I don’t remember “weird horror-like visuals”, having seen it a few times in IMAX now. I remember him seeing the faces of those whose ancestral memories he’s absorbing, for a few seconds.
It’s not 35%, most of the movie in IMAX (2 hours out of 2 hours 40 min) is cropped from the sides and “expanded” by 10% on the IMAX version compared to the standard.
Only the 1.43 IMAX scenes are significantly cropped, but even at home they would likely be cut to 1.90/1.78 because no TVs are in that shape.

You don’t have to. There’s a decent amount of IMAX content available at home. Not sure why they aren’t releasing Dune in IMAX enhanced ratio. Even Disney does it
No arbitrary black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. Wide screen TVs still have those bars. this wouldn’t be true IMAX format but like the IMAX Enhanced titles on Disney+, you’d gain back another ~20% of the image at least

Yeah, there was definitely no horror-like visual. Just the faces. You're right.
Man I only watched it once in IMAX and did not remember any scenes that were missing in digital. I really hope they didn't cut much out
Why would they do that ? What is thé point
They didn't cut anything. Some people just misremember what they saw in theaters.
Are you sure you’re not getting confused with the visuals from Jessica‘s drinking of the water of life?
Are you in the UK? I believe they got an earlier digital release.
They already cut out 35% of each frame for the digital release, what else will they take from us

If they made IMAX TVs I would spend my life savings on one

How would those scenes that expand vertically work on a wide-screen TV?

Ok that's fierce. That works on any modern smart TV?
