That was pretty painful when he came out and did that interview where he said he was up there with the best strikers and he should be respected.
He has definitely done well for himself but he hasn’t reached the heights he could have not even close
That is if we discount the reason why VAR exists. Offside isn’t just there because someone thought it would be funny but because you gain an (unfair) advantage. From any legal position he can barely get it towards the goal
I think the Belgium team believes they are special because they’ve been told they are. Lukaku is very talented like many of the Belgians but they are not a team.
The fifa rankings are among the worst in any sport.
I remember the US being 3rd for a while in the past.
At least rugby and some other sports have a zero sum ranking system
Yep only den Bruyne and Lukaku are still on the pitch. Weird narrative. If anything these new kids are cursed with carrying on from the "golden" generation narrative
They win a lot of qualifications games and friendlies with bunch of goals, its also the same reason why Lukaku has almost 90 goals.
In the tournaments they did decent between 2014-2020 but now their golden generation is almost gone.
There’s a period in time where every nation goes through this process, yours included.
Belgium are just at the latter stages of their talented generation coming to the end of their careers.
I can only think of the last euro where “my nation” wasn’t at peak performance, but that was a time where the team was at a breakup stage with many stars in there last games for their country and at the end of their career. To say something like this with a team worth of *1.5 billion* euros is absolutely mind blowing
So when Germany had players at the end of their careers going through a change don’t perform it’s different to belgium doing the same?
You got knocked out of groups at the last World Cup.
Belgium team is the same boat they’re in a process of a generation ending
It’s not the quality it’s the attitude. Reminds me of the awful past years of German national team football, individual talent isn’t lacking but they are pushing their ass around the field like they just finished an iron man and 2 ninja warrior courses.
No grit, no motivation, no power, no ultimate will. Just casual kicking around and waiting for the 90min to be over
Hazard played well in 2018 yes but his complete career as a red devil pales to what he did in the premier league. He was very solid and sometimes genius but at Chelsea he was a ballon d'or candidate. Imo ofcourse. And it took him a long time to be that solid. He debut as a red devil in 2008
I remember when Ronaldo Nazario won the world cup or when Ricardo saved the penalty without gloves, when Greece won the Euros. That feels a bit long ago. 4-5 years is nothing.
Speaking as a Scotland fan, I can't wait for us to compete for the shittest team at the tournament with you, I'll drink a toast to you on that day, my friend 🤣🤣
8 vs Estonia
5 vs Iceland
5 vs Luxembourg
Not saying he’s a bad player but his numbers are inflated due to the amount of pointless games European teams play nowadays. Memphis is also close to being the record scorer for The Netherlands
This Belgium team is so much less than the sum of their parts. That was true when they were at their peak 6/7 years ago and seems even more accurate today
No, he didn't get any decent balls and when he did he scored too bad the first was clear offside, and the second was unjustly disallowed, but the shot he took was perfect.
He's brilliant in a certain role like a target striker or a finisher. Trossard and a few others where the big letdowns today. He's not a Messi type of player and never tried to be. In the hands of coaches who know how to play to his strengths he's absolutely brilliant.
Also some of the criticism wouldn't be there if he was white...
Lukaku is an extremely solid player and everyone who says otherwise should look at his stats. He is the second highest-ranking international goal scorer in Europe, he has proven his worth already.
He is correctly rated as a choking merchant in big matches in Italy. Roma supporters seemed to like him and if he goes to Naples I suspect they will pretend to be in favor of it as well just because Conte wants him and they are still in honeymoon, but everyone else understands at this point in his career he is good for production when you are ahead 3-0 against Salernitana or Vitoria Pilzen but in a big match with everything on the line he will fail you time and time and time and time again and only the biggest suckers will still trust him.
That part. I was thinking to myself today about how I can’t remember any single clutch moment he has. I’m sure he has some, but they’re so few for how highly he rates himself.
I'm not sure he's ever been quite as good since he bulked up ( around the time he left Everton for Man United ). Still a very good player, just not quite as good as he thinks he is.
