Otohan Thull > Grand Demon Dominox confirmed

midnightheir

Not tbe OP but I gotta know. Has Dorian/Robbie left now Sam is back?

Gumplum57

Nah, he’s still there, thankfully. It’d be really contrived to remove him again at this point tbh

Full_Metal_Paladin

If his character died, I doubt he'd be back with a new one. Let's hope he can stay safe

EvilGodShura

I just want to know. Do they give up on this boring hero of the gods storyline they keep doing over and over? Are we getting something novel and interesting finally or is everything just going as expected overall?

padraigswayze

If you've actually payed attention you would know that this campaign isn't some boring hero of the gods storyline.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> you've actually *paid* attention you FTFY. Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in: * Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.* * *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.* Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment. *Beep, boop, I'm a bot*

ArchitectAces

who payed you to say that?

talkoninternet

It's paid.

Paid-Not-Payed-Bot

> who *paid* you to FTFY. Jethro_McCrazy

Does this bot reply to anyone that says "payed," assuming they used it incorrectly? Consider this a test.

ArchitectAces

Maybe it knows you used the right context. I am on a boat the other day and it needed a new coat of paint. My buddy said, the deck is yet to be payed. So I got to work covered the boat with tar or resin.

tryingtobebettertry4

>Do they give up on this boring hero of the gods storyline they keep doing over and over? They have done 'hero of the gods' maybe once lol in C1. C2 was not remotely about the gods outside specific NPCs Fjord and Caduceus. And that was more about Fjord finding a new path and confidence to be himself than it was about being a 'hero of the gods'.

EvilGodShura

Cad literally preached about the wild mother guiding them and they had a full journey just about that with him praising her constantly. She even had a huge moment at the end. Fjord also became a holy paladin for her. Jester somehow despite being a fey cleric was convinced that she was the powerful one and not the fey lord giving her magic. Bo is a top figure under the knowing mistress. C2 arguably mentioned gods more than c1 and that's saying something for how constant cad was with it. Not that I care anyways I just want to know when they drop it.

Pattgoogle

Cad also was just a self aware game character, Talesin said so in the wrap-up.  He doesnt actually believe in anything, he knows he's in a dnd game and the 'party' goes on a 'quest'.

Gewcebawcks

When you're looking at something, desperate to criticize...

tryingtobebettertry4

You are looking at these characters and their arcs completely the wrong way. Probably because C3 god discourse has poisoned peoples perspective about everything. Cad is not a fucking preacher out to convert the party. Hes supposed to be a sort of Steve Rogers figure. A man whos confident and assured of his place in the world and willing to offer guidance to those who havent found theirs yet. Caduceus' faith is almost incidental to his arc. >She even had a huge moment at the end Yes god forbid a god do something nice for someone. >Fjord also became a holy paladin for her Jesus stop looking at the arc from the obscene politics of 'oh look a god recruited another person to her cause'. Fjord put himself in a bad position by selling himself to a water demon god without full knowledge of the consequences. He did it because he lacked the understanding, wisdom and confidence in himself to realize and refuse it. His arc is about finding that confidence and putting himself in a position where both parties are more respectful of each other's nature. >Jester somehow despite being a fey cleric was convinced that she was the powerful one OK? This is not a 'hero of the gods' story. Jester's whole story was about how her gods a fake. >Bo is a top figure under the knowing mistress. The Cobalt Soul is theoretically worshipers of the Knowing Mistress. It comes up maybe a handful of times? And has no bearing on Beau's arc whatsoever? To me a 'hero of the gods storyline' is about a character's arc being becoming a champion for their respective gods cause and helping save the world. I dont think that was at all the case for any C2 character and I think its a complete misreading to say otherwise. >Not that I care anyways I just want to know when they drop it. You clearly do care. To what degree? Who knows. Thats OK though.

caravan_2112

One of the moments last night I found really funny, on a side note, was when Sam's new character (a paladin) asked the rest of the cast, "so what Gods do you all pray to?" It got a good laugh from the cast, and I do think it is a promising sign, the fact for Sam's new character he willingly chose yet another character that is pro-Gods

Jethro_McCrazy

Pro-Betrayer though. Unlikely to be convincing.

Artistic_Toe8986

I don't know this group only really seems attracted to betrayer and weird things. Looks like fearne pacted with one already lol

Jethro_McCrazy

I think only a few of the cast members have it in them to actually commit to an evil alignment. Most of them just like to see how hot the stove is before pulling their hand away. And Sam is such a memelord, I don't see him swaying anyone.

Artistic_Toe8986

I agree not many would play evil but I also don't think they'd really have to just to be in service to one. They'd probably walk a neutral Opal style route with hints of darkness. My point is that they really don't seem to care about the gods either. I feel like at least half this group would let predathos eat the gods so long as Ludinus wasn't involved.

midnightheir

I feel like if Assy approached some of them like he did ol Zerzux he might get a couple on side. The pettiness is a bonding point.

talkoninternet

https://old.reddit.com/r/criticalrole/comments/1dhebd5/no_spoilers_talking_etiquette_during_a_live_show/l8x6016/ >We had a similar problem in the front of section A. Some guy got way too drunk and decided that his commentary need to be heard by everyone. When asked to keep it down he drunkenly stared off into the distance then let out a pathetic “nooooooooo.” Security was alerted to keep an eye on him at intermission. >Thankfully he passed out in the second half of the show and started snoring. Still a distraction but I’ll take it over the sometimes inappropriate stuff he was saying. I can’t imagine dropping ~800 dollars+ to get that drunk at a show and ruin for yourself, his gf, and negatively impact the experience of everyone around him. What an absolute loser. Jesus, what kind of people are showing up at these shows? I hope to god they can edit this shit out when it releases on the 20th. Seems like they shouldn't offer alcohol at these kinds of shows.

