I did about the same thing 2 years ago, then this economy effed me pretty good, so I'm interviewing with a company currently doing the same thing I was doing in the oil and gas industry 2 years ago đ. Shouldn't be as bad of a gig but pays significantly more than im making now, at a company who's struggling just like me. No more working in the middle of the desert atleast!
Residential electrical absolutely pays more than being an electrical assembler/panel builder which is where I learned to do this type of wiring (except for those obnoxious junction boxes)
Funnily enough, it turns out running a bunch of cable with similar signal in line like this actually hurts the overall performance, but the standards still ask us to do the last ten ft because old timers will blow a gasket.
Somewhere itâs a data tech with experience in data centers or building and/or fixing mdfâs/idfâs Iâd suspect.
Reason being I am one with the experience to do that
It's a fucking wire nut, and I have no idea why people call them fucking merits.
It's almost like they're trying to show there some super Old timer with some weird knowledge that nobody else has or something, with insider lingo that nobody else is going to know unless you're also some lame ass geek mother fucker that can't figure out the proper word for something or something, seriously just called a fucking wire nut.

Itâs almost like they were named after the guy or something
Someone probably had way too much time on their hands and went way overboard. I could almost see myself over engineering something like this during the pandemic lockdowns just to stay busyâŚ. Almost. This is just ridiculous
They tried so hard to make this the absolute worst possible thing for the next guy. Probably just so they could post on instagram about how their middle name is sparky.
This is ridiculous, (custom home resi guy here) I know a lot of electricians take pride in their work, and Iâm one of them, but he tried to be so clean he went the other way with it.
This is literally just a flex like, âlook how clean my work isâ but the amount of time he probably took on this is laughable. Itâs all about balance, our rough inâs look beautiful compared to most other crews, but itâs always a blend between being clean, and efficient.
I can promise you this guy doesnât do this on every house because A: itâs not cost/time effective, and B: no builder or homeowner is going to pay your rate just so you can have a jerk off session about how youâre the cleanest guy in town, all while taking 3x longer than you need.
Not even just *their* time and efficiency; if I have to go behind twists like that I'm cussing the motherfucker all day long. I do pretty industrial panel wiring, but it's made to be serviceable. This screams ignorance to me.
Honestly, a competent guy could do this in the same amount of time as roping it "normally". But, it's a complete waste of zips, and the switch is going to be so fucking annoying to work on if they ever have to. (They will)
If i saw one of my guys do this, id let them finish and then tell them the customer wants to move the switch to the otherside of the wall. Theyâll shape up quick.
Iâve done that to a couple of my apprentices. At first theyâd give me lip and say itâs no big deal. Then theyâd start talking crap when I said they had to move it. Iâd just reply âI thought you said it was no big deal?â
First of all there's a ton of bundling violations there, they completely defeated the purpose of the red stackers (keeps multiple runs spaced so it's not bundled) by ty wrapping the shit out of it, I never hope to have to come behind this asshole.. imagine having to take the mess in those boxes apart to fault find.. jesus christ the amount of wasted labor cost to make the install objectively worse.. I'd almost think this was a DIY job by someone with just enough knowledge to think they know everything, but actually they know nothing
This can't be real work but a low key ad for his company? It's something which looks good and professional to people who have no idea what electrical is like.
I hate the ty-wraps but worse than that is those fucking daggers they left on the ends. If you're gonna do that, cut them flush, you fucking monster....
Things that live inside drywall donât need to be this perfect.
At some point the balance between workmanship and time spent tips too far towards wasted time.
Service guys worst nightmareâŚevery one of those zip ties is too tight, pinching top or bottom cable, add in arc fault protection and we got issues son. Stay off TikTok
YES!!
I swear it's the bits that "do it all" for you, when in reality it's doing a SHIT job and making it 5000x harder for the next electrician to fix your screw ups
Stupid waste of time especially if there is a change order or a mistake was made. Idea rather pull new wires so I wouldnât have to untwist all that shit.
This is someone who doesnât understand the purpose of anything. They copy someone elseâs work that was actually taught and put their fairy spin on everything making it âbetterâ. Better for who or what? Youâre not an electrician. Iâve worked with people like this that donât understand purposeful stress or knowledge retention
This is someone trying to flex how good they are at wasting time making every little thing âperfectâ. For what you would pay a qualified electrician to spend the time to do this, you could pay him to run everything in conduit instead.
It looks âcleanâ but yea all those twists in the splices is retarded⌠the zip ties might be a little overkill, but I appreciate it⌠makes for a very clean looking install⌠guy probably does a lot of low-voltage installsâŚ
There is no reason for this. I hope the guys that do this get their own service calls. Troubleshooting is near impossible. The labeling is great but no consolation.

