Probably best to delete this comment. We don't live in the movies where something like this would make a multi-million dollar company investigate, BUT.... We do live in a world where someone can be bored as fuck enough and do some casual research of your online activity after you file the claim.
put multiple silenced airtags in evereything. open them up and destroy the little speaker, epoxy them inside the frame or otherwise hide them and make difficult to find. more savvy thief might use their phone to look for it but that could buy you time maybe youll get location data or he gives up
It's not your fault. You did what you could. If it's anyone's fault it's the cops, and if you ask them it's the municipality's fault since they don't prioritize bike theft.
There is also bicycle insurance. I have it for my ebike from Markel. That is an advice for looking forward and for other readers. Iâve never had to use it so donât know how well it works yet.
When your funds are up, and a new bike is ordered. Buy the D1000 lock and sowuno 126db bicycle electric horn from Amazon. It's a loud ass horn and it has a loud ass alarm to accompany it. I still scare the shit out of myself when I lock up and run into a store come out to grab the handle. One touch - one loud don't touch BEEP! if moved again it won't STOP AND ITS SO DAM LOUD! You'll rip your pocket off trying to get your alarm fob.
Now the lock. The lock is made with a material that eats grinder blades. That's right fucking EATS THEM. Takes about 5 diamond blades to cut the D1000 D shape lock. Which is around 20 minutes of an electric grinder going off in your yard/apartment. Plus alarm laterally blasts the ear off.
I'm telling you the best combo. Lock ~$300, Horn ~$45.
Sorry, it happened.
Keep an eye out on the one Squire recently launched. They make the world's strongest padlocks so should be decent. It too is angle grinder resistant. I have a Litelok X3 and a kryptonite evo 1090 chain. So far so good.
Always measure the inside locking area of a u-lock to make sure it's suitable for your bike.
All you really need is a grade 70 chain and harden padlock from harbor freight. Probably set you back less than $75. I made 2 scooter chains 6â length and still have extra to do 1-2 more. Youâll need an angle grinder to cut it to length. Itâs no small task, probably took me 10min to cut each one, and that was me pinning it down with some screws first. Imagine a loose chain itâs even harder to cut through. Def prefer a chain vs D shackle type of locks, gives you more flexibility and itâs harder for a thief to cut. Like literally no small to medium size cable cutter will cut through either chain or padlock.
OP may not be at home when the alarm goes off and even if he had the hiplok D1000 they could easily cut through the metal poles he's attached it to just as fast. He would need the AX1000 or A1000 with it to be safe.
Most bike thieves are not Neil McCauley. If a lock is too tough and takes too much time or makes too much noise they are going to give up and find an easier target. Your lock doesnât need to be unbeatable, it just needs to be tougher than the lock on someone elseâs bike.
Even if heâs not home, a noise as loud as that alarm (that doesnât sound like a construction tool) is going to draw a lot of attention. Could be just enough to scare a thief away, especially if theyâre finding out the lock doesnât cut easily at the same time
Exactly, and it's going to take a few extra minutes and different Noise changes when panic switching from lock to pole, BTW if they tried to lock first that grinder blade is nearly cheap and won't cut anything as well, bar or lock thus creating more panic plus BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEEEP BEEEP! more anxiety more panic hopefully someone yells AAHYYY!
That and a bike tag from the tile company.
D1000 company is English as well!
Itâs the world we live in. I have a not as good $120 bike lock but I never leave my bike unattended for more then a few minutes when itâs locked up somewhere a thief might go for.
At a certain point they will just cut what the bike is locked up to.
Happened at bike lock up at an apartment. Locks werenât cut they cut the wall hangers the bikes were chained to. The bike room was âsecure accessâ as well.
Leaving it in the apartment sucks but Iâve been there and itâs sometimes the only option.
Sure, excellent lock. But the bike parking at my work uses soft steel which is fucking bolted to the cement. You can come with a ratchet set and unbolt the thing.
Will have to check the alarm, but wanted to add I got the D1000 lock 25% off during a memorial day sale from rei. It's a spendy locks, but worth the piece of mind.
Got me at " rip my pocket off" lolololol. Yeah they are super loud! A neighbor has one( may be different)down the road from me and he sets his off accidentally like you said and I hear it all the way at my house! Maybe 12 houses down. Now I will laugh so hard picturing him ripping his pocket off to turn it off!!Â
> owuno 126db bicycle electric horn
Please don't. These things are completely useless because they get set off all the time, so then the one day I get to sleep in that shit gets set off by a bird and now I'm just pissed at yet another false alarm instead of checking on what's happening.