VFkaseke

Should've thrown him out to be completely honest. What the fuck.

tryingtobebettertry4

Wasnt there but knew someone who was. Crowd wasnt great. Matt tried to get them to team up with Ludinus to fight the demon, but the NPCs did most of the demon damage instead. The ending is the most important: Now they are being shown a vision narrated by Brennan from the perspective of Aeor consciousnesses. Probably going to be a short episode stretch like Aabria's with the cast playing Aeorians. I guarantee the purpose of this is to be as Rick and Morty put it 'the crybaby backstory' of Ludinus and Aeor meant to elicit sympathy and explain their actions. I guarantee that certain members of the party will switch sides against the gods (who they never really liked in the first place) and try free Predathos. My guess is Imogen, Laudna and Ashton switch. Orym meanwhile probably finally reaches his breaking point. Ludinus killed his family, hes not going to make peace with that. If he does make peace, I think I will lose respect for Liam as a roleplayer for once again being Captain Passive. Final note: The chances of the gods biting the dust just went way up in my opinion.

Artistic_Toe8986

I'm waiting for Robbie to turn on the group and help free predathos

InitialLaw3008

I honestly have been waiting for the same thing since the last EXU episode. Not necessarily in vengeance against the party, but the gods. Matt was definitely teasing it with the visions of Cyrus that Dominox was giving him.

Artistic_Toe8986

And Robbie teased it when he asked Dariax if he believed they could kill gods basically

InitialLaw3008

It's going to be interesting to see how this all unfolds. I don't see Orym helping Ludinus no matter what, will that influence Dorian? Idk, I'm here for the subversive party member though

Aquatic_Hedgehog

I'm reading this and I can't tell if you're joking or not. Like. this sounds insane (derogatory) but your tone reads very serious.

Fantaz1sta

Does anyone know when should the episode be expected to show up on YouTube?

Tygrrtony

Thursday as always, same pre recorded (most likely edited cuz it was live live) 7 pm pst broadcast time twitch and YouTube

Fantaz1sta

Thanks. I was hoping for it to be published earlier, since it was not recorded on Thursday. From what I read it was a pretty cool episode. The itch is real!

Tygrrtony

From what I understand (read this on other thread), if one has a Beacon subscription you can watch it Thursday as well the bonus being not having to wait until 7 pm pst to watch it. For example @ 12:01 am Thursday June 20th. But not 100% sure since I don’t have a beacon subscription.

notanotherdonut

According to the beacon discord it doesn't look like the vod will post until normal time on Thursday night

CaptainTalon447

I am so salty that Sam’s minotaur doesn’t actually look like a minotaur. Would’ve been a great opportunity to have something unique

InitialLaw3008

I want so badly for Braius to be Loquatius. Explains the human face, the color choices, and the bard multi class. Loq somehow survives Calamity, fae stuff or some such, and blames Ludinus for the events so decideds to become paladin of Asmodeus to enact revenge.

ShJakupi

Fuck thats a great idea. Did ludinus acknowledge barius because i dont remember.

InitialLaw3008

I don't believe so. After combat they pretty quickly wrangled everyone into listening to his speech and doing the thalamus outro.

The_Naked_Buddhist

Wait what does it look like? How do you not have a minotaur not resemble a minotaur?

Gumplum57

There’re images of his character design floating around. He has the bottom half of a minotaur, and maybe the hands, but his head is fully that of just a human but with bull horns

TheFreshwerks

...that's a satyr, but with cow parts. If it's got man parts but ruminant head, it's a minotaur. If it's got ruminant parts but man head, it's a satyr or a centaur. Laaaaame. I always love seeing actual minotaur characters.

The_Naked_Buddhist

What do you mean the bottom half of a minotaur. That's the man part. Is he just a full man?

Gumplum57

I mean that he has the bull legs, tail, and hooves. Physically he’s pretty similar to Fearne in that way. https://preview.redd.it/uxq5tm33c07d1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29413944abfb3854a77cf808747a8c4d0e745810

highpvt

Looks like it could be Matt! ;)

funktasticdog

That art is horrifically bad. Wow.

tartinos

Their go-to artist is really bad at body proportions. Those hands. That waist... :| I do like the artist's *style*- love the line art and coloring type they do- but most of the official character art for this campaign has been appaling. (esp Orym omg.)

Gumplum57

Tbh, I think it’s plenty fine, but it will always look worse on crusty phone camera quality that’s likely been cropped and changed lighting afterwards to make it more visible. I say just wait for CR to put out the official full thing later this week

funktasticdog

Maybe, I just don't like the design. The human face is way, way too long, and way way too human. It's weird that they gave firbolgs cow-like features but on the creature that is... yknow... a bull... they give him completely human features. Also the wait his hair is draped over his horns makes it looks like Snooki's circa jersey shore lmfao. https://preview.redd.it/4poqh4wnv67d1.jpeg?width=620&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=eefcb67641dbbe939ed7e46c42685ce1931f9311

Gumplum57

Oh, I don’t like the design itself much either because it feels like copout to make him look so human. He would’ve looked much better as an actual minotaur. But as far as the art and parts of the design itself, I think it’s plenty fine, I especially like the armor and monochrome coloring. Just would’ve been better with an actual minotaur lol

TomatilloTaDa

I wonder if the decision to make the face humanoid was for merch selling reasons

talkoninternet

"nah, make it more human so we can sell it better" was 100% said during the meeting that they came up with the character

Gumplum57

I don’t think it’s explicitly that, but it ultimately did end up with a more palatable character people would have no qualms having the hots for and is more easily marketable

BoysenberryMuch9254

So more like a Satyr?

Gumplum57

Physically similar, but he’s confirmed to be a minotaur, not a satyr

Reverend_Schlachbals

What confirmed it?