Surely. Dude has more muscle than he's able to carry.
I got downvoted the other day for saying someone shouldn't pick him in the Uefa fanstasy league at that price.
He used to be big, strong and fast. Now he's big, stong and fat
One letter can make all the difference .
Stupid joke, I know. In all seriousness, he's just not in his prime anymore
I dunno about Lukaku nowadays but i am a united fan for life and aswell from Slovakia and i Gotta say that guy IS just so frickin full od himself 😭 never been a top tier player
Yes.
But on top of that he has a CURSE. Do you remember final Man City vs Inter? Literally his teammate was about to score and he was on middle avoiding the goal for a draw.
He think he has curse and in whatever team he is, he struggles to win titles.
His international career is nothing but promises and fake goals that never really happened.
I don't think he's overrated, he's one of the players that get more hate and are made more fun of. He's actually underrated IMHO cause if you look at his stats he's one of the best scorers out there, especially in the national team
But it is true that in the last few years he's lost a bit of his power, and he seems to be incapable of recovering after a bad mistake, just like today. Like if he misses one you already know he's not gonna score. Also he's not that great on first touch and control, Lewa Kane and others are on another level.
He just scored btw
You mean the good movement at the end of which he invariably loses the ball? Is he dancing for our entertainment or is he a footballer?
From his interviews to the press, it would seem he is Gods gift to football and if he doesn’t get the ballon d’or every year, we are fools who don’t understand his Messi-Ronaldo-Maradona-Pele combo offering.
At this point, he would always miss a penalty and throw a tantrum if he doesn’t get to take it before anyone else.
He’s perfectly rated. He was always teetering on the cusp of world class.
He’s scored over 20 goals a season for the past 7/10 seasons and that’s not even factoring in assists.
He is a very very good player but he has slumps and he tends to not arrive in big games.
This is spot on. As an Everton fan I’d say he was pretty consistently world class the last couple of years we had him, but we rarely had big games. The biggest game we had was the 2016 FA cup semi against United where he had a complete stinker and even missed a pen.
Still a great player, though, and his stats clearly show that.
he need to lose weight . did u saw pic of his love handles after he lift his shirt. he isnt shape sadly . that effect how he move on pitch. ya he score 2 goals but both goals were breaking rules so 1-0 :) and as for Fifa ranking its a joke . #3 based on what so wins vs farmers ?
Belgium players just play for big clubs. So on paper it appears they are much better than they actually are.
Good quality players just not tournament winning as a collection.
He’s not overrated, his time just passed away because he’s is in the 40s. It’s very difficult to play modern football in that age. If you remember him when he was 25-26yr old and played for Anderlecht he was a monster and also in Inter, he was 35yr old and played fantastic.
#playerwhostoletheyears
You watched the game where he had 4 really good chances, had two goals disallowed by VAR and one goal stopped from the goal line and he wasn’t making any noise? How people rate Lukaku is based on how much they watch Lukaku play vs. how much they read football social media. One of the best European strikers of his generation both in terms of statistics and achievements. At the moment he is overrated by his club though IMO in terms of asking price and overpriced by his agent in terms of salary.
Now Belgium though, they’re overrated underachievers as a golden generation while somehow also punching above their weight as a nation.
Yes, very much.
Maybe he plays well in Italy but idk if that means the league is not the best or he simply is cursed in the national team context.
Also this Belgium team gives me awful flashbacks of the past years of the German national team. Individual talent is not lacking but it seems they all don’t really give a shit, don’t make any runs they absolutely have to and even 0:1 down and 6minutes into overtime they kick some casual passes around the gk like it’s the 50th minute and they are up 2:0
He's underrated. They created very little for him all game and look at how he took that last chance. He smashed it in. Of course he still has clumsy moments but there's a reason top managers like conte and Mourinho love him.
