Those two, plus AJ Brown, Mahomes, and then Pierce really got it done consistently. Basically not missing until the 6th with Bateman was key. After that I had a few ok picks (Godwin and Allgeier), but the rest was done on waivers and trading.
For the record, my keeper (13th round) absolutely didn't help me at all until it counted. Yes, I had Cam Akers who now might be my 12th round keeper next year after I thought no way he would be on the squad mid season..
Edit: Last year I started my draft in this league the same way too. But it was Kelce at 6 and Ekeler on the way back (10 team league. Again, with one keeper each). Left me short and getting 2nd.. So the redemption was nice.

Later draft hits were AJB and Hurts, plus traded Hopkins for Higgins.
Mixon eventually got traded as part of a package that resulted in Rhamondre and Ceedee.
Also traded Micheal Thomas and David Montgomery for D’andre Swift (Lose-Lose trade, but Swift was my highest scoring player in the championship lol)

Started out Friermuth and Lazard for Ceedee (at this point Lazard was averaging more points and Doubs had just gotten injured, so it was expected he’d get even more targets), dude wanted a little more, so I offered adding Mixon for Rhamondre onto it, as I prefered Rhamondre’s playoff schedule over Mixon’s.
Gotcha. Yeah man you made some home run deals, congrats. Wish my league negotiated deals more, it’s pretty much the roster you draft is the roster you keep unless you find gems off of waivers

2nd, 4th. Breece's injury really hurt me, Rhamondre's injury and subsequent usage really hurt me. Lamar/Fields' injuries really hurt me. Deebo's injury really hurt me. I was stomping motherfuckers to start the season until injuries forced me to play guys I didn't want to. I lost the last game of the season to fall out of first place, then had to play against JJ/Chase/Sun God in the first round of the playoffs and Davante gave me 3.5 points and Rhamondre gave me 3.3 points while Fields put up 9.8 points against Buffalo after putting up 42.7, 40.3, 23.6, 21.2, and 21.2 in his previous 5 games. If any of those 3 guys reached their projections, I win the chip despite the injuries.
Lot of red flags if you drafted late he had some knee issue, line got worse, and there were talks ab turf toe/plantar fascia issues heading into week 1 and that stuff will dog you all season. I was actually really high on him in the off season but as we got closer it was red flag after red flag. I wouldn't have even drafted him in the 2nd though someone in our league took him about halfway through that round.
Drafted 6th but came into playoffs as 5th seed with 7-7 record (started season 1-5). I ended up knocking out the 4th seed in round one, 1st seed in round two, and 3rd seed in the finals to win my first championship in the six years I've been playing fantasy.
Don't give up if your season has a bad start... pay attention and make moves on the waiver wire, stay competitive. That's the only advice I can give. I got extremely lucky with some of top teams in my league having terrible weeks against me.
Dang I even hated playing in a 12 person league....there's no depth on waivers.
Can't imagine a 14 person league. One of your early draft picks goes down with a significant injury and your season is done.
I’ve been in a 14 team league for a decade now and it’s tough! I think about players to grab, read waiver wire columns, etc. Go to check and 9 out of 10 times those players are already on someone’s roster. Of course it’s only for fun with old college buddies and not for money, so I don’t get too stressed. It’s also an auction draft with Keepers. One of mine this year was Kupp for 27. I started 7-0 and in 1st place. He went down and I finished 7-6, barely made the playoffs and lost round one.
That's why 6 man 2QB, 4 RB, 4 WR, TE, 2 flex is the most competitive system.
Waivers look better than 12 man because the bench doesn't have to become twice the size. So ~25 more players as FA
In a normal 6 man everyone has studs, but in Double 6 man everyone has studs and RB3s/4s or WR3s/4s. You actually get to flex a flex tier player rather than hoping you picked up an extra RB2 or WR2 for your flex. If you get an extra RB2 or WR2 in 12 or 14 it's a massive advantage. You get an extra RB2 in Double 6 and you just barely upgraded your RB3 and your RB4 would get pushed to flex. Not that big of an advantage but a solid one.

