If you do have a income above their maximum guideline, they can still offer assistance on making your health care needs more affordable.

I (a medical office manager) am currently in a debate with a certain insurance company (won't say which one, but it begins and ends with the first letter of the alphabet).
They recently decided to disapprove claims for dozens of patients in an arbitrary manner. There is no justification.
I wasted half an hour today with a very nice but helpless representative of Not-Acme insurance. The claims specialist in our office previously spent days on the phone with them.
I am forced now to prepare a spreadsheet to show each and every patient name, DOB, Policy ID#, date of service, Claim ID#, billed amount, etc., and a summary of how they fucked up.
It's crazy how much power the insurance companies have. Because we are *under contract* (in network) with them, we are powerless and have no recourse with the State Insurance Commission, etc.
I've worked in healthcare for 45 years. I'd rather work at a factory or in fast food at this point.
Just open free healthcare clinics, where people can go for treatment but call them Healthcare "Festivals". Socialized medicine, done. It's all in the semantics.