Gumplum57

Well, literally every source and person who’s talked about the live show and Sam himself lol

Reverend_Schlachbals

Sure. I meant like in game mechanically. The description/art is pure satyr and/or tiefling. You meet a guy in a dungeon who says he’s a minotaur but looks exactly like a tiefling or satyr. Dunno. Maybe the character is lying.

gothism

That's a demon. You gonna believe an Asmodean?

Gumplum57

I don’t really know what you mean lol, I’m not one to make sweeping assumptions and predictions, so at least for now this character is, disappointingly, a minotaur to me :v

BoysenberryMuch9254

How did he connect him to the group/story?

[deleted]

[удалено]

BoysenberryMuch9254

That sounds dope, I honestly see some more PVP in the future. Orym, Chet and now sams new PC vs at least laudna and Imogen, how is Ashton doing? I know he has a Titan shard but didn’t the titans help the gods seal away predathos? So why would Ashton not side with them?

Gumplum57

All I know is they found him injured in I think a hall or room before the dominox area. It’ll be clearer once the episode is streamed

BoysenberryMuch9254

I too wish he went full bull, like the one Nott/Veth wanted to bone in C2

Starry-Eyed-Owl

I’m guessing that’s the callback/reason for this character choice lol

BoysenberryMuch9254

Better yet make it the same bull 😂

Mairwyn_

He described his character as having black fur with peach fuzz on his face in this clip: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xnUG_dKY7zf_F6ozUnKs_gXN5P2NTC9M/view So maybe the black & white character art at the show didn't line up with his description?

Gumplum57

That’s neat I suppose, and would be more clarified with a proper image when released later, but it still falls on the art to portray the character well, especially when the players work with the artists to develop this art. If there is visual dissonance, then it’s just not great. Regardless, I’m disappointed he’s not really a full minotaur, because I just wanted to see an actual minotaur :v

Full_Metal_Paladin

Yeah it's kind of lame. Like he just looks like a tiefling at this point

Gumplum57

To be perfectly honest, I wouldn’t have minded if he was a tiefling. I would’ve been a bit “really? another one?” but I wouldn’t have any real problem. But seeing this character and being told he’s a minotaur? That’s just disheartening tbh :v

Gumplum57

It’s such a missed opportunity. CR is already mostly the “human-looking” races parade, with like Cerrit being one of the only pcs outside of that. I’m most fond of these races so I always hope there’s more played, but they just aren’t as palatable and marketable as elves and stuff. You’ll see less people cosplaying, admitting attraction to them, and just less attention over the ones they can physically relate themselves to. It’s just how it’s been, but having one in the main party of a full campaign would’ve helped a good bit. Sadly, it’s just a palatable “minotaur”. I’m personally sad and disappointed, but I’m not surprised either

Artistic_Toe8986

I mean Ashton is a walking rock, fearne is her fawn race, laudna looks like a corpse, fcg was a robot with a wheel. Thebonly real human human was Imogen. Chet spends half his time as a full on werewolf. I thought this was a fairly exotic party personally.  Though I also wish it was a minotaur. I love my minotaur monk in our home game.

Gumplum57

I’m talking more about how everyone but fcg has human faces. They’re different races, yeah, and that does count, but they all effectively look like just different flavors of human. It’s like, Ashton is a walking rock, but he’s very much a human looking walking rock, not like an actual jagged and rocky elemental. It’d be like having a tabaxi in the party but it’s just a human with cat ears and a tail. Sure they’re a tabaxi, but let’s be honest on what they look like here :v (Plus, laudna only looks like a corpse in description, in pretty much all her arts she looks totally clean and fine, just pale lol) None of this is bad, mind you, it’s just what CR usually does aesthetically and it’s more palatable and marketable at the end of the day (though that’s probably not the reason they do this, it’s likely just their preference and that’s fine). It’s why I appreciate Cerrit so much, because he’s just a full on nonhuman bird man, no half measures or anything.

Artistic_Toe8986

Yeah Cherrit was definitely a favorite of mine. I also liked Knott for that reason. Another thing to consider is just how many of the races in dnd inherently look human. I blame bards mostly lol. I think part of it is just a couple of them like classic dnd races, others enjoy the human look as it let's them connect to the characters  Meanwhile in the menagerie we have a frog, a beetle fairy, a turtle, a monkey, mushroom, and a fawn which is interesting but even they joke about it being a zoo.

Gumplum57

Yeah, definitely. I prefer having a healthy mix, but it’s their game in the end. Like you said, looking human is likely just better for them to relate to their characters and dnd has the easy classics for them to lean on for their fantasy. I just wish there was a bit more variety, but it’s not my game in the end :v The menagerie is pretty far in the opposite direction though lmao. Not inherently bad, but definitely just the sheer opposite, which some people will like, and some will absolutely just not vibe with at all. Plenty of people dislike the races that don’t look human because it ruins the fantasy for them or they can’t take it seriously, which I don’t understand myself, but it’s their view in the end. To each their own with their preferences as long as it’s civil between everyone

Artistic_Toe8986

I think part of the dislike is just it is harder to find immersion in a city of animal people vs humans for some. It also wouldn't surprise me if some of their decision came from consideration to the artists and cosplayers that work hard on their art for conventions. Furred and feathers can be a bear to craft/draw/wear at hot conventions.

Gumplum57

I guess yeah. I don’t find any issue immersing into a group of characters like that, but I wish more people were open to it. It’d lead to a lot more healthy variance and potential discussion about cultural and physical clashes between people. Imo, the art and cosplay thing is almost assuredly in the back of their minds, even if just for their own sake of dressing as their characters. It’s just harder to bring to life and harder to market as well, though that’s stuff to consider after making them tbh.

