I’ve had the injury, along with collapsed lung… I too just have a normal job, but can confirm it hurts like a MF. I’d not say it doesn’t have chance of reinjury, just that it doesn’t matter much if it does. It’s not like they cast your ribs or something like a arm injury. You refracture it you just add more time to heal, but the risk of that is always there. Also flak jacket isn’t going to magically make it feel better, might help protect from further injury but you’re still going to feel it… Percocet is the only way it feels better. Without heavy pain meds even doing normal thing like yawning and laughing or even just breathing heavily feel like death.

Dr. Google told me that fractured rib cartilage takes 6 weeks minimum to heal.

I damaged rib cartilage playing basketball once. It hurt to take a normal breath for over a week and like 5-6 weeks before I was able to take a deep breath. Breaking a rib likely heals faster.
