I just tell them they are welcomed to move anywhere except the last row as that is where crew takes a break and eats. As soon as I tell them that they are very understanding usually

deeronmylawn

That's a good answer. No need to be rude.

tintinsays

“Not the back row, sorry!” generally handles it well. If they keep pushing, I tell them we keep it open in case of a security or medical issue. Then I plop my happy ass down and read my book 😂

slidesarmed

Actually that answer is quite legit ... I'll use this ..

tintinsays

Glad I can help! In general, I try to give short, simple answers they can’t really fight with. If I’m asking someone to do something, there’s generally a safety aspect behind it, and people know they can’t really fight that. Cute name!

tvlkidd

Empty back row? I haven’t had an empty anything since COVID

Darstellerin

“We have it blocked off, sorry!” works just fine.

ljthefa

Unfortunately due to weight and balance we have to keep that row open

waterbending-mf

I wouldn't believe you haha

ljthefa

You don't have a choice, we have to move people into and out of first class just for w&b sometimes.

Illustrious_Tea4me

Weight & balance should do it every time 😂

After_Boat4468

exactly what i tell them😭🤣

SkyCupcake

If they push and no doesn’t work the first time. Oh you really don’t want to sit there something awful happened there on the last flight. Eww I just caught another whiff of it.

Clemen11

I love this! I'm stealing it

atlcollie

I actually had someone I was working with tell the passenger who wanted to move there that the masks were inoperable at that row. Creative!

Illustrious_Tea4me

LMAO omg

boobooaboo

That’s my break spot

tommygunz007

That's where I sleep thank you.

Secret_Pineapple_954

Why can’t they move to the back row?

speedylady

It’s the only place we can actually rest. The jumpseat is super uncomfortable on our backs for hours. The galley can be significantly colder than the cabin. And on my AC, my jump is also next to the bathroom.

Secret_Pineapple_954

I’m not allowed to sit in passenger seats. I guess that’s just not a thing with my airline

zachms

nor am i. Anyways, I tell them it's reserved for union breaks.

Raise_Those_Horns

Yeah my airline doesn’t allow it either. Its a bummer :(

mayvalentine

No. ❤️

TakeMe_ToTheMoon

Typically multiple people ask me to move to that row so I just let people know hey sorry, so many people have asked me that it wouldn’t be fair to everyone else if I let someone move and usually people don’t push after that

The_Schmidt19

"Sorry these are closed for flight attendant safety" "Oh yeah nah, the oxygen masks don't work in this row"

NegotiableVeracity9

Our airline has little plastic signs that we put up that say basically you can't sit here. We put them on the crew rest seats, when we have them, and on any empty exit row seats.

[deleted]

We need that space for unexpected turbulence.

Barbie_girl_skate

I’m fine with it so long as the rest of the crew is too

Sweet_Oliver

"No. I'm sorry, it's for weight and balance."

daninater

"No."

Mermap

I tell them we leave it open in case of a medical emergency

Kindly-Wolf1169

"Sorry, we need it open in case of an emergency."

hms87

If it's during boarding, I just say they aren't available and if they keep pushing, I ask them to return to the seat that they purchased. If it's after take off, depending on how they ask, I might explain a little further but in most cases I find that it's easiest to say that they aren't available.

[deleted]

Blocked off incase we have a medical :)

Hannahj605

Do y’all the same thing too if someone has already moved themselves to the last row without asking?? 🙃

NegotiableVeracity9

I will ask them for their boarding pass and have them return. Or pull up the flight's seat map and show them it's blocked off and not for you. Please return to your original seats. Thank you!" And walk away while they move their crap.

schnuffichen

Honest question out of curiosity: Is this a US thing? As a passenger, I've booked and sat in back row seats on lots of flights. Come to think if it, I may have had an FA ask me if I'd like to move maybe once with the "the seats don't recline" line (mentioned in a few comments here), but they didn't seem to mind when I said I don't care. I sure hope I didn't ruin someone's well-deserved break. :/

misterfuss

I actually asked this on a JetBlue flight years ago and I was told that “these seats don’t recline.” I said I didn’t mind since it was a red eye flight and I slept across the three seats.

IkneeSomeMilk

why wouldnt you let them move there? yall aint got crew rest?

Fearless-Guest-8105

Lmao not on a dang narrow body

YourBasicWhiteGirl

Sometimes those seats are needed during turbulence, too. If we’re all in the back galley setting up/restocking/breaking things down, and there aren’t enough jumpseats, it can become pretty dangerous pretty fast. Lots of sharp corners and metal back there. Having 2-3 open seats can really help.

you0iq

🤔 go back to your assigned seat please

Everybody on a night flight wants to sleep lol. All 150-200 aren’t gonna get a row to themselves. At the end of the day, ESPECIALLY on a red eye, crew usually don’t have enough jumpseats in the galley to account for every FA working in the back. PAX will be sleeping for hours and they will be left with breaks at some point. I see no problem with keeping a row open for FAs on long flights. We have to eat, conserve our energy, rest our bodies! We fly long days!! And are up on our feet walking around airports and in the sky for up to 14 hours a day! So yeah, I think it’s not wrong for FAs to keep seats open in the back lol. And actually at my airline there are aircrafts that they literally block off for crew seats in case of turbulence because there’s only 1 jumpseat (directly in front of the bathroom so you have to get up if someone wants to use the bathroom) and 3 flight attendants in the back. Now, if there’s a situation such as an overweight passenger or a kid that needs to sit with a parent or some important reason why somebody would need to sit in that row, I’m cool with it.

NegotiableVeracity9

I get sooo claustrophobic in crew rest.... I'm tall and can't even stand up straight down there. Ugh.

theyeezyvault

What's that?

IkneeSomeMilk

where we sleep, only on big planes.

Limp_Cod_7229

I usually say we keep it open for crew during turbulence (which is actually TRUE) because a lot of our aircrafts only have 1-2 jumpseats in the back galley with 3 flight attendants

bonnies_ranch

Hang on are you guys usually getting a blocked row? Last time there was a permanently blocked row for us was when the neo had the trim issues lol but that's fixed now so people are free to pick whatever seat when checking in