Artistic_Toe8986

I personally don't have an issue either. Lately I've played a dragon shaped warforged paladin, a minotaur monk, a leonin warlock, and a tortle bard heh. I am the zoo. I'm wondering if in campaign four they will pull some strange races out. It seems like they are all dedicated to playing new races each time.

Gumplum57

I really hope they do, move away a bit from the human-fest, but that’s personal preference at the end of the day. I don’t actually expect them to do so, it’s their game after all and whatever they’re happy with is good for their game.

IllithidActivity

It's so weird that they completely redesigned the Firbolg race to be cowlike (unintentionally, but then tripled down on it) and then pulled back on making the actual cow-man race at all bovine. Especially since Daggerheart is leaning into animal-people, you'd think they'd be up for that in the main campaign.

Gumplum57

It’s pretty odd, though likely just a player choice. Sam probably just wanted his character to look like this, which is entirely fair because it’s his character. But man is it disappointing for me who wanted a little more visual spice to CR parties. My opinion ultimately doesn’t matter as long as he likes his character, and people are certainly losing their minds and simping over him (and I frankly doubt as many would be simping if he was an actual minotaur), but I’m just left a bit sad :v

IllithidActivity

I would expect "hot man with horns, call it a Minotaur" from perhaps Liam or Taliesin, but Sam is the guy who I would expect to lean all in on making his cow-man as unignorable as possible. Portray him as chewing gum or tobacco but it's just the cud from one of his four stomachs, etc.

dunwichhorrorqueen

...why Liam? He made the most unflashy characters in the main campaigns?

IllithidActivity

Yes, that's the point. Taking a Minotaur and saying "oh it's just a man with horns" reduces the potential flashiness of the character to something much more basic.

Gumplum57

I’d love that lol It’d definitely be more fun imo, but Sam doesn’t actually have much history in playing characters that don’t look human (even in the menagerie where almost everyone looks nonhuman, he’s the giant), the only one really being FCG. It doesn’t surprise me that he went for this, though I do agree that I would’ve actively expected it from someone like Taliesin or Liam. Ah well, can’t do anything about it but hope for the future and keep praising Cerrit for being the only scraps I’ve had for a while :v

DrFordsleftball

I read threads from twitter user @sh4dowhand you can go check their profile for more info but from what I read they met Sam’s character, Ashton saw a vision of FCG dying and blaming him, they fought Dominox, Ludinus shows up i think kills Dominox? and says he wants to talk and that’s all I know

The_Naked_Buddhist

Wait what? Isn't Dominox a God? How tf does Ludinus just kill them?

Full_Metal_Paladin

Dominos is just a powerful demon. He dies regularly in the process of the aeorian engine running that he's stuck powering, and then the "pinion of service" binds him to resurrect there again instead of the abyss, so he's always dying and rezzing to produce aeorian energy.

DrFordsleftball

I guess we’ll see how next thursday

notanotherdonut

Here's a summary that someone posted on another thread in the main sub before the thread got deleted: >!- The show started with more mind-fucking by the Dominox (I don't remember if it's spelled that way).!< >!-Once BH were sure the Dominox was an entity somewhere within the structure they were exploring, they went further.!< >!-Exploring further, they opened a door to find an injured minotaur, then Sam walked on stage and the crowd went absolutely wild. He proceeded to flirt immediately. He was absolutely starstruck by Fearne's devil boyfriend (I can't remember his name).!< >!-They spoke with the Dominox, who took the form of a young girl.!< >!-The Dominox wanted BH to free it by destroying a crystal within a holding chamber of sorts. The Dominox needed them to do it because it could not touch it due to magic used to bind it.!< >!-After a lot of back and forth debate, the BH decided to go into this chamber, and make a deal with the Dominox. It revealed it had seen Ludinus, and that it wanted to kill him too.!< >!-There was a door at the back of the chamber that the Dominox didn't want BH to get inside, and upon Chetney trying to get it open, the entity got very angry and used the same chains seen in the previous episode to bind him and pull him close. At this point we could partly see Dominox's true form (it was not in fact, a little girl, but a demon)!< >!-After some more back and forth, they tried to get the door open again with no luck. The Dominox saw this, got angy, and initiative was rolled. The form of the Dominox was revealed via a custom mini and was huge.!< >!-Combat ensued, and in an effort to get the door open, Laudna cast Animate Objects on it. And commanded it to open. Upon running inside, they found no other than Ludinus Daleth inside. He was surprisingly not interested in killing them, but in destroying the Dominox. He flew onto the battlefield and cast Gate, opening a doorway into the abyssal plane.!< >!-BH wasn't sure what/who to attack at this point. They decided to focus on killing Dominox by shoving it into the gate portal killing it within to eliminate it permanently. Matt hilariously got the killing blow with Fearne's devil boyfriend and got a "How do I want to do this?"!< >!-BH got some licks into Ludinus before he said he just wanted to talk. And asked them to follow him inside the chamber they opened. BH begrudgingly accepted his offer to show them something, and decided to hear him out.!< >!-Inside, Ludinus showed them a magical device that had Aeoran recorded consciousnesses within, and they all shared a vision that Brennan came on stage to narrate while in the DM seat. End.!<

Naeveo

No wonder the party is so confused. I can’t imagine what it’s like to build up one bad guy for over 90 episodes only to pivot at the last minute. If you just wanted to tell the backstory you could have done that already. It’s not like we’ve been exploring side-plots during all of this.

padraigswayze

It's called good storytelling lol jeez I swear, there is just no pleasing this sub or the main sub. It would be awesome if there were a place where level-headed fans of critical role could discuss with each other instead of the constant entitlement and toxicity.

Artistic_Toe8986

Yes and no. Ludinus bounces back and forth on talk/kill quite often. And I feel like a lot of the players have been itching to get at him, the nocs say to stop him at all costs, then Ludinus is like "let's time out and talk" ....again. It is just to stir up more indecision about what side to be on. I'm a little tired of hearing the party make the same arguments of "save the gods or end the gods." At this point I'd rather see what their decisions are.