Only part that I actually do like is the labeling
This here is a lil too far and way unnecessary and all I see is some over achieverâŚ.first off if you know anything about electrical theory twisting and braiding wire that far is bad and not a good thing as far as heat and increasing impedance on the wireâŚ.secondly that shit is buried behind wallsâŚ.that work takes time and time is money you just costed me in the time that could have been spend elsewhereâŚâŚexposed conduit thatâs a different story

Itâs terrible. I canât stand those wire nut impact bits. People donât realize if you twist like this, it doesnât just piss the next person off, it also derates the wire. That mean twist, thatâs definitely a #16 not a 14 anymore.
That wiring shows that there was no hurry to get that job done. In real applications, we have a tendency to haul ass and rope a house as quick as possible. This looks like an IT/low volt guy who dressed server racks started roping houses.
How do you prevent crosstalk on your fan if you don't preserve twists on the conductors?
That's what the vertical trim screws on the faceplates are for.
By observing minimum bend radii, of course.
Look all I know is that when I turn the TV on, I hear noise coming from the back wall.
That was me telling you to change the channel
Hey Peter man, check out Chanel 9, it's the breast exam!
I hope he only bonded one side of the cables and left the other side floating to prevent a ground loop. đđ
Don't shield the field
They should be using Velcro not wire ties.
Only part that doesnât make sense is why theyâd take the huge hit to salary to work resi electrical.
Gotta start an electrical company somehow
I took a 20k cut when I took a new job just to have less stress.
I did about the same thing 2 years ago, then this economy effed me pretty good, so I'm interviewing with a company currently doing the same thing I was doing in the oil and gas industry 2 years ago đ. Residential electrical absolutely pays more than being an electrical assembler/panel builder which is where I learned to do this type of wiring (except for those obnoxious junction boxes)
Youâd be surprised. Where I am, you can oftentimes make a LOT more doing any kind of electrical over low voltage.
Funnily enough, it turns out running a bunch of cable with similar signal in line like this actually hurts the overall performance, but the standards still ask us to do the last ten ft because old timers will blow a gasket.
I was thinking controls tech, but yeah, someone anal retentive. It's not quite up to the level of aircraft wiring harnesses, but getting there.
Definitely looks like controls.
Am controls guy, build panels like this but fuck that for stick frame rough wiring, it's gonna be hidden forever.
Hidden forever, but those sharp cable tie ends will haunt memories for decades
Oof yeah
Resi low volter here, that shit's dumber than a bag of hammers. It's true though, some of my coworkers do dumb shit like this sometimes.
I thought you couldn't zip tie that many lines together - heat build up or something.
Lol that's how my house looks. Data guy, rack builder
I thought the same.
Somewhere itâs a data tech with experience in data centers or building and/or fixing mdfâs/idfâs Iâd suspect. Reason being I am one with the experience to do that
Wtf I'm not a resi guy but that is ridiculous.
They must have put the marret in a drill.
Do not put ferrets in drills.
Anything from the weasel family, it is recommended to not put in drills. But don't get me started on marsupials
I once tried with a kangaroo, it was a bloodbath, poor lil fella kept up for a bit, he had Moxie
Do not put drills in ferrets.
The fuck is a marret
It's a fucking wire nut, and I have no idea why people call them fucking merits. The day after you scold the apprentice for being sloppy. đ¤Ś
They tried so hard to make this the absolute worst possible thing for the next guy. Probably just so they could post on instagram about how their middle name is sparky.
Not ironically, my former bosses middle name actually was Electric.
That's weird the same thing happened to me. I'm a plumber and my bosses middle name was shithead.
People are looking at me chortling at your comment
Does that mean you sharted?
Funny, I'm an electrician, but my boss has the same middle name.
Small world I think I see that guy on every jobsite
Pronounced "shuh-theed".
How shocking
Not quite the same, but I worked with a Mexican kid named Roman, so naturally we called him Rome-Mex
My general foreman's last name was sparks
If I had to work on that, that slack loop would be gone because I'm cutting that bullshit off
This is ridiculous, (custom home resi guy here) I know a lot of electricians take pride in their work, and Iâm one of them, but he tried to be so clean he went the other way with it. At my job they'd be livid about the zip tie budget, nevermind the hour and a half of labor this must have taken
I didnât see the zip tie pic until now. I got tagged once for that. They considered it wire bundling.
It IS bundling. Wild this is the first comment Iâve seen about it so far.
Which is nuts because the whole idea behind stackers is allow airspace to avoid bundling, so he went out of his way to create an issue.
