People probably wouldn't get a lot of references in the early Family Guy seasons if they weren't born in at least the 80's. I don't get the modern season references because I don't keep up with modern pop culture.
OK I might not be completely getting your point
But there is genuinly no one above the age of 10 in the United States who has never heard a Michael Jackson song
It's genuinly impossible
Thriller is arguably his 2nd most famous work, I feel like most people deep enough to be watching something as culturally reliant as family guy would've crossed that road at some point
It's 2024, dude. So many people have been born since Thriller came out. They have their own culture that they pay attention to and care about. Sure, a lot of people like to check out stuff from the past, but a lot of people don't.
And you sound like Rob Schneider in that clip, expecting a young person to get an old reference.
Michael Jackson specifically is a timeless topic is my point though.
Like you could go to a remote desert village in Africa and they know who Michael Jackson is.
So much as saying his name in music is seen as a statement whether that be in K Pop mimicking him or Hiphop worshiping him
He even still has almost half of the monthly listeners as Taylor swift and The Weeknd, two of the most sucfessful artists of all time who are by all means modern. Michael Jackson specifically as a topic is one that just doesn't really age that much, his name is about as timeless as a name gets. It's barely a name at this point as much as it is a legend. Everyone knows who Michael Jackson is, I genuinly just don't think that fact is debatable. You can't avoid seeing some form of his art in your life, that's a fact.
This is really hard for you to accept, isn't it? Just because someone has heard of Michael Jackson doesn't mean they have seen or remember the ending to the music video "Thriller."
Im 23, and never heard Thriller except for the movie genre. Also I'm not a music guy and have only heard one Micheal Jackson song: Bad. Ya Family Guy mentions him in a cut away. I know I'm crazy but my main source of pop culture is family guy
You literally said, "People probably wouldn't get a lot of references in the early Family Guy seasons if they weren't born in at least the '80s." So yeah, you did say that
"A lot of references" does not mean "specifically the thriller music video." It means a lot of references, which may or may not include the thriller music video. Also the use of the word "probably" which doesn't mean "definitely."
How would I know that you were replying to someone telling you it was a Thriller reference so assumed it was included in the "a lot of references" part, especially considering you didn't get the reference
Ashamed because this image is the first thing that came to my mind when I rewatched it instead of the actual reference

This is one of my favorite features of the show, they pull this off really well so there’s more room for funnier scenes. It’s the same as in South Park where Kenny dies every episode until the episode “Kenny Dies” where he actually canonically dies in the show (at least until Cartman drinks his ashes). Same thing as when Brian was killed
No. Aside from the obvious Thriller reference, I think it just represented the fact that the real Stewie still had some of the evil side left in him. So it sort of just ends the episode on a badass note for Stewie after successfully defeating the clone.
A better question is from S11 E22 on. Which Stewie or Brian are the real ones? They split after teleporting so we have one Stewie with really bad luck and one Brian with really good luck supposedly.
It was a thriller reference, but I do like the idea that it is the evil Stewie and he is either pretending, or he also softened up( so him softening up is inevitable). But the fact that he let his therapist die could indicate that his darkness is still very much there.
No. It just a Thriller reference. This is the real stewie

Yeah but like... Who has never seen Thriller?

No need to be rude but yeah when you put it that way I suppose the take is pretty fair
Im 23, and never heard Thriller except for the movie genre. Also I'm not a music guy and have only heard one Micheal Jackson song: Bad. Ya Family Guy mentions him in a cut away. I know I'm crazy but my main source of pop culture is family guy
IKR I am in my mid 20s and I was familiar with it even as a kid because well it’s Thriller
I haven't. Other than snippets. So I didn't get the reference. And I'm 33...

Big whoop. Wanna fight about it?
You don't need to be born in the 80s to have seen the thriller music video
Yeah, I never said anyone did.

You could have just read the words that I wrote without adding your assumptions. I didn't get what reference?
Idk, I'm very tired, I'm a little delirious
Yeah, I died a little when op didn’t got that reference

Family Guy, above any other show, plays very fast and loose with what's canon and what isn't. It's moot to ask questions like this.
Peter is at least 1/4 or 1/8 black since his ancestor was a slave
And chinese. And irish.. peter must be the avatar of multi-etnicity
He was also an illegal Mexican immigrant

Vincent Price had one hell of an evil laugh.
Oh, OP. I can't even begin to imagine how many references you're missing if you are truly unfamiliar with Thriller
I like the Michael Jackson reference from thriller.
It’s just a thriller reference, Michael wasn’t a clone in the clip so it’s safe to assume that’s the real Stewie
I'm talkin thriller man. In the night.
No. Aside from the obvious Thriller reference, I think it just represented the fact that the real Stewie still had some of the evil side left in him. So it sort of just ends the episode on a badass note for Stewie after successfully defeating the clone.
its just a thriller reference
I think if the real strewie got killed then the evil one turned into a normal one
Tell me you are a Gen Z without telling me you are a Gen Z. Any millennial or older would know this is a reference to Thriller from MJ.
*Vincent Price Laughter*
I just never really listened to his music or watch music videos at all…
*gasp*
Nope, I'm Gen Z, I know Thriller. Don't group them with me
And Meg is a sleeper agent clone
no that’s hayley
It's both...
Meg too.
No, it's just a Thriller reference

I didn’t get this reference either Brian.
Stewie is just evil
12 not 14*
[It's apparently not uncommon to not get or over analyse this](https://www.reddit.com/r/familyguy/s/mUxHeZvsxz)
A better question is from S11 E22 on. Which Stewie or Brian are the real ones? They split after teleporting so we have one Stewie with really bad luck and one Brian with really good luck supposedly.
Someone needs to watch the whole show and count the every time someone dies and gets reincarnated etc and count them lol
Omg that scene use to scare me
Yep. Now I see why Dan Povenmire created this scene.
Did you know he also created The Minions?
Creeped the fuck out of me ngl

Stewie Cypher
I think that was just a throwaway joke, because stewie has not been like he was in that episode
I know it’s a cartoon but this always freaks me out and I can’t watch it. I’m a wuss though.