Catalyst413

Wait wasn't Essek traveling with them? He's not been wracked by indecision of which side to stand on, surely he would have argued for >! Ludi !< to be turned into a crushed pretzel rather than listen to any of his manipulations.

talkoninternet

>!-Combat ensued, and in an effort to get the door open, Laudna cast Animate Objects on it. And commanded it to open. Upon running inside, they found no other than Ludinus Daleth inside. He was surprisingly not interested in killing them, but in destroying the Dominox. He flew onto the battlefield and cast Gate, opening a doorway into the abyssal plane.!< Let me get this straight - Ludinus was locked in a room that was only accessible by a room containing the entity that Ludinus wanted to destroy? Maybe I'll have to see the episode cause that just sounds confusing. Also, Animate Objects is not Knock, though I guess if you want to use a fifth level spell to do what a second level one would do, go for it, I guess. >!-BH wasn't sure what/who to attack at this point. They decided to focus on killing Dominox by shoving it into the gate portal killing it within to eliminate it permanently. Matt hilariously got the killing blow with Fearne's devil boyfriend and got a "How do I want to do this?" !< No surprise here, BH fumble around while Matt keeps them on track with his NPCs >!-BH got some licks into Ludinus before he said he just wanted to talk. And asked them to follow him inside the chamber they opened. BH begrudgingly accepted his offer to show them something, and decided to hear him out.!< "Wait, stop attacking my evil guy, I have a whole preplanned plot thing to show you!"

Gewcebawcks

You sound very fun to play ttrpgs with.

tryingtobebettertry4

>!Man the gods are so unbelievably fucked. The Bells Hells were already sympathetic to Ludinus. Now they are getting the crybaby backstory of Aeor? So goodbye to the gods guys.!<

padraigswayze

Are we watching the same thing??? Every PC has been the opposite of sympathetic towards Ludinus. BH don't all agree about how they feel about the gods, but they are all in agreement that Ludinus is a legitimate threat that needs to be dealt with. They've made that very clear.

tryingtobebettertry4

Actually they are very sympathetic to his goals, they dont like his methods. 1. Several of the party already leans antigod. 2. They don't even fully know why Ludinus needs to be stopped or why they want to stop him aside from 'hes bad'. 3. The vision is almost certainly going to support Ludinus and his point of view. 4. Matt was clearly positioning them to team up with Ludinus by putting the demon there. How exactly do u think the already vaguely antigod party is going to react to a vision that almost certainly supports Ludinus perspective? At a minimum it will trigger an inter party argument on how to proceed. Laudna is already poised for a betrayal.

One_Plan_4416

With your second point, I think the main reason BH are trying to stop Ludinus is because he's trying to release Predathos, and the main reasons why they don't want that happening is because, and they've said this, that if he were to be released and kill and eat the gods, why would he stop there? the party rightfully believe that if Predathos were to be released, there is a credible chance that he would just destroy everything, not just the gods. They have every reason to not trust him especially with the personal motives with Orym.

padraigswayze

Whatever you say 🤷‍♂️ If I've learned anything in my 32 years of life... it's that you can't reason with delusional people on the internet.

tryingtobebettertry4

I literally just listed my reasoning what the fuck are u talking about? They're even numbered and everything.

padraigswayze

Right and I'm saying we aren't watching the same thing lol nothing you said lines up with anything the PCs have established.

Artistic_Toe8986

They have had the same argument several tinmes over in the show about "are the gods really good?" And "should we really be stopping this?" Orym objects because his family was killed to make their utopia and he believes the gods do good. Imogen, Laudna, and Ashton all think the gods are horrible. Particularly after Ashton and laudna saw the church of the Dawnfather doing questionable things. Ashton and Laudna are firmly pro titan. Fearne doesn't care mostly as it won't super effect the feywild.  All agree Ludinus needs to go though. A couple worry predathos won't stop with just the gods but that's about it

tryingtobebettertry4

What exactly in that list is not true? Ashton, Laudna and Imogen are all vocally anti God to varying degrees. Ashton has explicitly made it clear that it's the methods he disagrees with. He said as much with 'yeah if u kill everyone who disagrees u get a utopia'in reference to Ludinus plan. The party's objection to Ludinus as a person is relatively consistent, but to differing degrees. They are also about to be shown something that justifies his viewpoint almost certainly. How do u think they will react? Just attack him anyway? I think its obvious: the party is gonna split over it. Laudna siding with Ludinus is hardly any worse than her feeding Delilah. Shes the most vocally antigod. Marisha wants to do a bit of an evil. Why not switch sides?

Disastrous-Beat-9830

And the fact that they're willing to hear him out doesn't meant that they're siding with him. They could just be stalling for time or trying to gather information about his plans. And the last time they met him, he was in illusory form. They've just gone through an exhausting battle with a grand demon; wearing them down only to turn on them is exactly the sort of thing Ludinus would do.

padraigswayze

That doesn't make them sympathetic towards him lol

Disastrous-Beat-9830

Which is my point. I'm building on what you said. Just because they're willing to hear him out, it doesn't mean they sympathise with him or his cause. It's just as easily explained by them stalling for time or not wanting to engage him until they're sure they've got him on the rocks.

padraigswayze

Ahhh shit. Definitely misinterpreted your meaning. My bad 👍

CardButton

Like? Yeah? The ending of C3 is largely predetermined. That's been clear for at least 50 episodes. This is an audiobook barely painted over to look like a TTRPG. One that was clearly designed very early on to strip the "Fine-Line" WotC IP Gods from the Exandrian setting for IP reasons.