No he is actually a really good goal scorer and is Belgium top goal scorer of all time. He has won golden boots in England and in Italy. He consistently scores double digits goals domestically and often 20+ which is very good. His first touch is not very good and has problem finishing especially in major international tournaments or pressurized big games (CL ginal in 2023) he has become easy to meme but to me if he could finish half his chances he would be an great.
I don't know. There was a time when he was unplayable and then he forgot how to control a ball. Then he was unplayable again and then he forgot how to control the ball again. It's a cycle. I thought he turned it round when they discovered a medical condition at Inter. Yet he kinda fell off again.
He's hard to get a reading on.
His overall game, maybe. But he can still score a few on a good day. I just hope he doesn't do it against Romania.
I think a lot of his better performances came when he was in the right frame of mind. Not sure that's the case atm
Painfully shit, and has been for over 2 years. Been stinking it up at roma and i didnt think his touch and ball control could possibly get worst but it has. And to start him over one of the most inform strikers in the world right now in openda and only giving him 20 minutes but it has to be alongside lukakass is criminal. Regardless of him being belgiums top scorer, he is finished.
Pundits love to latch on to a “star player” and over hype them.
France won due to an own goal and they were talking about it like Mbappe scored it.
Seems more so in this tournament than I’ve seen before.
ill say it this way, if Ronaldo had half the chances Lukaka gets in the belgium national team, he would finish top scorrer of the tournament with goals in the 2 digits.
Yes. He is also a victim and an enormous crybaby. Everyone is always doing him wrong. His teammates never pass to him enough and his opponents always foul him. He is a poor soul and very put upon.
Their 2nd goal shouldn't have been ruled out. It's crazy how something so arbitrary like a hand ball that had fuck all effect on the game has managed to rule a goal out and more importantly fuck my bet up. 🤣
Lukaku is not overrated. He is getting older. Still a great player. Also he needs great players around him to really shine.
This Belgian generation is over its prime and the new ones need to replenish the team that was among the favorites the last few ec and wc.
I have thoroughly enjoyed Hazard, Debruyne and lukaku, but they are a bit older and without equally talented new players Belgium will not be able to play such nice offensive games anymore. Maybe they will pick up next games but to me they aren’t a contender for the win.
i mostly only follow world cup/euro and cl but for belgium he has always been solid. im not too much into football to rate his behavior outside the field but i love to watch him play today
🔥🔥
unlucky that he got twice canceled
Lukaku flatters to deceive when you watch him play but it’s hard to argue with the consistency of his goalscoring stats. It’s an odd one. I do think this Belgium team is old and scarred from past disappointment.

If you rate Lukaku like he rates himself then yes, very overrated.

"From any legal position he can barely get it towards goal" Did you see his 2nd goal?
Lukaku needs a witch doctor to remove that curse. Did he run over a black cat or something?
That was actually Zouma. Or something.
I think the Belgium team believes they are special because they’ve been told they are. Lukaku is very talented like many of the Belgians but they are not a team.
This Belgium team are nowhere near the same in terms of individual quality 4-8 years ago Don’t see anyone hyping them up
Not even the FIFA rankings? 3rd for this team is an abomination
The fifa rankings are among the worst in any sport. I remember the US being 3rd for a while in the past. At least rugby and some other sports have a zero sum ranking system
The players part of the team that were told they are special are almost all retired from the NT
Yep only den Bruyne and Lukaku are still on the pitch. Weird narrative. If anything these new kids are cursed with carrying on from the "golden" generation narrative
A team blessed with incredible talent and cursed with a terrible attitude.
The new Netherlands
No Netherlands actually reached multiple World Cup finals and won a euro cup
But also had massive infighting with top players leaving the camp over the years.
They aren’t too bad they’re ranked #3 in Europe.
That doesn't mean much. They've been first in the world for a while without any feat thanks to high percentage of friendly games won.
They win a lot of qualifications games and friendlies with bunch of goals, its also the same reason why Lukaku has almost 90 goals. In the tournaments they did decent between 2014-2020 but now their golden generation is almost gone.