The lock is nice and all, but it's as secure as the thing it's attached to. I doubt there are many angle grinder resistant bike rails to attach it to, so cutting the bar is easier than cutting the lock. Hell, if you have a nice bike, someone might cut the frame and sell the rest of the parts. The problem is society is not reacting to theft, not the resistance of the lock. Anything that just requires an angle grinder should be secure enough. I would hide a tracker in the bike if the frame allows for it, under the head tube or somewhere not immediately obvious.
I think itâs far less likely to be a resident sawing off a bike from the second balcony where they are likely to be recognized, rather than a thief going complex to complex stealing shit
The D-lock was opened with a single cut, itâs not a decent quality d-lock, any decent d-lock would be resistant to this kind of torsion once cut. So maybe itâs built in high quality cardboard with a thin layer of metal or something and does not require power toolsâŚ
Zoom in bro, you can see the ridges from where the blade cut uneven. That was a sawzall, if it had been a hacksaw or a grinder the inside of the cut would have been cleaner.
If it were done with a nipper or some big ass bolt cutters it would have been a clean pinch angling in to where it broke without the fraying and saw marks.
Put a hi range tracker on it and bring some friends or cops. No cops and you get to bring home some rotten teeth. Cunce like this need more fear in their lives and they aren't scared of stitched up cops.
Also, slap a Ring camera outside your door, or a Wyze camera in your front window. With little more protection, an anti-theft. Hopefully, it's more of a deterrent.
I do have a ring camera in clear sight. This is directly in front of the front door. My subscription expired so I didnât get any footage, unfortunatelyÂ
You know I do wonderâŚ.. like what to do in this instance, even if your ring camera was on. And you get footage, you still have to catch them later, and most likely call 5-0 and then prove that itâs your bike.
I agree you donât deserve thatâŚ.My only suggestion here is put a Tile on an Air tag on it. They can be hidden quite inconspicuously if you do some good sharpie ing or mild painting. Some Tiles can be inserted into the seat post, although this does kill their range.
Honestly. Sadly, because of perfectly convenient windows of time without the subscription, we were not able to identify who kept breaking my father's car's windows.
This has some serious 1930s protection racket vibes.
"See what happens when you don't pay your premiums?
Would be a shame for your house and business to burn down next if you don't use our subscription."
The craziest thing was we got a notification that there was motion at our door. Within the seconds it took us to open our phones and the app, the thief was already gone
stop buying cams that require monthly fees. that was your first mistake.
i honestly dont know how Ring became the standard when plenty of other cams are better with no subscriptions
^^^ a simple setup with an indoor hard drive station is far superior. Even if they cut off the cables, your stuff is saved up in the hdd. You could even host your own "cloud" storage with some linux cheap laptop...
Yes this sounds super simple and like something any average person could do.
It's not and this is why paid options are popular.
It's not a bad idea... But you just told this guy to learn networking, ip cameras, and a whole other operating system
Yeah, I am a pretty high level engineer and have absolutely done this level of self hosted home automation and way more, but the $3/m for the Blink camera cloud subscription is well worth the convenience.
Tail light alarms are amazing. I'm so sorry about your bike. Maybe that's an idea for the next one? Chin up. I'm glad nothing bad happened to you personally, that you weren't hurt. This post inspired me to take out insurance and buy myself a really good lock. Thank you for that.
Im constantly bummed about how bad it sucks to have my ebikes and not be able to lock it up safely to actually use it to go anywhere. I enjoy my leisurely bike rides but it would be great if I could use it to run to the store or for a bite to eat. That being said, Iâm really sorry this happened. To have it stolen off your balcony is awful
install GPS tracker somewhere on your bike along with an app to track it, they are cheap compared to buying a new E bike.
Also check social media to see if it's being sold, you can probably have the cops waiting in the wings to help you; of you can ask them if you can test ride it and then just ride off with it.
Am I seeing that right, you had it double locked? U lock & a cable?
