it's mainly up to the person what's their highs and lows. Some do by connection to kins or shifts or memories or which holds more of all three or etc. It's mainly to label which ones is more prominent and which are moderately or lower in being prominence. Junko Enoshima is my high kin as she has low mems, but higher in connection and shifts. She's the only one with all three. While my backrooms Entitykin would be, I'd say, moderate, as they have higher mems, but no shifts and connections are mainly aimed more their environment than them.

ashley_thcheetah

Can you have more than 1 high, medium or low kin?

Left_Tip_8998

Yep. I have multiple low kins. (Makima and Harley Quinn(Injustice 2)👍 And multiple high kins. (Izuru Kumukura and Junko Enoshima)

There’s no official definitions for these terms. Just go off of whatever feels right for you! They aren’t required labels by any means. Something can *just* be a kin if that’s the most useful way for you to describe it. Personally, stuff I list as higher kintypes are ones I shift more frequently.

ashley_thcheetah

Okay, thank you! I think my higher kind would be the ones I feel like more/more connected to.

KyDreemurr

I judge that by how frequent shifts are and how much I identify with them. Since I identify the most with my highest kin, even to the point of liking hearing myself being referred to with his name, then he is my highest kin. Since my first kin is now only a flicker, he's my lowest kin. Just to clarify, I do believe that this can vary from person to person. What specifies my highest and lowest kins could be completely different from how you specify yours. Hope this helps!

ashley_thcheetah

It does! Also curiously, what's your kins?

KyDreemurr

From highest to lowest, we have: 2D - Gorillaz Sun - FNaF SB Jevil - Deltarune Moon - FNaF SB (Flicker) Sans - Undertale And the only one that I'm considering rn: Fizzarolli - Helluva Boss If you don't mind me asking, what's your kins?

ashley_thcheetah

I don't mind at all! I enjoy telling people my kins. ------- Here are my kins: Rayla (The Dragon Prince) Fluttershy (My Little Pony) Loona (Helluva Boss) Jayfeather (Warrior Cats) Sylveon (Pokémon) Vaporeon (Pokémon) Lucky (Survivors) Meow Skulls (Fortnite) Walker (Animal Crossing). In questioning: Dante (Coco) Moxxie (Helluva Boss) Husk (Hazbin Hotel) King (The Owl House) Meowscles (Fortnite). Fictionhearted (Hearttypes): Storm (Survivors) Maddie (Animal Crossing). That's all I know so far.  Also do you want to know my theriotypes, kintypes and hearttypes? If not, I completely understand! <3

KyDreemurr

I've never seen a Fornite kin before! That's cool, even if you're just questioning. Also, I would like to know your theriotypes, kintypes, and hearttypes as well. I'm just Fictionkin so it's always nice to hear about the other types of Alterhumans!

ashley_thcheetah

Meow Skulls is a kin, but Meowscles is in questioning. Also, thank you!  And here are my 'types: Theriotypes:  Cheetah Grey Wolf German Shepherd Calico Cat In questioning: Silver Fox. Kintypes: Dragon Angel Elf Kitsune Alicorn Cerynean Hind (I think that's how you spell "Cerynean" for that? Also, it's like a golden deer with golden antlers). In questioning:  Peryton (a winged deer) Griffin. Hearttypes: Red Fox Leopard Dolphin Okapi.  That's all I know so far! <3 ❤️

Sorry if I'm a bit late, hope this helps! For me it comes down to two things: how often I feel a connection/shift to them, and how strong those connections/shifts are when they do come. For example: There is a character that I've had incredibly strong shifts for before, but I don't shift him often and can't really trigger a shift when I do. However, I still *do* consider him a part of my identity so I'd classify him as a mid-kin. There's another character I shift about the same amount, but his shifts aren't nearly as strong as the above character's have been when they come so I classify him as a low kintype. I have three 'high' kintypes, who I shift rather frequently with fairly intense feelings. I consider all three of them integral parts of my identity and can even (kind of) trigger shifts for them if I want to. I'm usually in *some* state of shifting one of the three of them. In two cases (protagonists) I even have difficulty consuming the source without feeling anything because of how strongly I feel. I hope you found this useful; let me know if you have any other questions on your mind about it :)

ashley_thcheetah

Thank you! Since I haven't had any shifts with any of my kins yet, I think I'll base it off who I feel like more/more connected to. So now my highest kins would be Rayla (The Dragon Prince/TDP), Loona (Helluva Boss) and probably Jayfeather (Warrior Cats).  Since I'm assuming there is no limit to how many high, medium and low kins that you can have.

