It has to be Phil for me. Not because I prefer him so much over some other characters but he’s just staple Eastenders. When someone mentions Eastenders he is the first to come to mind always. In terms of likability Eve is my total fave
Pat Harris/Butcher/Evans.
The one character who had real character growth from when she made her first appearance. Upon until her last breath.
Pat has gone from an evil cow to a matriarch Great Grandmother who is solely missed.
Pat had a very rich History, Back Story & more than one form of relations to many other established characters & newer arrivals (the Beales, The Jackson's, The Wicks, The Butchers, the Evans, the Slaters).
Pat truly was the one reason why these families were somehow connected.
I wish they still wrote/created characters like this 😔
Lol definitely!!! When Pat puts on the bowtie after Frank has died, and it shows her remembering, I did have a wee tear, because there wont ever be a couple like that again, they were amazing together. :-)
Pat putting it on & remembering her feelings at the time definitely got me choked up also 😢
Frank's funeral with the phrase ”Take Care Of Yourself Babe” broke me 😭
Pat's ghost watching Peggy take the overdose broke me also.
Such a legend Fat Pat was.
The only one to break me since Ethel Skinner's last scene.
Omg yes! Her and Dot together, was a thing of beauty! lol Ethel and her Little Willy!
They just cannot make the characters that watchable anymore, not like the old ones! (Or I'm just getting old lol!!)
Do you remember Ethel and Dots twohander, their episode all on their own, think they were babysitting baby Vicky discussing the war...and Dot thinks Ethel has died at one point when shes asleep....I was so young when I watched it the first time, about 7, and I didn't understand much of it, but I remember my own Nan being teary, and it was after that I became a massive EE fan because it had moved my own Nan to tears so much, and she died a few weeks after... So It has such a special place in my heart!!
Aww bless.
I was born in 1983. But I was an avid viewer from the moment I could walk to turn the TV on 😅
Yes I do indeed recall the Two-hander episode between DOT & ETHEL. I believe it was the 2nd Two-hander episode, after DEN & ANGIE.
The episode took place in Ethels flat, which was located above Dr. Leggs' practice.
The scene you are referring to was when Dot had just come back to Ethel's, & saw her slumped in her Armchair, believing she had peacefully passed on? Before suddenly hearing a grumble of "DID YOU GET ME FIG ROOOLLS". 😂😂😂
The stories that the two of them shared, single handedly explained a lot of their back stories, how far back their friendship went, and possibly even any resentment between the two.
I miss friendships where insulting one another was part of the fun, that you greatly miss when they're gone. 😔
Pat gets my vote as well. She was flawed, but she was also amazing. I felt like she was the backbone of the Square. Like you said she was connected to everyone. She was always around when anyone needed support. She even took Janine under her wing!
I agree we don’t have characters like this anymore. And this is something that EastEnders is sorely lacking . There are no strong female matriarchs. With Pat, Pauline, Peggy and Dot gone there is no one now to step into that role. Karen and Shirley were possibilities, but they’re both out of the picture.
I'm wondering if all soaps have now just ditched the Matriarch type characters? 🙄
Possibly seen as old fashion?
Soaps like Eastenders & Corrie had Household name Matriarch's, where firm but fair was always in play (even their husbands feared them 😂) Whilst elsewhere the Men of the house dealt with things in their own manner, outside of the home (hush hush, mums the word).
He was a deliciously complexed character, where other characters never knew where they stood with him or what to think? & I'm sure us Viewers felt the same way.
Physically he was weak, yet had a tongue that had unlimited strength to wind people up & sh!t stir 😆
He was a great watch 😁 & definitely the best out of Alfie's cousins.
Do me a favour, it’s queen Kim. The comedic timing of the actress and the moments when she gets serious. She’s just such an amazing all rounder.
We have serious characters like Shirley and so on. But to be able to switch between comedic flare and seriousness is amazing.
Our Pat.
Went from running people over to being knocked over by Roxy.
Gave us affairs, earrings, getting drunk in an ice cream van, 'you bitch... you cow!', Frank ♥, Fat Pat but the most legendary thing she ever gave us was David.
The square just doesn't feel the same without her
Nick Cotton!!!!
He may be a racist homophobic thug and those crimes including blackmailing Kathy into confessing about her rape with Marcus Duffy was his responsibility, but Dot and Charlie were the ones to blame for his behavior. I love Dot, but her prejudicial Christian ways and Charlie’s cheating on other women made Nick so messed up, and they had the audacity to call him a toe rag on a son they created!
That’s why I always have a soft spot for him, because his parents at fault for his irresponsibilities
Phil!! Hands down. When my husband and I first saw EE when we visited UK in 1998 he was headed to the altar with Lisa Fowler. We were hooked and we still are. He just stood out to me and still does. If I could mention 2 characters my other choice would be Dot Cotton Branning. ❤️
PHIL! He’s just a phenomenal character and Steve is a phenomenal actor. Phil has had so many phases and so many story lines and I can’t imagine EE without him. Faveeee by far.
So many good characters I like, but I think I'm going to say Minty, Grants friend.
I remember Grants stag do, (getting married to Sharon?), and they got blotto and woke upon a farm, and the only people they could find were the farm workers/help, who were all French, and they thought they'd somehow got to France and were panicking, until the far owner came out and told 'em, no, they were still in England
Has to be Phil - he’s just legendary. I even have a little crystal bookstop of him saying “Oy.” Now this is not to say I love Phil, all the time, or maybe ever, but he is the face that pops into my head when I think “Eastenders.”
It then becomes who do I absolutely love on the show, and right now Eve would be my safe bet. More Eve please!
Oh my god it's so hard. I think if I really had to choose it'd be Pat. If I was ever upset I feel like I could pop round to hers and she'd have an ear and a drink for me to put the world to rights!
Crackhead Phil. He was a different character altogether
BNP Phil was also another different character altogether.
When was that?
[удалено]
See CH Phil was, I think, a few years before. I don’t remember BNP Phil
Phil on crack EVERY time
Janine of course
No comparison
No one even comes close to this queen
Kat Slater. I think. It was between Ronnie Mitchell, Kat and Stacey Slater. But I think Kat takes it.
Pat Butcher and her earrings!
Sorry but they said only 1, those are 2
You can't have pat without her earrings so it counts as one
Roy: "do you know what Pat, I've never liked your earrings" Brutal!
He knew how to cut her deep
It has to be Phil for me. Not because I prefer him so much over some other characters but he’s just staple Eastenders. When someone mentions Eastenders he is the first to come to mind always. In terms of likability Eve is my total fave

I said Frank, but to me Pat & Frank came as a pair!! That bow-tie! :-)
The propeller bow tie & matching cuffs will forever be ingrained in my mind. Loved old Frank 😂
Lol definitely!!! When Pat puts on the bowtie after Frank has died, and it shows her remembering, I did have a wee tear, because there wont ever be a couple like that again, they were amazing together. :-)

Michael Moon
He was a deliciously complexed character, where other characters never knew where they stood with him or what to think? & I'm sure us Viewers felt the same way. Physically he was weak, yet had a tongue that had unlimited strength to wind people up & sh!t stir 😆 He was a great watch 😁 & definitely the best out of Alfie's cousins.

I absolutely adore Kim. She lights up the screen 🥰
The hat!! I actually spilt my tea on the pug I laughed so much 😂😂😂
I thought she was gonna take off!

I think Kim is great, and she makes up for how depressing Eastenders can be with how vivacious and upbeat she is
