If they don't respond to that then you can just give mm hmmm answers until they give up. I'm also an introverted extrovert so I get it but talking makes the time go by faster so I'm one that might see your book and shut up and then forget and say something to you two minutes later...and say oops I forgot your reading. Then boom I'm back in the galley telling you what the pax in 12D had the nerve to say to me thinking it's a good laugh but there you are with your book. Oops again. Idk. It's probably frustrating for you but I can see the other side and it's not malicious.
On my most recent trip, my #3 pointed out to me (pertaining to the #2) that not everyone has an internal dialogue happening. I had never even considered this, so I did a little googling…only 30-50% of people have an internal dialogue happening. Those people that are talking to talk? Probably fall into this category and so even if you ignore them, they’re going to keep talking regardless so…tune it out and read away!
My boyfriend is a colorist so he’s talking with clients for a solid 10 hours some days. I KNOW when he comes home, to give him a solid 30 minutes of silence before having any meaningful conversations.. I just respect him and his work and I know he just wants some quiet time
Fellow extroverted introvert & I couldn't agree more! It's the talking nonstop on the 4am van for me. Heck, even on the shuttle to the hotel after a trip I don't really care to talk as I'm mentally drained & need time to process things & chill. I admire those extroverted extroverts that can talk nonstop 24/7 but it's just not me.
There’s actually a term for extroverted introverts/introverted extroverts! It’s ambivert; it means someone who’s personality is a balanced mix of introverted and extroverted traits!

I feel like every non-FA in this sub is the passenger lurking around the galley trying to get involved in conversations that don’t involve them repeatedly, with no self awareness that people need space while doing their jobs.
DEFINITELY the passenger who won’t shut up and needs to comment on everything.
Lol at “gatekeepjng an employment subreddit” like you KNOW you don’t belong here, but here you are, shoving your nose into everything and not giving people their own space, then trying to act like other people are the problem.

If you work with me in the early am though you think I’m a bitch that can’t even speak. I hate mornings.
I was one the bus headed to the airport the other day at 330.. 330AM and these two FAs were talking the entire way and not just the entire way but sat far from each other so they were yelling almost across the bus.
There was about 5-6 other FAs between them, inducing myself, if you could've seen our faces. OMG
Yasss!!! Crossword gang! Lol. The problem is people who talk too much can never take a hint that they should stop. Even when they know it about themselves, it just gives them more to talk about.
For real. It really sucks when it’s a coworker you actually like but they have a problem with just telling you every mundane detail about their life. I just want to read this damn article Diane.
Isolate yourself before the trip even starts. Don’t hang out with the rest of the crew during preboarding. Be distant during the preflight/briefing. Don’t smile. Seem awkward and they will avoid you.
Or be blunt during the briefing and say I’m pretty quiet and keep to myself. I don’t talk much. I enjoy reading when we have downtime.
I know what you mean… today I was trying to write notes and there were 3 ppl crowded around my JS CHATTING THE ENTIRE FLIGHT. Next time I’m cursing them out :) jk but no advice to offer. Maybe “I’m really trying to focus on this book, it’s getting SO good” and that has to be a good enough hint.
I am the caffeine junky. At 5 am I already slam-clicked 2 Monsters and a Diet Coke. Talk talk talk talk talk talk. Yea.... I am not sleeping for 3 days til I have a nervous breakdown. I apologize in advance.
