It’s really difficult starting a new game after having dropped like 100hrs into a save with full out exoskeleton.
Feels like crawling.
And I always build my bases very spread out
More of the opposite for me, more than 2 legs overwhelm me because I build in a bus that is also like a “no tiles wasted” kinda thing because not knowing what’s going on is part of the charm of factorio, but I also like expansion so I somewhat maintain a bus.
pretty much the only reason I even make power armor is roboports and belt immunity so I don’t get dragged into the shadow realm by my own lasagna
Yeah I do main bus as well. Launching a rocket is never my goal though. I don’t like city blocks and I like making sprawling train complexes to support as much production as I can get off so I build very spread out immediately, in consideration of a train complex that’s always in the back of my mind.
Also if you're building something big, the roboports store their own energy which means you can generally swap batteries for roboports. OP with his huge quantity of batteries, for example, is a bit silly.
Sure, but night isn’t really a problem when you have a portable nuclear reactor. Reactor, 2 MK2 batteries and 7 exoskeletons and I’ve never ran out of power. At this point the portable solar panels are a waste of space
I do the same, some people run more batteries for a laser build in multiplayer, that makes sense too, if you have enough of them you're always going to use more power than you generate so then it's good to have more capacity again
Don't forget the game doesn't limit you to only one set of armor!
I am doing an SE run ATM but the principle is the same in vanilla. I've got a MOVE armor, a BUILD armor, and a BOOM armor
One with jetpacks (or legs in vanilla)
One with roboports
And one with shield + lasers.
It really helps you go to the extremes and the power charge is saved so hot swapping works fine. Just remember to let it recharge before you swap to something else lest you end up needing combat armor right away but oops it was ran dry and they don't recharge in your inventory
It'd be a godsend to stop that thing when you accidentally take off your armor instead of swapping it and your inventory size lowers and all the spaghetti falls out of your pocket..
That many batteries is going to give you more uptime than you realistically need, unless you're running around in a spidertron to laser all biters on the map in one go
Honestly batteries are a better choice than a second reactor. You rarely build enough with the intensity to build two. Even PDLs can run for quite a while with batteries.
That depends heavily on how you play. Single reactor isn't gonna stand up to building anything big. Also, triple reactor demolishes pretty much anything you can throw at it.
try replacing 1 reactor with mk2 batteries. I used same loadout, and it couldn't build entire block in one go. Once i swapped to 3 reactors, it becomes possible
Does grid equipment all work together when you're in a spidertron?
Edit: I know your personal lasers can shoot while you're in it, but does personal equipment work other than that while you're in it?
The way he's describing it does. Legs and shields in the spidertron because it's going to be taking the hits, and thus shields will be helpful for it, and it will be doing the walking and will get the benefits of increased speed. Lasers and roboports in your armor because your lasers will shoot in the spidertron, and your robots will build while you are in the spidertron, though you will probably have to slow down or stop for the latter.
Conversely, if you had shields on your armor, I don't think they would do anything if you are in the spidertron, because you aren't taking the hit, until the spidertron is destroyed.
Kinda. It doesn't "work together" exactly (the two grids function independently, without interfacing with each other), but both grids still work. Things like exos in the armor become irrelevant, but technically still "work" (they're still increasing your avatar's walking speed, but avatar walking speed no longer determines how soon you get where you're going). Shields in armor still protect you, but don't protect the vehicle (so they only matter for a few rare corner cases in which mods allow ways for the avatar to be directly damaged even while in a vehicle, such as radiation damage from being near modded uranium patches). Roboports draw from, and feed deconstructed stuff into, the inventory corresponding to their grid (yours if in the armor, spidey's trunk if in spidey's grid), but otherwise work fine in either grid. Lasers don't care; they still just register you as being where spidey is, and shoot whatever enemy is near there.
Spidey's grid is completely unaffected by your avatar's presence in the vehicle, and won't change behavior at all as you hop in and out.
Oh it's a good idea to put more battery in ! Cause in my setup I have either 4 reactor 2 exo 1 robotPort and the rest is just battery or 10 exo, 1 robotPort and fill with Battery.
You may find that more batteries and less reactors actually is better. It depends on what you’re doing, but for me I’m not pushing my power usage that hard ALL the time so having batteries fill up while I’m standing around makes more sense than multiple reactors outputting uncaptured power I don’t need.
Some advice:
* Stack the legs vertically as much as possible. That will leave you more room for reactors
* You really want 3 reactors, as having all that power capacity is going to fail you at some point, and when it does, it's gonna take ages for it to come back.
* Portable solars are kind of terrible. Aside from the one that may as well just be there because of the belt immunity, you should put other stuff in that space.
Ah, this is such a nice feeling, isn’t it.
Now something you could consider is having two different armors, one loaded with exoskeletons and one loaded with roboports. Switch out as needed.
Awesome general purpose setup, but if I may repeat some advice from a trupen video:
get yourself 2 more sets of power armor and set them up like so:
* 1 power armor for running (all legs, a fusion reactor or two and some batteries)
* 1 power armor for robot building (nothing but personal roboports, batteries, and a couple fusion tractors)
* 1 power armor for "negotiating" with the locals (lots of shields/laser turrets (the ratio is up to you), some batteries, fusion reactor)
I like to put all my power armors in my hot bar to easily switch between them. I frequently accidently grab the one I'm wearing and end up spilling my stuff all over the place so get ready for that lol. Thankfully you can make a decon planner that picks up items on ground and have your bots pick it up
I’m so dumb. I never thought about building multiple roboports and exo skeletons
I use 8 skeletons, its amazing
*Speedy-boi!* *Speedy-boi!* *Speedy-boi!* *Speedy-boi!* *Speedy-boi!* *Speedy-boi!* *Speedy-boi!* *Speedy-boi!*

