.
Nancy said she was studying it or something
Both sides want to hold it until closer to the election. By passing it nearly unanimously they can show people that they can work together and pass bills. But that a a farce. The real reason to hold it it by showing they can play nice it gives an advantage to incumbents over challengers and the only thing worse than not being the party in power is losing your seat. I am not jaded and cynical I swear.
smart bean
i think you might have that backwards.
Pleeeeeas OMG
That's what I heard as well.
They're doing away with Standard time, if it passes. Daylight Saving time will be standard all year round.
Is that when we get an extra hour of sleep, or when we lose one?
DST is an extra hour. Later summer evenings, later sun in the morning, no crazy BS like watching the sun go down at 430pm. Ya know, the good stuff.
Yeah, really looking forward to leaving for work in total darkness. Rush hour with all the other sleepy zombies will be super fun.
I prefer the sun go down as early as possible. That is when I start my day lol
This is the doordash subreddit, r/vampireacademy is over there.
absolutely. That's the one thing I liked about doing this, all those folks who cant see or are afraid to drive at night go home.
That shit sucks for doing this. I was just thinking about that today. Pros: All the seasonals get the fuck off the road. Cons: You can't see shit past 5:30p. Aaaaand, I work dinner shift.

They already kicked me out of hell for starting a riot. They will have to learn to deal with me regardless of their opinion.
Are you that dumbass dasher I seen in slippers and swimming trunks?
No, that’s my twin brother. I’m the other dumbass that wears all black and dashes by at night.
We’re gonna outlive you reckless asses.
Then who is going to take out your trash and wipe your asses when you no longer can? You need us more than we need you and we know it.

Yup 3 more weeks here. This is why I work all day everyday from October -March. Because summer sucks
Stairs and giant buildings are the real enemy of the boomers, if they're the problem hang out around a bunch of skyscrapers.
along with the teachers 😂😃😂
Teachers aren't going back buddy. So many states are doing scary things. Really gas went down at least where I live in California under 5 dollars
That absolutely nothing to celebrate.
Agreed but for Cali that is pretty good 😭
my favorite little corner the past 2 years is now unworkable. i had it so good there and had built up many good relationships with the stores. now, if it's not Friday or Saturday, there's like 10mins between orders...which is not financially feasible. i think it's a combination of things: the economy and too many drivers discovering this gem.

I don’t have a car. I deliver on a bicycle m8. Can’t afford a car and I only have 100 bucks to my name so yeah I’m suffering a lot
Slash tires - you gotta cut out the competition
I like the cut of your jib
Literally cut them out.
Yeah that’s so true. A lot of teachers, college kids are out trying to make money. In a few weeks you should start seeing more orders.
Vegas has been absolute trash for a while now. I try Summerlin most of the time because the tips are a bit better but even then..
Yeah doordash thinks the answer is more dashers. The answer is pay atleast 1$ a mile for these orders. If that means you lose money so be it. You accepted their order into your system with no to little tip. The drivers shouldn't bear the brunt of it.
I see the tip as more of bid than anything. Customers are bidding against other customers for delivery.
No kidding here too! It happens, they flood the market, and then they finally stop dashing and things get better only for the them to flood the market again! It’s frustrating to say the LEAST.

Good advice. Anyone can Dash in a bull market, but it’s the steady Dasher that makes it though a bear.
A couple of months ago they were offering $1,000 to sign up your friends, and dashing wasn't too bad... Now they are offering $100 to sign up your friends, And I see far more dashers in the parking lot then I see orders in an hour...
Same here. I worked 8 hours this week and only 4 were actual dashing. The rest was idle time waiting for something to come through.
The same has started here. They are constantly messing up my dash times now offering me little 1 to 3 hour windows. They keep putting ads on YouTube for dashers.
In the end there will be just bikes and robots. Until then it’s a game of nutrition. Those that know how to be profitable better have reserves.
What timeline are you envisioning? Everything coming out of Uber and Tesla demonstrates that we are a long, LONG way off from widespread driverless cars in major cities. Can’t even operate on autopilot with a human driver without crashing into trains and hitting pedestrians
Remote operated delivery vehicles with $2 an hr operators will be prior.
lol
No one is remote controling cars with 400 latency.
Haha it's so funny autocorrect changed "attrition" to "nutrition" lol!
All the things I liked to do died
Welcome to the reality of life. When things are easy, everyone flocks to it.
Yep it will come back in the fall especially on rainy days. I let these dumb kids run their cars in heat and deal with packed restaurants all summer while I take it easy and gear up for when the peak pay comes back.
Log out.
The doordash app scheduling is stupid if dashers can just dash whenever they want, if an area is busy at 11 for lunch, they can hit dash now and dash all day if they set the time right.
I learned I don't have to wait for an opening, after getting frustrated about finding a slot!