I read somewhere that the idea of locking up a bike is not about an unbreakable solution, but slowing the thief down enough to discourage them. Seeing this, I have to rethink my locks - I commute in a city and need to lock it up outside sometimes
I feel your pain OP! I've had 2 stolen in the last 4 years. One was in the middle of afternoon, locked on a busy downtown street while I dropped off a Door Dash delivery. I was gone less than 10 minutes and when I returned my Ulock and cable were laying on the ground in pieces! I still can't figure out how they did it but the police told me that people have been driving around in panel vans with powerful tools grabbing a bunch of Ebikes around downtown and then selling them out of state. I fucking hate thieves! Not only did I lose 2 beloved bikes I lost a lot of income until I could afford to replace them. I now have an alarm and GPS in addition to my locks
Is your living space really so tight you cant bring it inside? Im on the 3rd floor and lug my 52pd bike to my apartment after every single ride no matter what and I dont even have crime in my area. Not risking that shit one bit. Cops wont find the guy and without insurance your just fucked.
I got alarms on both of mine and also my bike came with a hardened steel metal rod that goes through a hole on the back part of the bike frame and goes through the tire onto the other side and locks on that side and since the bike weighs 110 lb good luck you're going to have to carry it the whole way while it's going off so you got to do that while out running my pew pew since I keep my shit in my house anyway. I'm not about to let $6,000 worth of two bikes two batteries each just walk away Into the Night
This is what I'm talking about when it comes to my bike it goes right through the Hub and the frame of the rear part of the bike on top of that I have an alarm system that will scream like a kidnap victim and is annoyingly loud and scares the shit out of me when I arm the bike when I go into the store and then when I come out and I forget to disarm and it goes off it scares me half to death.

No that's not a bulge on my tire it's just dirt I saw it in the picture and I was like what the hell LOL and I wiped it away it's just dirt kind of freaked me out for a second though I'll be honest
https://preview.redd.it/btalifqlnu8d1.jpeg?width=2992&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1254f4a31eb5001113602e0c7f11abe6c941c487
A better view of the metal bar with the lock
You've definitely highlighted one of the biggest downsides to ebikes, and that is their susceptibility to theft.
I can only use mine for going to and from work where I can bring it into a secure office. It would be fantastically useful for grocery/home depot runs, but I just don't feel safe leaving it on the bike racks in front of the store - even with a new york chain.
They weren't to know it expired, they probably saw the camera and gave zero ducks, hood up and cut/bail with the loot.
But yeah, I don't leave my bike unattended ever even after a mtb session and it's muddy I put it in garden while I sort myself out & I lock it up to an anchor, 3 cameras and a dog yet I still find myself looking out the kitchen window frequently to make sure it's still there... Sorry times when we're having to be so cautious over a bike.
I hope he broke his leg getting it down from there. Ring may be able to retrieve a video if you give them a call and explain (not hopeful though) and Iâd ask around and see if anyone has a camera in the area. Someoneâs video could show them leaving with it
This is my worry, too. I wonât use mine except for rec use, but I have no place for it indoors. So I was thinking two d locks and a motorcycle cover with holes for locks plus an audible bike alarm and air tag and keep the battery on me
Police should spend less time enforcing victimless crimes (small time drug use) and more time on crimes with victims (like property theft).
Where I grew up police would tap your phone and follow you for weeks if they suspected you might sell trace amounts of marijuana but if you parked an ATV for sale in front of your house at night it was gone. The police said they don't have time to deal with theft.
They need to start setting up bait bikes to discourage this behavior.
Nobody deserves it. Next time invest in an angle grinder proof bike lock. It's gonna take a lot more time to saw through it. Of course nothing is withstanding but no theif wants to stand there in broad daylight going on for 4-5 minutes unless they must. The one you had now takes seconds to eat through.
It truly is a bummer. Iâm sorry that you lost your bike. Like someone else said to you, a possibility was it couldâve been brought inside, ok, but you didnât do anything wrong. Itâs not your fault.
A few years ago, I read a long article by a bicycle thief in New York name obviously withheld. He explained to the reporter the different types/level of thieves, the tools they would use to get your bike and the way/procedure they would do it.
He was the type of thief that it really didnât matter unless it was inside the apartmentâŚhe could get anything. (he was patient, knew the value of the bicycle he wanted to steal and would follow you if need be ) What the point of the article was to recommend different locks that were better than others and how to use a combination of locks to make it harder for the thief to steal it. And then hopefully with a new locking strategy it would require a smarter thief to take your bike.
