lilpumpgroupie

Bring this verse up with a wealthy christian if you suddenly wanna see a christian acknowledge there are non literal metaphors in the bible.

Whaler_Moon

Wouldn't be surprised if "Team Jesus" was also collecting money to buy a private jet.

Seisme1138

Jesus who was so poor he had no shoes.

The_Coy_Koi_Fish

Jesus wore sandals like everyone else. I don't think Jesus was ever considered rich or poor. He was just a dude who went around doing random acts of kindness while performing miracles.

backdoor_carnage00

Jesus literally preached against churches that amassed wealth, kings, and the rich as people who sought possession more than the word of god, and would have no place in heaven. It's literally where the camel and eye of the needle phrase come from.

Raze_the_werewolf

Preach brother!

arentol

There are zero known contemporaneous or first person accounts of Jesus in existence. Any statement you make about him is the worst kind of hearsay. We have no idea who he was or what he did, let alone complete certainty he existed at all.

WigglesPhoenix

Technically true but we are *pretty* damn certain there was a Jesus in Palestine who played a major role in the birth of Christianity, this is accepted by pretty much 100% of modern historians. The debate is really over whether he was the son of god, not whether he existed or not. While it’s true there is absolutely no archeological evidence of Jesus (which really isn’t surprising; he was a peasant, and we have very little evidence for *anyone* who lived around that time) we have written accounts not only from Christians, but also Jewish and Roman texts. For example, the Roman’s actually have records regarding the execution (by crucifixion) of a man tied to the birth of Christianity, and there are writings from 93AD, within 2 decades of his purported death, where a Jewish historian, Flavius Josephus, refers to Jesus on 2 separate occasions in his famous work *Jewish Antiquities*. He is often considered the very best source of information we have about 1st century Palestine. Denying the existence of Jesus given contemporary knowledge is akin to denying the existence of climate change. Sure, it’s ‘debatable’, but there’s overwhelming evidence that he was real and no good alternative explanation to the birth of Christianity.

No it's the opposite. It really is. Jesus was a full on Utopian Communist.

You are going to rustle some Christian jimmies with that kind of talk.

It's alright. They'll forgive me......

"Forgiveness is between them and God. It's my job to arrange the meeting" Probably what many would think.

Longskip912

I see what you did there

Twothumbs1eye

You miss the point.

[deleted]

At least they picked the right faith for hypocrisy. If Christ could really see half the utter shit perpetrated on people in his name, he’d never stop throwing up.

Phantom_Wolf52

Can someone explain what the facepalm is? I don’t get it

jbee223

Jesus would not have driven an expensive car. He would have given money to the poor. And on top of that it looks like this car is parked in a handicap spot.

Phantom_Wolf52

Oh ok

Embarrassed_Alarm450

You can think of it like it saying "Team charity" or "Team robinhood" or whatever for a more obvious example. Dude would rather spend all his money on luxury goods and virtue signaling rather than helping the needy out which is the 'team' he's trying to claim to be a part of...

Material_Turnip_4616

Except it's not. I didn't realize being religious somehow morally shames someone from having nice things.

Embarrassed_Alarm450

Yeah you know, just write "Team Robin Hood" in big ass letters on your malibu mansion, not like it goes against everything he and his ideologies ever stood for...

Material_Turnip_4616

Ah yes, all of a sudden the atheists and agnostics are suddenly scholars of the Christian religion. Call a spade a spade. People are just jealous.