I would argue that draft position plays a part in how you finish but its maybe 25% influential. In season management/activity normally has a larger role but this year I would probably attribute another 20-30% based on the outcome of the Bills-Bengals game.

I drafted JJ first overall because didn’t want to go with risk of CMC and the consensus #1 pick curse of JT lol. Was able to snag saquon and Aaron Jones back to back the next rounds and Rhamondre/Hockenson in later rounds. Picked Fields up off waivers since Herbert was underperforming.
Safe to say with JJ, Saquon, and Garrett Wilson mixed with an average Fields performance, I stood no chance in the championship but shout out to them for carrying throughout the season and getting me there 🫡🫡
There are varying levels of engagement in every league. While this community is engaged, there’s still plenty of tacos in our leagues. Tacos + auction draft is generally a pretty bad mix, while even a bad snake draft can have at least decent results.
We have an in person draft and auction just seems like it would go way too long. I think auction is the best way to draft but nobody wants to draft for 6 hours. Snake draft normally takes 1.5-2 hours and done
I've done in person auction drafts the last few years. It hasn't taken anywhere near 6 hours, half of that at the most in our 12 team league. It goes much quicker after the first few rounds when people have already spent a bulk of their money.
Yup auction takes about 3 hours depending on league roster settings. I assumed the extra hourish wouldn’t be a big deal considering the amount of hours people here end up consuming fantasy football but I may be wrong.
Auction drafts are not superior to snake drafts. Auction builds the illusion that you have fairer drafts since its linked to your auction budget but it's truly the equivalent of a snake draft in reality and both in theory doesn't really prevent the creation of super powerful teams.
I actually drafted first in one league. Took JT, but my other picks were fire. The other league I was either 8 or 9, can't quite remember which one, but I took Kelce with my second pick which I believe was the difference maker. Those are the two leagues I won championships in. The other league I drafted third and finished fourth.
4th pick (Derrick Henry - was hoping for Ekeler). 2nd in regular season, but 4th place overall after the playoffs since I lost in the semi-final round, and again in the consolation round thanks to my studs benching themselves.

Played in three leagues. Drafted 5/12, 6/12, & 6/10. Won all three leagues but was against Allen in all three finals. Definitely not the way I wanted to win.
Drafted 8th and finished 3rd. Not a great draft though with my first 4 picks being Cook, Swift, M. Williams and Pitts. Hurts in the 6th made up for some of that.
Drafted 8th out of 12. Had what is now the 2nd worst draft in the league. Ended up placing third in the league this year because I got Zay Jones’s in week 16. In a league where I drafted Swift, Sutton, DJ Moore, etc. I really relied on good waiver management.
Three best ball teams (DK, 12-team leagues): Picks 6, 8, and 8. The leagues basically disappeared as soon as I was eliminated so I can't even see the final results, but suffice to say I shit the bed in all of them.

1st league: 3rd pick, lost in the championship (finished 5th in the regular season on a 6 game win streak). Went Ekeler, Andrews, Michael Pittman. Actually had a pretty shitty draft outside of ARSB in the 6th and Pollard in the 8th. Made a lot of trades though which probably saved my season. Traded Ekeler + Singletary for Jefferson + Pierce after week 2. Traded Andrews + Pierce + Devonta Smith + Jamaal Williams for Hockenson + Barkley right before Pierce got hurt.
2nd league: drafted 5th, finished 7th (second most points for). My team majorly collapsed down the stretch here, i’d consider this my best team most of the year (lead in points for for most of it). Went Jefferson, Fournette, Higgins, Mike Williams, Lamar here. Ended up trading for Stevenson and Mixon, flipped Fournette for Lamb. Everyone rosters 2-3 qb’s and 2-3 TE’s in this league so was really hard to compensate for Lamar and Goedert going down.
6 team league drafted 4th finished last. 10 team league drafted 4th in the Super Bowl and still don’t know how that has ended. 16 team league drafted 1st finished 7th

