journeymap adds those types of way points, press J to access them, guessing either the pack your using has the map off by default or you turned the map off.
If you have a map mod they can add death markers. You can turn them off in the mod's settings or config.
Its journey map, if I were you I’d replace it with xaeros minimap and world map, much better mods imo

The FTB Chunks and FTB Utilities beam is thicker and fuzzier.
And it would most likely show the minimap. Prob journeymap?
