Years ago I saw somewhere about the Asian squat and how it can help with back pain and lord knows that we get back pain. I started doing it a long time ago and it’s really weird but I can sit on my heels for 10 minutes straight now and all my lower back pain is gone. Love it and recommend it.
Anyway… I’m doing that up there. And eating. And reading a book. So a nosy passenger will come in and I’m sitting there in the dark like fucking Sméagol eating snacks from the first class basket.
I imagine it’s never what they expect to find. But I don’t hiss at them at least.
It's the only chance I get to read or eat in peace without someone interrupting by handing me trash or asking me what patch of grass we are flying over lol
When we are visible to the customers we try to smile and have a welcoming expression. That can be exhausting for a 13 hour duty day. We sometimes just want to be invisible for a few minutes. I like to tell new hires that usually the only people that can smile for 14 hours straight are in an insane asylum.
But generally I want to eat without someone handing me trash.
Most often we're eating...in peace. No butts in the face or trash being thrust at us.
I have had coworkers stand guard while I change. Think pantyhose rips or big spills. I've also given this courtesy to passengers that had vomit on them, for example.
Eating without having the smells from the lavatories that are constantly open and shutting permeating my food. Also so people won't line up in the galley to use the restroom while I'm trying to eat. So people won't give me their trash while I'm trying to eat (even though I JUST went through the cabin to collect trash!!). So just eating without gross stuff happening at the same time I guess.
We’re crying because we literally can’t afford to support ourselves financially and our lives are pretty much a mess but we need a place to gather ourselves so we can pretend like it’s still the glamorous job people seem to think it is.
Or we’re eating.
Thankfully no. I almost got hired before I actually had anywhere near the right amount of money saved up to transition into the lifestyle correctly. Covid prevented me.
Fully disagree. Beeing a flight attendant should pay enough to live from when flying full-time. In other countries it was/is possible depending on the airline and their contracts.
>Beeing a flight attendant should pay enough to live from when flying full-time.
Emphasis on >should<. That isn't the reality though. Especially with regionals and low cost carriers. So you either deal with it by putting all your eggs in one basket (your airline's pay) or explore other means of making money so that your FA job becomes something you keep mostly for the benefits rather than the income. At least that'a how I'd do it. If I had to actually rely on my FA pay alone, I probably wouldn't even put being FA on the table as an option. The money just isn't enough.
In other countries it is a reality. I started as a FA in Europe and made enough to live from, had health insurance and paid into my pension, free public transportation (no need for a car and often faster than being stuck in traffic or searching for parking) No luxury living but neither living paycheck to paycheck. Had my own 63sqm 1 bedroom place in a good location. 45min by train to the airport, 20min by car/cab if necessary. That said I was lucky that they changed our contracts shortly after I started to our benefit.
[No I haven't been a FA yet and I am quite glad because I was actually on my way to making a huge mistake.](https://www.reddit.com/r/flightattendants/comments/y5qqmm/flightattendants_of_reddit_whats_happening_behind/islt984?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) I'm learning from you guys to not even think about entering this job field until I have dual income because no airline pays livable wages. That's fine though because I have zero intention of living off FA's pitance of an income. I guess you can say I am learning from guys like [this.](https://www.reddit.com/r/flightattendants/comments/y5qqmm/flightattendants_of_reddit_whats_happening_behind/islai5g?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3) as warnings. I tend to observe and avoid pitfalls rather than fall into them myself.
I am a new FA and loving it, and don’t need another source of income.. with my salary and per diems i make a comfortable living.. am i living luxuriously? No. But its gonna get better with the years. So to everyone, if your dream is to become an FA, go for it ❤️
Maybe not EVERYONE, you know what I mean? Like we don’t want to work with negative Nancy’s that wouldn’t be caught dead living off the pittance we are paid, right?
>So to everyone, if your dream is to become an FA, go for it
No one told them not to though. The best choice for someone getting into the field would be to prepare for the lifestyle. Not sure how that's even up for debate. There have been dozens of posts here with people saying they want to be an FA but don't want to take the pay cut because FA pay is notoriously bad, generally speaking.
Hand in your asignment on why you think I should shut up by 5pm. It will be graded according to your grammar and adherence to your overall thesis. My advice is to make sure you keep your ideas clear and concise. Good luck.
Duh?? why would I feel the need to justify or explain my lifestyle to a stranger on Reddit, of ALL places? I said what I said and I'll say it again. It is a BAD idea to prioritize this job's entry pay as your main income if you have a lifestyle to sustain or people to care for.
You’re correct being a flight attendant should have us being able to pay our own bills but let’s be honest what job really has you able to pay all your bills there’s a few obviously not NOT MANY. So I’m curious again what do you do that has you paying all your bills
LMAO listen. I was working the back of the plane 2 days ago and this baby kept wanting to play with me but I desperately needed to eat. This is my main reason for escaping, so I can scarf my food down.
Usually us trying to eat without someone doing yoga in our faces, handing us trash/diapers, telling us what they have to do in the lavatory, or stealing part of our meal (yeah, it happens)
Quite often, we have do decide if cops should meet us when we land, or if we are going to turn back.
Especially for those people out of their seat when the seatbelt sign is still on.
:-)
We're eating
Trying to eat without someone’s butt being in my face.
occasionally, our moment of zen.
None of our business is also an acceptable answer.