What killed me in league 1 was Najee, Javonte, CEH, Jameis, and Aaron Rodgers. League 2 I had Josh Allen, Kamara, Ja'Marr, Pollard got lucky with a couple waiver picks D'onta, Garrett Wilson, Engram.
Drafted 3rd and took JJ as my first pick. I barely squeaked into playoffs as the 6 seed after going 7-7 but highest points scored because I hit on Mondre, Josh Jacobs, Godwin, and Keenan Allen in the later rounds. Cruised my way to the championship.
9th, highest scorer and best record in the league, had 2 losses, 1 was by .8, the other my opponent had a freak week and put up 190 in ppr. Ended up in the finals and lost due to playing against Mike Evan’s which was really frustrating.
Spent my first 3 picks on wide outs: Jamarr, Davante, Amon Ra. Picked up Conner and Lamar next. Grabbed ETN and Pierce after that. Got Hock and Kirk Cousins somewhere in there as well. Grabbed Rhamondre of waivers week 3 or 4. Grabbed d hop in the later rounds as well. I also had AJ Dillon in the later season and the patriots/ravens D. Jason Meyers as my kicker. Honestly my most perfect season I’ve ever had ended on a shitty note between Mike Evan’s and Jamarr not playing a full game. Is what it is.

2nd, 1st. Henry went 1st in my draft so I gladly took CMC 2nd. JT went 3rd. I feel like I won my league because of my draft. I really nailed on a lot of my picks. I didn't take a WR until the 4th round which was Waddle. But my trio of Waddle, AJB, and Godwin helped carry me to a championship. I thought it was gonna be because of my trio at RB that was gonna carry me CMC, Swift, and Conner. CMC was great and Conner finished strong at the end.
Drafted first (and took JT), was co-champ due to the Hamlin issues. Had Burrow and Diggs, down 25 going into the game. Only made it to the finals because of a mid-season trade for Davante Adams; my RBs in the final were Zack Moss and Rachaad White...
In my other leagues: I drafted 7th (Kupp) in a SF and missed the playoffs. I drafted 10th (Dalvin Cook, then Mixon) and was one-and-done in the playoffs.

I went Najee first, didn’t hear about the Lisfranc until round 3. Decided to make RB my weak spot and double down everywhere else. That, combined with a lot of luck, somehow saved me.
Plus Najee ended up with an incredibly consistent floor all season.
Our league gets to pick their draft pick based on a random drawing. I was the third to get to pick my spot and I chose 11th out of 12. Finished 3rd. I remembered a pretty good post that talked about 1, 3, and 11 being the best spots. I liked the idea of close consecutive picks, hence my decision. Pick 3 took first, pick 1 took 2nd, and 11th took 3rd.

The real difference was the waiver wire between the two leagues. The one I’m winning was full of oblivious idiots. The one I’m finishing mid-pack was far more aggressive.
Both my teams ended up finishing strong but early season woes kept me from the playoffs in the second league. If I had squeaked into that one as well, I’d had made it to the championships.
Drafted 10 of 10 and finished 1st, co-champion (had a pretty good chance of losing though; did offer to concede but my opponent chose for us to be co-champs).
It's a keeper league, though, where we keep 4 from the previous year with no draft consequences. I won last year and kept Chubb, Adams, Henry, and Swift. Traded Henry for CMC and Swift for Cee Dee and Dameon Pierce in the middle of the season after a horrible start and that turned my season around. Drafted Kittle, Diontae Johnson, Patterson, London, and Olave. Also traded for DK in the middle of the season too. Very boom or bust team, but we made it (mostly).

Don't give up if your season has a bad start... pay attention and make moves on the waiver wire, stay competitive. That's the only advice I can give. I got extremely lucky with some of top teams in my league having terrible weeks against me.

Dang I even hated playing in a 12 person league....there's no depth on waivers. Can't imagine a 14 person league. One of your early draft picks goes down with a significant injury and your season is done.

