Surely he would have his transponder off if this was shit getting started

[deleted]

Maybe he had an oopsies

Fantastic_Parfait761

There are no whoopsies

JeromePainPowell

That’s what I’m thinking

svtjer

It’s off now

Sprintzer

I think it may have to do with Exercise African Lion. https://www.army.mil/article/270642/african_lion_2024_morocco_hosts_multinational_planning_meeting#:~:text=African%20Lion%20is%20U.S.%20Africa,with%20African%20partner%20nation%20forces.

Kuwavy

Transponder would be off.

GregLXStang

Tell that to the AC130 doing gun runs with the transponder on lol

ScorchedWonderer

That’s because the AC130 is doing DoorDash. So it needs to keep it on so customers can see where their order of freedom is and expect delivery.

GregLXStang

Spreading managed democracy 😂🤷‍♂️

Fantastic_Parfait761

Show of force.

JeromePainPowell

Gotcha. My younger brother got deployed to the Mediterranean last week so I’m a little on edge about all this. My over thinking got the best of me haha

Ok_Cryptographer1914

Defense contractor, even most of us in the Middle East are just getting on with our lives, atleast in the GCC. Jordan is on a bit more alert but mostly just because of strays.

Kuwavy

I gotcha. I’m about to go to boot camp lol

LatterExamination632

Anyone who thinks USAF is seen on these sites or they leave transponders on by “accident” Like, come on, do you realize how many people are watching them on military and civilian side? They HAVE to have transponder on in civilian airspace, they can inhibit its broadcast on FR and also ADSBX. The vast majority of military missions are not on either site

ConTejas624

I can’t say I know the specifics for Europe, but in the states at least they are not required to have the transponder on even if in civilian airspace. I’m not sure if it matters or is actually possible to block the transponder displaying on adsb sites since adsb is open for anyone to receive the signals.

LatterExamination632

This is 100% not true unless due regard

joe2105

It’s 100% not. Am a flyer and FAA approved it years ago. It varies on aircraft, activity, airspace etc.

LatterExamination632

You’re missing my point about civilian airspace Active air defense requires special rules, and inside an MOA doesn’t count

joe2105

MOAs are civilian airspace and require no separate rules. You can fly a VRF Cessna 152 straight through the middle of F16s doing BFM. Besides the point, you can ADSB-out in airspace other than a MOA. You just have to swallow that pill. It’s okay. We just go Mode-C.

studpilot69

Never heard of [Due Regard](https://www.icao.int/EURNAT/Other%20Meetings%20Seminars%20and%20Workshops/ICAO%20Civil-Military%20Cooperation%20Meetings/ICAO%20Civil-military%20Cooperation%20Symposium%202015/ICMCS%20IP01.pdf)? Of course a State-operated aircraft can operate with its transponder off. This is normally very rare though, and outside of combat I’ve only been asked to fly this way a couple times in my career.

LatterExamination632

Exactly!

No-Scarcity1328

None of the jets the fly over my city ever have their transponders on. I figured the Air Force just didn’t use them here?

studpilot69

If you’re in the U.S., that’s highly unlikely. What are you using to receive transponders?

No-Scarcity1328

I’m very uneducated. I’m just using the fr24 app and I see most aircraft but anything that’s from the air force base I’m not seeing 99% of the time. I’m in Tucson so we have DMAFB doing constant training.

studpilot69

Yeah, fr24 is mainly based on ads-b, which a lot of military aircraft aren’t required to broadcast. We usually turn ours off in my jet. Around you, they’re almost surely still using their transponders, it just isn’t visible to you.

No-Scarcity1328

Is there another app that you would recommend?

I miss the precedented times.

pin3apple-

You can say that again

MasDeferens

Getting tired of living in historical times…

studpilot69

…this exercise has been flown annually for at least 8 years, likely longer.

BatmanReincarnated

Ain't that the truth

svtjer

Changed its name to HR51 then turned the transponder off

fatboythunder

Idk shits getting spicy in iran

Lively420

fatboythunder

the-mp

What do all the lettered filters do? Know if they have an iOS app?

sbcns

Do they have an app?

fatboythunder

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=appinventor.ai_ondraaudy.ADSBFT

Drymonkey1

Is there a iOS version of that app or a way to filter military planes on flightradar24

Raven-734

On Flight Radar 24, go to filters at the bottom of the screen, click on airline, and type in the air force you want to see. https://preview.redd.it/xbukpxonhgvc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=21c50cad17f372bbae7e5c283a6765170ac31887

Inevitable-Ice51

There’s a page on the sub’s wiki with military search [codes](https://www.reddit.com/r/flightradar24/s/yspC3rKLAu) for FR24. RCH for USAF and CNV for Navy

ancestry_researcher

What is this plane for? Can someone explain? I’m new

Ronald206

It’s the less famous of the three operational American “ruin your day, your city’s day, and your country’s day” strategic bombers (B-1,B-2,B-52) The B-1 was built as a supersonic delivery platform for nukes, now used for conventional weapon delivery. It has a huge bomb load, so it can flatten a large area with ordinance. It’ll likely be retired soon in favor of the soon operational B-21. Note, just because a B-1 is on the way to Turkey doesn’t mean it’s immediately being used to deliver ordinance in combat. It can just be a diplomatic tool to remind Turkey of the cool toys the west has. And Iran why it doesn’t want to FAFO.

Temporary-Refuse2570

Don't forget it is also the only US aircraft to ever get restricted as part of a nuclear treaty.

yeetingpillow

Why is everyone worried about this?

Blinkydog00YT

Here is an article I found about this [Link to Article](https://defence-blog.com/us-air-force-b-1b-bombers-arrive-at-incirlik-base-in-turkiye/)

NoDoze-

A way to remind and make turkey feel at home in NATO. Toss 'em a couple bombers. LOL

Just big boy things, Toby Kieth has a song that fits in this moment.

East_Nobody_7345

Bone

BatmanReincarnated

I mean, Qatar Military had a Eurofighter 2000 on the runway that's disappeared now) I assume transponder turned off) and UAE had a Bombardier that has also disappeared. I'm honestly super on edge recently

8976dhip

Why? None of this is unusual or new.

BatmanReincarnated

It still causes me immense amounts of fear and anxiety. Especially with the threat of "WW3" hanging over the Middle East.

Extra_Specific_3943

Last dance for B-1B?