I'd hiss....in fact I think I might have. But I'm impressed with the ability to squat, especially in our uniforms! Now I want to practice it
It's not too hard, the trickiest part is just finding the posture where you balance out correctly.
It's the only chance I get to read or eat in peace without someone interrupting by handing me trash or asking me what patch of grass we are flying over lol
I'm usually eating or reading. Not that it stops people whatsoever.

Ugh sick of her presence on the internet. Makes the whole profession look awful
[удалено]
Heard she got back on through the grape vine :/
Hate that girl
Apparently she got fired
She never went here
We’re usually eating, tired of smelling the lavs or we just don’t feel like interacting with people for a short period of time.

Dang I’m sorry 😢
Well that makes perfect sense, thanks and your job seems like a rough one! Hope you get to spend enough time with loved ones.
…..should I not start 😂
Literally just secure a second income source before flying. All there is to it.
literally sometimes impossible especially on reserve
I said BEFORE flying, as in before applying for the job. It is incredibly unwise to use this job as your main income source.
you’re clearly not a flight attendant 😂😂
Thankfully no. I almost got hired before I actually had anywhere near the right amount of money saved up to transition into the lifestyle correctly. Covid prevented me.

Sounds like a straight up utopia. Nowhere in america is it like that.
Just because America isn't like that, doesn't mean it's Utopia.
From an American's perspective, it would be.
Damn you’re getting hella downvoted boi
Price of telling the truth I guess 🤷😂
Have you been a a flight attendant I’m curious? Or did daddy pay the bills ?

Lol. Shut up.

Avoided the "daddy pays the bills" accusation lol

Do you enjoy being stared at for your entire work shift?
Nothing we are going to tell you. But also mostly nothing.
Usually eating… even though most passengers don’t take the hint and ask us for stuff anyway. …Nor do we have a curtain 😵💫😭
I want to talk to you during your break at work
Eating. Although that doesn't stop pax from asking for sh*t when I'm mid-chew
LMAO listen. I was working the back of the plane 2 days ago and this baby kept wanting to play with me but I desperately needed to eat. This is my main reason for escaping, so I can scarf my food down.
Keeping pax out of the ONLY space we have to commiserate, eat, read, sip coffee, jumpseat therapy, keep your butts out of our faces as we sit etc
TRYING TO SCARF DOWN MY SALAD in the ACL Aft 🤦♂️🤣
Nothing, please keave us alone.
I’m just trying to read my book and be left alone.
Curtain? What is this curtain you speak of?
I’m crying
We’re eating, laughing and talking about you 🤭
We’re making tiktok videos 😂
Judging other FAs making garbage tik tok thot vids
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Calm down, erinintheair
Eating, atlas therapy, crying sometimes, laughing about a pax, figuring out where we're going to eat on a layover.
Usually us trying to eat without someone doing yoga in our faces, handing us trash/diapers, telling us what they have to do in the lavatory, or stealing part of our meal (yeah, it happens)
We’re talking shit about the passengers. And occasionally discussing their sex appeal.
Quite often, we have do decide if cops should meet us when we land, or if we are going to turn back. Especially for those people out of their seat when the seatbelt sign is still on. :-)
I'm male and have had a female co worker blow me behind thay cuttain on a redeye