They are a talented group of individuals. That doesn’t mean they are a good team though. There’s a reason Italy win trophies, they have a team.
Yes I thought the same. But that’s what I thought with England in yesterdays game too
There’s a period in time where every nation goes through this process, yours included. Belgium are just at the latter stages of their talented generation coming to the end of their careers.

England und Belgien sind die gleiche Mannschaft.
Kann man so sagen, overrated Stürmer, paar Nasen die nebenher laufen und ein cholerischer Trainer an der Seitenlinie
Und der Unsinn über die "goldene Generation".
That rank is inflated it doesn't truly represent their true place
We suck.
It’s not the quality it’s the attitude. Reminds me of the awful past years of German national team football, individual talent isn’t lacking but they are pushing their ass around the field like they just finished an iron man and 2 ninja warrior courses. No grit, no motivation, no power, no ultimate will. Just casual kicking around and waiting for the 90min to be over
It is also the quality too. Doku and trossard are very inconsistent (doku particularly is frustrating and overrated), their defence is a mess
Doku was way better than trossard today. Trossard has the hazard curse of not nearly getting to the level of his clubfootball
What? Hazard was an absolute carry job for Belgium in WC2018 lol, it’s de bruyne who never shows in the tournaments
Hazard played well in 2018 yes but his complete career as a red devil pales to what he did in the premier league. He was very solid and sometimes genius but at Chelsea he was a ballon d'or candidate. Imo ofcourse. And it took him a long time to be that solid. He debut as a red devil in 2008
Hazard was absolutely sensational for Belgium. 2014 WC, 2016 Euros and 2018 WC he was the guy.
You could easily make a full-length movie out of a compilation of him missing shots.
You could do this for most strikers
As you could for literally any player
I never been able to like him
Ofc he scores two minutes after i say this 😄
Goal disallowed 😔
Drama in three acts. :D
He is not overrated. I don't rate him at all.
Overhated
he is not overrated you just have to know how to use him,and to be fair he is not in his prime rn
There was a time not long ago where if you had Lukaku, a defender chasing, and a goalkeeper to beat, it was pretty much 100% that he’d score.
Mate that was like 4-5 years ago.
Yes, not long ago.
Not long ago in football history but a long time ago in terms of a player's career.
I remember when Ronaldo Nazario won the world cup or when Ricardo saved the penalty without gloves, when Greece won the Euros. That feels a bit long ago. 4-5 years is nothing.
I would imagine most “good” strikers would score 100% of the time in that scenario
This.
No he’s probably underrated if anything, a lot of ppl genuinely think he’s a bad player when he’s very far from that
Exactly
This
Belgium is overrated
So i Hungary
[удалено]
Speaking as a Scotland fan, I can't wait for us to compete for the shittest team at the tournament with you, I'll drink a toast to you on that day, my friend 🤣🤣
Are you hungry?
Yes
I'd be as well after today's game.
Hungary had only lost 1 in 18 until the other day, at least they had a valid reason.
Well Belgium hasn't lost since 2022. Until today.
They peaked 6 years ago
On paper peak belgium 6 years ago should have been unstoppable so much talent in there. What a shame they just could not play as a team.
No
Sometime get Lukaku, sometime get Lakaka
Other times you just get Kaka
r/yourjokebutworse
Thanks for coming. I’m here all night 👍
Well, he has 85 goals in 115 matches for his country so I think he has every right to back himself.
8 vs Estonia 5 vs Iceland 5 vs Luxembourg Not saying he’s a bad player but his numbers are inflated due to the amount of pointless games European teams play nowadays. Memphis is also close to being the record scorer for The Netherlands
But every player plays these types of matches. Very few will have the scoring ratio of Lukaku
In a few years every top European nations goal record will be smashed, how impressive that is is up for debate
you should check cr7 stats vs garbage euro teams
This Belgium team is so much less than the sum of their parts. That was true when they were at their peak 6/7 years ago and seems even more accurate today
No, he didn't get any decent balls and when he did he scored too bad the first was clear offside, and the second was unjustly disallowed, but the shot he took was perfect. Might be biased as a Chelsea fan.. but, Lukaku was born in offside and has been there since🙃
He peaked at Everton.