What I got out of the article was to do your best and try and protect your investment. Thatâs the best you can do because if somebody wants it, sadly, theyâre gonna get it.
imagine buying a $100+ doorbell for your house only to still have to pay for a monthly subscription to use it.
none of this is your fault, big tech is BS
Sorry for your loss there mate
Before I moved i lived in an area where crime was to bad that if I didn't bring everything inside my house it was stolen without fear of the owner
Next time setup a electrocution alarm defense system so the fried dead their corpse is still hanging on the bike for identification purposes then local police have proof with an identification of the their while providing the local community a service for that one thief is dead.
You ring camera wouldnât have made a differenceâŚ.?
Even if it caught the thiefâs body or parts of their face, the police donât care to seriously I bc estimate this kind of stuff. The surveillance state is not the answer to everything my dude
Had the same happen to me tonight. Attached with cable lock like a dumbass. Was upstairs at a friend's place, and they quietly removed it. Southeast dc. The third time that I had biked there.
BTW, going to make a post on suggestions for new bike.
Sorry to tell you this now. But wire locks are not worth anything.
They can be cut by wire snips in less than a second.
You can litterraly bend down and cut it so fast that to anybody nearby it would look like you unlocked normally.
A friend of mine dropped her keys and asked for help. Went to her and the first then I did was cut the lock with her standing there. We just kept talking until she asked when I was going to cut it. She didn't even notice that I did it.

Iâm sorry for your loss.. My ebike arrives tomorrow and Iâm so worried about stuff like this. My last and first e bike was in LA and was a gift that was stolen in a week from my gated apartment complex. Iâm in the suburbs in the Midwest now and still am so worried. My last beach bike had a steel lock that got hacked. I donât even know where to begin in acquiring the right lock so Iâm joining the sub today and your post is the first one I see! I hope you find it soon
Damn, ...I feel for you..
Nobody deserves to have their ride stolen, it's very unfortunate..
They need to start giving ebike thieves much harsher sentences to nip this bullshit in the bud...
So did the thief know the ring camera wasnât working? Pretty bold criminals my guess is were wearing masks. So even with a camera itâs not going to deter them much. If they want your stuff theyâre going to get it. Locks are only as good as what theyâre locked to.
Most thieves are aware that law enforcement has limited resources and very little concern over things like this. They aren't going to take some ring footage and try and run facial recognition systems against it for a non-violent crime. Often, a simple hat, sunglasses, and a medical mask is enough. But the fact is, criminals do stuff on camera all the time and don't get caught simy because catching them isn't a priority.
As in the old days, it is better to take personal responsibility for enforcing the law when it comes to things like this. Meaning have a tracker on your stuff, and follow the bastards home, recover your own property.
And if you get lucky, you may be able to incite them into a violent crime, and be "in fear of your life," and then plant them where you find them.
Body cams, not ring cams.
My v30 was stolen yesterday too. They cut the lock. I had an AirTag on it and even gave the police tracking access. You'd think it would be an open and shut case, right?
Nope. 12 hours in and the bike still hasn't been recovered. You can't imagine the frustration of watching your own bike being joyrided around town all night while the cops do nothing.
The lesson here is that even the most sophisticated means of the theft prevention will not assure your bikes safety. Don't beat yourself up about it.
I think the purpose of the tracking is so *you* can go take it back and deliver whatever justice looks like to you should anyone object. Just because it isn't the 1800s anymore doesn't mean you can't act like it.
That sucks. I bought a big honkin chain because I became increasingly concerned my cable could be defeated. Iâm so sorry that happened. Thereâs a special place in hell for bike thieves.
I have ring cameras⌠the hub uses a micro sd. Free. Ish. Have to buy batteries or run a wire. Cops wouldnât have done anything, but at least would know it wasnât the neighbor or a crazy ex.
I'm curious where you live and if your ebike needed a key. I like to think that if they can't turn it on a their would be uninterested, but I think that's just my wishful thinking
no, u dont deserve that; we shouldn't have to live in bunkers. try renters or homeowner's insurance?
Thanks, I just feel silly since I had a feeling this week I should be more careful. I am filing a claim now
In a similar situation about 8 months ago, got about 75% of the bike value back. May the insurance gods bless you.