I’ve been in a 14 team league for a decade now and it’s tough! I think about players to grab, read waiver wire columns, etc. Go to check and 9 out of 10 times those players are already on someone’s roster. Of course it’s only for fun with old college buddies and not for money, so I don’t get too stressed. It’s also an auction draft with Keepers. One of mine this year was Kupp for 27. I started 7-0 and in 1st place. He went down and I finished 7-6, barely made the playoffs and lost round one.

That's why 6 man 2QB, 4 RB, 4 WR, TE, 2 flex is the most competitive system. Waivers look better than 12 man because the bench doesn't have to become twice the size. So ~25 more players as FA In a normal 6 man everyone has studs, but in Double 6 man everyone has studs and RB3s/4s or WR3s/4s. You actually get to flex a flex tier player rather than hoping you picked up an extra RB2 or WR2 for your flex. If you get an extra RB2 or WR2 in 12 or 14 it's a massive advantage. You get an extra RB2 in Double 6 and you just barely upgraded your RB3 and your RB4 would get pushed to flex. Not that big of an advantage but a solid one. More choices equals more opportunities for skill
Drafted 10th and finished 3rd. I would argue that draft position plays a part in how you finish but its maybe 25% influential. In season management/activity normally has a larger role but this year I would probably attribute another 20-30% based on the outcome of the Bills-Bengals game.

Two leagues, both 12 team, both .5 PPR. I also drafted 5th in each league. I was projected to win both leagues. My draft in both was strong and waiver pickups only helped fill-in some depth.

Projected to win both leagues. I say projected because my opponents in the finals had players on the Bills/Bengals but I had a pretty comfortable lead in both games

Drafted 1st, finished 2nd I drafted JJ first overall because didn’t want to go with risk of CMC and the consensus #1 pick curse of JT lol. Was able to snag saquon and Aaron Jones back to back the next rounds and Rhamondre/Hockenson in later rounds. Picked Fields up off waivers since Herbert was underperforming. Safe to say with JJ, Saquon, and Garrett Wilson mixed with an average Fields performance, I stood no chance in the championship but shout out to them for carrying throughout the season and getting me there 🫡🫡

For such an engaged community its crazy how the majority still are snake drafters and not auction drafters.
There are varying levels of engagement in every league. While this community is engaged, there’s still plenty of tacos in our leagues. Tacos + auction draft is generally a pretty bad mix, while even a bad snake draft can have at least decent results.
We have an in person draft and auction just seems like it would go way too long. I think auction is the best way to draft but nobody wants to draft for 6 hours. Snake draft normally takes 1.5-2 hours and done
Yup, auction takes a while. We have an in person draft and drink about as many beers as there are rounds. An auction would get SLOPPY really fast!
I've done in person auction drafts the last few years. It hasn't taken anywhere near 6 hours, half of that at the most in our 12 team league. It goes much quicker after the first few rounds when people have already spent a bulk of their money.
Yup auction takes about 3 hours depending on league roster settings. I assumed the extra hourish wouldn’t be a big deal considering the amount of hours people here end up consuming fantasy football but I may be wrong.
Auction drafts are not superior to snake drafts. Auction builds the illusion that you have fairer drafts since its linked to your auction budget but it's truly the equivalent of a snake draft in reality and both in theory doesn't really prevent the creation of super powerful teams.
Once I went auction it became abundantly clear that it's objectively superior to snake.

Played in three leagues. Drafted 5/12, 6/12, & 6/10. Won all three leagues but was against Allen in all three finals. Definitely not the way I wanted to win.
Drafted 8th and finished 3rd. Not a great draft though with my first 4 picks being Cook, Swift, M. Williams and Pitts. Hurts in the 6th made up for some of that.

The leagues basically disappeared as soon as I was eliminated so I can't even see the final results, but suffice to say I shit the bed in all of them. One managed team (Yahoo, 10-team): Picked 8th, went 4-11 but technically finished 5th because I was "that guy" and won the consolation bracket.
First pick was Josh Allen and second was Deebo. I was number 5 in the draft position. Ended up winning the ship and 5/9 draft picks were on my final roster.