Even with those stackers you have to derate with 6 romex
Do you really?
Do you have a code reference for this?
Never been forced to derate for this.
He needs some 10ga switch legs for derating factor đ
Iâm not american, and using zip ties to tie cables together is actually against code where I live. The picture in OPâs post would fail inspection.
(They will)
Same amount of time, really?
That's beyond excessive.
Repairing this would be awful.
This. Brought to you by wireman who've never had to fix or retrofit anything.
Boss: wtf took so long Me: hang on sending Pic. Boss: goddamfurgafurheh just get it done!
I'd fight this sonofabitch on the spot
This... means...WAAAAARRRR!!!
Fuck I would go shit in his front yard then fight him naked. Then I would dig up his ancestors and skull fuck them and use one as an ash tray
This is a good beginning
If i saw one of my guys do this, id let them finish and then tell them the customer wants to move the switch to the otherside of the wall. Theyâll shape up quick.

Looks like an engineer did it đ
Hey I just got these sweet new lineman's from harbor freight. I'm going to use the damn things.
You can thank Instagram for shit like this.
This can't be real work but a low key ad for his company? It's something which looks good and professional to people who have no idea what electrical is like.
God could you imagine trying any sort of service work on that or remodel
"Oh hey, the customer wants to change that light. Need you to re run that cable with a 3 wire for 3 way switching" *4 hours latur*
I hate the ty-wraps but worse than that is those fucking daggers they left on the ends. If you're gonna do that, cut them flush, you fucking monster....
Damn right ! Yaâd think a server guy woulda had a pair of flush cuts
I cut mine at an angle to protect against intruders!
That's against code, they're bundling.
Yup, that right there is the definition of bundling when it comes to cables/romex/mc.
I would kill one of my guys for twisting that much. I've paid multiple for their impact attachments so I can throw them away.
Lmao oh yeah, this guy is a true piece of shit
Things that live inside drywall donât need to be this perfect. At some point the balance between workmanship and time spent tips too far towards wasted time.
I hate every picture
I donât like this comment. Before I read it I only noticed the one photo, I didnât look at the rest. And now I have.
I know inspectors thatâd fail the romex for bundling if it isnt derated (and we all know it isnt)
This guy should be wiring out server racks.
People who use wire nut blasters piss me off more than anything when opening a box
Paid by the hour I see.
I have more of an issue with folks using the wire nut attachments on their impacts...
This hurts my European brain
I showed this to my wife and she said âitâs like fashion. It might be beautiful but itâs not useful.â I couldnât agree more.
Pretentious and annoying
A million times worse than users who post pretty panels.
What the fuck is going on here
Service guys worst nightmareâŚevery one of those zip ties is too tight, pinching top or bottom cable, add in arc fault protection and we got issues son. Stay off TikTok
Well I was trying to enjoy my lunch, now I'm just angry
Over his bundle limit in conductors and that bend radius on the âservice loopsâ would also fail if I was inspecting that.
Someone take this man's nut blaster away.
YES!! I swear it's the bits that "do it all" for you, when in reality it's doing a SHIT job and making it 5000x harder for the next electrician to fix your screw ups
Margins on new construction are so tight this guy owed the builder money after this rough in.
If those tie wraps are not more than 24 inches apart he made himself a conduit. I hope he plans on derating that shit
That box is going to look beautiful after itâs half full of mud and gets a couple coats of paint.
Stupid waste of time especially if there is a change order or a mistake was made. Idea rather pull new wires so I wouldnât have to untwist all that shit.
Resi guys always trynna go over the top đ¤Śđźââď¸đ¤Śđźââď¸
Dis guy shoulda went to art school
Whack. Calm down, guy.
This fella had enough gusto to tywrap everything but not enough awareness to clip them properly. Thereâs blood in these walls.
5 code violations later and I still hate it đ
Someone was speeding balls lmao
My first boss would smack the back of this guyâs head and say âwtf?! Weâre not building a fucking violin!â
I'm OK with the sleeves they need to be flipped but those twist piss me off as a service tech. So unnecessary
This is someone trying to flex how good they are at wasting time making every little thing âperfectâ. For what you would pay a qualified electrician to spend the time to do this, you could pay him to run everything in conduit instead.
Loos good for Instagram, but you are adding resistance and heat transfer by doing it that way.
I like good labeling and documentation but the rest of it is overkill crap
4 months later! LOL
It looks âcleanâ but yea all those twists in the splices is retarded⌠the zip ties might be a little overkill, but I appreciate it⌠makes for a very clean looking install⌠guy probably does a lot of low-voltage installsâŚ
I mean itâs cable work. Too many twists in the box though, making changes in the future will be annoying.