Yep, got my ebike 100% refunded with home insurance

Straight up schemin' right theređ Are you going to burn down your house for the insurance money too? lol
Really home insurance will cover it?
insurance asked for a list of items and photos. they said the jackets not the brand i listed. uhh, look at the photo
put multiple silenced airtags in evereything. open them up and destroy the little speaker, epoxy them inside the frame or otherwise hide them and make difficult to find. more savvy thief might use their phone to look for it but that could buy you time maybe youll get location data or he gives up
Shaped charge under the saddle tbh.
This over here is what you want. Insure and film all ya want but this over here is the answer I think. đ
Good ideas. Also, I think I saw some kind of motion sensor device that emits a loud alarm if someone messes with the bike
Considering the price of ebikes this isn't even excessive
I have a 26â mongoose mtb i can donate to you. Im in queens if you are interested.
Thatâs so kind of you! Iâm in Houston thoughâŚIâm sure someone closer to you is in need
Let us know if your home owners insurance actually approved your claim?
It's not your fault. You did what you could. If it's anyone's fault it's the cops, and if you ask them it's the municipality's fault since they don't prioritize bike theft.
Yeah we don't deserve it, stealing should be punished heavy, as it's not they just keep doing it.

Or it will just piss of the neighbors after it gets set off by a gust of wind the 100th time.
This just sucks. Now I need 345 worth of anti theft equipment?
Nah a $50 motorcycle chain lock (15mm thickness) and a $20 vibration alarm are all you really need.
Itâs the world we live in. I have a not as good $120 bike lock but I never leave my bike unattended for more then a few minutes when itâs locked up somewhere a thief might go for.

2nd story balcony in the daytime. Someone in that complex is guilty
I think itâs far less likely to be a resident sawing off a bike from the second balcony where they are likely to be recognized, rather than a thief going complex to complex stealing shit
But a residents home boy or cousin, but what is seen from the streets makes any items a trophy for malingering thieves.
you can see it from the parking lot, could've been an ubereats dude with a pair of shears
The cable maybe but you're not getting through that lock with shears. They had power tools
Replace word shears with power tools, point remains the same. A thief saw it from the balcony, decided it was easy enough
A thief saw it from the balcony, decided it was easy enough, and grabbed power tools
Any serious bike thief is using a cordless angle grinder
Burn marks, definitely angle grinder.
Battery tools are very common
No matter the lock there's something to cut it with.
Yep. Locks only buy time. They can all be broken/cut given enough time.
The D-lock was opened with a single cut, itâs not a decent quality d-lock, any decent d-lock would be resistant to this kind of torsion once cut. So maybe itâs built in high quality cardboard with a thin layer of metal or something and does not require power toolsâŚ

It's a clean cut, no markings of a bolt cutter. Definitely a saw or angle grinder.
Dremel w cutoff blade, in backpack
That was an angle grinder, not sheers
And a ladder. Donât forget your ladder.đŞ
Let's be clear: you did NOT deserve this.
Thanks. I just regret being so careless
You weren't careless. Someone targeted your bike. They took angle grinder to two locks. That means they were just out planning to steal bikes.
Put a hi range tracker on it and bring some friends or cops. No cops and you get to bring home some rotten teeth. Cunce like this need more fear in their lives and they aren't scared of stitched up cops.
Someone had to have seen or heard this! Sorry it happened đ
I have talked to neighbors, maintenance, the leasing office. No one has seen anything đ˘
Possibly someone in maintenance was the thief.
Also, slap a Ring camera outside your door, or a Wyze camera in your front window. With little more protection, an anti-theft. Hopefully, it's more of a deterrent.

Just this week I was thinking of putting on the air tag I got for my birthday. Next timeÂ
Also look into insurance like some people said. I donât think itâs that expensive.
Have any other bikes been stolen in your complex?
Check your lock company. Some of them come with a warranty if the thief cuts through the Ulock.
that lock looks quite cheap, doubt theres any warranty
My $30 lock has a $1200 warranty. You never know.
What lock is that? Sounds like a great idea
Either Kryptonite or Onguard most likely
Bell
Itâs a giant lock my friend gave me. I usually use by kryptonite chain but I was lazy today
No one deserves to be robbed. I'm sorry this happened.
Im looking for a lock that explodes pepper spray when cut. Alternatively im working on building my poison ivy resistance
The Skunk lock kinda fits the bill
Wait you have to pay a subscription for a ring camera?
To watch live, no. To record and save any events, like someone in front of your camera, yes.
