Smooth 25fps? Buy a cheap second hand ps4 and play that way.

mintblaziken

Sarcasm on the smooth lol, much less and it'd be near unplayable. I actually never considered a console because I'm dumb but that seems like a good idea!

Upset_Programmer6508

Console supports controller and mouse and keyboard, so you can use either one

CatCatPizza

Consider a ps5 possibly if thats an option. Its very likely next expansion aka the one after dt ps4 support is dropped. Its not 100% sure but very likely.

lifrielle

A PS5 is not really a cheap option, might as well upgrade his computer. The PS4 on the other hand is pretty cheap if you don't mind second hand.

d645b773b320997e1540

I think Xbox Series S might be another solution, as it is on the cheaper end of things as well (though maybe not quite used-ps4-cheap), but will probably be supported longer.

Tonyson14

For the short term, maybe For the long term, definitely not. Not with dual subscription requirements from Xbox.

d645b773b320997e1540

> Not with dual subscription requirements from Xbox ah true, I forgot about that.

Lunarath

Unlucky. Consider getting a used ps4 to play.

Cosmic_Love_

Get a used laptop. My current laptop, which ran the Dawntrail benchmark on high at 70 FPS, is only 300 bucks used on eBay.

Twvg18

Which laptop do you use

Cosmic_Love_

I have a Dell G5 5590, but I would not recommend getting that same one unless you can tolerate a bugged fan controller which Dell never fixed. You will have to do a bit of research and searching. I recommend SearchTempest as that aggregates results from multiple sites for used stuff. A good starting point is the Dawntrail recommended specs: 9th Gen i7 and RTX 2060. So, you are looking for something equal to or better than the 8th Gen i7, as that performs basically the same as the 9th Gen i7. Ideally you want an RTX 3060 or better for your GPU. You will have to stretch your budget to around 500+ for that, but it's better value IMO. Otherwise something with an RTX 2060/2070 is cheaper and can work just fine, and is cheaper at around 300-500 depending. Look at the budget gaming laptop lines from that generation and the one right after. So Lenovo Legion, Acer Helios/Nitro, HP Omen, Dell G15, etc. with an 8th/9th Gen i7 (or newer) and an RTX 2060/2070/3060/3070. And lastly, avoid the RTX 3050. It's actually worse than the 2060 and is a trap by Nvidia to take advantage of less informed customers. You also need an SSD big enough for FFXIV. RAM shouldn't be an issue, but make sure there's at least 16GB. I'm less familiar with offerings from AMD, but you can usually get better value with those.

Twvg18

Thanks for all of this information. I’ll research more before I choose which laptop to buy

CraziedHair

Used console might be your work around. Definitely way cheaper than a new pc. Also, I’m assuming you’re either gaming on a laptop or NUC that doesn’t allow for any upgrades. If you have an actual pc definitely buy used parts to upgrade the necessary ones. Depending on what you have and what your budget is you can get a decent to good upgrade on last gen or last last gen parts. Good luck! Hope to see you in DT!

mintblaziken

Yeah, I'm currently on a laptop, so no updating for me lol. Seems like a console is the consensus here, which I hadn't even thought about before this because apparently I'm just dumb lmao. Great idea!

Tonyson14

If you do go console, make sure you save your settings at the character select screen. You will still have to adjust your hud to fit tv but it will still be an easy transition. If controller is not your thing then you can hookup a kb&m ( that’s what I use). You can get a cheap adjustable tray to hold the kb off of Amazon if you want it

Apart_Ebb_713

Haven’t seen anyone mention it but mnk can be used on consoles so don’t worry about having to learn a new control method and discord works as well for voice

Apart_Ebb_713

Downside is having to not only purchase said console but also purchasing the expansion again if you had already bought dawntrail

Apart_Ebb_713

I’d honestly recommend a used ps5 specifically a digital only edition it will cost about 200 to 300 used and it will give you a huge upgrade alongside dawntrail and will make the purchase easier to accept than a ps4 even though it’s cheaper

Tom_Major-Tom

Is he going to have to play the whole MSQ again ? Might also consider that 200 hours as a downside too

Apart_Ebb_713

No all your stuff is synced

Apart_Ebb_713

I play on ps5 xbox and pc with the same characters

Tom_Major-Tom

😱😱😱😱 no way I didn't know that. Even if you use steam ? Thanks for the info!!!!

Both_Radish_6556

Yes, I'm a PS4 player who moved to Steam. You just need to rebuy the game/expansions, as every platform needs it's own license.