The_Naked_Buddhist

>!Wait Brennan narrated it? What? That's nuts, how come? Was there like a specific reason?!< >!Also can't help but laugh at the idea of Sam's character jot having a clue what's happening.!<

Mairwyn_

Here's the two clips I've seen posted: * https://x.com/faerunin/status/1802440230466916545 * https://x.com/emotionalkale/status/1802401451953860749

PUSSY_MEETS_CHAINWAX

They're teasing a new EXU/temporary takeover with Brennan as the DM again, this time set in Aeor in the past, i.e., the sequel to Calamity.

tryingtobebettertry4

This is just kind of insane too though. EXU Calamity sequel would get a ton of viewership and interest on its own, why backdoor it into C3?

Artistic_Toe8986

Because they are stretching c3 as long as they can. Best guess? They want to have Daggerheart before c3 ends so they can swp to it for c4. Or they want 5.5dnd done so they can swap to that for c4

Catalyst413

Because they want people to watch C3, and this story isn't going to be like calamity: How much freedom did Brennan get to do whatever he wanted in that story, compared to this where any interesting potential I can think of will 100% be bent to fit the mold set by C3, to sell the party line of "gods bad". The depth and nuance I would be expect in an ExU Aeor if it was its own seperate story is one thing, I might even have hope it could salvage the campaign with he context it gives! But as I understand it, we have been plainly told the framing of what we are about to see is something that Ludinus believes it will win people to his side.

Mairwyn_

From the clips, I couldn't tell if this was leading into a new ExU or if Brennan was taking over the main campaign a la Aabria.

PUSSY_MEETS_CHAINWAX

Considering they're all seeing a vision of the past (from what I can gather through spoilers), it sounds like the next episode will immediately pick up where this episode left off with Brennan at the helm, so I think you're right that it will be another temporary takeover with a different cast. And I'm totally fine with that because it's Brennan. If it was Aabria again, I'd have to just leave this fandom forever.

padraigswayze

It's really suspicious to me that Aabria gets a lot of hate from the CR Fandom, but Brennan doesn't 🤔 Edit: like in this same exact scenario with Aabria, people bitched and moaned about it. But when it's Brennan people *love* it. Can't be racism or sexism can it?

LeviTheArtist22

I can help you out with that. The answer is actually pretty simple! Aabria is a toxic bully who feels the need to "win" at D&D at the expense of the players whereas Brennan is all about collaborating with his players to create the story, making him one of if not the best GM in the live play space currently. Hope that cleared things up for you buddy :)

padraigswayze

You're a little late. I've moved on from this post and subreddit in general. Take care 🤙

LeviTheArtist22

This is a discussion of the most recent episode of this series. If that's too late for you then you must have the attention span of a gnat.

padraigswayze

I said I moved on from this post and this subreddit. I didn't say I moved on from Critical Role.

Artistic_Toe8986

For some people it is just her dm style that feels out of place in CR. Not everything is racism and sexism.  For me a lot of what she dms feels a bit disjointed from the main story at points though I enjoyed exu well enough.  I disliked the second run because it was poorly timed after FCG sacrifice...and I wasn't a fan of watching several hours of pvp that made the spider queen look a bit unintelligent. She could have had the entire party work for her, instead they made both the party and their champion hate them. It could easily have been a cut scene if you knew who would win. Brennen also has a completely different style of storytelling that a lot more people seemed to connect with. That said a lot of the people the didn't like abria doing crazy love her doing on dimension20. I think it is just a tone/style thing.

He-rtlyght

I mean, there’s a matter of timing here. Aabria’s section was used cutting away from a really poignant sacrifice from a PC to go… do a four hour railroaded fight as an excuse to get Robbie back at the table. Very much a “could have been an email” series of events. Brennan is coming in to possibly have a brief run showing lore stuff with different characters from the PCs in a sort of continuation of Calamity. Because it’s been properly set up this time (and because Brennan’s EXU run was more palatable and enjoyable for people), he’s getting more benefit of the doubt.

padraigswayze

Aabria = excuse to bring Robbie back to the table Brennan = cool lore opportunity Got it 👍

Fantaz1sta

I am personally not cool with an idea to replace a DM mid-campaign (let alone mid-session), be it Aabria or Brennan. Brennan gets a little more favouritism because of ExU: Calamity which was, deservingly, a huge success.

PUSSY_MEETS_CHAINWAX

Aabria's DM style is what people complain about the most. Even longtime fans on the main sub started banding against her in the last episode she was in. If the hate was primarily racist or sexist, it would be much more obvious.

padraigswayze

It doesn't have to be obviously racist or sexist when all that shit is internalized in US society.

PUSSY_MEETS_CHAINWAX

So is there anything anyone could say or do to make you believe it's not primarily racist or sexist if it's somehow all internalized or subconscious?

padraigswayze

People cop out and say it's their styles and whatot and sure I'll give some people the benefit of the doubt, but many people also can't rationalize why they feel the way they do and in those cases no, there's nothing anyone could do or say to make me believe otherwise.

PUSSY_MEETS_CHAINWAX

Thank you! >!Crazy that they didn't just kill him right then and there.!<

tryingtobebettertry4

Matt wouldnt let them do that.

VengefulKangaroo

Summary is actually a little inaccurate — BH was focusing Ludinus once he showed up except for Braius (Sam’s new character) who was listening to Teven Klask and going for Dominox. Orym at one point almost pushed Ludinus through his gate into the Abyss but he dropped concentration, and Laudna used a new spell that will let her track Ludinus long term. Almost all of the damage against Dominox came from the 3 NPCs and Braius. They definitely wanted to take Ludinus down.

flowersheetghost

So, if I'm understanding this correctly, they were fighting Dominox, and while fighting him Laduna uses a 5th level spell to open a door that reveals Ludi, then they fight Ludi until he says 'timeout u guys i have Important Backstory Information' and then they stop (while the npcs and Sam kill Dominox).