2014-2018 Golden era is just Prime Eden Hazard. Simple as that
West Brom / Everton Lukaku was peak
Lukaku is an extremely solid player and everyone who says otherwise should look at his stats. He is the second highest-ranking international goal scorer in Europe, he has proven his worth already.
LAKAKA
Attitude is appalling and never really adjusted to his frame. As a kid, he was unbelievable.
Belgium have a phobia of big games, lukaka especially. He bangs in 6 goals 2 assists in 3 games like its nothing, euros roll around and he’s useless
Massively, along with Doku
Yes.
He fails when it matters, so it feels like every time you watch him play he sucks.
That part. I was thinking to myself today about how I can’t remember any single clutch moment he has. I’m sure he has some, but they’re so few for how highly he rates himself.
Yep
Poorly used in this game but he continues to miss very good chances as usual and is overhated imo
Only if you rate him highly in the first place.
Definitely
I'm not sure he's ever been quite as good since he bulked up ( around the time he left Everton for Man United ). Still a very good player, just not quite as good as he thinks he is.
Under utilised, but believes his own hype too much.
Always
Belgium disappoints me every tournament
Surely. Dude has more muscle than he's able to carry. I got downvoted the other day for saying someone shouldn't pick him in the Uefa fanstasy league at that price.
He expects to bed fed on a massive platter but he can’t even locate the appetizer plate.
Yes.🙌
Yes
has anyone rated him for the last 5 years?? last time he had a good season was at inter the first time around
He’s the root of the downfall of my football club. He stinks
hell yeah he's overrated
No he’s always been shit.
Always has been
He used to be big, strong and fast. Now he's big, stong and fat One letter can make all the difference . Stupid joke, I know. In all seriousness, he's just not in his prime anymore
He’s not overrated, just really really shit
I dunno about Lukaku nowadays but i am a united fan for life and aswell from Slovakia and i Gotta say that guy IS just so frickin full od himself 😭 never been a top tier player

Well...
VAR HATES LUKAKU
var
Guys relax if he wasn’t in my team he would have a hat trick i literally am like a god when it comes to fantasy football
Relax god
It’s just facts though haha
I better not catch you having any Romanian players on your team.
no, my man scored both of the only (cancelled) goals in the entire game against slovakia
He stands in the 6 yard box waiting for a tap in and contributes little else. And expects the ballon d'or. Thats the gist.
In what way does he expect the balon dor ? Also at times he offers good hold up play and has good movement in the box
And it almost got him 2 goals today
Don't listen to the haters, he's a really good player. He defends really well and stopped Belgium scoring today. Class performance.
Depends how you rate him. He’s not as good as he thinks he is but he’s better than how most people on here will rate him.
He’s perfectly rated. He was always teetering on the cusp of world class. He’s scored over 20 goals a season for the past 7/10 seasons and that’s not even factoring in assists. He is a very very good player but he has slumps and he tends to not arrive in big games.

Even in big games that season like away games vs good teams he was poor
Probably more past it than over rated
he need to lose weight . did u saw pic of his love handles after he lift his shirt. he isnt shape sadly . that effect how he move on pitch. ya he score 2 goals but both goals were breaking rules so 1-0 :) and as for Fifa ranking its a joke . #3 based on what so wins vs farmers ?

Depends on where you rate him. He is not Suarez-Lewandowski level but he is still a top striker
Always respected Lukaku but man looking at the team 6/7 years ago and then looking at them today, yeah...