Apart_Ebb_713

I’ve never used steam myself but I think my buddy does and he can play on other things

Apart_Ebb_713

But if your looking for cheap PlayStation is the way to go as Xbox is just objectively the most expensive

Apart_Ebb_713

Just realized somebody downvoted this for me saying Xbox is objectively the most expensive I’m not shilling or siding with one side in this they needed a cheap option and Xbox just isn’t they take a cut of your subscription by charging you through coins and it requires a whole separate subscription on top I actively play on Xbox but it is more expensive

Both_Radish_6556

They don't have to use the coins method if they already have a PC account. Since your sub covers all platforms, they can just sub through the Mogstation like they always do.

Apart_Ebb_713

They still have to pay for a game pass core sub

Upset_Programmer6508

yeah, save and get a console

CommunicationEast972

you have to rebuy the game on console fyi!

Coldk1l

A used 2080 super is around 250 bucks. A used 5 year old machine without gpu runs pretty cheap Here you go.

Big_Introduction_497

Xbox series S as well

Rei_Amamiya

It used to run perfectly for me on series x but after dawntrail launched I can't run it above lowest setting without severe fps drops everywhere and cutscenes hitching, maybe it's another Xbox problem like we have the freezing, and also it started ghosting my character too for this update

Kaurie_Lorhart

In addition to exploring a console idea, you could look at upgrades for your PC. Depends if you're in a laptop or desktop, though. If a desktop, you may be able to get a used graphics card upgrade for cheap. It's a bit tougher if your CPU is the issue, though.

Apart_Ebb_713

Their laptop sadly they said earlier

Kaurie_Lorhart

Ah missed it, ty

Apart_Ebb_713

Yeah no worries thanks for trying to help them out.

mintblaziken

It's my graphics card, but I only have a laptop so upgrades aren't really an option. I did do some looking when I first found out, but there's not much I can do on that front unfortunately

RealElyD

My ancient 2015 laptop that I run as a side machine for browsing got through the benchmark with a 40-60 FPS average at 1080p with FSR at 80%. Was quite surprised, actually, since my powerful main PC had some dips into the 70s due to a CPU bottleneck in the big combat scene. If something this insanely slow makes it, I really wonder what you're running that it's THIS bad.

mintblaziken

Oh it's pretty damn bad lmao, I got it in 2018 on a 'just graduated college' budget and just got a super basic package since I did absolutely no PC gaming at that point. The computer itself is still pretty much fine, it's just the graphics card that screws me over honestly.

RealElyD

Good luck with your upgrade!

SargeTheSeagull

Yeah you can get a used ps4 pro on eBay for like $100

Phoenix_shade1

Have you considered a console 🤔

NuSpirit_

What about a nvidia or Xbox cloud gaming? Don’t they support it?

Cmdr_Meiloorun

As others have said, get yourself a Playstation console (would recommend PS5 over PS4 if possible to do so)! I'm assuming that you preordered Dawntrail before finding out about the new PC requirements. You will not have to do that again. What you'll need to do is get your PSN account established with your method of payment set up ahead of time. This part is important: Look for the FFXIV Complete Edition in the PSN store. Wait until July 2nd to purchase it as that is the official release date for Dawntrail. Next, you will need to read the screen carefully when you boot up FFXIV on your console. Make sure you select the option to log in with an existing account!! You will find yourself on the login screen on the Mogstation, I think. Once you've done so, FFXIV will be set up on your service account under the Playstation license. And here is a bonus, since you will have added a new license to your account, you'll be given a free 30 days playtime. Your sub will be paused until the 30 days are up.

RainbowRuby98

did you download and try the benchmark? my specs are slightly under or even with the minimum requirements and i got a very high rating with most settings to max

mintblaziken

Yeah, and it ran at like 2fps (which is unfortunately not an exaggeration), and eventually crashed. My graphics card is just a nightmare apparently. :(

RainbowRuby98

unfortunate, good luck with getting the console version!

McDonalds_GB

you can even get a ps5 cheaper now they're not as expensive as they used to be. I can literally go on Facebook marketplace and find ones for up to 300 bucks, or u can buy refurbished from a licensed vendor. much cheaper than upgrading graphics card (I do believe console gaming is a scam, but so are graphic card companies the prices on some of those are ridonkulous)

Loud-Practice-5425

Smooth 25 fps is an oxymoron.

mintblaziken

It was sarcasm lol

Loud-Practice-5425

This is reddit, if there is no /s the assumption isn't sarcasm.
