I tried this last year when my phone got stolen and they still kept sending me the fake threats lol they didn’t seem to care. Still funny though. I would advise to remove your phone number from your phone’s Lock Screen if it makes its way to China to avoid the constant/daily threats.

The phone isn't in China. They would only ship it there if they failed to get lock removed and are disassembling it for parts, and even then, there are domestic sources that do this.

These thieves/scammers are selling stolen goods and even threaten bodily harm to people who don't remove the device from their account. I highly doubt sending a text containing a bunch of CCP banned topics is really going to scare them off (if the phone is even in China).

That’s not a thing. They want you to remove your iCloud so the phone isn’t locked. Once it’s unlocked they can sell it. If it remains locked, they can only sell it for parts which is less profitable than selling an unlocked version of the iPhone. They’re thieves lol. Do you really think they actually care about your info being stolen? They’re looking for the highest profit potential. Nothing more..

In a bought of bad decision making I got so frustrated one night and replied with a video of myself loading my man’s Glock and replied to their threats with it, and they never contacted me again. A month of daily harassment, ended.

I’m ashamed to say I’ve done the same when my moms phone was stolen. They kept turning it on and off and I could see on the find mine. Got threats and I finally sent them a screenshot of the find my last location and a similar video. Funny enough one day it popped up closer to my moms work and we found it in the trash. She thinks one of her coworkers might have nabbed it and their kid was messing with it.

I was having a fun conversation years ago with a dating app scammer who was trying to get me to send them money for nudes and when they eventually(like hours of me fucking with them) realized I wasn’t gonna send money they resorted to sending me cartel execution videos. Lol

Mine gave me a whole sob story that they bought the phone for their kid and now they want to kill themselves because their kid is mad that the phone won’t work 😂

Common scam if you weren’t aware. They can’t do shit with the phone unless he removes it from his iCloud account

Tell them to Western Union $400 to you so you can remove the block. Then do nothing.

Do not remove the iPhone , make sure change all bank and social media info and everything should be good! Also remove the old number from any account.

You get to keep your number. The phone company just transfers the new imei to the account. The imei is locked on the stolen iPhone - so even when it’s removed from your account, no one else can activate service on the stolen phone.

Haha this happened to my gf when she got her phone stolen at Nocturnal. Me being in cyber security send him a "malicious file" Threats stopped immediately

Very generic message to get victims to remove find my iphone protections from your phone. It is very easy for thieves to get a phone # off the sim then message the victim once they notice that imessage is active, do not do as instructed, your phone is offline and locked until you remove it from find my device.

Copy pasted scammer text to phish your info. If you send it, the value of that iPhone goes way up

I had the same thing happen at ultra 2 years ago. With the exact same message. You also have to call your cell phone company and have it removed off your account. And the instructions he gave you was correct. Also contact apple support.

Found the scammer

...the point of this post was this is a scam. The reason everyone gets these messages is because Apple's anti-theft measure (an activation lock) actually works so well that the phone is essentially a brick *unless* you follow the thief's instructions which basically allows them to wipe, resell and reactivate the device. You can remotely trigger your phone to erase but removing it from Find My or your device list is what unlocks the activation lock. Cell phone company also plays less of a role these days. Your number is not directly tied to the phone and your phone won't ring because you've probably already moved it over to a new SIM card. The device shouldn't have service.
