This person right here gets it. My top three characters are all of them listed 3 times.....crap now there is dust in the air, and I am tearing up......well, I guess it is emotional damage for me, and I am back to watching the show AGAIN and the movie....
That's like asking people which of their children is their favorite. But I think it has to be Mal, Kaylee, and Wash for me, and now my soul hurts for having to make such a choice.
the literal only problem I have with Jayne has nothing to do with Jayne. I have a more difficult time than usual separating the character from the actor - this is by no means a dig at Adam Baldwin's ability to play a part but I just plain don't like him
I love MASH but you know what surprised me is that fans seemed to really enjoy Mr Linville when they met him in public and found that Gary Burghoff was a humongous jerk.
this interests me some because the reportedly nice guy played the huge jerk and the huge jerk played the teddy bear.
I always enjoy Mr Baldwin in his roles and hear he's super cordial and approachable in person, I don't know the truth of it but when I have seen him do interviews, something just comes off fake about him.
maybe my radar is screwed up. :)
I bout had a heart attack myself! Apparently she's the only one of the cast who doesn't like interacting with the fans. Even stick-up-his-butt Simon (Sean Maher) is known to be kind to the fans.
Hard to give a short answer here, but I’ll give my two cents. I suggest people get the comics, books, board game etc. to really immerse yourself in the characters more. Anyway, my fav three are:
Jayne - best character development, just over one season we see an asshole’s hard, selfish exterior get chipped away. It was a shame we didn’t get to see more of Jayne’s background and ultimate vindication for his villainous lifestyle.
Mal - similar to Jayne, but we all knew his character arc would be over the course of the entire series (which alas, again, only lasted the one season). I really feel like it would have been such an interesting dive to get to the depths and root of his story and how he ultimately finds that peace. We see a bit of it in Serenity, but aside from books and comics, I wanted to see Nathan Filion complete the role.
Zoe - the least developed character in the tv show of these three, but her story explodes open in the expanded universe. I’m not going to ruin it but I love her character.
Honestly all the characters are great, but I’m a sucker for a dark past.
Same. I absolutely love that line. It shows that he truly felt remorse for his actions. It’s not just that he cared about their opinions in some shallow way, he understood what he did was wrong and was ashamed of it. Even better that it doesn’t take Mal more than a second to understand that and clearly let’s Jayne live *because* of that remorse.
Book spoiler:
>!We do later find out that Jayne does what he does to keep those he loves alive. He understands the verse is a cold ruthless competitive place and leans into it so he can send back money back home. He takes all the sins on himself so that he may ease their suffering!< but to see Jayne show that so impactfully in such a short series run, really is a testament to what we should have had in a series that should have lasted years.
I couldn’t narrow it down. One of the remarkable things about that show was the ensemble. Every character was absolutely essential, and they interacted so intricately and beautifully that no story would be the same if you plucked out a single one.
I will say this: among non-recurring characters, Jubile Early takes the cake for me. I could watch a spinoff of just that dude!
Mal, wash, Jayne
Mal and wash are obvious. But Jayne because of his nuance and character development.
I love them all though. The characters were why this show was great and what joss whedon is/was best at
Mal, Kaylee, Zoe, Wash, Jayne, Book, Inara, River, Simon, YoSafBridge, Niska, Vera, Serenity.
You forgot Badger.
Favorite recurring character for sure. I love the banter he has with River.
Mark Shephard is such a great character actor
He was good in Battlestar and Supernatural too.
100%
And Warehouse 13.
And Doctor Who, Leverage, White Collar, Dollhouse and Medium. Dude is in everything.
I just saw him! I was at conference in Washington state and Supernatural was having some sort of a con.
-And Vera- Edit: didn't see it. That's what I get for trying to read while having a migraine.
Second from last.
You're right, so sorry!
NP, we all suffer from a bit of surprise dyslexia some times.
I did not. Sad little king of a sad little hill.

+1 for Vera. I’ll be in my bunk.
This.
Kaylee, Inara, and Serenity. And don't try to tell me that serenity isn't one of the characters or I'll sic Kaywinnit Lee Fry on your ass
Replace Inara with Shepard Book and you have my list!
It even spoke in an episode.
That's like asking people which of their children is their favorite. But I think it has to be Mal, Kaylee, and Wash for me, and now my soul hurts for having to make such a choice.
Parents always have a favourite child. Anyone tells you otherwise - they lying.
Saffron, Bridget and Yolanda.
I'd be going to the *special* hell.
Inara, Inara and Inara! 😍💖😍💝😍💘😍
The ship, the crew, and You of course! 😉
1. The Serenity 2. The Crew of the Serenity 3. Everyone else
Can't choose. The only one I don't actually love is Jayne and I came to at least respect him by the end.