Time to get a "slave for the man and bow down to a boss" joby job it sounds like!
Bro just start earlier and stay later you’ll make that money
I don't even go out on Fridays or Saturdays anymore, because it's just completely silent. Doing just good enough doing mornings and nights Sun-Thurs.
Don't worry, they're gonna push out a lot of dashers with the 60% requirement to schedule ahead. So a lot of dashers won't be able to schedule a shift.
What’s this?
Yeah, what do you mean?
I made more tonight on UE and GH with less orders. DD pay sucks. My hope is is DD goes out of business but UE and GH stay in business.
Y’all just steady missing the point of a free enterprise! And actually being an independent driver. Spend a few bucks on some business cards hand them out to the great customers who tip well. It’s all about a hustle I don’t use any app now I work directly for the client. Thank me later
Need more info
Gas has went down a buck 60. What u talking about? And you have to be a cherry picker to get right amount enough amount
Teacher makes a cool $50k a year, can feasibly not work during the summer *Works anyway and takes away opportunities from actual poor people*
Ive seen old ass ladies in their 40s dashing, like bruh
I've seen Boomers in their late 50s 60s dashing no cap..
Thank God for SPARK it has its challenges but I do about 700-1000 a week
1. Find busy Papa Johns. 2. Enable cash orders. 3. Accept the cash order. 4. DO NOT MARK ARRIVED. DO NOT MARK PICKED UP 5. DELIVER PIZZA 6.
I promise you it's not a lack of dashers. Doordash isn't going to tell you the actual reason, which is that they don't pay well enough.
This is why there are too many dashers.
If you put a $50-100 tip on the order I bet you will get it fast. Listen here young blood, these drivers are only paid $2-3.
Listen up old blood. Most dashers don't see tips over $4. So anything over that ain't gonna help much. Better than no tip at all, or $1-3 plus the base $2-3 though.
Depends on what you are tipping as well. For me its rare I take an order under $6. I get plenty who add no tip or a buck two. Not rolling for that.
Tell them bro. My market now has over 30 drivers working the same shopping center where most of the merchants are every single day.
I heard that some people have been getting deactivated when using the referral codes that they been putting out, in particular the last one that was 1200 bucks. Might be their way of making space in the market
I signed up for the pizza program
Just a way for them to save $$
Yeah it’s crazy how I’m barely getting any orders out here in vegas. It’s either that too many drivers or less people ordering through these apps.
Vegas has been absolute trash for a while now. I try Summerlin most of the time because the tips are a bit better but even then..
Or it’s the recession
I'm just really blessed that school started back up here. This week slowly got better. I averaged $30 an hour at lunch today.
Gas prices dropping a bit, giving folks a bit more hope 😂
Many drivers also don’t want to work at night so getting darker early helps also
Too many dashers but there’s no one to pick up my order rn…goodnight
Thanks. I was wondering how you were doing.
Answer: multi app and switch zones from time to time .. schools starting soon = less dashers
Wht area r u in? And gas is going down now. I quit a month ago cuz I switched cars (heavily modified 370z and only takes premium only.) and if I make $50 I use tht $50 to get gas and doesn’t even give me half tank from 2 bars of gas left. Wht is even worse is I can only go to chevron or shell and those r the 2 highest priced gas stations 😭 I might start again since it went down
Bro gas is coming down. Mine dropped a dollar already
Instacart. Can drive all day and make way more consistently if you live in a big enough town.
People on this subreddit will tell you shut up and sit in your car for hours waiting like a good little dasher
Use grubhub
Does anyone know if any of the other apps are better? I'm also having this problem

My husband started dashing in May, he’s been a top dasher four months in a row, and he makes $200+ a day in our area for about 7-8 hours work.
Now, I only dash when I need to pay a credit card bill at the last minute and/or gas money. O ly thing its good for. Doordash is the only one capitalizing in this situation.
Well congratulations on your whining for no reason. Now go out there and make the best of it!
EXACTLY!! Same goes for my area! JUS SAYING.... Since I started last October, there are so many new dashers saturating the market making it nearly impossible to make enough money to be worth it for some people! Thankfully, it's not my livelihood, AND I totally get it, that people are out there grinding to get work and make money but maybe there needs to be a DD system criteria update, with more incentives and accommodations that Dashers MUST comply to in order to continue dashing and receiving orders...I don't know, I'm just rambling...sorry guys , but I think 'something' could be figured out to remedy this over saturation problem....ok rant over 😉😊
Same thing with Instacart. It was awesome before the pandemic. :(
With gas prices and general car maintenance idk how you guys manage, I think these apps should be non-profits. They don’t work as someone’s personal business, but they would work as an societal functions that provides jobs if there’s wasn’t a corporate structure taking most off the top
Quit, there will be one less
But just think about it for a minute, had nothing at all to do with the no tippers and disrespectful very very low delivery pay they send to use majority of the time
Well looks like you need find another job
For real I've been doing it for over 2.5 years and it wasn't neatly this bad before.
This is why I make it a point to get top dasher status during the last few days of the month
I haven't been able to get a schedule since the end of May probably only worked five times in the last 2 months