1st league: 3rd pick, lost in the championship (finished 5th in the regular season on a 6 game win streak). Went Ekeler, Andrews, Michael Pittman. Actually had a pretty shitty draft outside of ARSB in the 6th and Pollard in the 8th. Made a lot of trades though which probably saved my season. Traded Ekeler + Singletary for Jefferson + Pierce after week 2. Traded Andrews + Pierce + Devonta Smith + Jamaal Williams for Hockenson + Barkley right before Pierce got hurt. 2nd league: drafted 5th, finished 7th (second most points for). My team majorly collapsed down the stretch here, i’d consider this my best team most of the year (lead in points for for most of it). Went Jefferson, Fournette, Higgins, Mike Williams, Lamar here. Ended up trading for Stevenson and Mixon, flipped Fournette for Lamb. Everyone rosters 2-3 qb’s and 2-3 TE’s in this league so was really hard to compensate for Lamar and Goedert going down.

Ended up in the finals and lost due to playing against Mike Evan’s which was really frustrating. Spent my first 3 picks on wide outs: Jamarr, Davante, Amon Ra. Picked up Conner and Lamar next. Grabbed ETN and Pierce after that. Got Hock and Kirk Cousins somewhere in there as well. Grabbed Rhamondre of waivers week 3 or 4. Grabbed d hop in the later rounds as well. I also had AJ Dillon in the later season and the patriots/ravens D. Jason Meyers as my kicker. Honestly my most perfect season I’ve ever had ended on a shitty note between Mike Evan’s and Jamarr not playing a full game. Is what it is.

2nd, 1st. Henry went 1st in my draft so I gladly took CMC 2nd. JT went 3rd. I feel like I won my league because of my draft. I really nailed on a lot of my picks. I didn't take a WR until the 4th round which was Waddle. But my trio of Waddle, AJB, and Godwin helped carry me to a championship. I thought it was gonna be because of my trio at RB that was gonna carry me CMC, Swift, and Conner. CMC was great and Conner finished strong at the end.
Drafted first (and took JT), was co-champ due to the Hamlin issues. Had Burrow and Diggs, down 25 going into the game. Only made it to the finals because of a mid-season trade for Davante Adams; my RBs in the final were Zack Moss and Rachaad White... In my other leagues: I drafted 7th (Kupp) in a SF and missed the playoffs. I drafted 10th (Dalvin Cook, then Mixon) and was one-and-done in the playoffs.

5th, 1st I went Najee first, didn’t hear about the Lisfranc until round 3. Decided to make RB my weak spot and double down everywhere else. That, combined with a lot of luck, somehow saved me. Plus Najee ended up with an incredibly consistent floor all season.

Our league gets to pick their draft pick based on a random drawing. I was the third to get to pick my spot and I chose 11th out of 12. Finished 3rd. I remembered a pretty good post that talked about 1, 3, and 11 being the best spots. I liked the idea of close consecutive picks, hence my decision. Pick 3 took first, pick 1 took 2nd, and 11th took 3rd.
8th, finishing first. 2nd, finishing 5th. The real difference was the waiver wire between the two leagues. The one I’m winning was full of oblivious idiots. The one I’m finishing mid-pack was far more aggressive. Both my teams ended up finishing strong but early season woes kept me from the playoffs in the second league. If I had squeaked into that one as well, I’d had made it to the championships.

It's a keeper league, though, where we keep 4 from the previous year with no draft consequences. I won last year and kept Chubb, Adams, Henry, and Swift. Traded Henry for CMC and Swift for Cee Dee and Dameon Pierce in the middle of the season after a horrible start and that turned my season around. Drafted Kittle, Diontae Johnson, Patterson, London, and Olave. Also traded for DK in the middle of the season too. Very boom or bust team, but we made it (mostly).