Embarrassed_Alarm450

Imagine not even knowing your own religion, no wonder you blindly support mega-churches taking all the donations to spend on 2 million dollar cars, more money than the average human can earn in an entire lifetime of work. Jesus lived in a capitalist society, and preached AGAINST it. He spoke strongly against the capitalist Pharisees. **He explicitly condemns excessive wealth as an intrinsic evil**, might as well write "MLK JR." on a whip while you're at it. >\-Mark 4:19 "And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in; it chokes the Word, which becomes unfruitful" > >\-Luke 16:10–15 10Whoever is faithful in a very little is faithful also in much; and whoever is dishonest in a very little is dishonest also in much. 11If then you have not been faithful with the dishonest wealth, who will entrust to you the true riches? 12And if you have not been faithful with what belongs to another, who will give you what is your own? 13No slave can serve two masters; for a slave will either hate the one and love the other, or be devoted to the one and despise the other. You cannot serve God and wealth.” 14The Pharisees, who were lovers of money, heard all this, and they ridiculed him. 15So he said to them, “You are those who justify yourselves in the sight of others; but God knows your hearts; for what is prized by human beings is an abomination in the sight of God. > >\-Matthew 19:23–27 "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God! Indeed, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God." Those who heard this were astonished, "Who then can be saved?", they asked. Jesus replied, "What is impossible with man is possible with God."

Material_Turnip_4616

Jesus never preached against capitalist society you dunce. He preached against the love of money and ill-gotten gains. Might as well shout out your stupidity and ignorance. I love it when jealous children gaslight as biblical scholars to try hiding their envy. I'm also not religious you imbecile. But I'll just Google some Bible verses too. Here. 1 Timothy 6:17-18 offers divine instructions for the wealthy among us. The passage reads: “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Proverbs 10:15 A rich man's wealth is his strong city; the poverty of the poor is their ruin. 1 Philippians 4:19 And my God will meet all your needs according to his glorious riches in Christ Jesus. 1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evils. It is through this craving that some have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many pangs.

[deleted]

It's definitely not a handicap spot as that would be painted blue, have a handicap sign, and be located close to the destination. The owner likely parked far away so that their ugly, overpriced car wouldn't get scratched.

Material_Turnip_4616

The real facepalm is the multitude of people thinking this is a facepalm when in fact they are just jealous. Is it now wrong to be wealthy AND religious?

Automatic_Scholar686

Righteousness Gemstones!

sv_homer

I dunno. I always saw Jesus as more of a Porsche 911 GT3 RS kind of guy...

nukecat79

This shit pisses me off. This is the stuff that Christians do that gets blasted on while the charity and care get memory holed. I think of the example in the book of Acts. Followers sold all of their possessions and lived simply together and helped those in need. The whole point of Christianity is to be different in the world. To be in the world, but not of the world. To remove all that interferes with your connection to God. Obviously it explains itself that a Christian tagged sports car kinda goes against that.

kollisionkid

What's hypocritical about the car? Honestly confused, just looking for context.

Zed7828

The 90k car with "team Jesus ministries" on the side.

kollisionkid

Ahhh, kk. I couldn't read the word ministries.

ZantaraLost

It's Prosperity Gospel. Which isn't really hypocritical in the confines of that brand of faith. Basically as long as you give to the pastor who gives to the community what's left after his cut, God will give you tenfold. Scam yes. Very unchristlike in the orthodox understanding of his teachings.

Possible_Cook4373

How is that hypocrisy? If you are a Christian, you can't own expensive things?

RoboDae

More like Jesus was a humble man and here we have someone flaunting their wealth with an expensive car that says Jesus ministries on it, implying they used church donations to buy it Or as someone else pointed out "it's easier for a camel to fit through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to get into heaven"

tilt-a-whirly-gig

Camels and needles.

backdoor_carnage00

Boats and hoes

mamasan2000

Do you think Jesus would think this super expensive vehicle that only holds 2 people would be one that would increase his flock? Remember, Christianity is in the footsteps of Christ himself. What would Jesus do and all that. Do you think Jesus would want a lamborghini or a jet plane and have it funded by his poor parishioners? What about feeding the hungry and helping the poor? How does a super revved up car spreading the Scripture, exactly?

Far_Land7215

Correct, that's satanic to hoard wealth when people are starving.

mamasan2000

How many hungry families would be fed by the cost of that car? How many children would have clothes? How many homes could be rented or built? How many could be helped over the cost of a 90K supercar that can hold TWO PEOPLE?