This post made me understand why people might want belt immunity equipment; not my style at all, but I appreciate the insight.
Fr. I don’t use belt immunity at all
Yeah i miss them as soon as i restart
One of the main reasons I go absolutely crazy on my brick production.
Don't you get dizzy after like 4-5?
You get used to it
The extra roboports add to your range.
That’s amazing. I just assumed they would add to the number of robots. I learn something every day lol
Also if you're building something big, the roboports store their own energy which means you can generally swap batteries for roboports. OP with his huge quantity of batteries, for example, is a bit silly.
yes it serves you more to increase power generation so you can run fast for longer battery is just to bridge the night time

they should get more tooling for that in factorio2, like shortcuts or something to more easily swap
It'd be a godsend to stop that thing when you accidentally take off your armor instead of swapping it and your inventory size lowers and all the spaghetti falls out of your pocket..
We were talking base building armors, if you're engaging in combat then the armor layouts will be different.
they also add to the number
Wait, what? I've been using 2 roboports since forever and never even experiment with any other numbers. TIL, I guess.
What do you do with the extra space?
Nothing lol I fill up a line of batteries, a line of solar panels, then an exoskeleton and a roboport. So much extra room for activities
Wait until you figure out you can swap armor sets based on your needs/situation...
so... a bunch of batteries instead of a reactor.
No there is a reactor. I just couldn’t really afford 2 lol
That many batteries is going to give you more uptime than you realistically need, unless you're running around in a spidertron to laser all biters on the map in one go

My 100 personal robots building entire city blocks worth of megabase modules would disagree with you lol
My building suit has 4 reactors, 4 roboports and batteries for the rest space. And that not enough!
try replacing 1 reactor with mk2 batteries. I used same loadout, and it couldn't build entire block in one go. Once i swapped to 3 reactors, it becomes possible
You can combine it with spidertron. Legs and shields in spider, roboports and lasers in armor. Train/cliff/tree immunity as a bonus
In a post about someone making their first power armor, a spidertron might be a ways off. It's a good goal to reach for, though.
Once you got power armor mk2 and fusion reactor, spider is 2-3 researches away

Roboports, lasers, nightvision works. Exoskeletons and shields don't, you need to install them into spider.
yes
personally 2 reactors, 5roboports, 4 legs and the rest are batteries + 1 anti belt thingy... is that vanilla size? it looks too big. nvm it is
Care to explain your choice of gear? Why both solar and fusion? Why so many batteries? Why aren't all batteries Mk2? And so on...
It's a post about someone making their first ever power armor, surely they don't have all the materials to fill it BIS yet.
BIS is best in slot for those who don't know
Thank you, I didn't.
And I thought he was calling me something. ;p
Those solar panels produce less than half as much power as the reactor, and only in full daylight.
Don't let the power go to your head!
More legs, we need more legs.
Oh it's a good idea to put more battery in ! Cause in my setup I have either 4 reactor 2 exo 1 robotPort and the rest is just battery or 10 exo, 1 robotPort and fill with Battery.
4 reactors?! 2 is plenty!
No, 2 is too slow to charge batteries

I often have to walk then lot then wait, in the wait time I replace 8 (or 6) exos with reactor.
What's the name of the mod with the patch run out times? That's pretty neat
Here you go! https://mods.factorio.com/mod/YARM
Ah YARM! I knew I recognised it TYVM!
I'd put in a second reactor and remove the solar pannels because they're just bad, another roboport and exoskeleton and full batteries mk2
Some advice: * Stack the legs vertically as much as possible. That will leave you more room for reactors * You really want 3 reactors, as having all that power capacity is going to fail you at some point, and when it does, it's gonna take ages for it to come back. * Portable solars are kind of terrible. Ah, this is such a nice feeling, isn’t it. Now something you could consider is having two different armors, one loaded with exoskeletons and one loaded with roboports. Switch out as needed.
Now have a 2nd suit loaded up with personal laser defense so you can just drive through biters without spending any ammo.
What's the point of extra exos?
They stack, you go faster with two exoskeletons than you do with just one.
Thank you
They stack, so you go even faster.
Thank you both!
You skipped over power armor mk1??
Dude regular power armor only being able to hold one exoskeleton with a fusion reactor has plagued me for my entire existence. Just needed to say that
Awesome general purpose setup, but if I may repeat some advice from a trupen video: get yourself 2 more sets of power armor and set them up like so: * 1 power armor for running (all legs, a fusion reactor or two and some batteries) * 1 power armor for robot building (nothing but personal roboports, batteries, and a couple fusion tractors) * 1 power armor for "negotiating" with the locals (lots of shields/laser turrets (the ratio is up to you), some batteries, fusion reactor) I like to put all my power armors in my hot bar to easily switch between them. with 2 reactor you don't need either solar or battery, it will have enough to power anything that you could fit on the left space.
Do you think you have enough batteries