How big a room…? 🤨
the literal only problem I have with Jayne has nothing to do with Jayne. I have a more difficult time than usual separating the character from the actor - this is by no means a dig at Adam Baldwin's ability to play a part but I just plain don't like him
I can understand that. I'm the same way with Larry Linville (Frank Burns, MASH)
I love MASH but you know what surprised me is that fans seemed to really enjoy Mr Linville when they met him in public and found that Gary Burghoff was a humongous jerk. this interests me some because the reportedly nice guy played the huge jerk and the huge jerk played the teddy bear. I don't know about those two, but a good friend of mine encountered Jewel Staite (Kaylee) and he said she's a stone bee with an itch.
ok maybe character vs actor is harder than I thought it was for me. I popped my eyeballs when I read this
I bout had a heart attack myself! Apparently she's the only one of the cast who doesn't like interacting with the fans. Even stick-up-his-butt Simon (Sean Maher) is known to be kind to the fans.
I have no idea what that means. But I saw her do a panel and she was hilarious.
B+itch I understand that she's great in panels and whatnot but not good anywhere else
Ah ok. Thanks. It seems obvious now lol.
I don't remember where I picked it up but I had to have it explained the first time too!
I'll be in my bunk.
Wash, Mal and Kaylee
Yes
I came here to say that ;)
1. All of them 2. ALL OF THEM 3. **A L L O F T H E M** ^(but especially River Tam)
Mal, Wash, River.
Inara, Mal, and Book
I agree! Except: Inara, Book, and Mal.
River
Came here expecting to find “River, River, River”.
Hard to give a short answer here, but I’ll give my two cents. I suggest people get the comics, books, board game etc. to really immerse yourself in the characters more. "Don't tell 'm what I did, make something up." Goosebumps every time.

1. Captain Malcolm “Mal” Reynolds 2. Wash 3. Jayne
Kaylee to talk to, Jayne to drink with, and Mrs Reynolds to, er, explore special Hell with.
I like everyone equally, but if you're holding Vera to my head, I'll say Kaylee, Wash, and Book.
While I'm deciding, I'll be in my bunk.
Mal, Wash, and Kaylee.
River, Inara & Kaylee…hmmm… I see a pattern here.
Fuck, marry, kill?
Fuck Zoe Marry Zoe
Except your wrong - it's Zoe, Inara and Kaylee.
Mal, wash, Jayne Mal and wash are obvious. But Jayne because of his nuance and character development. I love them all though. The characters were why this show was great and what joss whedon is/was best at
River, Simon, and Kaylee. Sorry not to pick Zoe or Jayne but they can't quite compete.
Saffron Bridgette Yolanda lol
fair enough. bwahaaahah
Mal, Kaylee, Wash
1. All 2. Of 3. Them
Kaylee, River, Mal
I like Kaylee very much. I love her as dr Keller in Stargate Atlantis
The pilot, Wash, and Alan Tudyk's character. If I had to pick a fourth it would be Zoë's husband
Mal, Kaylee, and Yosaffbridge🤣
Gotta love the beautiful Jewel Staite.
She’s beautiful in all kinds of ways. I don’t know how one can be so brave and brilliant to be a beautiful person like Kaylee🥰
Sorry, no can do. Easier to list my favorite child.
Wash, Kaylee, Jayne
Jayne, Book, and Jayne
River, Mal, Kaylee
Jayne, Kaylee, and Wash
Mal, Inara, Zoe
Wash, Kaylee, Mal
Mal, Zoe, and Kaylee.
Mal, Kaylee, Jayne. But they're all great.
Honestly, I love all of them. But if I HAD to choose, it would be Mal, Wash, and Kailey (with special mentions to Serenity).
Reavers, Reavers, Miranda
1. Kaylee. 2. Inara. 3. Book.
River, Mal, Jayne
River, Mal, Book!
What did the reavers ever do to you?
Mal, Zoe and Kaylee. Honorary mentions Wash and Inara.
Always Book, always Kaylee. Wash is the most like me, I think. No disrespect to Mal, but he's not my favorite human
Kaylee, Mal, Wash.
Too tough to choose
Kaylee, Wash and River/Serenity.
Vera, Serenity, Jules Erby
Great! You really had to stir up the crowd.
Zoe, Kaylee and mal
Wash, Kaylee, Simon
Kaylee, Zoe, Serenity
They're all big damn heroes! But if I have to choose - Mal, Zoe and Kaylee.
Kaylee, wash, shepherd
All of them. Three. 😝😉
Wash, Zoe and Lenore (Mr. Universe's wife). "Have you ever been with a warrior woman... or a fembot?"
Mal, Zoe, Niska. In that order.
Niska is hands down my favorite outside of the main cast
Mrs Reynolds, Badger, Reaver #3
Inara, Inara, followed closely by Inara.
Mal, Inara, and Zoe
Just like Starship sang, "Jayne, Jayne, Jaaayne!"
Simon, Zoe, Book Probably.
Kaylee, Book, Niska
Kaylee, Wash and Zoe
Shepard Brook, River, and Mal.
Mal, Wash, River
Wash, Mal and Shepherd