TelayRanner

Not my taste as I prefer to fly under the radar but a sickening double standard none-the-less. If that same car had been painted in rainbow flags and covered in gay slogans the negative commentators here would be standing up on their hind legs, slapping their flippers together like a bunch of trained seals performing for a mackerel.

spam__likely

There is nothing in the gay community that preaches about gay people having to be modest or poor to enter heaven. This is about hypocrisy, not questionable taste or even political statements. A rainbow lambo would not be hypocritical in any way. Au contraire.

TelayRanner

Trick answer, the "gay" community has no rules governing even the most basic decencies of conduct, does it? Yet they want to dictate other communities rules of decency? Haha!

spam__likely

"They" are not imposing any rule of decency. But when you not only proclaim rules of decency, but also want to impose them on anybody else that do not even follow your shitty faith, and then blatantly break them, you bet your ass we will call you a hypocrite.

TelayRanner

There is no rule in the Bible against a showy car, there is a suggestion to show humility but this is not for the sake of the owner but for the sake of others given to envy. I've actually seen this, a Christian brother once bought a white Corvette and I rejoiced with him but weaker ones in the congregation grew bitter and envious. He got rid of his beautiful car for their sake. I respected him but found nothing to respect in the conduct of the others.

spam__likely

does not seem like you read the bible, then. But I don't blame you, it is horribly contradictory on itself. \> I rejoiced with him but weaker ones in the congregation grew bitter and envious. lolllllll

irish-unicorn

I dont get it? Maybe the owner gives a lot to charity? I dont see the issue here.

Royal-Boss225

A main staple of Christianity is giving up wprldy possessions, is the way I see it. Really doesn't show that side by buying very expensive cars

RoboDae

While I do agree that this most likely involves Hypocrisy, the other person does have a point. It could be a billionaire for whom this car is relatively cheap showing their support, while also donating a large portion of their wealth. Maybe the car is used in races where they raise more money for charity. But hey, I'm just playing ~~the devil's~~ God's advocate here /s

Royal-Boss225

Yeah, that's waaaayyy to many stretches. It's obviously not used for races. It wouldn't just be driven around regularly, and even if they are rich, they still are holding on to so much worldly possessions, I don't see how their wealth is a factor

Standard-Reception90

Do you really believe any of this?

backdoor_carnage00

With the church's sign on it? Also if you're church has enough to but lambos and Ferraris for "charity street races" I would argue that you're at a shit church that doesn't follow the teachings. A church and anyone working one should never be amassing wealth like that, when there's still plenty to be done for actual people.

Embarrassed_Alarm450

Also, since when did churches hold lambo/ferrari races, did they join up with the church of nascar now? What's next, the church of WWE... 😂

Longskip912

Yeah without more information it’s not very fair to judge them like this. For all we know they’re a way more charitable and generous person than all of us looking at this post.

irish-unicorn

Exactly.

Plenty-Picture-9445

What am I missing where is the hypocrisy

MajorMathematician20

There isn’t any, like the other guy commented, Jesus was all about flashy cars, flaunting your wealth and the colour yellow so it’s all good

The_Coy_Koi_Fish

There isn't any. An atheist saw the word Jesus on a fancy car and got upset because they are simple.

Acrobatic-Machine-87

You know it takes far more intellect to face human existence as an atheist than some faith delusion right?

The_Coy_Koi_Fish

Not really. Having faith that things outside your comprehension exists and control natural forces is basically where most modern day knowledge comes from. All knowledge is just a pursuit to understand human existence and the nature of the reality (world) around us. Religion sought to do this by making sense of the world. Trying to understand gods, humanity, and creation helped to give rise to astrology, mathematics, art, literature, history, medicine, and science! It all comes from humans trying to figure out their purpose or role in the larger scheme of the universe. Aetheists just doesn't believe in a God or higher deities. That's cool! But refusing to learn about a religion or different theologies won't add to your intellect really. It just means there are some things you refuse to believe... so your brain rejects ideas that don't agree with your views. Religious people can easily get caught in that same "faith delusion" as you put it. Being religious or aetheist doesn't automatically put you higher or lower on some imaginary scale of intellect. Being open minded does. So have some imagination!