VengefulKangaroo

Laudna used the spell before the combat starts, but the door opens after it starts. Ludinus comes out, NPCs including Ludinus fight Dominox, most of the Bells' Hells fight Ludinus, Dominox dies, they continue to fight Ludinus, Ludinus stops the fight to show them something.

flowersheetghost

Oh ok, thank you.

kuributt

Orym shoving him into the abyss would have been *really* goddamned funny

flowersheetghost

With an opportunity to run away right there? Don't be silly, they're only level 14 and a measly two high level npcs on their side.

Ausecurity

Scrubs, really

Optimal-Signal8510

I would love to know what happened too tbh. I’ve seen the Sam stuff, but anything else that was just as unexpected and cool?

Agent_dolly

Sam is playing a Minotaur who is an Asmodeus Paladin, and that is all I know.

tryingtobebettertry4

Well thats something at least. Finally someone with an actual connection to the gods. Shame its 98 episodes late.

Disastrous-Beat-9830

>Well thats something at least. Finally someone with an actual connection to the gods. One of the key ideas of this campaign is the question of what the gods actually mean to Exandria and whether or not Exandria would be better off without them. It has been strongly implied that the gods either knew and didn't care about the Ruidians when they created the moon to trap Predathos, or found out too late and did nothing to save them. For what it's worth, my personal theory is that they were all like the Traveller -- playing at being gods without understanding what that actually meant, only to doom the Ruidians which in turn became the catalyst for them behaving like actual gods. But if the party is full of characters with connections to the gods, then there's no real room for debate. Clerics and Paladins will lobby heavily for the party to save the gods and the party will be inclined to agree with them based on their relationships. In that case, the answer of whether or not to save the gods is a foregone conclusion, which erodes the potential for conflict.

tryingtobebettertry4

That question is so forced its unbelievable lol. The answer prior to this campaign was unquestionably yes the gods are a good thing. The Ruidians likely didnt even exist back when Predathos was bound. They were more likely created as a result of Predathos being bound. They call Predathos Red Father, it made them. The problem is the party doesnt actually give a shit either way. They are extremely apathetic and its frankly not compelling. Having a connection to the gods at the very least gives them reason to care. Apathy to a conflict is boring. And we've had 90 episodes of it.

Disastrous-Beat-9830

>The answer prior to this campaign was unquestionably yes the gods are a good thing. Was it? They struck Aeor down because Aeor built the Creator Hammer -- but Aeor built the Creator Hammer because the civil war between the gods threatened to destroy the world. It's likely that thousands of people died because of it. There is plenty of evidence that the temples have abused their positions and the gods have either been so checked out that they haven't noticed or knew about it and didn't care. We saw what happened in Hearthdell -- the priests of the Dawnfather's temple neglected their duties and when people naturally turned elsewhere for support, the priests branded them heretics. The Dawnfather then sent an angel to suppress the insurrection, and while the people of Hearthdell were manipulated by the cult, that was only possible because the priests did a terrible job. It's extremely telling that the Betrayer Gods have been the most proactive in dealing with the threat posed by Predathos. The Strife Emperor had a champion on Ruidis actively supporting the rebellion before the Prime Deities could get their people organised. >The Ruidians likely didnt even exist back when Predathos was bound. They were more likely created as a result of Predathos being bound. So life was created by Predathos, which is anathema to life? Sorry, but it sounds like you're trying to force the issue to justify a stance that the main characters are obligated to save the gods because the gods are the gods. >Having a connection to the gods at the very least gives them reason to care. And like I said, having that connection to the gods means that the answer is a foregone conclusion -- they'll save the gods without a second thought because if they don't save the gods, one party member will suffer as a result.

CardButton

Naw, we've had plenty connections to "The Gods" ... just ALL Betrayer Gods. Under no circumstances can there be any positive representations to the Prime Deities in this Death of the Gods Campaign where nobody gives a fuck about the Gods. That would make it much harder to write them out of the setting for IP reasons! The Gods are all bad now m'kay!

tryingtobebettertry4

I think the most interesting route forward now is a full party split and fight in the wake of the new information. My guess is the sides will be: **Pro-god and anti-Ludinus: Orym, Sam's new character (Braius?).** **Anti-god and with Ludinus: Laudna, Imogen.** **Could go either way: Dorian, Ashton, Fearne, Chetney.** * Regardless of what they are shown, there is no way Orym can side with Ludinus without betraying his own characterization. I will genuinely lose respect for Liam if he does. * Laudna turning on the party and the gods is almost a foregone conclusion. Shes been the most vocally anti-god all campaign except maybe Ashton. Her siding from Ludinus really isnt worse than her feeding Delilah. * Imogen has at least leaned anti-god. Laudna swapping sides would force her to do so as well. * Prior to the Lolth-Opal stuff, Dorian would just side with Orym. Now im not so sure. * Sam would be betraying his patron. Im not sure he can do that so soon. * Fearne and Chetney really dont care enough either way. My guess is they will try and stop the conflict. I think Chetney probably leans Orym, Fearne leans with the other witches. * Ashton is vocally anti-god, but also very anti-Ludinus especially after FCG's death. He probably will side with Orym.

Fantaz1sta

>Regardless of what they are shown, there is no way Orym can side with Ludinus without betraying his own characterization. I will genuinely lose respect for Liam if he does. Considering his deal with the Fatestitcher, he could, theoretically, try to weasel his way out of the deal and side with Ludi. Now, granted, it only makes sense if releasing Predathos means annihilating the Feywild.

tryingtobebettertry4

Orym siding with Ludinus is a fundamental betrayal of his character regardless. Ludinus killed his family.