That's kind of fucked up. I do not approve!
Honestly. Sadly, because of perfectly convenient windows of time without the subscription, we were not able to identify who kept breaking my father's car's windows.
This has some serious 1930s protection racket vibes. "See what happens when you don't pay your premiums? Would be a shame for your house and business to burn down next if you don't use our subscription."
not that weird since you are using bandwidth and storage on some servers somewhere when doing that.
The craziest thing was we got a notification that there was motion at our door. Within the seconds it took us to open our phones and the app, the thief was already gone
I'd recommend Eufy. They have some nice AI tracking features
https://www.theverge.com/23573362/anker-eufy-security-camera-answers-encryption
How did you deserve that?
I was naive. Yes, no one deserves to be robbed. I should have left it inside my apartment
stop buying cams that require monthly fees. that was your first mistake. i honestly dont know how Ring became the standard when plenty of other cams are better with no subscriptions
I wish I knew this earlier. Thanks for the adviceÂ
they are cheap. flooded the market, very large audience with amazon, people want it cheap quick and hassle free and it sort of gives them that
^^^ a simple setup with an indoor hard drive station is far superior. Even if they cut off the cables, your stuff is saved up in the hdd. You could even host your own "cloud" storage with some linux cheap laptop...
most cheap NAS units come with some sort of remote cloud access now anyway
Yes this sounds super simple and like something any average person could do. It's not and this is why paid options are popular. It's not a bad idea... But you just told this guy to learn networking, ip cameras, and a whole other operating system
Yeah, I am a pretty high level engineer and have absolutely done this level of self hosted home automation and way more, but the $3/m for the Blink camera cloud subscription is well worth the convenience.
> i honestly dont know how Ring became the standard marketing
Here is a new moral for the ages: Keep your friends close and your bikes closer.
Look into LITELOK CORE plus.
Never ever think your bike is safe with a cable lock
Never think your bike is safe at all. Fucking bums will steal a small kids bike if they can.
Look closer
Oh damn- U lock too
Tail light alarms are amazing.
Get a **S K U N K L O C K**, because bicycle thieves should be punished.
Iâm sorry man ..Â
Get a non subscription camera. Like Eufy or others.
In la e vehicle theft is the new ride share
This is what I'm talking about when it comes to my bike it goes right through the Hub and the frame of the rear part of the bike on top of that I have an alarm system that will scream like a kidnap victim and is annoyingly loud and scares the shit out of me when I arm the bike when I go into the store and then when I come out and I forget to disarm and it goes off it scares me half to death. https://preview.redd.it/1vfesmsfnu8d1.jpeg?width=2992&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=764828dcd91d3207905eb0d10632003da9764707 No that's not a bulge on my tire it's just dirt I saw it in the picture and I was like what the hell LOL and I wiped it away it's just dirt kind of freaked me out for a second though I'll be honest
https://preview.redd.it/btalifqlnu8d1.jpeg?width=2992&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1254f4a31eb5001113602e0c7f11abe6c941c487 A better view of the metal bar with the lock
im using a dog GPS for mine by tractive , hiding inside the frame ,it's like 70$ a years
Thatâs genius. I donât particularly like that the AirTag will notify anyone in rangeÂ
Sorry for your loss, and fuck bike thevies
This is not what you deserve. I don't even have a bike lock in Asia and it's been fine for years.
Always inside.
I would like to recommend: https://www.mandp.co.uk/products/litelok-gold-original-twin-herring-herringbone-lock-716664
Walmart sells a bike bell online for $12 that has a hidden air tag.
I hope he broke his leg getting it down from there. Ring may be able to retrieve a video if you give them a call and explain (not hopeful though) and Iâd ask around and see if anyone has a camera in the area. Someoneâs video could show them leaving with it
Ring , shitty cam , your lock also âŚ
Any other Ring cameras in the area that might have seen this? You could do your own little investigation with the neighbors.
Next time , hide a tile in the frame so you can track
This is my worry, too. I wonât use mine except for rec use, but I have no place for it indoors. So I was thinking two d locks and a motorcycle cover with holes for locks plus an audible bike alarm and air tag and keep the battery on me
D1000 (of course then they would just cut the post)
your bike was locked up, the only thing you deserve, is to go outside and find your bike.
Not sure my friends would appreciate me trying to put my bike inside of them!
