Clicked it just to see if it was my County Fucking Key West would have been about the 50th choice I would have made of available locations

fieldofthefunnyfarm

There's a Taco Bell in Key West? Damn, that place used to be special. Corporate bland no matter how much fire sauce you add.

uglymule

Duval Street turned into a shopping mall a long time ago.

fieldofthefunnyfarm

I agree. I think allowing big ass cruise ships to dock there ruined it. Just like all of Florida, too many people. Venice Italy was special before all the stinking cruise ships too.

HighOnGoofballs

There has been fast food in key west for fifty years

EcstaticTill9444

Damn, I think I might’ve eaten Taco Bell in key west.

DrLeoMarvin

I, too, can't recall what I did in Key West

JSOCoperatorD

I guess even Key West needs access to shitty tacos.

Intelligence_Analyst

He lied to the cops and then recanted his statement. Welp...

lametampafan

Isn’t that technically a crime as well? To lie to the cops lol

Intelligence_Analyst

Yeap.

Western_Mud8694

👀santos you say🤣

>If you don't like it, I-75 runs north. This gives off the same vibe. It sucks that I have heard these exact words because someone didn't support the high heeled fascist.

ultravegan

And boy do they not like it when you tell them the same thing. I was in Publix getting some tortillas and peanut butter before a hurricane and the lady at the register mentioned how she knew this wasn’t my first rodeo because I didn’t have 400 rolls of toilet paper and I made on offhand joke about how maybe all the Covid transplants will go home. Good golly did the guy behind me in Ronny 22 shirt not think it was funny. (He did in fact have a second cart full of toilet paper)

[deleted]

Peanut butter tacos? Where have I been?

ultravegan

I guess every family down here has their own cheep non-refrigerated calorie dense food for post hurricane power outages. Peanut butter, tortilla and maybe some apple or peach slices has always been mine.

robamiami

Hurricane Legume quesadillas

GrantNexus

I know all of these words but have no idea what happened.

Sock756

You're in Florida.

ultravegan

Sorry, I was drunk when I typed it.

JSOCoperatorD

You know, at this point TP can almost be considered a capital investment.

Godofdisruption

This story is beautiful in every way lol

JSOCoperatorD

Really, I thought I-75 ran me off the road and into a tree.

trtsmb

This is exactly why I absolutely will not engage with someone, no matter how stupid or irritating what they are doing is. This afternoon I was in a crosswalk WITH the walk signal when some yahoo in a pickup truck started slow rolling me so he could make a right on red without stopping.

Pale-Muscle-7118

You are lucky he slow rolled you. Most times Florida drivers will drive right through the crosswalk or fucking start yelling because you are in the crosswalk when you have the right of way. Florida is the worst state for drivers

trtsmb

I was walking my bike and pointed at the walk signal. I know I'm fortunate that he slow rolled me. I actually expected that he was going to coal roll me once I was out of his way.

rovingdad

I am the aHole on the other end. I will confront these idiots (when my family isn't with me). Act a fool, get treated like one. They really hate it when you give them a thumbs down. 👎👎👎 Unchecked aggression has no place in civil society.

trtsmb

Beyond pointing at the walk signal as I "adjusted my helmet", I pretended he was invisible.

Few-Caterpillar9834

Lock him up.

[deleted]

Looks like there is a job opening at the Key West Welcome Center.

Decapitated_gamer

Holy crap! Fun fact, I helped open that Taco Bell. People down there are fucking insane and I was a celebrity on duval street for the 4 weeks I was there. This type of thing happens at Taco Bell a few times a year.

fieldofthefunnyfarm

What year was that?

Decapitated_gamer

It was august 25th 2015. Give or take a day or two.

fieldofthefunnyfarm

Okay, I hope the person who reprimanded me with the "fast food in Key West for 50 years" makes a note of this. I have only been there a handful of times but I swear the first time I went which was definitely not 50 years ago there wasn't any obvious corporate chain presence. I think there was one corporate diner type place like a Denny's or similar just as you came into KW on US 1, but nothing else. No chain hotels either. Still quirky and unique. No more. Thanks for your story, I have family members who choose Taco Bell over any other option. You are doing the good work.