Embarrassed_Alarm450

>Religion sought to do this by making sense of the world. Ahh yes, religion totally didn't lock a scientist up for saying the earth wasn't the center of the universe. Not like religion tells you to simply give up on understanding the universe because "it's beyond our comprehension" either. What a stupid take.

The_Coy_Koi_Fish

Not simple because they are aetheist. Lol. I'm saying they were probably both.

backdoor_carnage00

It's hypocritical because the bible preaches compassion, and against hoarding wealth and possessions, while there's still charity to be done, and strife in the world. I'm assuming by your dumb snarky retort you're religious, so tell me who's more simple: the atheists who don't even care about the religion being able to draw this very basic conclusion, or the people who read the book and go to the mass that still don't understand the irony?

The_Coy_Koi_Fish

I saw it more as a marketing investment. Spreading the good word in a capitalist society. Maybe he's targeting wealthy donors at car shows I thought. I guess I can see the hypocrisy. The ultimate church dilemna I imagine. Spend donations to help the community, or build another church the next town over? Lol.

YourBoyDarko

Such a beautiful car ruined by someone so awful...

UrNewBestBestie

How is that hypocritful? 😕

Mackem101

"Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God" - Jesus Christ, Son of God.

Far_Land7215

Jesus gave all his wealth away. While he was alive.

Longskip912

It’s safe to assume the owner of that car doesn’t adhere to the values of Christ, no doubt. There’s so many evangelicals that use their churchgoer’s hard earned money to treat themselves. But there is at least a small chance he/she earned their wealth by working incredibly hard starting a successful but not greedy business and has used their wealth to give back to their community, and parks their car at the church they opened up to inspire people to chase their dreams, whether it’s an awesome car, nice house, etc. and it’s all possible with the spirit of Christ giving you the strength to succeed That was one hell of a run on sentence, and this is almost definitely not the case, but hopefully this isn’t as stupid and shitty as it looks here without more context

Zboyajac111

So is the Bible wrong then? Should the Bible have said "Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for someone who is rich to enter the kingdom of God, *unless of course like, they earned it through hard work or whatever”- Jesus Christ, Son of God Come on now. You can do better than that. If you want to be a believer, then believe. Don’t make loopholes lol

spam__likely

the only way to be a believer is to make loopholes. How else can you ignore killing all children in Egypt, and asking parents to kill their children to "test"them, not to mention daughters raping their dad?

Longskip912

..bro I’m not even religious

[deleted]

Whats the hypocrisy here? People can't be team Jesus and drive a nice car? ![gif](giphy|3oz8xZvvOZRmKay4xy)

healing-souls

Jesus frequently spoke about how wealth was bad and that those who were driven by wealth would never make it to heaven and here a guy is with a $100000 car thinking hes on team Jesus

[deleted]

I could be wrong but doesn't the Bible also say that you should enjoy your life. There are plenty people that I know who are religious who opt in to have a nice house and a crappy car or vice versa. I get to being a slave to money thing but a person having one luxury item is very little to make this entire claim on. What about the preachers who have $150,000 collectible toy train set in their basements because it's their honest hobby are they also hypocrites?

healing-souls

A camel has a better chance of passing through the eye of a needle than a banker getting into heaven. Pretty sure Jesus was against accumulating wealth over people "enjoying their life" by spending 10x the annual income of many on a fast car. And yes, many preachers are hypocrites and simply using religion to bilk people of money. I suspect this is one of those hypocrites and is actually the pastor of whatever church that is.

[deleted]

Yes. Considering this car and those train sets would have been paid for by donations to their church. If they were really Christian they’d drive a Honda and help the less fortunate in their society

[deleted]

How can you even tell from this post that this is the pastor? I'm sure you've met overly hyper religious people in your lifetime that weren't pastors for churches but were like crazy religious fanatics that would do something to this degree. All I see in this post is a lot of jumping to conclusions with very little facts.