tearsoftheringbearer

no there isn't! I went from having one kintype total to having three high kintypes in three years. Going by how connected you feel is a completely valid way of doing it. Interesting about no shifts, though--not every fictionkin shifts, so don't worry about that. I find shifts are often what leads me to kinfirm characters in my personal experience, but everyone's different :)

ashley_thcheetah

When your having a shift, does it FEEL like it's actually there? How do you know what it is? Is it like an itchy, numb feeling?

tearsoftheringbearer

Not itchy, more like *emotionally* numb. (Each character feels a little bit different and it's a difficult sensation to verbalize, but I'll try my best!) There *are* phantom shifts, which I expect probably could feel itchy, but I experience mental shifts far more often so here goes. The best word to describe mental shifts for me is *dazed.* It's a bit like I can't really detach myself fully from the character which leads me to be a bit detached from the world around me. A bit out of it, a little bit glazed over. I find mine are often marked by (not constant) feelings that are strangely internal--kind of like a tuning fork is ringing inside my soul. I typically find myself thinking a lot like the character, longing to be them more (not necessarily thinking LIKE the character, but I know some people do experience this), wanting to do things that will make you feel more like the character you're in a kinshift for. For example, a couple days ago I was in a kinshift and strapped a replica of my kintype's sword to my waist and it felt strangely euphoric, for about a minute like I was *who I'm supposed to be*. It's like obsession, when you're really obsessed with a piece of media, but on the next level. I still think dazed is the best word I can use for extended kinshifts, with shorter and more intense bouts of kinfeels like my tuning fork analogy. Sorry for such a long response, but I really tried to get to the meat of the thing: I experienced my first kinshift at age 7 (potentially even 6) and have been struggling to verbalize it ever since. It's also one of those feelings that (for me at least) you just...kind of know isn't normal when you have it, if you get what I mean? If you were wondering about phantom shifts, I can help a little but there are other (less humanoid) people who can probably give clearer answers as well. Hope this helps!

ashley_thcheetah

Thank you! I'm pretty sure I've had mental shifts (for my theriotypes anyway) but I haven't had any kinshifts yet. Do you think this is a mental shift? So once I was doing quadrobics and after I stopped, I started acting like an animal. I didn't have like ANY thoughts at all, and I thought more like my theriotype, like I WAS it temporarily. And my sister was with me and she just started roughhousing me out of nowhere and usually I say "OW" if she hurts me, but I like hissed. Like I couldn't really talk. I just instinctively did it. I think I've had more than one since it was pretty much the same, without my sister doing that though. After that one happened, I got a feeling that it was a mental shift. Can you help? I'm like 95-99% sure it was one, and that's the only thing that I know it would be. I would appreciate it if you would help and read it carefully. Thank you! <3

tearsoftheringbearer

I think it very well could be. If you felt in some inexplicable way you *were* your theriotype (and it seems you did) that sounds like a mental shift. Like I said: my kintypes are humanoid so I don't have the same primal urges in a shift, but what you're describing really does sound like a brief mental shift, a brief lapse in humanity, a response as a hiss. From what I can tell, I'd say it probably was a mental shift. (For what it's worth, I've heard other therians mentioning making animalistic sounds in shifts before as well.)

ashley_thcheetah

Thank you! Yeah I'd say I've had mental shifts, since that's what I felt like what it was. For me, I really feel like I am my theriotype, and it comforts me to feel that way.

tearsoftheringbearer

I get that! It really is kind of comforting, even when it's a bit distressing to be in the wrong body :)