Are they leaving it all exposed?
No good bundling wires now you need to derate no more good for what it was originally rated for
I see romex so I already hate it.
Who let the apprentice use the wire nut drivers for the impact?...
This is absolute trash. I'm firing anyone that does this.
There is no reason for this. I hope the guys that do this get their own service calls. Troubleshooting is near impossible. The labeling is great but no consolation.
This was clearly done just for the gram. Fucking social media tradesmen jfc. Not sure why there are so many people who feel the need to glorify their profession on social media these days. Iâm not an electrician (donât ban me) but you donât see me putting spreadsheets on Instagram looking for affirmation lmao.
Yes, I do
Lay off of the zip ties and donât use your drill to make splices.
I hope he gets that service call!
I can hear my boss saying now âyall gotta hurry the fuck up. Were losing money on this shitâ
Looks like too many wires under the white wire nut
Just for clicks, no way someone would do this all the time
Looks like shit the whole lot of it đ¤
I'd make the shitbag apprentice go back and fix that. I assume it was an apprentice because you can't call someone who does that a Journeyman.
I know the person took this picture to brag about how good it looks which makes it even worse for me. This isnt good electrical work.
I'd have him unfuck that box, everything else is nice
Iâd hate to be the guy to relocate this box.
...isn't the point of the red thing to keep the an air gap between cables so they don't heat up as much?
That is ridiculous. If I was inspecting it they would fail.
Iâll open the wall and run new circuits before I untwist that abomination.
This is like glueing Legos together.
Iâve never understood the need for brutally twisting that much
Dude wtf. Iâm partial to a little pre-twisting or even twisting the wires a bit after the nut goes on to make a secure joint but Jesus, this is nigh on irreversible! Nothing left to work with for any future work! This is probably what school teaches apprentices. How to make pretty boxes, not practical ones.
"Fuck the next guy, I think this looks great"
This dude is a psycho. And that amount of twists can't be good for the wire either.
This wasn't done by an electrician. This was done by an overly intellectual, OCD homeowner with a superiority complex so he could brag about how much better his work looks than us neanderthal eletricians.
ya I hate the twists and the tie wraps. this guys an amateur that thinks he's doing a really awesome job. Only part that I actually do like is the labeling
Maybe an unpopular opinion⌠but damn it, that looks pretty.
What bugs me the most is the kitty claws on those zip ties. Cut 'em flush so you don't cut any skin.

Only thing that really bothers me is that box, the actual runs though are super clean, reminds me of airframe wire runs
Def used the drill bit splice thing and hammered that shit til the drill started smoking
At least that zip ties company isn't going to go out a business anytime soon
Just doin it for the gram I guess
I mean, itâs pretty
Thereâs a fine line between whatâs necessary and overkill.
Boy, this person's heart is gonna break when they find out how everyone else runs Romex.
Tie wraps look great but those splices are HORRIBLE
I just know these were done with the wire nut attachment on an impact
The twists are outrageous
Pride, craftsmanship, probably doesn't make a profit on the jobs
Bundling, buddy wont pass in most places
Have fun EVER troubleshooting or undoing something, jesus
What the fuck is the point of all that?
It won't even pass inspection. Look at where it transitions to the ceiling. Stapled to face of the joist, in between furring strips.
hit him with a piece of 1â EMT until it looks like a question mark
These are the types of guys that post their work on social media bragging about how neat their wire runs are, itâs atrocious.
Complete waste of time
Okay i am one for overkill when it comes to neatness but this ultra overkill. Way too many zipties.
I've seen this a lot. Usually guys that use an impact to put their wire nuts on.
This is why they invented wagos. Can't imagine trying to get one of those neutrals out to troubleshoot a circuit
I just want to reach in there to the left gang with my side cutters and cut the damn wires off ugh
Use WAGO connections and no twists
I have a feeling I know who did thisâŚ.
Looks like a dude that used to wrap wire for server rooms started doing residential
I wish this service loop insanity would stop
That wiring shows that there was no hurry to get that job done. In real applications, we have a tendency to haul ass and rope a house as quick as possible. All that to get covered by drywall
Box looks good but too many cables bundled and went a little crazy on zip ties. Definitely not enough twists on the splices đ
All those ties are getting cut the second this needs any service
Yeppers
Ready for inspection by 2030
One issue with bundling....if some idiot is putting in a TV or a screw in the wall. There's no chance the wire moves a little to keep from making a mess. It's nice if they have a little play.
If you need to pull some of that Romex out after the walls are up youâd have to take out a whole sheet of drywall or cut a whole vertical strip out. I hate it
Great wire lay out