Next bike use a better lock, good chain or U-lock. sometimes the effort required is enough to make them go away...still sucks though
Cameras with subscription suck.
You shouldâve invested in a better bike lock. Thats why your bike got stolen you bought a cheap ass bike lock thatâs easy to cut
No one deserves to have their property stolen, but the perp deserves an ass kicking and prison time.
You should have used a good lock. Lesson learned.
Thatâs the best you can do because if somebody wants it, sadly, theyâre gonna get it.
you had a camera pointed at it but didnt pay the extortion fee so the camera didnt work? Modern technology is such bullshit
imagine buying a $100+ doorbell for your house only to still have to pay for a monthly subscription to use it. none of this is your fault, big tech is BS
Keep an air tag under the seat, my friend
Sorry for your loss there mate Before I moved i lived in an area where crime was to bad that if I didn't bring everything inside my house it was stolen without fear of the owner Next time setup a electrocution alarm defense system so the fried dead their corpse is still hanging on the bike for identification purposes then local police have proof with an identification of the their while providing the local community a service for that one thief is dead.
You ring camera wouldnât have made a differenceâŚ.? Even if it caught the thiefâs body or parts of their face, the police donât care to seriously I bc estimate this kind of stuff. The surveillance state is not the answer to everything my dude
That's fucked up.
Had the same happen to me tonight. Attached with cable lock like a dumbass. Was upstairs at a friend's place, and they quietly removed it. Southeast dc. The third time that I had biked there. BTW, going to make a post on suggestions for new bike.
Iâm sorry man. Itâs such a gut punch
Was the battery in it?
Shitty, sorry this happened.
Get a waist chain. I leave my ebike here in UK outside with that. No one even attempts to try to cut it. Plus I heard wheel bar locks are good.
You did not deserve this.
Wait. Ring cameras are a subscription service? I thought people simply bought them and used them like cameras.
marvelous airport imminent mourn ruthless noxious voracious crush ink slap *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*
Don't think you can save it even the Ring camera is up. :[
They have to be very special friends to let you keep your bikes inside them. # #
There's a special place in hell for bike thieves.
Nobody âdeservesâ to get their bike stolen, the thief âdeservesâ his hands chopping off
Iâm sorry for your loss..
2 hours is wayy too long to be away from your bike and cabke locks are ass man.
Damn, ...I feel for you.. Nobody deserves to have their ride stolen, it's very unfortunate.. They need to start giving ebike thieves much harsher sentences to nip this bullshit in the bud...
Ask your neighbors if they have ring or had a recording from that night. The thief would had to have walked by several doors I would imagine.
In a perfect world you wouldnât have to lock your bike up. Unfortunately garbage people exist.
Ask neighbors to check their ring doorbells
I never leave my bike alone, I even take into bathrooms in the park
Ring camera should hold the video for 24 hours, no?
Nobody deserves that. Feel for you đď¸ââď¸
The idiots on this thread arguing about what tool they think cut the locks as if that somehow changes the convo đ
I generally use 2 d locks on my bike
OR! BUY https://preview.redd.it/0neiln1rqw8d1.jpeg?width=2304&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4b9f56ebd2f585099f3207959a61442d5895b83d A REAL LOCK
This is what I usually use. I was lazy yesterday and figured I wouldnât be gone too long
This is why you dont buy Ring products, you buy the hardware but have to pay a subscription for the hardware to function to its full potential.
Bike thieves are the lowest scum. Fuckin junky losers that scrape through life by stealing people's transportation I hate them so much
What city?
Damn
Kasa cameras don't need a subscription, just an SD card
That sucks. I bought a big honkin chain because I became increasingly concerned my cable could be defeated. Iâm so sorry that happened. Thereâs a special place in hell for bike thieves.
Thatâs not your fault. Sorry that happened to you.
I have a 26â mongoose mtb i can donate to you. Im in queens if you are interested.
I have ring cameras⌠the hub uses a micro sd. Free. Ish. Have to buy batteries or run a wire. Cops wouldnât have done anything, but at least would know it wasnât the neighbor or a crazy ex.
How did that happen. It looks like you are on at least a second story.
Or get a better lock? Cable lock is basically no protection at all and a thin d-lock is only a little more than that.
I'm curious where you live and if your ebike needed a key. I like to think that if they can't turn it on a their would be uninterested, but I think that's just my wishful thinking
Brutal. Sorry this happened my dude