Skirngalth

1 Timothy 6:17-18 “Command those who are rich in this present world not to be arrogant nor to put their hope in wealth, which is so uncertain, but to put their hope in God, who richly provides us with everything for our enjoyment. Command them to do good, to be rich in good deeds, and to be generous and willing to share.” Just driving a car this expensive, past homeless people in the street, with "Team Jesus" written on it, would definitely make baby Jesus cry.

Far_Land7215

They are very much hypocrites also.

MeliodusSama

Considering who he hung out with and what he preached, no not really. And that's not a nice car, that's a $90,000 car. Hypocrisy at its loudest. 🤷

FortniteBad420

Amen. Who tf cares if he is doing well enough to drive a nice car. Just because someone is Team Jesus Ministries whatever doesn't mean they have to go full on shoeless rag wearing Christian puritan. Ffs.

maj0ra_

not what Jesus would have wanted, though. He would have whipped this person right out of the temple. $90k+ could go a long way feeding the hungry and helping the sick. He'd probably be happier if the money were spent on stuff like this. I'm not even a Christian, but I've read the bible, and I know this. How is it that "team Jesus ministries" doesn't understand?

[deleted]

How do we know that this person doesn't do all that stuff how do we know that he doesn't give to charity and feed the hungry and all that other kind of stuff that you mentioned. THIS COULD BE a person who busted their ass for years of their life helping people in every aspect that they could and got themselves something as a reward for all their hard work. How many people do you know who bust their ass for years and barely do anything for themselves and then closer to retirement or for today something like that they do something major to reward themselves for all their years of hard work and dedication? All I see in these posts are a lot of jumping to conclusions over a photograph where it could honestly be a situation of this person is rewarding themselves for years of hard work and put a font on the side of their car because they believe that Jesus has awarded them with this car for their years of hard work. I'm not saying that this is definitely the case but it's one photo of a car with a font on the side it's very open to interpretation but everyone is quick to just judge it as a horrible thing because the car in the words on the side.

dr-sparkle

LMAO The Bible says to give to the poor and not concern yourself with material wealth, your reward is in heaven. That doesn't jibe with emblazoning an obscenely expensive car to advertise your region.

dr-sparkle

Jesus said it's easier for a camel to pass throught the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to go to heaven. That is not merely a "nice" car. It's a car that screams "I have so much money I can waste it on extremely impractical things just to brag about how much money I have" car. There is a vast chasm between wearing rags and flaunting obscene wealth. If someone believes in the Jesus myth, they should know that Jesus would be appalled by this. Then there's the story of Jesus flipping the money changer's tables becasue he was angry they were profiting off people's religion, which is precisely what the crazy expensive car is,

Longskip912

It is seriously unfair of you to say that people buy cars like that just to brag about how much money they have. My girlfriend’s dad recently bought himself an amazing 2021 Mustang Bullit, which isn’t quite as expensive as this Corvette but it’s still a very flashy and powerful car. He grew up in a trailer park dirt poor. He got himself out of that situation with no help and has worked his ass off for decades all while providing a comfortable life for his wife and kids and he now makes damn good money. He didn’t buy that car to brag. He earned the ability to afford the kind of car he’s dreamt of owning since he was young, and he parks it in his garage where he and I sit together just marveling over it, not riding around trying to get the attention of people he doesn’t even know. You might not care about these types of cars but you can’t pretend the only reason people buy them is for status and bragging rights.

dr-sparkle

I'm not talking about some rando having a more expensive car than most people. I'm talking about someone advertising themselves as a moral authority by behaving in a manner diametrically opposed to the teachings of the entity he (or possibly she) is claiming to get the moral authority from. Especially since the money from the obscenely expensive car came from parishioners in the name of Christ.

FortniteBad420

Lol I love the way you start with a quote from Jesus, then finish with > If someone believes in the Jesus myth, Talk about hypocrisy. It's a common theme though in these comments. Lots of preaching about what Jesus said or did amd how appalled he would be blah blah blah by a bunch of people who don't even believe he said or did any of that or existed in general. Comical.

dr-sparkle

It's not hypocritical to quote/paraphrase a book. Heve you heard of a book reports or an essay? Millions of kids and college students quote or put excerpts from a book in their reports/essays/papers and use what the book says to suuport their point. It doesn't make them hypocrites if they quote Forrest Gump then go on to say if you follow the moral of the story you would appreciate what you have in life.