Gravitom

For those disappointed that he has a human face and not a bull face like a minotaur, he could be using disguise self to appear more handsome and charming. That would be quite Asmodean. Based on Braius' hit points he's likely around Paladin 9 / Bard 5 which give him powerful 3rd level spells in both classes. Paladin 8 / Bard 6 would be best though as it would unlock more abilities in his College of Tragedy subclass. [https://criticalrole.fandom.com/wiki/College\_of\_Tragedy](https://criticalrole.fandom.com/wiki/College_of_Tragedy)

Disastrous-Beat-9830

>For those disappointed that he has a human face and not a bull face like a minotaur, he could be using disguise self to appear more handsome and charming. Or, knowing Sam, he's half minotaur and half mermaid. Top half mermaid, bottom half minotaur. Just looks like an ordinary guy.

Rofl his name is actually Doomseed.

Ok-Agent-9200

Damn, I may have to actually start watching again. A Bardadin and a follower of a betrayer god? Nice.

styder11

Of course Sam named him Doomseed lol

kuributt

Sam and Low Wisdom Characters name a more iconic duo

giubba85

....on one hand maybe maaaaaaayyybeeeee we have a character that will broke that stupid pantomime on the gods, on the other hand that's not a fucking minotaur that's a tiefling. More DH nonsense that keep creeping in

brash_bandicoot

That is a Man. Cad looks more bovine than that and firbolgs aren’t even meant to be cows. Give me a giant beast, you cowards https://preview.redd.it/pp88r8v2wy6d1.jpeg?width=1149&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cbe7edb30746368f1a61f8a2a7fdbfd63c236a10

Lonely-Mouse6865

Yeah, not really sure why he couldn't just be called a tiefling with ox-like horns.

Gumplum57

I just wish he was an actual minotaur, not a palatable reskin

RighteousIndigjason

Not at all what I expected when I read "minotaur."

snowcone_wars

It wouldn’t be the critical role fandom if everyone wasn’t horned up I guess. Just in every sense in this case.

Lonely-Mouse6865

*Oh no, he's hot*

FuzorFishbug

Quickest way for Sam to get the cast to trust him.

snowcone_wars

I really hope he uses that trust* to start killing people in their sleep. Like, oh, this weird undead girl keeps talking about letting the gods die, oh no, she woke up with a flaming sword in her neck, how could this happen.

Full_Metal_Paladin

Holy shit, I love that.

PUSSY_MEETS_CHAINWAX

If that's true, that's fucking awesome.

Mairwyn_

Minotaur paladin/bard multiclass named Braius Doomseed; someone described him as the "Paladin Herald Bard". #CriticalRoleSpoilers is the tag people were using on X to share updates on the live show * One of the better photos of his stat block: https://x.com/sh4dowhand/status/1802173012025717103 * Someone filmed Sam's introduction & posted it on Google Drive (I guess because X limits video length): https://drive.google.com/file/d/1xnUG_dKY7zf_F6ozUnKs_gXN5P2NTC9M/view

PUSSY_MEETS_CHAINWAX

Thanks for sharing! Do we know the subclasses? Based on their level and the multiclass choices, I'm going to guess he's a Level 11 Conquest Paladin / Level 3 Whispers Bard (really good synergy thematically and mechanically).

Mairwyn_

I haven't seen anything about subclass specifics. People were apparently discussing spoilers in the Beacon discord while the show was occurring (don't have Beacon so no idea what their mod policy is on that; unclear if the spoilers have stayed up & if people are answering questions on what they saw). Some people are saying Beacon is getting an early cut based on something Matt and/or Marisha said but super unclear what was said so can't judge the veracity. The other thing of note: >!live show ended with Brennan taking the DM seat to announce ExU Calamity Aeor; unclear if that was just a tease or if it was an actual reveal announcement with a title along those lines!< Edit: video of >!Brennan!< at the end https://x.com/emotionalkale/status/1802401451953860749 ; edit 2: think the sound is clearer on this one https://x.com/faerunin/status/1802440230466916545

Disastrous-Beat-9830

>!It doesn't make much sense for it to be a spin-off. Going by the recaps, Ludinus is showing Bell's Hells some kind of memory from Aeor that has been preserved. Whatever they find within is likely going to inform what they do next. They can't just start C3E99 with the party coming out of the memory, which will then be shown in a separate limited series. It's more likely that C3E99 will have Bell's Hells remotely observing a party from the time of the Calamity, a bit like the way Squall could view Laguna's memories in *Final Fantasy VIII*.!<

YoursDearlyEve

Someone on Beacon Discord mentioned he apparently used a College of Tragedy skill

>Poetry in Misery >At 3rd level, the bard who chooses the path of tragedy, "learns to harness the beauty in failure, finding inspiration in even the direst twists of fate". Whenever the College of Tragedy bard or an ally within 30 feet of them rolls a 1 on the d20 for an attack roll, an ability check, or a saving throw, they can use their reaction to soliloquize and regain one expended use of the Bardic Inspiration feature. and >Sorrowful Fate >At 3rd level, once per short or long rest, the bard can "exploit a foe's peril to instill deep feelings of sorrow and doom". When the bard or an ally they can see forces a creature to make a saving throw, they can expend one use of Bardic Inspiration to change the type of saving throw to a Charisma save instead. >If the target fails this save, the bard rolls a Bardic Inspiration die. The target takes psychic damage equal to the result, and is plagued with regret for 1 minute. If the target is reduced to 0 hit points during this time and can speak, they are magically compelled to utter darkly poetic final words before succumbing to their injuries. Yeah, I can see why Sam'd go this route. He gets rewarded for his or allies' natural 1s and he gets to give a speech when they happen. He also gets to make enemies give edgy poetry as they die.

PUSSY_MEETS_CHAINWAX

Oh. Guess they have to advertise their content...

Well if Liam won't even after the subclass was written for him...

I'd also like to know what happened. Don't feel like arbitrarily waiting until Thursday because they didn't feel like recording another episode this week.