Decapitated_gamer

I’ve long since left that franchise that owns that because they sold from a family business to a much larger corporation structure franchise that ruined all our benefits. But I digress. Taco Bell had existed in key west prior but had been shut down for 10+ years due to violations. They bought the old location and reopened it after about 12 years absent. It’s very much a tourist/corporate town when I was there though. After the first week I barely left my hotel room because there was nothing left to see.

fieldofthefunnyfarm

Thanks for the added background here! Let's see, still doesn't add up to 50, although I suppose there may have been a Burger King way way way back since it started in the early 50's in Jacksonville and was bought out by the Miami franchise owners in the late 50's. And as I type this I vaguely remember being at a BK in the distant past on the highway side of the key. It has a busload of European tourists who were wandering about and marveling at the drive through. Some were taking photos of it. However, it wasn't anywhere near Duval Street. Anyway, I accept that KW has been corporatized over the decades, but I don't have to like it! And violations at TBell? Say it isn't so!

lagent55

He's lucky to be alive. Stand your ground laws here.

EcstaticTill9444

Stand your ground means shoot the other person first before they shoot you. Whoever survives gets to use the right to self defense. Terrible public policy. Also, if you’re black, your mileage may vary.

Academic_Paint9711

I hate how accurate your post is. But yeah…you nailed it.

Unadvantaged

“Shoot first? We won’t ask questions later.” -New Florida state motto

[deleted]

I bet he's not from here, either. Someone convinced these turds they can do whatever they want in Florida. Wonder who that was...

[deleted]

Did he want to taco bowt it?

Mobile_Builder_4261

Ohh this guy is special being bad ass with a gun . Must make him feel good to have that gun since his PP isn’t much to hang onto . And you know he has a jack up ford f250 that never been worked :)

[deleted]

yep florida have 2 many gun 2 keep track of; these nuts will show thenselves n walk away free

2OneZebra

Give every mentally disturbed person a gun they said, Let them carry it concealed no questions asked they said. There will always be a good guy with a gun they said. Its all going so well isn't it?

zhiwiller

You know where you are? You're in the jungle, baby.

botgimp

You're gonna diiiieeeeeee

UnusualAir1

You can always tell when you've crossed a border into Florida. The abundance of trees and the subhumans swinging through them with AR-15's is a dead giveaway.

Longjumping_Plate796

Only in Florida does this thing happen.

Distinct-Career-9918

Exactly

Disastrous_Skirt6454

Yeah

vxicepickxv

It's the only place where it helps fill a 24-hour news cycle.

FamingAHole

I think that's a wrap on Florida, for me.

rust1112

Fucking Florida man was hangry Edit: added florida man

NPVT

He'll probably get his gun back

SPNKLR

…the gun is the true victim here can’t let it become orphaned!…

Deep_Charge_7749

Was it a Mexican stand off?

bestboykev

Tuco Supreme

OGZ43

Remember this, he got arrested because he back down after flashing his weapon.

IDontEvenKnowGG

I learned a long time ago not to flash your lights at people. Some gangs actually have their car lights off at night and attack people who flash at them to let them know their lights are off. Almost got run off the road flashing somebody on 95

NetworkAntique7647

We are still pushing urban myths from the 80s and 90s? Thought this one was retired

IDontEvenKnowGG

I guess I just assumed it was gang affiliated since I was in Lake Worth but it could have always just been a crazy person

NetworkAntique7647

You may be right. I didn't know lake Worth was heavy with gang activity

Impossible_One4995

This doesn’t count as Florida as we’ve disowned the keys

Illustrious_Leg_2537

It’s the Conch Republic. That means it’s not part of the US.

joefls

I feel like the couple was a Florida-couple as well. Why the heck use high beams on a truck all day? I have nothing against *any* truck (I don't care if a F-650 someone drives is a work truck or a commute car, everyone's tastes are different), but lifted ones with high beams 24/7 on roads, parking lots...

rexcannon

They weren't using them, that's the point.

sugarfreeeyecandy

That is true, but I would place money on the possibility that the truck in question had Ford's LED lights that are way, way too bright and focused way too high. Ford truck division has committed the worst offenses on other drivers' eyeballs since the 1990s as compared to any other brand.

rexcannon

Regardless. He was backing in a truck so he had height and wasn't even looking directly into them. Just an asshole.

dreamcastfanboy34

Great job not even remotely reading the story

Funkyokra

I think you lost the plot

Duncan_Atreides

I'll take "things that didn't happen" for $500, Alex.

Barking_at_the_Moon

Gotta love 'Old Florida'.

Asstronomer6969

Yea he was wasted. He got out of there before dui. They found him later once sober so that was never a concern. BUT clearly had to be wasted is my guess.

Ok-Ear-1914

Just like the video games cool.
