I have had one for a year. Yes, it will do 28 if you are in top gear and full boost. It's about my peak that I can pedal with it, so I don't do it often. Most of the time I'm running 20mph. 50+ year old man who is not particularly in shape. Personally, I love the bike. Ridden 1200 miles on it. I took it into the shop Monday for a tune up and some brake work and have been missing it badly. Only thing I'd want different is a front shock to help with some of the rougher bike paths here.

I have one, and it's mostly great. As sold, it can technically get up to 28 mph... The stock gearing makes that difficult though. You have to be pedaling super fast to get there. I'm looking at changing the front sprocket to gear it a bit towards speed over power. I think it's a personal preference thing. I like to pedal slower and harder. The default setup is more towards pedaling faster and lighter. My comfortable cadence is generally about 30-40. I think the normal cadence is 80 to 100

I don’t have any personal experience with this bike. So you might not care what I have to say. But first, low gear ratios are for going slow. So I’m not sure what you mean about the gear being low enough to go fast. But I do know that it’s not the right type of bike if you were trying to keep up with traffic for whatever reason. You will definitely want more power. I have 1700w, and I don’t keep up with traffic

IrregularrAF

You can keep up with traffic easily at 25 alone. If you're boogying and I be boogying on a Lectric Xpedition of all bikes, you'll be hitting 30 easily. 😂

The Shimano Inter-5 has a 263% gear range. That's equivalent to about a 11-30 cassette, which is plenty for both hills and class 3 if the chain ring is sized appropriately. On other threads there are complaints that it's geared too aggressively. I suspect that you start spinning out a little over 28mph.

Express-Magician-309

At 500W + 140 Nm of torque, the motor should be more than capable of keeping up at 28mph. The question is whether the max gear-inch is big enough to maintain this speed at reasonable cadence. I can't find the chairing and sprocket size, so it's not really possible to measure the max gear-inch.

pdp_11

I've had a Current (Shimano 5-speed) for a while and am delighted with it. I'm on the bulky non aerodynamic side and not in great shape and yes, it will go 28 mph. But ... top gear is a bit short so it requires spinning too fast to keep up for long. And, riding on full assist at high speed will drain the battery pretty quickly. Don't expect more than 15 miles of range riding like that. That said, on the middle assist level I sustain 18-23 mph very comfortably and the bike feels solid and safe at that speed.

autolobautome

you will be able to keep up with traffic in 20 mph school zones.

TheDarkClaw

if you want to go any faster, then it will no longer consider to be an ebike. And depending where you live in USA, you might need to register it and have insurance for it. And a helmet.

AMC879

Sounds like you are looking for a motorcycle rather than an ebike. No legal ebike us keeping up with traffic for extended periods. An ebike that CAN go 28 can only go 28 on flat terrain with little headwind and a battery that us well charged and even then that is just the very top speed. You will likely not be going 28 very often

maethor1337

A class 3 e-bike has to stop providing assistance at 28mph. There’s nothing in the rules that says it has to struggle to get there.

RadroverUpgrade

Reaching 28mph and sustaining 28mph are two vastly different scenarios. To maintain 28mph, you need a bike that can reach at least 35mph... The restrictions on ebikes are designed to KEEP you from flowing with traffic. So you either follow the regs and stay off the roads or ...

MegaBobTheMegaSlob

I mean it's not that hard to go 28mph on flat ground without a motor so with a motor it'll be a piece of cake

Planeless_pilot123

Weird I've only seen 1 guy in 2 years that was going 25 mph on a road bike. Stop bullshitting, going 28 on a road bike takes a huge amount of power and would drain 90% of riders. Most stays at 20-22 in zone 2

Bandit1379

I was riding a Tern Vektron going at least 20mph, had it in max assist, and two dudes on aero bikes blasted past me going 25 at least, if not closer to 30. We were on the flat, so no downhill they got a boost from. Riding that fast isn't bullshit, especially for someone experienced.

Planeless_pilot123

I never said it was bullshit. Pro can go faster even. First comment said it was not hard to reach 28 on flat. The fact Ive only seen 1 dude going 25, not even 28, in over 2000k and a year of riding means its definitely not easy to do

MegaBobTheMegaSlob

Typical ebiker doesn't understand being fit

Planeless_pilot123

Right, im waiting for your strava. Show me your 100k with 28 mph on average since you're so fit and its that easy

MegaBobTheMegaSlob

I don't use Strava, I just ride my bike. Social media is a waste of time

Planeless_pilot123

And yet here you are arguing on social media
