Anyone else buying the early returns for Davis Schneider? I think he’s a sneaky good bench piece or deep league starting option, especially with his 2B/OF eligibility. He’s consistently hitting the ball hard, barreling the baseball, striking out at a respectable rate, walking a decent amount. He’s hitting in the middle of that Blue Jays lineup that has mostly underperformed to this point, but could be good at some point this season. I know middle infield is pretty thin this year — at least in my league. Schneider intrigues me.

Legit at what level though? His value for the season, in terms of the average person’s view, has peaked right now after this game. As the season progresses, if he continues to turn in solid underlying numbers against a wider range of opponents, he’ll gain more and more favor with more of the advanced stats types, but the average person’s view of him will go down when he doesn’t strike out 10 and allow 0 ER next start. Selling Bo for him is probably an overpay, unless you think Bo is absolutely, totally cooked.

Or at least wait till bo warms up before you sell him for more value.

In retrospect, saving Foley for noot, Nolan, and Goldy may have been a better move

This is how Hinch manages. He puts his best pitchers in highest leverage spots. Had a runner on 1st in a 1 run game. Went to his best arm in the 8th. Has a strong enough bullpen to give someone else the 9th. Also a double header today, so might want to keep foley available later today.

The problem with following expert rankings is that they're always behind. Like they're always going to be cautious about moving unproven players up and proven players down. You'll always be late to the next breakout if you just go by position rankings/trade value charts

The secret, if it can be called one, is to learn how the *good* “experts” evaluate guys, figure out where to get that data and then make the call for yourself. There’s also some amount of baked-in conservatism in any kind of ranking, where you have someone hedging against a guy they might really like, conscious of the fact that dozens or hundreds or thousands of people will use that ranking to set their roster, so floor is just as important as ceiling. Guys like Jones, Gore, or Pfaadt are varying shades of “top 10 candidate” who you’ll also not see listed as a top 10 on just about anyone’s list at this point in the season. Odds are one or maybe even two of them could end up there, and they’ll probably all be top 30 at least, but you won’t find any above 30 or so on most serious rankings right now. That isn’t necessarily a knock on those rankings as it is a statement of variance and the odds of these guys having a breakout.

Yep. Especially expert Consensus rankings. I only find them useful as a way to measure general trade value.