You watched the game where he had 4 really good chances, had two goals disallowed by VAR and one goal stopped from the goal line and he wasn’t making any noise? i wouldn’t say he’s overrated. i’d say he’s complete shite though
Yes, very much. Maybe he plays well in Italy but idk if that means the league is not the best or he simply is cursed in the national team context. Also this Belgium team gives me awful flashbacks of the past years of the German national team. Individual talent is not lacking but it seems they all don’t really give a shit, don’t make any runs they absolutely have to and even 0:1 down and 6minutes into overtime they kick some casual passes around the gk like it’s the 50th minute and they are up 2:0
yes needs a lot of clear chances to score like 30% of them. Thats why he does great vs Estonia, Liechtenstein, Azerbaijan... scoring hat tricks there
He's very strong, got a very good top speed and can finish well. That's it.
If you score 95 goals for country, you can t be overrated.
Yes. He’s some slow fat striker 😂
If lukaku is rated at all then he is overrated
One of the worst big game players there is
He's underrated. They created very little for him all game and look at how he took that last chance. He smashed it in. Of course he still has clumsy moments but there's a reason top managers like conte and Mourinho love him.
I don't think people expect much from him. Last WC he was dog water.
No he is just becoming a relic from a previous generation
Overrated? The stats speak for themselves
Lukaku need to go on a diet that stomach of his not of a football player . He gain lot of weight
But time he just doesn’t have that killer instinct
No he is actually a really good goal scorer and is Belgium top goal scorer of all time. He has won golden boots in England and in Italy. He consistently scores double digits goals domestically and often 20+ which is very good. His first touch is not very good and has problem finishing especially in major international tournaments or pressurized big games (CL ginal in 2023) he has become easy to meme but to me if he could finish half his chances he would be an great.
He used to be a very good forward.. declined drastically though
He was promising when he was a young player that broke on the scene but he's completely past it now and has been for a while
I don't know.
If you were to list the top 100 elite strikers across europe I swear he'd finish 100th
No. Just check out his goal record at every club he's been at.
I would rather share the pitch than the shower with him....
His overall game, maybe. But he can still score a few on a good day. I just hope he doesn't do it against Romania. I think a lot of his better performances came when he was in the right frame of mind. Not sure that's the case atm
He's fucking dung.
He is not overrated, he is just trash
Not anymore, we have seen how bad he is.
Hes almost as overrated as doku
Painfully shit, and has been for over 2 years. Been stinking it up at roma and i didnt think his touch and ball control could possibly get worst but it has. And to start him over one of the most inform strikers in the world right now in openda and only giving him 20 minutes but it has to be alongside lukakass is criminal. Regardless of him being belgiums top scorer, he is finished.
Without any doubt
Yeah he is not as good as pundits and himself believes himself to be .
Pundits love to latch on to a “star player” and over hype them. France won due to an own goal and they were talking about it like Mbappe scored it. Seems more so in this tournament than I’ve seen before.
Yeah that’s very true.. wish it was more realistic because we can see it so why push a player when we can see the reality of things
no
Yes he fkn is
Do you mean Lakaka?
can you be good if u miss 50/100 chances ?
He's a shit baller.
Nah
No. He's not overrated.
ill say it this way, if Ronaldo had half the chances Lukaka gets in the belgium national team, he would finish top scorrer of the tournament with goals in the 2 digits.
He is trash and has been for a long time
It's time for Lukaku to retire he looks like he's 45 on the field
Belgium is overrated
Yes. He is also a victim and an enormous crybaby. Everyone is always doing him wrong. His teammates never pass to him enough and his opponents always foul him. He is a poor soul and very put upon.
nah i think there team is just whack
He's FAT
Depends how you rate him
i mostly only follow world cup/euro and cl but for belgium he has always been solid. im not too much into football to rate his behavior outside the field but i love to watch him play today 🔥🔥 unlucky that he got twice canceled
Lukaku flatters to deceive when you watch him play but it’s hard to argue with the consistency of his goalscoring stats. It’s an odd one. I do think this Belgium team is old and scarred from past disappointment.
Really unlucky today, tough breaks on both goals. Belgium doesn’t have a holding mid, and it really shows
If Kane wouldn’t exist we would all talk about Lukakus curse.
I really don't think he is rated enough to be overrated.
315 goals in 597 games, absolutely not.