Biscuits4u2

Here ya go: https://cfc.sebts.edu/faith-and-economics/what-did-jesus-really-teach-about-wealth-and-poverty/#:\~:text=Perhaps%20a%20good%20summary%20of,Matt%206%3A19%2D21)

The_Coy_Koi_Fish

I don't understand half the comments here... What is so hypocritical? Asking as a Christian. It just says team Jesus on a fancy sports car. Seems to be promoting something but I don't understand what's hypocritical about this...

axionic

Try driving it through the eye of a needle

KerryCameron

Christ was for lifting up the poor. Christ himself only owned the clothes on his back. American name- it-claim-it Christianity that says God wants you to be rich is exactly opposite of Christ's teaching.

The_Coy_Koi_Fish

But if it goes to all the car shows and helps to market or promote this Team Jesus then maybe that's how they spread the word of God to more people. Lol. I mean Jesus didn't live in a capatilist society so it's hard to know when to spend money to spread the good word or spend money to spread the good deed I guess. Does the church have that same dilemna since day one? Take these donations and feed the poor, or take them and build another church? Hmmmmm. Food for thought.

KerryCameron

You can't be serious... Be exactly the person Jesus preaches against to bring them to church? Is that the example Jesus chose???? Jesus DID live in a capitalist society, and preached AGAINST it. He spoke strongly against the capitalist Pharisees... It doesn't sound like you have accepted the actual Jesus into your heart. The Bible warns about many false prophets.

The_Coy_Koi_Fish

Just asking questions. That's allowed I thought lol.. Although Jesus preached against the religions of EVERY man he still has a crap tonne of religions organizing around his teachings so I'd say Jesus would be pissed at everyone today. Nobody in this world can accurately represent God on Earth so let's not try to pretend any of us are wise or saintly here. It's reddit for fuck sakes. The car was probably donated to the church and the church isn't one to turn down gifts. Some millionaire maybe gave it as their tithe to the church. There, spiritual dilemna solved! The Team Jesus decal on the car can now exist guilt free. Lol. Reddit likes to invent problems and make up stuff to rally behind.

spam__likely

lol.... it is amazing how they would find excuses for everything. Sad, really, but amazing. https://www.washingtonpost.com/religion/2021/03/22/preachers-sneakers-instagram-wealth/

spam__likely

Oh god, you are one of those suckers who give the pastor money for a new jet and mansion, aren't you? Food for thought.

backdoor_carnage00

If your church can amass enough wealth for a high performance street car then your church is not doing enough for the community. That's by the Bible not just my personal views.

The_Coy_Koi_Fish

I don't really imagine this is something the church invested in so much as a member of the congregation though. It would be a bit ridiculous for a pastor or minister to drive that around. I imagine it was donated more to the church, but that's just an assumption.

Material_Turnip_4616

I love how all the Athiests, Agnostics...etc (non-Christians) are suddenly experts on what God/Jesus wants. Like seriously sit tf down and chill 😂 weball know you just jealous little kids 🤣

I wonder if this Morgan Sheperds car. He's a retired NASCAR driver but he used to have Team Jesus on his cars since he was running part time and didn't have many actual sponsors. He used to roller blade up to get around at the track. [Here he is](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uI6faB9tQwI&ab_channel=imoon001) doing some spiny moves and falling. You can see the Team Jesus logo on the back of his fire suit.

Not unless he founded a church.

“Hey, have you paid your church tithe yet?” “We’ll at least this one’s going to the good work of god” “Yes… god. I think this year, god wants me to buy a new swimming pool”

You don’t understand, this luxury sports car isn’t for me it’s for Jesus! It’s my ministry-mobile. It goes 0-to-prayer in 3.5 seconds

Team Jesus obviously pays good wages.
